• Mozilla Weave can't sync Firefox. What's wrong?

• Changes to JBoss web.xml have no effect

  I just added this to my web.xml on my JBOSS server. But it had no effect. I am still allowed to connect to ports that do not use bi-directional certificate exchange. Server is running: Win Server 2008 w/ SP2 (64 bit) Backup Exec 2010 I am backing up to a Tandberg T24 tape library.

• Freezing of computer while watching flash videos (contd)

  I have asked this similar question Computer freezing while watching Flash videos from net two week before. As i mentioned in my previous problem my computer freezes while watching online videos showing 100% cpu usage. I have tried the suggestions given in that query and I have formated my whole computer and installed windows and other softwares (with latest updates) but the problem still presisting. If i watch a video online approximately after one hour my system shows very high cpu usage and when i close my browser cpu usage comes to normal(i tried to watch Cybergeddon but my computer is freezing from start,and also other youtube videos). Can you tell me whether its an hardware problem? if yes can you give any possible explanation( eg:motherboard problem,over heating etc) because i want to tell those reasons to my computer mechanic.

• Win 7 accessing large files uses 100% RAM

  Running Win 7 64-bit SP1 with 8 GB RAM. I first noticed this problem when using the GUI to copy some large (5+ GB) files from one disk to another. What happens is the physical memory in use rises quite quickly to 100% and the system comes to a crawl. If I just start to access the file in a media player (it is a movie) the memory usage climbs up slowly but eventually reaches 100%. When copying the same files via XCOPY I do not have this problem. Using RAMMAP I see most of the memory usage is under "Mapped File" and is allocated under the "Active" column. If I select "Empty System Working Set" the RAM usage drops back down but then starts to climb back up. Any ideas on what I can check/test to eliminate this issue?

  I have few computers running. I want to get the average CPU usage of these computers and plot it as a graph. So I've collected CPU usage in regular intervals in these machines. So for each computer I have a data set of time and CPU usage. But the times at which CPU measurements are taken in different machines are not in sync. For example in 1st machine CPU may be measured in time 1, 5, 9. In the second machine CPU may be measured in time 2, 5, 8. I want to get an average data series from these different data sets. • What could cause my LAN Pings be greater than 100ms?

  I have 2 servers (Both: Windows Server 2008, Dual Xeon 2.8Ghz, 32GB RAM, 8 x 15k SAS Drives). One of them is a DC / Web server / Exchange Server, the other is a SQL Server (2008). I have a 48 port Netgear GS748T Gigabit switch. When I ping from server to server, I get ping times <1ms, great, but when I ping from a PC, I get varying pings from the occasional <1ms to 500ms!! If I log into either server and look at Task Manager, CPU usage peaks at 20%, memory usage is 100%, but I am led to believe this is normal as Exchange will just use as much as you have, and release it when requested. Network usage peaks at 1%. I really don't understand how the ping can vary that much. I know I am giving very little info, but this is all I know, I apologise, but can anyone help? In response to question, I have pinged by both IP address and hostname, no difference in ping times.

• Error while deploying a web application in OSGI container using pax web

  Hello I am trying to deploy a web application in a Felix container. I have all the required configuration done with my web app like the setting up of the manifest headers: Webapp-Context: Bundle-ClassPath: Bundle-Activator: Import-Package: Bundle-SymbolicName: etc The Pax bundles that I have dropped in the same container are: pax-web-service-0.6.0.jar pax-web-jsp-0.7.1.jar pax-web-extender-war-0.7.1.jar pax-logging-service-1.5.0.jar pax-logging-api-1.5.0.jar Though it had been written in the pax web site that pax-web-service is included in pax-war-extender, it seems without pax-web-service bundle, all other bundles become handicapped. I had removed the other pax bundles like pax-web-extender-whiteboard-0.7.1.jar pax-web-jetty-0.7.1.jar, as I have not seen any usefulness of those. The pax-web-jetty-0.7.1.jar even does not get start up. it has dependencies which it could not be able to resolve from any one of the bundle provided by PAX. • Good option for a transparent internet gateway on Mac OS X

  Hi I have a small network of Mac systems, and would like to add some internal monitoring of our internet usage, which has recently begun to climb. I would like to configure one of the machines as an internet gateway, and install some monitoring software that could provide graph indications of network usage by machine. The machine would then double as a workstation and as the internet gateway. I can manually configure the machines on the network to use it as a gateway, and would prefer to avoid an explicit http proxy (although it is an option if necessary). What software would serverfault users recommend to provide simple, easily configurable and maintainable network monitoring on Mac OS 10.5.7 (non-server)? The simplest requirement is monitor usage by IP Address, but additional tracking (e.g. destination, protocol, etc) would be useful.

• Flash player, HD videos and games are choppy

  I have a problem with flash player. HD videos from Youtube or Vimeo and flash games do not play smoothly. I'm using Flash player 11, Windows 7 Sp1, and my graphic card is Intel GMA 4500. Device Manager shows me that all drivers are installed on my computer, so i don't have any problems with drivers. When I run Google chrome, Resource Monitor shows me 15% ~ 40 % of CPU Usage and 40% used Physical Memory, but when I watch a video on Youtube or play a Flash game, the Resource Monitor shows 70% - 90% CPU Usage. Also, when I run some HD Video (Frame width : 1920, Frame height : 1080) on my computer, Device Manager shows me 80% ~ 100% of CPU Usage. before I Reinstall Windows 7, HD Videos and flash games were play smoothly I hadn't any problem with them !! I hope all these informations are enough to answer my question.

  Hey guys I have a function that I'm using to find stuff, but unfortunately anytime I pass it a control character ($intVal or testing : etc) it chokes. I was wondering what the fix was? • Strange Inode/Ram cache drops happening in CentOS

  I run a CentOS 5.7 machine (64bit) with 24GB ram and 4x SAS drives in RAID10 setup. This machine runs nginx/1.0.10, php-fpm & xcache. About a month back the RAM usage of this machine has changed. About every few hours the 'CACHE' is flushed from the RAM, this happens exactly when the 'Inode table usage' drops. I'm pretty sure these drops are related. (see the 2 attached images). This server hosts quite a lot of small files (20M all a few KB big). Not many files are deleted (maybe 100 per hour (total size a few MB max)), not enough to account for the huge Inode table drops. How can I get Nginx/PHP to use all of my servers RAM?

• Accessing through VPN, which internet connection would be used

  I've a data card which has a limit of 2 GB up/download traffic per month. I've an office internet line which has an unlimited up/download. I've successfully connected to VPN using my data card and by changing certain configurations like DNS etc., have also been able to use my office line for internet (verified by doing a IP check - returns the static IP of our office). Now to my question - is it just a NAT which is happening or am I actually using my office line for all communication. Which one would reflect the usage/trace. The data card usage log at this moment does not reflect any usage (which is confusing since the VPN is over the data card connection). Further more (theoretically), would the net be any faster if my office line is let us say 8Mbps and the data card is 512kbps by doing this as against directly connecting the internet using the data card.

  Here's what the log file c:/Windows/debug/mrt.log of my Windows 7 install says: WARNING: Security policy doesn't allow for all actions MSRT may require. ->Scan ERROR: resource process://pid:6080 (code 0x00000005 (5)) ->Scan ERROR: resource process://pid:5300 (code 0x00000057 (87)) ->Scan ERROR: resource process://pid:3512 (code 0x00000057 (87)) I use the default setup. I didn't change anything. This is the first time I checked the log file and this warning is in there from the start. Can I do something about it? Or I shouldn't be concerned, because it can do everything what's necessary anyway? Do you have this warning in your logfile?

• Way to update / refresh / reschedule project plan after adding a vacation / changing calendar

  I had created a project plan using MS-Project 2010 (not server). I had set the task schedule mode to "Auto Scheduled" and entered the necessary tasks. Since it is a single person project I also added one person to the Resource of the file and assigned that resource to all the tasks and leveled the project. After the plan was put in and tasks were leveled I figured the calendar was not correctly set (in UAE the weekend is Friday and Saturday instead of Saturday and Sunday). So, I updated the default calendar (Standard) of the project by going to Project-Change Working Time-Work Weeks and changed them as needed. But after doing this, the tasks are still scheduled over Friday and Saturday even though I have marked them as nonworking days in the standard calendar. I tried the following for the tasks to refresh, but I was not successful: Updated all tasks to use the "Standard" calendar in the project Selected option so that tasks do not ignore resource calendars Added a constraint "As Soon As Possible" Executed "Level All" Any help on solving this issue would be much appreciated, thanks in advance.

• Where can I find a list of the highest resolution monitors for sale?

  I am always on the lookout for the latest and greatest monitors, but for some reason, I have never found a good resource for this information. And while we know months in advance what new processor will be released, it doesn't seem like we ever know what new monitors will be released until they are. I am tempted to buy a Dell 3008WFP, but since the 30" 2560x1600 monitors have been out for 6 years, I would expect something better is about to be released. Where can I find out what is available in the high resolution / widescreen market and what is soon to be released? • SpeedTracer NETWORK_RESOURCE_RESPONSE vs NETWORK_RESOURCE_FINISH

  I'm using SpeedTracer with GoogleChrome to measure the load times of requested resources. The SpeedTracer site says: NETWORK_RESOURCE_RESPONSE "Indicates that the renderer has started receiving bits from the resource loader" NETWORK_RESOURCE_FINISH "Indictes a resource load is successful and complete." In my mind that means we would always see a network resource response (bytes are arriving) before we see a finish (all bytes received). This doesn't seem to be the case at all. Here is a sample: Request Timing @33519ms for 926ms Response Timing @34445ms for -847ms Total Timing @33519ms for 78ms I'm guessing response time isn't supposed to be negative. Can someone explain this or is this a bug? I'm using Chrome 10.0.612.3 dev with a SpeedTracer I downloaded today.

This is how I would like to allocate bandwidth: For ports 80 and 445 the bandwidth usage can go upto 90% For ports above 1024 upto 65535 the bandwidth usage can go upto 10% For remaining ports the bandwidth usage can go upto 40% The easiest way for achieving the above is using a router with tomato firmware. I have used it and it is very efficient. I want to try if it can be done on a Ubuntu or any GNU/Linux machine. I have googled extensively about the topic and I feel there isn't much information.

SQL 2005 sp2 cu9 x64 Enterprise edition After restarting the resource groups on two node active-active cluster, 3 SQL 2005 instances start up fine. The 4th one starts up but starts throwing the following error. "Enlist operation failed: 0x8004d00e(XACT E NOTRANSACTION). SQL Server could not register with Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MS DTC) as a resource manager for this transaction. The transaction may have been stopped by the client or the resource manager." MSDTC is fine since the other 3 function normally. The only way to "fix" it is to take the 4th instance offline and bring it online again. Is there any way to fix this enlistment without restarting?

• How to design a C / C++ library to be usable in many client languages?

  I'm planning to code a library that should be usable by a large number of people in on a wide spectrum of platforms. What do I have to consider to design it right? To make this questions more specific, there are four "subquestions" at the end. Choice of language Considering all the known requirements and details, I concluded that a library written in C or C++ was the way to go. I think the primary usage of my library will be in programs written in C, C++ and Java SE, but I can also think of reasons to use it from Java ME, PHP, .NET, Objective C, Python, Ruby, bash scrips, etc... Maybe I cannot target all of them, but if it's possible, I'll do it. Requirements It would be to much to describe the full purpose of my library here, but there are some aspects that might be important to this question: The library itself will start out small, but definitely will grow to enormous complexity, so it is not an option to maintain several versions in parallel. Most of the complexity will be hidden inside the library, though The library will construct an object graph that is used heavily inside. Some clients of the library will only be interested in specific attributes of specific objects, while other clients must traverse the object graph in some way Clients may change the objects, and the library must be notified thereof The library may change the objects, and the client must be notified thereof, if it already has a handle to that object The library must be multi-threaded, because it will maintain network connections to several other hosts While some requests to the library may be handled synchronously, many of them will take too long and must be processed in the background, and notify the client on success (or failure) Of course, answers are welcome no matter if they address my specific requirements, or if they answer the question in a general way that matters to a wider audience! My assumptions, so far So here are some of my assumptions and conclusions, which I gathered in the past months: Internally I can use whatever I want, e.g. C++ with operator overloading, multiple inheritance, template meta programming... as long as there is a portable compiler which handles it (think of gcc / g++) But my interface has to be a clean C interface that does not involve name mangling Also, I think my interface should only consist of functions, with basic/primitive data types (and maybe pointers) passed as parameters and return values If I use pointers, I think I should only use them to pass them back to the library, not to operate directly on the referenced memory For usage in a C++ application, I might also offer an object oriented interface (Which is also prone to name mangling, so the App must either use the same compiler, or include the library in source form) Is this also true for usage in C# ? For usage in Java SE / Java EE, the Java native interface (JNI) applies. I have some basic knowledge about it, but I should definitely double check it. Not all client languages handle multithreading well, so there should be a single thread talking to the client For usage on Java ME, there is no such thing as JNI, but I might go with Nested VM For usage in Bash scripts, there must be an executable with a command line interface For the other client languages, I have no idea For most client languages, it would be nice to have kind of an adapter interface written in that language. I think there are tools to automatically generate this for Java and some others For object oriented languages, it might be possible to create an object oriented adapter which hides the fact that the interface to the library is function based - but I don't know if its worth the effort Possible subquestions is this possible with manageable effort, or is it just too much portability? are there any good books / websites about this kind of design criteria? are any of my assumptions wrong? which open source libraries are worth studying to learn from their design / interface / souce? meta: This question is rather long, do you see any way to split it into several smaller ones? • Shared resources in Windows Server 2008 were lost

  We have an Oracle database in Windows Server 2003, which has its archived redo logs stored on a shared resource of a Windows Server 2008: \\192.168.1.189\d$\folder_for_archivedlogs However, according to Oracle's alert.log, at 10:01 p.m that shared resource got lost and the database was inaccessible. From my Windows Server 2003, on Windows Explorer, I couldn't access that shared resource, but I got a response when I did ping 192.168.1.189. I reviewed all the Event Logs on that Windows 2008, but there is no error at 10:00pm or 11:00pm. Has anyone seen some similar case before? (Shared resources get lost, but you still can ping the server and there are no error events in the Event Logs).
