• Unknown and unreproducible crash causes App Store rejection

  After submitting our application several times, we continue to receive the following response: Thank you for submitting My App to the App Store. We've reviewed your application and determined that we cannot post this version of your iPad application to the App Store because My App is crashing on iPad running iPhone OS 3.2 and Mac OS X 10.6.2. My App crashes upon launch. Unfortunately, crash logs have not been generated. However, resigning the same build with the AdHoc entitlements and loading the build onto the device yields no such crash. After a number of attempts, the application simply does not crash as reported by the reviewer. Furthermore, the reviewer does not provide any useful logging that may have been generated by SpringBoard such as an exit status or event if it had worked properly for any other device. There are no calls to explicitly exit or quit the application in the code line and yet the application terminates on startup. What might cause an application to terminate in such a manner? Under what conditions is an application tested that might not be found under a development environment? Could it be a result of a signing issue that the submission validation system is simply unable to catch? Thanks in advance.

• How can I register a custom protocol with xdg?

  I've been struggling this morning trying to associate an application with a custom protocol, namely emacsclient and org-protocol. I'm calling this protocol from a webbrowser bookmarklet, and I get the following behaviour : In chromium, the "Launch Application" dialog comes up, and calls xdg-open org-protocol://... which ends up firing a new chromium frame. In firefox, I've tried setting network.protocol-handler.app.org-protocol to an empty string or my emacsclient path, anyhow I get the following error message : "Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (org-protocol) isn't associated with any program" without even showing any external application selection dialog. I'm not using any desktop environment, so I need to make this work strictly with xdg, however, despite reading the shared mime info spec etc, I still can't fathom a working configuration.

• How do I get around "Access is Denied" [Number: 5 (0x80070005)], with IIS6/FastCGI and PHP 5.2.3?

  I'm getting this error with IIS 6.0 (i assume), and PHP 5.2.3, and FastCGI FastCGI Error The FastCGI Handler was unable to process the request. Error Details: Error Number: 5 (0x80070005). Error Description: Access is denied. HTTP Error 500 - Server Error. Internet Information Services (IIS) Any ideas, nothing revealings in logs (other than 500 errors), this is pretty much all of I have to work with. The script has read and execute privileged for the internet guest account; and, I've added read/execute privileges to the whole D:\PHP. I followed this tutorial http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/247/using-fastcgi-to-host-php-applications-on-iis-60/ to set it up. The only major diversion is I installed PHP to D:\PHP

• Can't serve files without extension because they "appear to be script" on IIS7.5

  I created a certain number of static JSON files with no extension in a subfolder of my site. I want to use them for tests. The problem is that IIS is refusing to serve them because : HTTP Error 404.17 - Not Found The requested content appears to be script and will not be served by the static file handler. The folder is a subfolder of an ASP.NET application and I can't create an application just for it, neither can I change the parent application's application pool. Actually, I don't have access to the IIS configuration other than through the web.config file in the folder in question. I assume there must be a way to get a web server to serve static files, right?

• C/C++: feedback in analyzing a code example

  Hello, I have a piece of code from an assignment I am uncertain about. I feel confident that I know the answer, but I just want to double-check with the community incase there's something I forgot. The title is basically secure coding and the question is just to explain the results. int main() { unsigned int i = 1; unsigned int c = 1; while (i > 0) { i = i*2; c++; } printf("%d\n", c); return 0; } My reasoning is this: At first glance you could imagine the code would run forever, considering it's initialized to a positive value and ever increasing. This of course is wrong because eventually the value will grow so large it will cause an integer overflow. This in turn is not entirely true either, because eventally it will force the variable 'i' to be signed by making the last bit to 1 and therefore regarded as a negative number, therefore terminating the loop. So it is not writing to unallocated memory and therefore cause integer overflow, but rather violating the data type and therefore causing the loop to terminate. I am quite sure this is the reason, but I just want to double check. Any opinions?

• Jaxb unmarshalls fixml object but all fields are null

  I have a small XML document in the FIXML format. I'm unmarshalling them using jaxb. The problem The process complete without errors but the objects which are created are completely null. Every field is empty. The fields which are lists (like the Qty) have the right number of object in them. But the fields of those objects are also null. Setup I've downloaded the FIXML schema from here and I've created the classes with xjc and the maven plugin. They are all in the package org.fixprotocol.fixml_5_0_sp2. In the above sample the Amt array will have five element which matches the number of amts in the file. But all the fields like ccy are null. I've put breakpoints in the classes created by xjc and none of the setters are ever called. So it appears that jaxb is unmarshalling and creating all the correct objects, but it's never calling the setters?? I'm completely stumped on this. I've seen a few posts that suggrest making sure the package.info file that was generated by xjc is in the packags and I've made sure that it's there. There are no working in the IDE about the generated code. Any help much appreciated.

  I have a site running on GS server on MediaTemple. It's Django/PostgreSQL setup. For some reason from time to time I get Bad Gateway error and I can't figure out what's causing it. What can cause this error? • Shared Memory and Process Sempahores (IPC)

  This is an extract from Advanced Liniux Programming: Semaphores continue to exist even after all processes using them have terminated. The last process to use a semaphore set must explicitly remove it to ensure that the operating system does not run out of semaphores.To do so, invoke semctl with the semaphore identifier, the number of semaphores in the set, IPC_RMID as the third argument, and any union semun value as the fourth argument (which is ignored).The effective user ID of the calling process must match that of the semaphore’s allocator (or the caller must be root). Unlike shared memory segments, removing a semaphore set causes Linux to deallocate immediately. If a process allocate a shared memory, and many process use it and never set to delete it (with shmctl), if all them terminate, then the shared page continues being available. (We can see this with ipcs). If some process did the shmctl, then when the last process deattached, then the system will deallocate the shared memory. So far so good (I guess, if not, correct me). What I dont understand from that quote I did, is that first it say: "Semaphores continue to exist even after all processes using them have terminated." and then: "Unlike shared memory segments, removing a semaphore set causes Linux to deallocate immediately."

• Android passing an arraylist back to parent activity

  Hi there. I've been searching for a simple example of this with no luck. In my android application I have two activities: 1. The main activity which is launched at startup 2. A second activity which is launched by pressing a button on the main activty. When the second activity is finished (by pressing a button) I want it to send back an ArrayList of type MyObject to the main activity and close itself, which the main activity can then do whatever with it. How would I go about achieving this? I have been trying a few things but it is crashing my application when I start the second activity. • Removing write permission on home and public_html on Centos/Cpanel

  I'm running sites on two Cpanel accounts on my VPS on WHM. I'm using DSO php handler and Apache server on my Web server. After recent intrusion attacks I've chowned to root with permission 555 on $HOME and public_html folder. I'm on VPS with Cpanel on Centos. I'm running CMS based software like Joomla Drupal etc. Will this cause any problem to my VPS installation or server side processes? Drupal, Joomla, MyBB etc will not be affected by this. Some files will not be created like error_log. At least hackers will not be able to place any malicious code within home folder or the public_html folder.

• Core Data: migrating entities with self-referential properties

  My Core Data model contains an entity, Shape, that has two self-referential relationships, which means four properties. One pair is a one-to-many relationship (Shape.containedBy <- Shape.contains) and the another is a many-to-many relationship (Shape.nextShapes <<- Shape.previousShapes). It all works perfectly in the application, so I don't think self-referencing relationships is a problem in general. So I'm a bit lost really where to go from here. I really can't remove the self-referential properties, so I'm thinking I've got manually create a mapping model that compiles? Any ideas? Cheers

• Can't display Tool Tips in VC++6.0

  I'm missing something fundamental, and probably both simple and obvious. My issue: I have a view (CPlaybackView, derived from CView). The view displays a bunch of objects derived from CRectTracker (CMpRectTracker). These objects each contain a floating point member. I want to display that floating point member when the mouse hovers over the CMpRectTracker. The handler method is never executed, although I can trace through OnIntitialUpdate, PreTranslateMessage, and OnMouseMove. This is in Visual C++ v. 6.0. Here's what I've done to try to accomplish this: 1. • Debugged Program Window Won't Close

  Hi, I'm using VS 2008 on a 64-bit XP machine. I'm debugging a 32-bit C++ DLL via a console program. The DLL and EXE projects are contained in the same SLN so that I can modify the DLL as I test. What happens is that every once in a while I kill the program with Debug | Stop Debugging (Shift-F5). VS stops the program, but the console window stays open! If I'm sitting at a breakpoint and hit Shift-F5, it will terminate properly, but if the program is running full-tilt when I stop it, I often see this instead. The big problem is that I can't close these zombie windows. Using End Task in Task Manager does nothing (no message, no nothing). When I shut down the machine, it is unable to due to the orphans and I have to resort to actually turning off the power. I think this is connected to having the DLL and EXE project in the same SLN, as for months I worked on this project in 2 VS instances, one for the DLL and the other for the EXE. I would continually jump back and forth between the windows as I worked. This problem never happened until I put the two projects into a single SLN. The single SLN works a lot better, but this anomaly is very irritating. Any ideas anyone? UPDATE After a bit of searching (here), I found that it appears to have to do with one of the updates from last Tuesday (KB977165 or KB978037). • Trying to calculate large numbers in Python with gmpy. Python keeps crashing?

  I was recommended to use gmpy to assist with calculating large numbers efficiently. Before I was just using python and my script ran for a day or two and then ran out of memory (not sure how that happened because my program's memory usage should basically be constant throughout.. maybe a memory leak?) Anyways, I keep getting this weird error after running my program for a couple seconds: mp_allocate< 545275904->545275904 > Fatal Python error: mp_allocate failure This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information. Also, python crashes and Windows 7 gives me the generic python.exe has stopped working dialog. This wasn't happening with using standard python integers. Now that I switch to gmpy I am getting this error just seconds in to running my script. I thought gmpy was specialized in dealing with large number arithmetic? For reference, here is a sample program that produces the error: import gmpy2 p = gmpy2.xmpz(3000000000) s = gmpy2.xmpz(2) M = s**p for x in range(p): s = (s * s) % M I have 10 gigs of RAM and without gmpy this script ran for days without running out of memory (still not sure how that happened considering s never really gets larger.. • Why doesn't my PHP install see the MySQL extension?

  So I just set up PHP (Version 5.2.17), MySQL (5.5.28), and Apace (2.2) on my Windows 7 computer. I want to test a mysql connection, but the mysql extension is apparently not loaded (based on phpinfo()). Here's what I did: Changed the extension dir in the php.ini (extension_dir = ".;c:\php\ext") and uncommented the extension=php_mysql.dll line Copied libmysql.dll to the Apache's bin directory Added C:\php to the system's $PATH Restarted the server, then the computer And it's still not working. What did I miss? EDIT: I'm looking through phpinfo()'s outout and it says: "Server API | Apache 2.0 Handler" and I'm running 2.2. Is that a problem?

• SQL Server log backups "stalling"

  I have interited a box running SQL Server 2008 and Windows 2003, and have had a few events where largeish (35GB) log backups "stall", both before and after the installation of SQL 2008 SP1. The server log ships to a standby, so regular log backups are taken at 15 minute intervals. However, after an index reorg causes the log to grow to about 35GB (on a DB with about 17GB of data), the next log backup runs to ~95% completion, then seems to stop. The process shows as suspended, with a wait state of BACKUPIO. CPU, read, and write activity on the SPID also does not change, and the process stays in this state for hours, when normally a backup of this size should complete in about 20 minutes. This server has a single RAID-1 volume, thus the source database files and destination backup files are on the same volume. However, I cannot determine if another process is blocking the backup. The backup SPID cannot be killed, and the only way to terminate the log backup and clear the lock on the backup file is to cycle the SQL Server service. There was one event where the backup terminated completely, with an error that another process had locked the backup file, but no details about what that process was. Can anyone suggest a cause or diagnostic process to this situation?

  I'm testing a jquery app i've written and have come across some unexpected behaviour $('button.clickme').live('click',function(){ //do x (takes 2 seconds) //do y (takes 4 seconds) //do z (takes 0.5 seconds) }) The event can be triggered by a number of buttons. What I'm finding is that when I click each button slowly (allowing 10 seconds between clicks) - my callback function executes correctly (actions x, y & z complete). However If I rapidly click buttons on my page it appears that the function sometimes only completes up to step x or y before terminating. My question: Is it the case that if this function is fired by a clicking second DOM element, while the first callback function is completing - will jQuery terminate the first callback and start over again? Do I have to write my callback function explicitly outside the event handler and then call it?? function doStuff() { //do x //do y //do z ( } $('button.clickme).live('click',doStuff()) If this is the case can someone explain why this is happening or give me a link to some advice on best practice on closures etc - I'd like to know the BEST way to write jQuery to improve performance etc. Thanks

For some reason, when running php -v as a user, i get "cli" as handler # php -v | head -n 1 PHP 5.3.27 (cli) (built: Oct 15 2013 16:06:48) If a make a PHP script with echo shell_exec("php -v | tail -n 1"), i get PHP 5.3.27 (cgi-fcgi) (built: Oct 15 2013 16:22:16) Why the cli/fcgi difference? I need to fix this so that scripts ran by the apache user would be running as "cli", not "fcgi".
