• Code editor skins?

  This is a kind of unorthodox question. Frankly, I won't lie to you. I am new to programming and am planning to improve myself. I enjoy coding but I need something to keep me going during the down times, so my question is: Is there such a thing as a code editor skin? A compiler skin? For example, you have the Command Prompt, it has a black background with white writing, it seems geeky, exactly what I want. I want a compiler that looks like command prompt...black with white writing (or green) or still has color coding (some compilers change color of text based on command). Yes, this is mainly for boasting, but I don't want to show someone something that basically looks like a text editor, I just want something that looks a little cooler. P.S (This question may seem a little unnecessary, it is because it is my first question, I'd like to warm up to this community before I start asking some real questions about code.)

• Problems with sticky footer - CSS - main content wont go 100% height (float)

  I'm trying to implement hxxp://www.cssstickyfooter.com however I am having a few problems! See screenshot: hxxp://img22.imageshack.us/img22/2654/71161106.jpg The div "Content" contains both left and right columns. On smaller resolutions this is working as expected however once the user starts to increase there resolution the content doesn't expand as I intend it to. If you notice the blue box. That should stretch to the footer at the bottom of the page. If you notice that the blue divider line (right_container3-4) stops also at the same point. • PHP CMS with independent framework.

  We currently use MySource Matrix CMS for large projects, Wordpress CMS for small projects and Zend Framework for bespoke applications... I'm not trying to confuse and compare a CMS to a framework, that has been done before :-) I want to identify a few CMSs for review that have foundations in strong (preferably independent) PHP frameworks. The only one I have looked at is SilverStripe CMS and Sapphire Framework. We have many clients that have a CMS for internet and/ or extranet and then various other bespoke applications that are then integrated via various means to look like they're in the CMS. I believe it will be more productive and beneficial to have a common framework between these branches so they can be natively merged. Hope this makes sense. PS. I have used custom assets in MySource Matrix and specific modules in other CMS but you feel you are working for the CMS not the application you are building.

• What is your motivation?

  As software developers we all know that motivation matters. Without it we could just stare into the monitor all day long and do nothing. There are some tricks to get yourself motivated like talking to people or doing the fun part of the project, but they do not always work. In the mean time I started to notice that I am most productive when I could see the person who is appreciating my work. The user, who is using the software and enjoying it. Because if there's none, what's the point of writing this code? So I was wondering, what makes you be at your top, is it the users, your fellow coders or maybe the money you get? PS. I know there's quite a few questions about motivation but they all about overcoming current situation. What I want to hear is what makes you come to the office every day, what you enjoy the most in your job, what makes you want to write this code and do it as fast as you possible could.

• UITextView text disappear

  Hi, i create an uitextview dynamically then i write my text into it. Sometime, when i create the uitextview, the cursor disappear and i see no text in it. If i run the application again, i can see the text inside the textview that i've created before. I've tried to set the cursor position to zero or scroll the text to the top but it doesn't work... Any suggestion? Here is a screen capture. • Getting DataBinder Item's max value

  I'm working at the aspx page, and the following code is inserted in a Repeater control: <%# ((System.Collections.Generic.List<double>)DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "BookPrices")).Max() %> Brings up the following error: 'System.Collections.Generic.List<double>' does not contain a definition for 'Max' List does have an method of Max(), so I'm possibly messing up my code somehow. What is my problem? BookPrices is a list<double> object, which I'd like to print it's maximum value. P.S. You guys are great! I didn't find answers for many of my questions on the web. • Storing user info in Session using an Object vs. normal variables

  I'm in the process of implementing a user authentication system for my website. I'm using an open source library that maintains user information by creating a User object and storing that object inside my php SESSION variable. Is this the best way to store and access that information? I find it a bit of a hassle to access the user variables because I have to create an object to access them first: $userObj = $_SESSION['userObject']; $userObj->userId; instead of just accessing the user id like this how I would usually store the user ID: $_SESSION['userId']; Is there an advantage to storing a bunch of user data as an object instead of just storing them as individual SESSION variables? ps - The library also seems to store a handful of variables inside the user object (id, username, date joined, email, last user db query) but I really don't care to have all that information stored in my session. I only really want to keep the user id and username.

• Android Compound Control internal click events

  Hi, I'm writing a custom compound control that extends RelativeLayout. Inside this component, there is an ImageView. I add a OnClickListener to this ImageView to animate it when the user clicks on it. But when I am in an activity using this control and I add a OnClickListener on the control, this listener is never called. It only works when I remove the other listener I have on the ImageView. Does anybody knows how to "propagate" the event to the other listeners when I catch it inside the control? Thanks! PS: I would also like to know if there is an existing control that looks like the icons on the Android desktop. Like an icon with text underneath.

• naive bayesian spam filter question

  Hi guys, I am planning to implement spam filter using Naive Bayesian classification model. Online I see a lot of info on Naive Bayesian classification, but the problem is its a lot of mathematical stuff, than clearly stating how its done. And the problem is I am more of a programmer than a mathematician (yes I had learnt Probability and Bayesian theorem back in school, but out of touch for a long long time, and I don't have luxury of learning it now (Have nearly 3 weeks to come-up with a working prototype)). So if someone can explain or point me to location where its explained for programmers than a mathematician, it would be a great help. • A good web 'desktop' JavaScript, CSS, or both, library that likes ASP.NET Web Forms

  I've come across, in passing, several suites of functions, widgets, frameworks, etc. that seek to produce a desktop like experience on the web. Most are JavaScript and CSS tools that handle web content on an emulation of the desktop-paradigmed UI, e.g. TreeView + Content == Explorer. Is there such a library nicely compatible with ASP.NET Forms without weeks of grief? I'll also settle for something similar, but instead of native ASP.NET, a library for any of the open source CMS products for ASP.NET. (Umbraco is at the top of my list, followed by mojoPortal. I aspire to the level of coding their creators easily demonstrate in the product. [PS, I don't want a 'desktop' ux per se, just light and simple dynamic layout for drag 'n drop, dock windows, a dock bar?.. and other fancy magic.

• How to solve/hack fading semi-transparent PNG bug in IE8?

  As you know, IE6 has bug that can't display semi-transparent PNG file without using non-standard style like filter. In IE7, this problem is fixed. But It still has some bug about PNG file. It can't correctly display fading semi-transparent PNG file. You can clearly see it when you use show/hide function in jQuery with semi-transparent PNG file. The background of image is displayed with non-transparent black color. Do you have any idea for solve this question by using jQuery. Update Let's see my testing As you see, IE8 always incorrectly displays PNG-24 image. Moreover, IE8 still correctly display PNG-8 image when I fade(jQuery.fadeOut function) it only. • Using .net 3.5 assemblies in asp.net 2.0 web application

  I have an .net assembly build against 3.5 framework. This assembly has a class Foo with two method overrides: public class Foo { public T Set<T>(T value); public T Set<T>(Func<T> getValueFunc); } I'm referencing this assembly in my asp.net 2.0 web application to use first override of the Set method (without Func). But on build I get an error saying that I should reference System.Core to use System.Func delegate... but I'm not using this type... Is there a workaround to solve this? PS: There is no option to convert my web application targeting 3.5 framework.

• Send ESC commands to a printer in C#

  My application needs to print invoices, then a get the invoice from database, insert informations os the invoice in a big string (tellling the line, column, etc). after this a have the string ready to be sent to a printer. My problem is: I need to put some ESC/P commands/characters in my big string i try to do something like this: char formFeed = (char)12; Convert.ToChar(12); MyBigString.Insert(10, formFeed); whit this, the line 10 will do a FormFeed, but this not work NOTE: i send the MybigString all at once to printer. to make my code works i need to send the data line by line to a printer ? • C Privilege Escalation (With Password)

  Hey everyone, I need to write a C program that will allow me to read/write files that are owned by root. However, I can only run the code under another user. I have the root password, but there are no "sudo" or "su" commands on the system, so I have no way of accessing the root account (there are practically no shell commands whatsoever, actually). I don't know a whole lot about UNIX permissions, so I don't know whether or not it is actually possible to do this without exploiting the system in some way or running a program owned by root itself (with +s or whatever). • How do I increase timeout for a cronjob/crontab?

  I have written a script that gets data from solr for which date is within the specified period, and I run the script using as a daily cron. The problem is the cronjob does not complete the task. If I manually run the script (for the same time period), it works well. If I reduce the specified time period, the script runs from the cron as well. So my guess is cronjob is timing out while running the script is there is much data to process. How do I increase the timeout for cronjob? PS - 1. The script I am running in cronjob is a bash script which runs a python script.

• Drawing and Animating with UIView or CALayer?

  hello, i am trying to implement a graph which a uiview draws. There are 3 UIViews to animate a left/right slide. The problem is, that i can't cancel the UIView animation. So I replaced the UIViews by CALayer. Now, the question is if CALayer is appicable for this? Is it normal to draw on a CALayer like this? And why is a CALayer so slow when I manipulate the frame properties. CGRect frame = curve.frame; frame.origin.x -= diffX; [curve setFrame:frame]; Is there a alternativ? P.S. I am a german guy. Sorry for mistakes.

• iPhone - Dismiss modal view by a UITabBarController

  Hi everyone, I've got into a very strange problem. I created my own UITabBarController to customize it and it works pretty well... except for the modal views. When I dismiss the modal view (present/dismiss from the UITabBarController) with an animation, it waits until the animation did finished and goes to the first controller of the tab bar! Why does the controller change? and how can I fix it? Thanks PS: My UITabBarController view is on the main window and has a UITabBar on it. The controllers (which are managed by the tab bar) are on the main window over the tab bar controller view with a shorter height. When I present the modal view, I bring the tab bar controller view to front.

• When is a webapp called Beta, alpha, pre-alpha, or none

  I've come across many apps on the web that call themselves Beta. I've come across other apps that had an alpha designation. I've even come across some that called themselves pre-alpha, whatever that means (if you know please clarify). Then I've come across some really bad webapps that shouldn't have left the developer's computer and they didn't have any beta designations. I've also seen some well built apps that called themselves Beta, including Stack Exchange (the mother site of SO) which I believe is very full featured to be called a Beta. I'm a little confused. It seems people are doing it at their whims. Is there an established rule or a checklist that can help decide what stage an app is in (beta, alpha, pre-alpha, or none)? P.S. Please feel free to retag as appropriate.

• web.config, configSource, and "The 'xxx' element is not declared" warning.

  I have broken down the horribly unwieldy web.config file into individual files for some of the sections (e.g. connectionStrings, authentication, pages etc.) using the configSource attribute. This is working file, but the individual xml files that hold the section 'snippets' cause warnings in VS. For example, a file named roleManager.config is used for the role manager section, and looks like this: <roleManager enabled="false"> </rolemanager> However I get a blue squiggle under the roleManager element in VS, and the following warning: The 'roleManager' element is not declared I guess this is something to do with valid xml and schemas etc. Is there an easy way to fix this? Something I can add to the individual files? Thanks P.S. I have heard that it is bad practice to break the web.config file out like this. But don't really understand why - can anyone illuminate me?

• Integrating CKeditor to my symfony2 project

  I was trying to integrate ckeditor to my symfony2 project so that some of the textarea will have the ckeditor html editor. I brought the ckeditor on my required textarea by calling the class="ckeditor" in my form. The issue that I am facing now is that when I use the ckeditor the submit button of my form will not work instead I will have to use the built in "Save" option of the ckeditor toolbar for submitting the form. When I remove the ckeditor from the textareas and use normal textarea the submit button seems to work. I do not want to use the "Save" button on the ckeditor toolbar to submit my form. Is there a workaround to make the submit button work? Tried googling out for possible solutions but could not find any. P.S: I would also like to know if there are other html text editors like ckeditor that would work well with symfony2 and link to implementation instructions.

• javascript - shorten string to fit into a certain # of lines

  Hi I have a string that must fit into a box, and must be at most 3 lines long. To shorten it, I plan to truncate it and end it with '...'. I could shorten it to a certain # of characters but if i make it look good with "wwwwwwwww [...] wwww" it won't look right with "iiiiiiiiiii [...] iiii". Is there some way I can shorten it by how much space the string would take up, as opposed to how many characters there are in a string without using a fixed-width font? Mala ps. Please no "simply create an image of '...' and overlay it over the end of the line" hacks or similar - I actually want to shorten the string to the appropriate length

• jQueryUI Ajax.NET Postback Bug

  Hi, I have this ASP.NET page with ASP.NET UpdatePanel and jQueryUI droppable and sortable components. The page works fine in all browsers, but doesn't in Internet Explorer (IE8 tested). After I try to call ASP.NET AJAX event (by pressing my asp.net button inside the UpdatePanel) my sortable list stops working properly inside IE browser and the browser throws the following error: Message: Unspecified error. Line: 145 Char: 186 Code: 0 URI: http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.4.2.min.js I found out that the problem is caused by the code on line 66: $("#droppable").droppable(); If I comment it out, the sortable list works fine after ajax postbacks. But it doesn't make sense. Does anyone know what could be wrong? Thanks. P.S. I am using jQueryUI 1.8.1 and jQuery 1.4.2

Now personally I'm not fond of its interface which I find very messy, and I found almost no one talking about CDash -- I love CMake and CTest seem nice too. Could you give for each continuous integration server/builder/tester/dashboard a short description of its strong and weak decision points.   Hi Guys, In my iphone app, i need to project 3d scene into the 2D coordinates of the screen for some calculations. My objects go through various rotations, translations and scaling. So i figured i need to multiply the vertices with ModelView matrix first, then i need to multiply it with the Orthogonal projection matrix. First of all am on the right track? I have the Model View Matrix, but need the projection matrix. Is there a glorthof equivalent in ES 2.0? PS: i am new to opengl. Thanks for your help. Zippo

• CVS: command-line diff on a remote CVS server between two HEAD revs

  My CVS-fu is not very strong anymore (after years of SVN'ing and now Mercurial'ing). I'm trying to do a diff between two revisions of the HEAD branch (everything is in the HEAD anyway). I received an IDE already set up to use a :pserver:myname@cvsserver:port/cvs/project CVS. I'm on Windows XP. I do not want to use the IDE (the goal here is to learn CVS a bit more). Apparently I cannot login using SSH to the CVS server. How can I run a remote CVS diff between two HEAD revs using the command line? P.S: I am new here, mod me up so I can comment etc. :)
