  • How does scope in Javascript work?

    I can not understand how scoping works in Javascript. E.g. <html> <head> <script>var userName = "George"; </script> </head> <body> ...... <script> document.write('Name = ' + userName); </script> </body> </html> The variable userName is declared in another "section" of a script. As I understand it the browser renders html and executes code in the order it finds it. So how does userName in the second script tag gets resolved? Does it go to a global setting? Anything I declare earlier is global? I noticed the same happens if I do something like: <html> <head> <script> do { var userName = "George"; //bla } while (someCondition); </script> </head> <body> ...... <script> document.write('Name = ' + userName); </script> </body> </html> Even when userName is declared inside {} it is still resolved in the second script. How is that possible?

  • Howcome some C++ functions with unspecified linkage build with C linkage?

    This is something that makes me fairly perplexed. I have a C++ file that implements a set of functions, and a header file that defines prototypes for them. When building with Visual Studio or MingW-gcc, I get linking errors on two of the functions, and adding an 'extern "C"' qualifier resolved the error. How is this possible? Explicitly adding "extern 'C'" declarations for only these two resolved the linking error, and the application builds and runs. Adding "extern 'C'" on some other function, such as HandleEnd, introduces a new linking error, so that one is obviously compiled correctly. The implementation file is never modified in any of this, only the prototypes.

  • Picker view wont rotate- iPhone

    hi, I am making a booking page. I have included 3 pickers in it. I have included all the delegates required for the pickers to work but it wont rotate. I have enabled user interaction and multitouch in the nib file. Here is my code.     I am new to collection views in Objective-C. Can anyone tell me why I can't see my UILabel embedded in the transparent UIView and the best way to resolve. I want to also segue from the cell to several various UIViewControllers based on the selected index cell. There are a variety of tools available to help you and Support diagnose SOA Suite issues in 11g but it can be confusing as to which tool is appropriate for a particular situation and what their relationships are. This blog post will introduce the various tools and attempt to clarify what each is for and how they are related. Let's first list the tools we'll be addressing: RDA: Remote Diagnostic Agent DFW: Diagnostic Framework Selective Tracing DMS: Dynamic Monitoring Service ODL: Oracle Diagnostic Logging ADR: Automatic Diagnostics Repository ADRCI: Automatic Diagnostics Repository Command Interpreter WLDF: WebLogic Diagnostic Framework This overview is not mean to be a comprehensive guide on using all of these tools, however, extensive reference materials are included that will provide many more details on their execution. Another point to note is that all of these tools are applicable for Fusion Middleware as a whole but specific products may or may not have implemented features to leverage them.   • NPS wont run or install error code 0x80070643

    attempt to install network policy server failed with error code 0x80070643 fatal error during installation. The sbs server ran an update on friday and since then NPS has not worked, I have checked permissions on system32\IAS and the builtin OU but still cannot run NPS. My last attempt to removed and reinstall has now left the machine unable to install NPS at all! Has anyone seen this or have a direction to suggest? Other google's have shown people haven't resolved it!

Whenever I attempt to transfer apps from the iPhone to iTunes it goes through the motions, but never actually transfers anything. It displays the various apps in the info area at the top of the screen, but the progress bar never advances. In comparison when I sync other iPhones, using the same install of iTunes, the progress bar advances and apps are transferred. The same also happens on clean installs of iTunes on other computers, it seems to be my iPhone that is the common factor. I have tried restoring the phone from a backup, which makes no difference. This started happening months ago and the phone has since been upgraded to 3.0 and 3.1, but the problem still persists. Originally it was just a minor irritation, but I made and attempt to fix it which has made things worse. I deleted all the apps from with iTunes and then did "Transfer purchases" in the hope that it might fix something. It didn't fix anything. Also, I cannot now sync at all. If I do sync iTunes now does "transferring purchases", fails to transfer and then deletes all the apps (and data) from my iPhone. It also means I can't sync music, podcasts or anything else. I can't sync anything else, because I can't temporarily turn off app syncing because then iTunes warns that the apps on the iPhone will be deleted. I also tried de-authorising and re-authorising. What can I do to get app syncing working again ? P.S. I have considered deleting all the apps and reinstalling them one by one, in the hope that it will fix the problem. However I don't really want to embark on doing that for 55+ apps and re-entering login details etc for the apps that need them, especially as I might then find out it didn't solve the problem. Update: The latest update to iTunes 9 has improved things in one key aspect. If I let a sync run to completion iTunes no longer deletes all the apps from my phone. So I can now sync all my other data, even if I still can't sync my apps. Resolved: See my answer to the question for how I finally resolved the problem.

    someone told me that this piece of network hardware (NAS) has a security setting such that it can only be accessed by hostname, not by IP address. I don't understand, as I thought DNS resolved the hostname to an address on the connecting client's side, then at protocol level always used the raw address, so how can this 'security' measure be possible?

My network looks like this: Host routed VPN gateway Internet link through VPN 192.168.0.35/24 ---> 192.168.0.5/24 ---> 192.168.0.1 DSL router 10.200.2.235/22 .... .... 10.200.0.1 VPN server The traffic from 192.168.0.32/27 should be and is routed through VPN. I wanted to define some routing policies to route some traffic from 192.168.0.5 through VPN as well - for start - from user with uid 2000. Policy routing is done using iptables mark target and ip rule fwmark. The problem: When connecting using user 2000 from 192.168.0.5 tcpdump shows outgoing packets, but nothing comes back.     It is well known that it is possible to configure a DNS server to do a "catch-all" resolving on a single subdomain level, such as *.example.com. IN A x.x.x.x, so that anything.example.com maps to a single IP/CNAME. However, I need to set up an at least "level-2" wildcard sub-subdomain catch-all wildcard system so that any.thing.example.com or better, item.of.any.level.under.example.com will be resolved to a single IP. Has anyone got this working?

    We are using OpenNMS to monitor a pool of servers, and we have a problem with SMTP in one particular box. OpenNMS is "spamming" us all the time with DOWN/RESOLVED messages for that particular service in that server, and I wanted to mute those notifications momentarely but couldn't find how to do that. I know that I can disable ALL notifications or disable SMTP in ALL servers, but that's not what I want. I'm used to muting a particular service in Nagios, but is it possible in OpenNMS?

  • Multicast hostname lookups on OSX

    I have a problem with hostname lookups on my OSX computer. According to Apple's HK3473 document it says for v10.6: Host names that contain only one label in addition to local, for example "My-Computer.local", are resolved using Multicast DNS (Bonjour) by default. Host names that contain two or more labels in addition to local, for example "server.domain.local", are resolved using a DNS server by default. Which is not true as my testing. If I try to open a connection on my local computer to a remote port: telnet example.domain.local 22 then it will lookup the IP address with multicast DNS next to the A and AAAA lookups. This causes a two seconds lookup timeout on every lookup. Which is a lot! When I try with IPv4 only then it won't use the multicast queries to fetch the remote address just the simple A queries. telnet -4 example.domain.local 22 When I try with IPv6 only: telnet -6 example.domain.local 22 then it will lookup with multicast DNS and AAAA again, and the 2 seconds timeout delay occurs again. I've tried to create a resolver entry to my /etc/resolver/domain.local, and /etc/resolver/local.1, but none of them was working. Is there any way to disable this multicast lookups for the "two or more label addition to local" domains, or simply disable it for the selected subdomain (domain.local)? Thank you!   • Looking for a tool to expand shortened urls

    The interwebs seem to be infested with shortened urls (Twitter I'm looking at you). I'm always reluctant to click these as it is a leap into the unknown. Are there any browser plugins or Greasemonkey scripts that will auto-expand the shortened URL or give me a tooltip with the resolved target? I've seen LongUrl.org, which has an API I could use to roll my own, but I'd like to avoid the effort if this is a solved problem.

    hostname -f says "hostname: the specified hostname is invalid". The hostname (FQDN) specified in /etc/hostname is also listed in /etc/hosts and is pingable. No actual DNS server yet of the host knows. Is this a reason of the error reported or something else? (the OS is Ubuntu 10.04 Server). Update: registering the host at a DNS server (so that the name can be successfully resolved via Internet) did not help.

How is the scanner determining this vulnerability, is it invoking a bad request then looking to see if it's the default Apache 400 response?

However I'm finding that .php files aren't brows-able, unless I don't use php tags. I know very little about the clients server at this point, but I have checked for a .htaccess file and not found one. What else can I do to determine if php is supported? This seems to be resolved.
