  • Triple Boot with Windows 7, Windows 7 and Ubuntu

    Hello, currently I have dual boot with 2 windows 7. (dont ask why, long story, I need them for each with different settings involving Audio Recording) I am very keen to install the new Ubuntu and get into a new OS, out of interest but I don't want to mess with my current 2 windows installations? If I install Ubuntu, will this simply add to my list of OS boot options when you set it, like I did when I install my 2nd Windows 7 Any comments or help would be great? Thanks Bill

    I often need to remotely manage PC and Macs for desktop support. I'm after a remote desktop management support tool that I could email (or send a url) that the customer could click on (or run) and I could then remotely manage their PC/Mac A tool that could work on both operating systems would be great but not mandatory (a separate tool for both/either will suffice) A tool that has an iPhone App would be fantastic too but this would just be very much a 'wish list' Looking forward to your suggestion!

    Is there hardware (links would be great) that can connect to the wireless internet already in my house and provide hard links to other hardware? Basically the problem is that my basement is not wired up to let me hook up my cable modem. I have some electronics that do not have wireless and need a LAN wire. Is there something I could plug in downstairs to act as a relay hub?

  • I have a new seagate 3tb hard drive and when i installed it it says 349gb free

    my new seagate sata drive keeps showing as a 249gb drive but in the setup part when i press del at the boot up it states there a 3000gb drive and i have searched for a solution but havent found one yet. I havent tried in a different pc yet and I have an asus gaming board with 2 video cards sli'ed and i have windows 7 ultimate 64 bit with 8gb ram and a hp 23" widescreen monitor and the sniper gaming case and a salitek lighted up gaming keyboard and a razor death adder gaming mouse and a corsair 850 watt power supply. Any help would be great and appriciated

    I've got google apps setup, with the mx records working. Any emails to [email protected] now go to my google apps, great. Now i want to use google apps for sending automated emails (ie lost password, registration) How do i set it up so that php's mail() using googleapps? is this correct? also, is there anyway for test (sending myself multiple emails) without google thinking im spamming?

However I would like to substitute a specific font - say Arial - with another of my choice every time it is found instead of setting a global font (which I don't like as I just want to substitute Arial) or using a stylish rule for every page.   • When does /tmp get cleared?

    I'm taking to putting various files in /tmp, and I wondered what the rules on deleting them are? I'm imagining it's different for different distributions, and I'm particularly interested in Ubuntu and Fedora desktop versions. But a nice general way of finding out would be a great thing. Even better would be a nice general way of controlling it! (Something like 'every day at 3 in the morning, delete any /tmp files older than 60 days, but don't clear the directory on reboot')

  • Can I Be Alerted On-Screen Each Time Someone Remote Desktop's Onto My Windows 2003 Server

    I work all day on a Windows Server 2003 machine and have noticed people "borrowing" my machine by using Remote Desktop to log in. This is pretty much "normal behaviour" at the company I work at, but I'd like to know when this is happening. Is there any way I can be alerted each time someone remote desktop's onto my server? A simple "Bob has logged in" would be great - and I imagine there is a facility somewhere to enable this.

  • Can ZenOSS integrate Ganglia smoothly?

    I like Ganglia for its Gmetric function, and I like its multi-layer capability. But Ganglia does not have healthiness check, alerting and etc. for the server monitor functionality. So it would be great to bring this two species together. Sure, we can install Ganglia, and then install ZenOSS. But is there a plugin or something that can smoothly integrate them together? At least integration at the presentation level. Thanks

  • Automated incremental backups from Plesk on Centos to Amazon S3

    Hi, I've done a far bit of research on this via Google and there seems to be quite a few ways of possibly doing this. I'm looking to incrementally backup new and updated files in two directories on my Plesk run Centos 5.2 server: /backups and /var/www/vhosts (preferable only httdocs within each vhost) Has anyone got some great feedback from using the various solutions - seems to be various Java, Perl and Ruby based solutions out there.     using Fedora 14: http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=jUvcfugw i mount an anonym Samba share [checks it in every 5 sec] it's working, ok, great! But: when i shut down my Fedora box, i can see the lines containing this scripts lines! Many times, about ~50x on the screen. How could i disable these lines when shutting down? I [and other people] don't want to see those lines for about ~ 5 sec Thank you!

  • Good maintained privacy Add-On/settings set that takes usability into account?

    For some weeks I've been trying to find a good set of Firefox Addons that give me a good portion of privacy/security without losing to much of usability. But I can't seem to find a nice combination of add-ons/settings that I'm happy with. Here's what I tried, together with the pros and cons that I discovered: HTTPS Everywhere: Has only pro's: just install and be happy (no interaction needed), loads known pages SLL-encrypted, is updated fairly often NoScript - Fine, but needs a lot of fine-tuning, often maintained, mainly blocks all non-HTML/CSS Content, but the author sometimes seems to do "untrustworthy" decission RequestPolicy - seems dead (last activity 6 months ago, has some annoying bugs, official support mail address is dead), but the purpose of this is really great: gives you full control over cross-site requests: blocks by default, let's you add sites to a whitelist, once this is done it works interaction-less in the background AdBlock Edge: blocks specific cross-site requests from a pre-defined whitelist (can never be fully sure, need to trust others) Disconnect: like AdBlock Edge, just looking different, has no interaction possibilities (can never be fully sure, need to trust others, can not interact even if I wanted to) Firefox own Cookie Managment (block by default, whitelist specific sites), after building own whitelist it does it's work in the background and I have full control All These addons together basically block everything unsecure. But there are a lot of redundancies: NoScript has a mixed-content blocker, but FF has it's own for a while now. Also the Cookie blocker from NoScript is reduntant to my FF-Cookie setting. NoScript also has an XSS-blocker, which is redundant to RequestPolicy. Disconnect and AdBlock are extremly redundant, but not fully. And there are some bugs (especially RequestPolicy). And RequestPolicy seems to be dead. All in all, this list is great but has these heavy drawbacks. My favourite set would be "NoScript Light" (only script blocking, without all the additonal redundant-to-other-addons hick-hack it does) + HTTPS Everywhere + RequestPolicy-clone (maintained, less buggy), because RequestPolicy makes all other "site-blockers" obsolete (because it blocks everything by default and let's me create a whitelist). But since RequestPolicy is buggy and seems to be dead I have to fallback to AdBlock Edge and Disconnect, which don't block all and and need more maintaining (whitelist updates, trust-check). Are there addons that fulfill my wishes?

  • PHP at the root directory using Ngnix on Linode and Ubuntu 12.04

    I originally set up my Linode to use it with the Sinatra applications using Phusion Passenger that I was developing and I have it working great for that. However, as time goes on, I find myself needing just a wee bit of PHP to do a server-side thing here or there. My basic set up was based off of this Linode recipe (I copied and pasted the parts that I needed—I did not install Redis and Node). If I go to http://scholarsnyc.com/index.php everything works great. If I just go the base URL however, I get a 403 Forbidden error (I have a vanilla HTML page there for now). I've played with file permissions and the same file will work if I call it directly. I've done my homework and nothing I try seems to work. I'm sure there is an obvious error.   • How do I find and replace 'whole words only', in Microsoft Word?

    I want to be able to find and replace eat with Eat in Microsoft Word 2007. However, I don’t want to replace every occurrence of eat such as those that can be found inside other words such as great and meat. I have tried doing this using the regular Find and Replace tool, but I get words with capital letters in the middle. Is there a way I can just replace eat with Eat if it only exists on its own?

  • Set default input/output sound

    I have a mac that is hooked into a sound board, I have external sound card that interfaces between the computer and the soundboard, this works great. However, whenever the computer restarts it sets the input & output to the 'internal microphone' and the 'built in output'. I'd like to default to the other soundcard. How can I do this?   • Routing protocols, distance vector vs link state

    I'm trying to figure out the differences(pros/cons) between two routing protocols approach and I would be great-full for any help, advice and explanation. As far I can say that it seems like distance vector is more static and more local based routing, since it doesn't know the network state whereas link state is more aware of current states therefore it seems more natural to use it over distance-vector, but I have a feeling like I'm missing something. And I would be glad to here about more aspects and different issues I have to consider while choosing one of them.
