  I went through the process of manually installing ambari (not through SSH, because I couldnt get keyless to work) and everything installed OK, except for HIVE and GANGLIA. • Corosync :: Restarting some resources after Lan connectivity issue

  I am currently looking into corosync to build a two-node cluster. So, I've got it working fine, and it does what I want to do, which is: Lost connectivity between the two nodes gives the first node '10node' both Failover Wan IPs. (aka resources WanCluster100 and WanCluster101 ) '11node' does nothing. He "thinks" he still has his Failover Wan IP. (aka WanCluster101) But it doesn't do this: '11node' should restart the WanCluster101 resource when the connectivity with the other node is back. This is to prevent a condition where node10 simply dies (and thus does not get 11node's Failover Wan IP), resulting in a situation where none of the nodes have 10node's failover IP because 10node is down 11node has "given back" his failover Wan IP. • load-causing processes disappearing from "top" ps -o pcpu shows bogus numbers

  I administer a large number of servers, and I have this problem only with Ubuntu 10.04 LTS: I run a server under normal load (say load average 3.0 on an 8-core server). The "top" command shows processes taking certain % of CPU that cause this load average: say PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND 11008 mysql 20 0 25.9g 22g 5496 S 67 76.0 643539:38 mysqld ps -o pcpu,pid -p11008 %CPU PID 53.1 11008 , everything is consistent. The all of the sudden, the process causing the load average disappears from "top", but the process continues to run normally (albeit with a slight performance decrease), and the system load average becomes somewhat higher. The output of ps -o pcpu becomes bogus: # ps -o pcpu,pid -p11008 %CPU PID 317910278 1587 This happened to at least 5 different severs (different brand new IBM System X hardware), each running different software: one httpd 2.2, one mysqld 5.1, and one Twisted Python TCP servers. Each time the kernel was between 2.6.32-32-server and 2.6.32-40-server. I updated some machines to 2.6.32-41-server, and it has not happened on those yet, but the bug is rare (once every 60 days or so). This includes guest time, guest_time (time spent running a virtual CPU, see below), so that applications that are not aware of the guest time field do not lose that time from their calculations. stime %lu Amount of time that this process has been scheduled in kernel mode, measured in clock ticks (divide by sysconf(_SC_CLK_TCK). On a normal server, these numbers are advancing, every time I check the /proc/PID/stat. On a buggy server, these numbers are stuck at a ridiculously high value like 4611685932654088833, and it's not changing. Has anyone encountered this bug?

  I think the title is pretty self explanatory :) Is it possible, under RHEL (v 5) to install 2 instances of the same packages with 32 bit support for one and 64 bits support for the other one? Obviously, the running host has a 64 bit kernel and has the compatibility libraries required. (in this case, we would need a 64 bits JDK and a 32 bits one). Earlier I had was 64 bit Windows vista which was working fine but now i cant install any of OS. When I try to re-install OS again same error screen pops up? how can I fix this ? I have 4GB of RAM installed does it have problems with 32 bit OS. When I install second OS I didn't reformat the entire hard disk.

• Deploying Memcached as 32bit or 64bit?

  I'm curious about how people deploy memcached on 64 bit machines. Do you compile a 64bit (standard) memcached binary and run that, or do people compile it in 32bit mode and run N instances (where N = machine_RAM / 4GB)? Consider a recommended deployment of Redis (from the Redis FAQ): Redis uses a lot more memory when compiled for 64 bit target, especially if the dataset is composed of many small keys and values. Such a database will, for instance, consume 50 MB of RAM when compiled for the 32 bit target, and 80 MB for 64 bit! That's a big difference. You can run 32 bit Redis binaries in a 64 bit Linux and Mac OS X system without problems. For OS X just use make 32bit. For Linux instead, make sure you have libc6-dev-i386 installed, then use make 32bit if you are using the latest Git version. Instead for Redis <= 1.2.2 you have to edit the Makefile and replace "-arch i386" with "-m32". If your application is already able to perform application-level sharding, it is very advisable to run N instances of Redis 32bit against a big 64 bit Redis box (with more than 4GB of RAM) instead than a single 64 bit instance, as this is much more memory efficient. Would not the same recommendation also apply to a memcached cluster?

• How to generate simple Packing List with MySQL ?

  Hi, I need help on how to create a packing list of a shipment with MySQL. Let's say i have 32 boxes of keyboard ready to ship, the master carton can contain 12 boxes. I only have value 32 boxes and volume of 12. The other value in result below is generated by sql command. Not coming from record. So this easily calculate that the number of master carton would be 3 master cartons, with one as a non-standard quantity. How to perform query on this ? The native DLL is our internal file analysis library, and I need to use it as porting it to C# would be a problem if people update it (other software uses it). The problem is that when I try to execute any method in the native DLL I get a System.ExecutionEngineException thrown. In fact, I've reduced the managed application to a simple tester that just calls a native method, but it still fails. I am on 64-bit Windows 7, but that should not matter as I'm compiling everything as 32-bit binaries. What is also interesting, when I look at the native DLL in the Dependency Walker, it shows that it can't find msvcr90.dll - but when I open any other of our native DLLs in the Dependency Walker, it can find their referenced msvcr90.dll just fine. Can there by some wrongness in the compilation of native DLL that messss up its DLL references?

  Hi, The problem is the following: On Windows x64, pointers are 64-bit, but type long is 32-bit. MSVC doesn't seem to care, and even omits warnings about pointer truncation on the default warning level. Since recently, there is a GCC that target x86_64-w64-mingw32, or better Windows x64 native. GCC produces errors when pointers are truncated (which is the logical thing to do...), and this is causing trouble in WebKit and more specifically, the Netscape Plugin API: First, there's the files (I can only post one hyperlink...): http://trac.webkit.org/browser/trunk/WebCore/ bridge/npapi.h -- defines uint32 as 32-bit int type (~line 145) plugins/win/PluginViewWin.cpp -- casts Windows window handles to 32-bit int, truncating them (~line 450) My proposed fix was to change the uint32 casts to uintptr_t, which makes GCC happy, but still puts a 64-bit value in a uint32 (=unsigned long). I have no clue how to solve this, because clearly WebKit is happy truncating pointers on Win64... How can I solve this the right way? Thanks!

• What's the best way to read/write array contents from/to binary files in C#?

  I would like to read and write the contents of large ( 2GB), raw volume files (e.g. MRI scans). These files are just a sequence of e.g. 32 x 32 x 32 floats so they map well to 1D arrays. I would like to be able to read the contents of the binary volume files into 1D arrays of e.g. float or ushort (depending on the data type of the binary files) and similarly export the arrays back out to the raw volume files. What's the best way to do this with C#? Read/Write them 1 element at a time with BinaryReader/BinaryWriter? Read them piece-wise into byte arrays with FileStream.Read and then do a System.Buffer.BlockCopy between arrays (keeping in mind that I want 2GB arrays)? Write my own Reader/Writer?
