  • Is there a client for Google Talk, for Mac, that allows phone calls?

    I'm having no luck finding a client for Google Talk that is both for Mac (OSX) and that allows phone calls (not just chatting with other Google Talk users). If I leave the browser page open to gmail, it will ring when I receive a call to my Google Voice number, and I can call out from my Google Voice number, but I don't want to use the browser. Is there any sort of client, for Mac, that will allow calls through Google Talk?

  • How do I revoke access to java applet on OSX when there's an error in the control panel.

    I can't access the screenr.com java applet on my mac. Poking around the java preferences, I saw an odd entry with a red circle (I assume that means to deny access?) for it in the security section. When I highlight that entry and hit the remove button, I get an error, as seen in this screenshot: https://img.skitch.com/20110114-ktq714darqdckub92s3cqucr9s.jpg Is there somewhere I can go on the filesystem to clear out all of these?   • UI Controls Copyright

    I'm developing a cross-platform computer software. It will run on Windows and Mac OS X. For user experience reasons, I want it to have the same graphic on both platforms. I really like the Mac OS UI controls and I'd love to see them on the Windows version too. My question is: is it legal to "copy" UI components? I'm not going to copy icons or reproduce an existing Apple software. I would only "copy" some standard UI components such as Buttons, Progressbars, TreeView, ListView etc. You can see them here: http://i.stack.imgur.com/9YzYQ.png http://i.stack.imgur.com/MWR6B.jpg IMHO, they should not be copyrighted for two reasons: They are implicitly used by any Mac OS software There are a lot of Apps (for Windows and even Web-Apps) that are "inspired by" the Mac graphic.   • Mac OS X : Why does chown report "Operation not permitted"?

    I am trying to do the following on my Mac (10.6.7) : sudo chown myusername:wheel ./entries but Unix/Mac is returning "Operation not permitted". When I ls -lash, the culprit file, it looks as follows: 8 -rwxrwxrwx 1 myusername staff 394B Apr 26 23:26 entries I've tried sudo, I've tried sudo su, nothing works? Any ideas what's up? The files I'm trying to chmod I've copied from my old Ubuntu box, most of the files have successfully chmodded recursively, just this one is stuck and I don't understand why.

  • Reading a ZFS USB drive with Mac OS X Mountain Lion

    The problem: I'm using a MacBook, mainly with Solaris 11, but something with Mac OS X (ML). The only missing thing is that Mac OS X can't read my external ZFS based USB drive, where I store all my data. So, I decided to look for a solution. Possible solution: I decided to use VirtualBox with a Solaris 11 VM as a passthrough to my data. Here are the required steps: Installing a Solaris 11 VM Install VirtualBox on your Mac OS X, add the extension pack (needed for USB) Plug your ZFS based USB drive on your Mac, ignore it when asked to initialize it. Create a VM for Solaris (bridged network), and before installing it, create a USB filter (in the settings of your Vbox VM, go to Ports, then USB, then add a new USB filter from the attached device "grey usb-connector logo with green plus sign")  Install a Solaris 11 VM, boot it, and install the Guest addition check with "ifconfg -a" the IP address of your Solaris VM Creating a path to your ZFS USB drive In MacOS X, use the "Disk Utility" to unmount the USB attached drive, and unplug the USB device. Switch back to VirtualBox, select the top of the window where your Solaris 11 is running plug your ZFS USB drive, select "ignore" if Mac OS invite you to initialize the disk In the VirtualBox VM menu, go to "Devices" then "USB Devices" and select from the dropping menu your "USB device" Connection your Solaris VM to the USB drive Inside Solaris, you might now check that your device is accessible by using the "format" cli command If not, repeat previous steps Now, with root privilege, force a zpool import -f myusbdevicepoolname because this pool was created on another system check that you see your new pool with "zpool status" share your pool with NFS: share -F NFS /myusbdevicepoolname Accessing the USB ZFS drive from Mac OS X This is the easiest step: access an NFS share from mac OS Create a "ZFSdrive" folder on your MacOS desktop from a terminal under mac OS: mount -t nfs IPadressofMySoalrisVM:/myusbdevicepoolname  /Users/yourusername/Desktop/ZFSdrive et voila ! you might access your data, on a ZFS USB drive, directly from your Mountain Lion Desktop. You might play with the share rights in order to alter any read/write rights as needed. You might activate compression, encryption inside the Solaris 11 VM ...

  • ubuntu usb that can be booted on mac and windows?

    I am a little frustrated having to use to separate USBs for booting on mac and windows. Is there a way that I can have the version for mac and the version for windows on one USB? or even better, one version that can be booted on both? I have heard of multibootiso, but I'm not entirely sure that it will work on imac. If needed, I am willing to use terminal to make this happen, even if its a long complicated process.

  • fonts mac vs pc

    Hi all hope your having a good day/evening. Simple question, but maybe not so simple to answer. I have an unordered list, which i am using as a menu. The list items are floated right and sized due to an anchor tag inside them with a roll over. The last element is given a specific size to suck up any extra space. Take the same code to a Mac; Safari/ firefox are displaying the menu to be too short and the only thing i can point to is that the fonts may be smaller in widths. The width is currently set to 970px. My question is: How can i get it to display at the same widths without specifying exact widths for each list item? Any help would be appreciated.     I've been using svn on the command line for 5+ years, but I'm thinking of switching to GUI. The two kings of Mac subversion apps seem to be Versions and Cornerstone. Most of the reviews/comments I've seen comparing the two are from way back in 2008, when Cornerstone was first released. It's now 2010, and both apps have undergone significant changes. Somethig I tried: This error is solved if I change my project file format "MSBuild (Visual Studio 2008)" to "MonoDevelop 1.0" (Preferences Load/Save Project file format to use when creating new projects) There is no problem when building console app project.     I've checked out Apple's Quick Look Programming Guide: Introduction to Quick Look page in the Mac Dev Center, but as a more of a science programmer rather than an Apple programmer, it is a little over my head (but I could get through it in a weekend if I bash my head against it long enough). Does anyone know of a good basic Quick Look Generators tutorial that is simple enough for someone with only very modest experience with Xcode? For those that are curious, I have a filetype called .evt that has an xml header and then binary info after the header. I'm trying to write a generator to display the xml header. There's no application bundle that it belongs to. Thanks!

  • Question about mail merge in DesignPro 1.0.1 for mac

    I'm using Avery DesignPro v. 1.0.1 for mac to print out address labels using a mail merge. There are two columns for addresses (Address1 and Address2), but for most of the entries on the list, Address2 is blank. When I do the mail merge, I get several address labels with a blank line between Address1 and the City, State line because there's no Address2 for those entries. Does anyone know of a way to get DesignPro to ignore Address2 completely if there's no value there, or will I have to go through and manually edit each label to delete the extra blank line?

    Hello, A Facebook Sync app filled the address fields of my Mac Address Book contacts with their cities. Having tons of people who have useless addresses makes it difficult to search by people on Google Maps app (ending up scrolling through many many people- I only want to see those who have proper addresses entered). I want to clear all the home address fields in my address book using applescript. I wrote something small but couldn't get it to work, probably needs some help from somebody who knows applescript :) tell application "Address Book" repeat with this_person in every person repeat with this_address in every address of this_person if label of this_address is "home" then remove this_address from addresses of this_person end if end repeat end repeat end tell I tried to deduct the logic of multiple addresses/phones from other scripts but could only find adding them, not removing them.     Does anyone know when game maker mac is coming out? Game maker got me interested in programing because I thought it was fun but I eventually wanted to make games and programs game maker could do so I want to see if it is any different when the new version comes out. I looked at www.yoyogames.com but found no new info and was wondering if I just not finding it. If you don't know what game maker is its fun to play around in but you probably won't be able to make something as good as you could program it because you are limited.
