I'm looking for a piece of software that will let me hook a phone line up to my PC Modem and place calls over it using my mic and computer speakers. Does anyone have any experience with anything like this?
Can anyone recommend a good things-to-do planner software with the following features:
- tags attached to planned record, ability to filter by them
- Outlook-style calendar
- Both Windows and Linux
- Preferably free
Thank you.
What do you think is the best free distraction removing software for Mac? I get distracted very easily and one main feature that it should have is block certain websites but not the internet connection altogether.
Thanks in advance!
Hi,
We are looking building intranet portal for our staff.
as we need
simple wiki
forum
groups
blog
download
docs
..etc
So which software can do this ?
Thanks.
I've upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7 (64bit) and I found that the very convenient Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall will not work on this version.
I hear the Windows 7 firewall is good enough(even though it never prompts for outbound connections) but Kerio had a nice network monitor feature which showed all applications with inbound and outbound connections and the current speed and bytes transferred for each one.
Is there any software out there that can give me similar monitoring
as what Kerio does?
TCPView is almost as good, but doesnt show transfer statistics.
Is there some kind of software/driver that would enable me to create one big volume out of several hard disks but retain the file structure on each HD?
This would be in case where one hard disk crashes and only data on that HD will be lost.
Windows 7 enables me to do that but in case one HD breaks all data will be lost.
I just came to know about packet writing, which enables files to be written to disc one-by-one, instead of "burning" a whole disc all at once. After some initial searches all I've come up with is:
Roxio Creator - includes DirectCD
Nero Suite - includes InCD
I'm looking for a functional CD/DVD packet writing software for Windows, without the extra bloat.
Do you know of any?
I want to harvest some data like this http://www.newcardealers.ca/en/Dealers/List-A.aspx
And insert the name, address, phone number, email, etc. into a database. Is there some software I can use that will take a webpage, let me specify some regexes or something, and then spit out all the matched data in a CSV or some format easily insertable into a DB?
I need to implement a gateway that will allow me to control the access to the internet of a network made up of a about half a dozen of workstations. My main obejectives are the following:
1- Monitoring of traffic
2- Logging of traffic
3- Access control - block websites (mainly adult) and certian traffic(example torrents)
4- Possibly cache content
5- Easy management interface
6- Preferable free and opensource
Serverfault users can you please suggest from your vast experience which software you think is the best to suit my needs?
Any suggestion is greatly appreciated.
Thank you
I have been looking in using OTRS - ITSM to manage all of our services but wanted to know if any software existed that is not built into a ticket system?
Pretty much want to add all services and tie them to an SLA. Once that is done, we would manually declare incidents and the system would automatically send our notificaton to the proper e-mail lists for downtime/planned maintenance.
Would be nice if it calculates reports for SLAs etc.
thanks
Hello,
I am using Unix (Debian) as my server platform and want to configure the following:
A remote user can connect to a secure VPN server and use its IP to access the Internet, mostly for browsing and e-mail. I read a lot about OpenS/WAN+L2PT and OpenVPN but I am still confused how I should configure it.
I would prefer IPSec+PPTP/L2PT since the road warrior doesn't have to install any extra software on iPhone/Windows7.
Is there a good how-to for IPSec or what would you suggest?
I see an incredible amount of .snapshot files on one of my testing servers. What software creates these files? And can I delete them?
It's filename pattern looks something like xxx.exe-2009-10-24.
What is the best screencast software?
I'm actually choosing between Camstudio and Microsoft expression encoder since they are both free. Which one is better? :)
I am looking for an open source notification/monitoring software which will work much like growl does with a mac.
It would be awesome if I could receive certain messages to my mac computer from my server when lets say it restarts or some predefined error happens etc.
Anyone know of anything like that?
I know of Nagios but I am thinking not as complex.
I have some applications that I'd like to stay with my user forever. I've invested a lot of time in customizing them, and doing it from the start would be rather annoying. To that end, I'm thinking about moving them inside my Users folder, as it is the most redundantly-backed up directory on my computer.
Are there any concerns associated with running software inside the Users directory, save for updating absolute paths? File permissions and security come to mind.
Recently I changed a friend's OS from a really virus filled windows 7 to Ubuntu ..but kept changing os's because lsusb wouldn't detect the camera. But after coming back to windows, the camera wasn't detected, though I must point out the device driver for the camera was never found.
The Sony 'technician' told me that that since the dev-manager of windows 7 couldn't detect the camera , irregardless of whether the device driver was installed, the software change must have damaged the hardware.
I was wondering if there is any truth to it.
I'd like to know whether there is any piece of software that will allow the browsing/searching of SQL Server transaction logs (any version). We've previously used Lumigent Log Explorer against SQL Server 2000 which fulfilled our need, but the product no longer exists and Lumigent's closest replacement doesn't appear to support SQL 2008 (according to the data sheet).
I've discovered something called ApexSQL Audit which may fit the bill, but I'm wondering if anyone has any experience of it, how it compares with Log Explorer, and whether there are any good alternatives out there.
Thanks :)
My Compaq CQ50-215CA laptop with Windows 7 Ultimate RC 32-bit recently told me to replace my battery for fear of sudden shutdowns. Is there any good diagnostics software that anyone has used to test for battery condition and max. life? Also what are good practices for keeping maximal battery life?
Thanks.
I'm interested in any software, experience or guidelines listed that help to deal with listing installed services, their primary user (or business person that is responsible for this service), domain names, ip addresses, ports in your servers.
Servers are both Windows and Linux, so licenses are also good to track with all of this information.
Scale of the infrastructure in question - 20-50 servers.
Currently we have no better idea as to use Excel for it.
Anyone know free software (or very cheap) for creating paid access to WIFI - with tokens mechanism?
Can be on Linux, or Windows...
I have a small Hostel and I want to create paid access to wifi (like 1$ for hour).
A few weeks ago I came across a utility which listed good quality free/open source software and made it easy to install - stuff like Firefox, Open Office, GIMP etc....
...and now I can't find it. Clues gratefully received!

Hi,
I am looking for some software which can version control all my files on my OS (For Windows Server). So I can go back to a file 5 versions old.
I know Genie can do this but I have BackupAssist for backups which Genie also does. I need an app that just offers the above.
