I have a WS 2003 32-bit system running SQL Server 2005 Enterprise with 24GB of RAM. The /PAE switch is enabled. Can SQL now use the 24GB or does AWE need to be enabled?
As anybody who uses VBA in Office 2003 will know, it has the extremely frustrating tendency to do a syntax check every time you click off a line.
For example, if I start writing a line of code, I might go
> For Each application In
And then think "crap, what's the application collection called?" So I'll hit "page up" to find it, and get (in this case) a "Compile Error".
Can I turn this off?
I've been writing a shared addin for Excel 2003. It adds a menu (CommandBarPopup) and a couple menu items off it (CommandBarButton) that when clicked open a WPF window to read a couple values and manipulate the worksheet.
Is there a way to write it so that it would work in office 2007/2010 as well, or is it impossible?
If so, can anyone provide instructions for how that is done?
I wounder what antivirus software is recommended for a Windows Server 2008 or a Small Business Server 2008.
I would like to have one that:
Is easy to maintain.
Has good performance
I don't need anyone that is complex and has support for clients. It's a small office with just a few computers.
I'm fairly certain some data on my server got corrupted and from a dialog box that popped up I think one of the things that got corrupted is logonui.exe
I think this because while the server goes through BIOS and the windows loading splash screen, when it finished that it goes to a black screen with just a mouse cursor that I can move around. But most of the services come back up, for example: DNS, DHCP, DFS, and the print service all load up while it's sitting on the black screen.
Is there anything I can do to repair the logon screen? Maybe copy a file off another copy of Server 2008, get something off the original media (which I have) or bring the system back to a previous restore point?
Thanks! I'm in the weeds right now...
i have sbs2008 with exchange with it and sharepoint

i tried but the mail keeps inside the exchange
what might be the problem?
can anyone give me step by step ,how to make the mail goes to the document library?

I am using CruiseControl.Net for continuous integration which is now accessing the dashboard through login plugin, which in turn is authenticating and authorizing after verifying it with a set of users saved as XML file in the CruiseControl.Net server.
Now, i need to bring in Windows Authentication to the system whereby which CruiseControl.Net server webdashboard when accessed from a client machine(local machine associated with a common server), would be authenticated and be authorized to access the CruiseControl.Net features based on the authority of the logged in users.
Kindly guide me to go ahead with this, appreciate all kinds of resources that would be helpful for achieving this.
Thanks.
First of all, let me give you the specifics of our setup:
Windows Small Business Server 2008 Domain w/ all applicable updates on the DC
The DC does DHCP for the main site
The DC does DNS for all sites
3 sites including our headquarters where the DC is located
All sites are connected through OpenVPN SSL tunnels terminated by an Untangle box at each site
The 2 remote sites us the Untangle box as a DHCP server for their subnet, which assigns the DC as the primary DNS server
Collection of Windows XP and Windows 7 workstations connected to the domain
Here's the issue:
All of the workstations at the main site register with the DNS server on the domain controller fine. As they grab an IP from the DHCP server, it updates the DNS server with the new host record. I have 2 systems (each at different remote sites) that fail to register with the DNS server. I've attempted the following troubleshooting steps:
Confirmed the network adapter is using the DC as a DNS server
Confirmed 2-way traffic is possible between DC and workstation
Verified the "Register with DNS server" setting was checked in the adapter properties
Attempted ipconfig /registerdns and received no errors
For the time being, I have setup a DHCP reservation for these systems and manually created a host record. This seems to work fine, but I need a solution for any new systems that go out there.
I have a client who is using Windows Server 2008 (Small Business Server), and using Windows Backup.
What I need to do is configure the backup task so that, upon completion, it sends an email notifying the client of backup success or failure. I have been able to find that task in task scheduler, and even see where I can send an email...but I cannot find a way to make the content of the email different based on success or failure of the backup. How might I do this?
Hello
Is it a simple procedure to configure ISA Server 2000 to allow an Asterisk IPPBX connect to SIP provider. On asterisk forums they say the ISA has difficulties handling SIP, softphones that i have installed behind the firewall work fine with the provider when the firewall client is installed on the workstation. With asterisk being a linux based system this will not be an option. Is the config a matter setting up port forwarding, is this a more complicated task on ISA server than just selecting the ports i need and then the ip of the internal machine i want to forward them to?
UPDATE: I dont think this is possible from what ive researched

Gary
We have recently completed a server replacement for a customer. They had SBS2011 using Exchange 2010. They now have Server 2008 Std R2 and Google Apps email. We have migrated the DHCP, DNS, Filserver and all 5 FSMO roles to the new 2008 R2 server (today). During the grace period for SBS2011 we intend to decomission the old server completely.
Previous experience would suggest uninstalling Exchange 2010 then demote SBS2011 then remove from the domain and switch off. Can I simply demote SBS2011 without removing Exchange?
Can't really find any walkthroughs on this.
My concern is that if we simply turn off SBS2011 the AD is left in a mess with legacy Exchange objects making any potential reintroduction of Exchange difficult in future, plus I want to do it the right way!
We're running CA ARCserve Backup r12.5 (Build 5854) - Small Business Server Edition on our Small Business Server 2008.
There is a daily job which saves the systemdrive, exchange and 3 databases to our backup storage.
It seems like this daily job creates these additional jobs every time it runs.
I don't know why it's doing this. Can anybody tell me why this is happening?
(I'm sorry this screenshot is in german... "Ergänzungsjob" means something like "extensionjob" or "additionjob")
I am trying to setup Anywhere Access on a Windows Server 2012 Essential Release Candidate, but keep getting this error:
"The domain name was not setup for your server. Wait a few minutes and run the wizard again. An unknown error occurred. Please wait a few minutes and then try again".
These are the options that I selected in the Wizard:
I want to set up a new domain name
Get a personalized domain name from Microsoft
Entered my Windows live id and password
xxxx.remotewebaccess.com
And on the next page the error is displayed.
I have setup my router (Linksys WRT160N) to forward all TCP traffic to the Server.
UPnP is also enabled.
If I hit my public (dynamic) IP (http://188.182.194.182/) I get the Windows Server 2012 homepage.
Any ideas?
This should be simple (because I assume everyone has this problem) but googling and searching of serverfault didn't help much.
I'd like all messages sent to our "office@companyname" to be visible by everyone and I'd like anyone to be able to respond. I also need everyone to at least SEE that a given message has already been answered (the ability to see the actual response would be nice).
I tried using an shared folder for this but it fails miserably because replying to emails leaves no trace, not even for the user that actually sent the message.
I'm open to any kind of solution, even commercial add-on solutions.
Just added a Netgear WG103 Wireless Access Point in our conference room to allow visitors to access the internet through out internal network. When switched on visitors can connect to the intenet and everything works fine.
Except, when the Access Point is switched on, normal users of the network get a Security Alert when they try to start Outlook 2007.
The Security Alert is the same as the one shown in question 148526 asked by desiny back in June 2010 (http://serverfault.com/questions/148526/outlook-security-alert-following-exchange-2007-upgrade-to-sp2)
rather than "autodiscover.ad.unc.edu" my security alert references our "Remote.server.org.uk".
If I view the certificate it relates to "Netgear HTTPS:....", but the only Netgear equipment we have is the new Access Point installed in the conference room.
If the Access Point is not switched on we do not get the Security Alert.
At first I thought it was because we had selected "WPA-PSK & WPA2-PSK" Network Authentication Type but it continues to occur even if we opt for "Shared Key" WEP Data Encryption.
I do not understand why adding a Netgear Wireless Access point would cause Outlook to issue a Security Alert when users try to read their email.
Does anyone know what I have to do to get rid of the Security Alert?
Thanks in advance for reading this and helping me out.
We have a program that compiles executables into a folder into c:\bin. Ideally I would like to share this folder so users can access the exe's within but stop them creating any other files in there. The reason for this is to stop users grabbing source code and putting it in a shared drive then taking it.
We have a Domain Controller setup and all the users belong to a specific security group.
Is there any way to achieve this?
EDIT: TO clarify, I need to stop users from creating or moving files INTO the C:\bin folder which are not executables.
Does anyone know of any alternatives or competitors to RWWGuard?
http://www.scorpionsoft.com/products/rwwguard2008/
I am looking for a two factor authentication system for Remote Web Workplace for Small Business Server 2008. RWWGuard seems good but a little expensive and also I'd like something to evaluate it against.
I have been trying to resolve this error, like many others:
The processing of Group Policy failed. Windows attempted to read the file \domain.local\SysVol\domain.local\Policies{3EF90CE1-6908-44EC-A750-F0BA70548600}\gpt.ini from a domain controller and was not successful. Group Policy settings may not be applied until this event is resolved. This issue may be transient and could be caused by one or more of the following:
a) Name Resolution/Network Connectivity to the current domain controller.
b) File Replication Service Latency (a file created on another domain controller has not replicated to the current domain controller).
c) The Distributed File System (DFS) client has been disabled.
Error code: 5 = Access Denied.
The incredibly helpful post is this one (http://www.experts-exchange.com/OS/Microsoft_Operating_Systems/Server/2003_Server/A_1073-Diagnosing-and-repairing-Events-1030-and-1058.html). Quoting from this post:
HERE IS A LIST OF POTENTIAL PROBLEMS THAT CAN LEAD TO 1030 AND 1058 EVENT ERRORS:
--Sometimes the permissions of the file folders that contain Group policies (the Sysvol folder) can be corrupted.
--Sometimes you have problems with NetBIOS:
--Sometimes the GPO itself is corrupt, or you have a partial set of data for that GPO.
--Sometimes you may have problems with File Replication Services, which almost always indicates a problem with DNS
--Sysvol may be a subfolder of itself: Sysvol/Sysvol
I have the problem listed where sysvol is a subfolder of sysvol.
The directory structure is:
-sysvol
-domain
-staging
-staging areas
-sysvol (shared as "\\server\sysvol")
-domain.local
-ClientAgent
-Policies
-scripts
Interestingly, the second sysvol folder is the one that is shared as "\server\sysvol". This makes me confident this is the issue with the permissions and error code 5.
Also interestingly, my server 2008 R2 servers can see it fine - my server 2008 servers cannot, and get the error. This is consistent across all my servers.
This latter fact makes me uncertain what I need to do to fix this up. Do I, e.g., simply move the shared sysvol folder up a level to replace the non-shared one?
Any help greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Tim.
Small business server 2011 standard - applications randomly closing for remote desktop users
I have an issue where when you are connected through remote desktop (doesn't matter whether you have administrative rights or not).
What happens:
Any application that you run (outlook, word, excel, notepad, cmd etc..) the application will randomly crash and produce an error as such:
Faulting application name: EXCEL.EXE, version: 14.0.6112.5000, time stamp: 0x4e9b2b30
Faulting module name: ieframe.dll, version: 8.0.7600.16930, time stamp: 0x4eeb0187
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x0000000000131e03
Faulting process id: 0x3d4c
Faulting application start time: 0x01cecf3491388e43
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\EXCEL.EXE
Faulting module path: C:\Windows\System32\ieframe.dll
Report Id: 1c06abd4-3b2b-11e3-bd8d-001999b270e9
I noticed the ieframe.dll, but its not constant for every application that crashes, e.g.:
Faulting application name: OUTLOOK.EXE, version: 14.0.6109.5005, time stamp: 0x4e79b6c0
Faulting module name: PSTOREC.DLL_unloaded, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x4a5be02a
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x000007fef39c7158
Faulting process id: 0x43f8
Faulting application start time: 0x01cecf33fe5eec26
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\OUTLOOK.EXE
Faulting module path: PSTOREC.DLL
Report Id: 0c0f5934-3b2b-11e3-bd8d-001999b270e9
I am unable to perform a sfc /scannow command due to the cmd.exe crashing as well..
I have performed a virus scan on the server which did originally pick up 5 viruses:
riskware.tool.ck -> File
riskware.tool.ck - > Memory Process
trojan.agent.bdavgen -> File
trojan.agent -> File
HiJack.comsysapp -> Registry Data
But after removing these and rebooting the machine we have had no luck
Has anyone else ever come across this issue before? Also to elaborate it is happening as frequently as every minute.
I'm being placed under quite a lot of pressure from senior management over a relatively trivial issue. Basically the vast majority of users are complaining that they receive not read notifications (NRNs) for old emails and meeting requests in large numbers multiple times a day. I know something strange is happening because some are delivered at silly times in the morning (i.e 3AM or 4AM).
The problem I have is that these some of these NRNs are from meeting requests and messages that are 120 days old, so some users have deleted the original message so I don’t actually know if the NRN is from an email or meeting request.
This is typical of what users receive as a NRN:

I have done a search and found the following:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2544246
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2471964
But we already installed 'Update Rollup 6 for Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 1' back in December, so I am not sure what we can do to fix this?
My organisation has Exchange 2007 e-mail server, and now, we want to host e-mail service for other organisation (neworg.com)
I added new Authoritative Active Domain neworg.com, but when adding a new mailbox, there is no option to chose new SMTP domain name neworg.com, and I can't add new user with SMTP domain [email protected].
Probably I misunderstood something while reading posts on Internet, but can someone help please?
My exchange server is listening on port 25, that is I can telnet into it and send an email but Outlook 2010/2007, OWA, and ActiveSync are not pulling down emails.
Outlook 2010 specifically says Connected To Exchange Server and Updating Inbox but it never updates the inbox. Also, OWA shows some of the newer mail messages, but when I double click on one to open it up in OWA, it times out.
Any idea what could be causing this? Also Exchange Transport and Information Store are started.
Thanks!
I'm running a Small Business Server 2008 with Windows Sharepoint Services 3.0 (WSS 3.0). I thought WSS was supposed to hide menu items for which the current logged in user don't have access? Apparently, all users can see all links, regardless of whether they have access.
This applies to both links to newly created sub-sites as well as document libraries/lists.
Is this expected behaviour, or is there a misconfiguration somewhere that causes the links to stay visible even for users without access?
Thanks!
Assume I'm working away from the office; its a hotel computer Windows 7, Office 2010 and fast - so the best possible conditions.
Using Companyweb - Every time I open a document, I have to go through the logon process - seems odd to have to do that. Is this a 'by design' feature or is something wrong with my configuration?
When I do open the documents, are they being stored somewhere locally and should I be looking to delete on this computer - or are they in a temporary file?
