  • Designing code for a duo Website + AIR desktop App

    I want to use AIR to create an OFFLINE version of a "webapp" kind of website (lots of ajax, front end code). Haven't been much further than the HelloWorld example, I keep wondering: how do you design your code, to maximize code reuse between the website (say in php or Java or .Net), and the AIR app ? Can you actually re-use 100% of the front end code, provided that it is designed to account for the AIR app ? How would you go about doing that ? For example, the website makes many Ajax calls which have latency, and uses listeners. The AIR app doesn't need listeners it could run database requests synchronously, and it doesn't need to run ajax calls right? Would you write an abstraction layer for that ? So that the same calls on the AIR app will not do a xmlhttp but instead implement the server-side code with AIR; and call the listener ? So you don't have to rewrite the front end code patterns ? Does this make sense ? It's really hard to search on Google. I'm thinking there must be a good article somewhere of somebody who went through and perhaps a framework to do that ?

  • Can managed and unmanaged C++/MFC be mixed in one dll?

    Previously we had software in MFC (VC6), VB6 and C# applications that needed to call the same engine written in C++ (and MFC). The engine required C++ for speed. At the time we decided to use COM as the interface because all three could use it with the least issues in marshalling, etc. Our MFC application is now deprecated and we have recently decided to dump VB6, so what we've got left is C#. We can just leave the COM engine as-is, but it would be nice to get away from COM registration, etc., and have a managed interface to work with. COM registration occasionally causes support issues if there is something wrong with the person's machine. Is it possible to have a dll with the existing unmanaged C++/MFC, and a .NET front end interface?

  • Zend_Auth using multiple tables

    What I'm trying to do is use Zend_Auth for authentication with the issuing being that the 'identity' is stored in a different table then then 'credential.' I'm able to pass an array for the credential and the identity but when it comes to the actual tables I'm not able to get it to accept the array. It ignores the 2nd table name. I was wondering if anyone has ever made this work in this way without extending the Zend_Auth class or if I will need to do so. Thanks in advance.

  • Problem with date_select when using :discard option. (Rails)

    I'm using a date_select with the option :discard_year => true If a user selects a date in the date select, and then he comes back and returns the select to the prompt values of Month and Day, Rails automatically sets the select values to January 1. I know this is the intended functionality if a month is selected and a day is left blank, but that's not the case here. In my example, the user sets both the month and day back to the prompt. By Rails forcing January 1, I'm getting bad results. I've tried every parameter available in the api. :default = nil, :include_blank = true. None of those change the behavior I'm describing. I've isolated the root of the problem, which is this: Because I'm discarding the :year parameter, when the user tries to return the month and day to the prompt values, Rails doesn't see an empty prompt select. It perhaps sees a year selected with empty month and day, which it then sets to January 1. This is the case because the :discard_year parameter does in fact set a date in the database, it just removes it from the view. How can I code around this problem?

  • Need help identiying a nasty rootkit in Windows

    I have a nasty rootkit that not tools seem to be able to idenity. I know for sure it's a rootkit, but I can figure out which rootkit it is. Here's what I gathered so far: It creates multiple copies of itself in %HOME%\Local Settings\Temp with names like Q.EXE, IAJARZ.exe, etc., and install them as hidden services. These EXE have SysInternals identifiers in them so they're definitely rootkits. It hooked very deep in the system, including file read/write, security policies, registry read/write, and possibly WinSock/TCP/IP. When going to Sophos.com to download their software, the rootkit inject something called Microsoft Ajax Tootkit into the page, which injects code into the email submission form in order to redirect it. (EDIT: I might have panicked. Looks like Sophos does use an AJAZ email form, their form is just broken on Chrome so it looked like a mail form injection attack, the link is http://www.sophos.com/en-us/products/free-tools/virus-removal-tool/download.aspx ) Super-Antispyware found a lot of spyware cookies, in the name of .kaspersky.2o7.net, etc. (just chedk 2o7.net, looks like it's a legit ad company) I tried comparing DNS lookup from the infected systems and from system in other physical locations, no DNS redirections it seems. I used dd to copy the MBR and compared it with the MBR provided by ms-sys package, no differences so it's not infecting MBR. No antivirus or rootkit scanner be able to identify it. Most of them can't even find it. I tried scanning, in-situ (normal mode), in safe mode, and boot to linux live CD. Scanners used: Avast, Sophos anti rootkit, Kasersky TDSSKiller, GMER, RootkitRevealer, and many others. Kaspersky reported some unsigned system files that ought to be signed (e.g. tcpip.sys), and reported a number of MD5 mismatches. But otherwise couldn't identify anything based on signature. When running Sysinternal RootkitRevealer and Sophos AntiRootkit, CPU usage goes up to 100% and gets stucked. The Rootkit is blocking them. When trying running/installing HiJackThis, RootkitRevealer and some other scanners, it tells me system security policy prevent running/installing it. The list of malicious acitivities go on and on. here's a sample of logs from all my scans. In particular, aswSnx.SYS, apnenfno.sys and PROCMON20.SYS has a huge number of hooks. It's hard to tell if the rootkit replaced legit program files like aswSnx.SYS (from Avast) and PROCMON20.SYS (from Sysinternal Process Monitor). I can't find whether apnenfno.sys is from a legit program. Help to identify it is appreciated.   • iPhone: Tracking/Identifying individual touches

    I have a quick question regarding tracking touches on the iPhone and I seem to not be able to come to a conclusion on this, so any suggestions / ideas are greatly appreciated: I want to be able to track and identify touches on the iphone, ie. basically every touch has a starting position and a current/moved position. Touches are stored in a std::vector and they shall be removed from the container, once they ended. Their position shall be updated once they move, but I still want to keep track of where they initially started (gesture recognition).   • Need help with a PHP proxy script

    I’m currently working on a small web app that allows people to search for music album covers. However, I’m having a problem getting my PHP proxy to work. Right now I’m using a simple PHP proxy script to grab the HTML from Google’s image result page, and parse it to find the first image result (I can’t use the image search API because it doesn’t offer the parameters that I need to use). I know that the PHP script works in some way, because I’ve used it to grab XML data across domains, so I also assume that since I’m trying to grab HTML that’s what’s causing the error.   • How important is a single-player mode in a 2-player game?

    So say you have a 2 player game, taking Chess as an example (except it's an original game with no ready-to-go AI available). Let's say there's also a social-aspect to the meta-game, so let's say it's a Chess game on Facebook where you can challenge your friends. How important is it to have a single-player mode, knowing that an AI will need to be created (I've done minimax AI for tic tac toe, but nothing too sophisticated)? Is it important enough that it should be in the initial launch of the game? Can it wait for a future iteration (knowing that being hosted on the web means the game can be updated at any time)?

If I execute a script like: ::CONNECT SERVER1 SELECT @@VERSION; ::CONNECT SERVER2 SELECT @@VERSION; ::CONNECT SERVER3 SELECT @@VERSION; I'm sure I'm not the only person that would be surprised to see all three SELECT commands executed against SERVER3 and none executed against SERVER1 or SERVER2.     How can I open a web-page and receive its cookies using PHP? The motivation: I am trying to use feed43 to create an RSS feed from the non-RSS-enabled HighLearn website (remote learning website). I found the web-page that contains the feed contents I need to parse, however, it requires to login first. Luckily, logging in can be done via a GET request so it's as easy as fopen()ing "http://highlearn.website/login_page.asp?userID=foo&password=bar" for example. But I still need to get the cookies generated when I logged in, pass the cookies to the real client (using setcookie() maybe?) and then redirect.

    I am using a layered architecture with the Entity Framework. Here's What I came up with till now (All the projects Except UI are class library): Entities: The POCO Entities. Completely persistence ignorant. No Reference to other projects. Generated by Microsoft's ADO.Net POCO Entity Generator. DAL: The EDMX (Entity Model) file with the context class. (t4 generated). References: Entities BLL: Business Logic Layer. Will implement repository pattern on this layer. References: Entities, DAL. This is where the objectcontext gets populated: var ctx=new DAL.MyDBEntities(); UI: The presentation layer: ASP.NET website. References: Entities, BLL + a connection string entry to entities in the config file (question #2). Now my three questions: Is my layer discintion approach correct? In my UI, I access BLL as follows: var customerRep = new BLL.CustomerRepository(); var Customer = customerRep.GetByID(myCustomerID); The problem is that I have to define the entities connection string in my UI's web.config/app.config otherwise I get a runtime exception. IS defining the entities connectionstring in UI spoils the layers' distinction? Or is it accesptible in a muli layered architecture. Should I take any additional steps to perform chage tracking, lazy loading, etc (by etc I mean the features that Entity Framework covers in a conventional, 1 project, non POCO code generation)?   • Managing multiple customer databases in ASP.NET MVC application

    I am building an application that requires separate SQL Server databases for each customer. To achieve this, I need to be able to create a new customer folder, put a copy of a prototype database in the folder, change the name of the database, and attach it as a new "database instance" to SQL Server. The prototype database contains all of the required table, field and index definitions, but no data records. I will be using SMO to manage attaching, detaching and renaming the databases. In the process of creating the prototype database, I tried attaching a copy of the database (companion .MDF, .LDF pair) to SQL Server, using Sql Server Management Studio, and discovered that SSMS expects the database to reside in c:\program files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\DATA\MyDatabaseName.MDF Is this a "feature" of SQL Server? Is there a way to manage individual databases in separate directories? Or am I going to have to put all of the customer databases in the same directory? (I was hoping for a little better control than this). NOTE: I am currently using SQL Server Express, but for testing purposes only. The production database will be SQL Server 2008, Enterprise version. So "User Instances" are not an option.

  • Access violation when running native C++ application that uses a /clr built DLL

    I'm reorganzing a legacy mixed (managed and unmanaged DLLs) application so that the main application segment is unmanaged MFC and that will call a C++ DLL compiled with /clr flag that will bridge the communication between the managed (C# DLLs) and unmanaged code. Unfortuantely, my changed have resulted in an Access violation that occurs before the application InitInstance() is called. This makes it very difficult to debug. The only information I get is the following stack trace. > 64006108() ntdll.dll!_ZwCreateMutant@16() + 0xc bytes kernel32.dll!_CreateMutexW@12() + 0x7a bytes So, here are some sceanrios I've tried. - Turned on Exceptions-Win32 Exceptions-c0000005 Access Violation to break when Thrown. Still the most detail I get is from the above stack trace. I've tried the application with F10, but it fails before any breakpoints are hit and fails with the above stack trace. - I've stubbed out the bridge DLL so that it only has one method that returns a bool and that method is coded to just return false (no C# code called). bool DllPassthrough::IsFailed() { return false; } If the stubbed out DLL is compiled with the /clr flag, the application fails. If it is compiled without the /clr flag, the application runs. - I've created a stub MFC application using the Visual Studio wizard for multidocument applications and call DllPassthrough::IsFailed(). This succeeds even with the /clr flag used to compile the DLL. - I've tried doing a manual LoadLibrary on winmm.lib as outlined in the following note Access violation when using c++/cli. The application still fails. So, my questions are how to solve the problem? Any hints, strategies, or previous incidents. And, failing that, how can I get more information on what code segment or library is causing the access exception? If I try more involved workarounds like doing LoadLibrary calls, I'd like to narrow it to the failing libraries. Thanks. BTW, we are using Visual Studio 2008 and the project is being built against the .NET 2.0 framework for the managed sections.

Actually it says it connects but does not load any webpages. I tried to get help from this model of laptop owners (Asus G73SW) who uses mostly Ubuntu but they said they never had any problem right from install. So I decided to try out Ubuntu 11.04. Same thing. BUT now I get internet after going into Network Connection edit and changing the Mode from Infracstructure to Ad-Hoc. I get load pages but very slow. And if I'm not mistaken, as I was writing this paragraph, I might have been disconnected. However the wifi bar is full. Please help me this newb because I really want to keep using Ubuntu but I might just have to go back to W7 if nothing can be done. Thank you!

    My program has heavy interaction with the operating system through Win32API functions. now i want to migrate my program to run under Mono under Linux (No wine), and this requires different implementations to the interaction with the operating system. Multiple implementations can be marked with the same PlatformID, and i dont know witch to use in the Main. Using the first one is ummm ugly. How to solve those problems? Can you suggest another design?

  • System freeze after opening Wi-Fi menu can boot into the machine and use Internet in recovery mode

    So right now sitting in front of my Alienware area 51 desktop. It has a Broadcom Netlink BCM 5784M gigabit ethernet PCI E card. Most of the time able to get through the login screen and to the main screen if I click on the wireless settings on the top right-hand corner the system immediately freezes the cursor does not move at all keyboards are unresponsive. I was doing some quick Google searching and I found a suggestion to boot into recovery mode I did this and did a apt-get Distribution update which ran successfully installed then I rebooted into the regular system same thing I'm pretty sure it's the network card because even if I don't click the settings if a network related dialog opens such as disconnection or connection the system again immediately freezes. I'm running Ubuntu 13.04 ** update 1 ** Just was able to use my system for a little bit however when I went into Firefox and hit the web it again froze so obviously a driver problem but I'm not sure how to get drivers for Broadcom which apparently according to the description on stack-overflow is terrible Any ideas? Sorry for lack of punctuation on an ipad.
