• HTTPS version of page throws 404, regular HTTP appears fine?

  I'm having a strange issue with a website in IIS on Windows Server 2003. It has a valid wild card certificate on it, however when I use HTTPS on the page I get a 404 not found. Without HTTPS it shows up fine. Also, if I go to the domain root of the site using HTTP the homepage shows up, but with HTTPS it REDIRECTS ME to a totally different website installed on the same IIS server. I am quite confused. I tried giving each site a unique IP address but it didn't change anything, I also tried changing the SSL ports, no luck. This IIS is setup to run PHP also. What could I check to resolve this?

  I need help as I am confused a lot with .htaccess Some months back, I removed WWW from the URL of my domain name using following .htaccess lines: RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^example.com$ [NC] RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://example.com/$1 [L,R=301] Now, I also want to remove the trailing slash from the URL, as because I am using WordPress and a page/post will open, no matter if there's a trailing slash or NOT! I request you to please provide me the .htaccess code, so that I can REMOVE the trailing slash. Kindly remember, I don't want WWW also and I have already set .htaccess rule for the removal of WWW Note: 3 Years back when I started the blog, I set the Permalinks Structure without trailing slash. • Evaluate a vendor laptop before deployment to user?

  I get numerous requests from executives and users for new smaller laptops for travel purposes. Most of my evaluation is based upon whether or not it can run certain applications. Mainly lotus notes, office, and video. Most of the laptops include windows 7 OS, and are fully loaded with ram, a high-end processor and a integrated graphics card. My boss whats me to document the usefulness of the laptop and performance. I'm just a little confused on how to setup a document that can be used by members of the IT department for future evaluations.

• clear contents from matched column of data in another sheet

  I have a column of email addresses on sheet 2 col A (but I could put them on sheet 1 if it would make it easier / faster) that I want to remove from sheet 1 col D if matched (there may be 2 or more occurences of the same email to be removed/cleared). (1000s of rows in each sheet). After all day searching forums I’m getting more confused & can't find what I'm looking for. • Office 2010 OCT Outlook Filepaths

  I'm playing around with customizing Office 2010 installs on my network, normally I just do a full manual install, but as the environment grows and the lazier I get its becoming a pain to do it manually every time. I've read up and downloaded the Office 2010 OCT tool and it looks relatively straight forward - with one exception - the Outlook Profile. I can 'get around it' by just leaving it all as default (or not enabling offline use) but I'd like to customise it slightly so that its all setup no matter who logs onto the PC. The only issue I have, and my question is: In the OCT - Outlook section What do you enter into the Path and Filename for the OST file and the Offline Address book seetings under Enable Offline Use section? I'm sweet with everything else - just that one section, and I think if I bugger that one it will kill the whole Outlook Profile?? It would need to go into each users unique filepath for their profile correct? I have a fair idea of what should be there but I'm struggling with the correct syntax. I know this is a stupid question....but its late in the day and my brain is fried ;) As usual - any and all help/assistance is appreciated ;)

• EC2 AMI won't boot after edit

  I did something stupid, I got a new laptop and copied everything over to the new one, then wiped the old one clean. Then I realized that I forgot to copy the private key out of .ssh that I use to connect to my AWS EBS backed instance. So I can't log in to my custom AMI. So I created a new Volume from the Snapshot of the AMI, then started up a public instance and attached the Volume to it, edit the sshd_config to allow for password log in. Unmounted the volume, detached it, made a snapshot of it, then made a new AMI from the snapshot. The new AMI launches, but never passes the Status Checks and is not reachable. What am I doing wrong? Or alternatively how can I fix my problem? • Microsoft CALs for Domain Controller

  I am designing a network and I've come to the point of specifying out the number of CALs required for this network. Microsoft licensing has always confused me, it's just not always clear to me. I plan to have 1 2008 std domain controller, another 2008 server (not a domain controller) and 200 Windows 7 devices connected to the domain for domain services. The 200 W7 devices will all authenticate to the domain controller with the same domain account. (this is a special type of network, not a user workstation network) Therefore, do I need to purchase 200 CALS for the 200 devices, or can I purchase say 10 CALS (user CALS) as the amount of unique user accounts is very low. • INtel SSD RAID Trim

  I just found this article, that says that Intel now supports Trim for SSD RAIDs. It links to this download page. I'm pretty excited about that, but I'm a little confused. There seem to be two sets of drivers, an executable and something that's bootable. I ran the executable. Is that just to apply the drivers to my system now, and are the bootable drivers so that if I re-format, I won't have to re-run everything? Do I need to do both? And is there a way to check if it worked? I'm running an i7 in Windows 7 (ASUS P6T Deluxe Motherboard), if that's significant.

• How to redirect domain to new server?

  I've got a domain registered with a hosting company who I no longer wish to use. I'm happy for them to keep managing my domain, but I want my domain to point to my new (better) server which i've just bought and set up. I know my new server's IP address and Nameservers, What do I need to do in my domain management control panel to make it point to my new server? Change the "A" record to the new IP? Change the nameservers to my new hosts nameservers? Is that it? Are there no other record on either server which need changing? I always get confused by who needs to do what when it comes to domains... Thanks, Hugh

  I have a LXC container (10.0.3.2) running on a host. A service is running inside the container on port 7000. From the host (10.0.3.1, lxcbr0), I can reach the service: $ telnet 10.0.3.2 7000 Trying 10.0.3.2... Connected to 10.0.3.2. Escape character is '^]'. I'd love to make the service running inside the container accessible to the outer world. Therefore, I want to forward port 7002 on the host to port 7000 on the container: iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -p tcp --dport 7002 -j DNAT --to 10.0.3.2:7000 Which results in (iptables -t nat -L): DNAT tcp -- anywhere anywhere tcp dpt:afs3-prserver to:10.0.3.2:7000 Still, I cannot access the service from the host using the forwarded port: $ telnet 10.0.3.1 7002 Trying 10.0.3.1... telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused I feel like I'm missing something stupid here. What things should I check? What's a good strategy to debug these situations? • Why is Thunderbird saying I am working offline when Work Offline is not ticked?

  Thunderbird says "You are currently offline. Do you want to go online to get new messages?" The menu item File-Work Offline is not checked. Is there another "offline" setting? Back story: I moved my Thunderbird profile from another user to my new account today following the instructions here. (it's down as I type). This may be a red herring. I have been sending and receiving happily in the last few hours since - so I remain confused. (Windows 7 Enterprise).

• Setting up a DNS port redirect?

  I have a domain using CloudFlare's DNS, I want to make it redirect to my server's IP (dynamic IP, port 21 blocked by ISP) which at the moment uses a No-IP DNS. The current setup is that I have a subdomain as a CNAME targetting the No-IP domain, but that only works for things like the Minecraft server (which looks for a set port that isn't blocked by my ISP), and I'd like a solution that lets me redirect port 21 from the CloudFlare domain to port 2121 on the No-IP domain, or something else that points to my dynamic IP, where an FTP server is already set up and running. I've had SRV records mentioned to me but without any further help, and it only made me more confused. Thanks in advance for the help.

• windows 7 monitor instantly resumes from power off

  It seems that some service or program is preventing my monitor from going into power save mode but I cannot find a way to dig down the cause. Does anybody know a way to find out which event may be causing the problem? Background information: If I leave/lock my computer I want to immediately power off the monitor. Stupid windows has no program for this so I use a third party utility. I use Display.exe from Noel Danjou since 2005 and have had no problem with it on XP, my Notebook with w7 x64 pro and at the office with w7 x64 enterprise. With my new home pc with w7 x64 pro the monitor goes off but instantly comes back on after a second. So I tested using a power plan with the shortest timeout of 1 minute but with that the display never goes off at all. (Setting a power plan timeout is no useful option because then I cannot read a document or watch a movie without the monitor going off) I could try trial and error methods but this is cumbersome and not what I regard as a professional solution. So I would prefer a way to analyze the windows events to find out the reason for the display staying active. Add On: In the meantime I tried safe mode and also exited from all tray programs but the problem is still there. I also checked the BIOS for special power settings but still no solution (P.S. Mobo is H87-G41 PC Mate with latest BIOS rev.)

• Colocation and HSRP setup

  My colocation provider has setup HSRP for us and has provided us 2 drops (plugged into 1/1/1 and 1/1/2) from their routers as well as a /29 with 2 HSRP IP's and the rest of the /29 usable for the switch. I know that HSRP should be pretty much plug and play as long as the ports are in the same VLAN. However I'm confused as to how to the IP setup should work. Currently I've assigned port 1/1/1 the full /29 however I think this is incorrect because if I were to unplug it port 1/1/2 wouldn't work as it has no IP assignment. What's the proper way to do this?

• hosting company blocking google bots and crawlers [closed]

  Hi, I am having a site for the past three years and it is very active for the past two years. Until not the site is working well and also now but not after the hosting company blocked google bots. Many pages appeared in the first page of the google search. After they started blocking i couldn't see my links in the first page instead they appeared after 5 pages or they did not appear at all. Will hosting companies be so stupid that they block and dont mention it to their users. They want to protect themselves by making the websites at stake. I display google ads and not this month i got only half for this 10 days. I have made requests to other hosting companies like blue host and monster host that i wan to transfer my domain by making a condition that the will not block google bots which stops the business indirectly. so any kind of help will be helpful. how can i claim what i lost from the hosting company. what other hosting companies consider the users (by informing the events like changing the IP or blocking google bot.) It was really working hard to bring up my site but these people just crashed down my site in a few days. :-(

• MAMP - Unable to turn off PHP E_STRICT error reporting

  For some reason, MAMP won't allow me to turn off E_STRICT warnings. I've tried everything from changing the value explicitly in php.ini to error_reporting(E_ALL & ~E_STRICT) in my file... to explicitly saying php_ini('error_reporting', E_ALL & ~E_STRICT). I'm entirely confused as to why this is happening, and from what I can tell its specific to MAMP. The version of PHP I'm running is 5.2.13 - and before you start telling me I shouldn't be ignoring those warnings, lets just be clear that I am using a framework that requires that E_STRICT be ignored. (lame, I know.)

• Fresh install CentOS 6.4 64b with directadmin slowly consumes all memory and crashes

  Dear server fault community, This is my first question on server fault, i'm new to server (mis)configuration so please forgive me for asking something stupid :) I'm running Directadmin on a CentOS 6.4 64b with 4GB memory and over 10000Gh virtual machine. I migrated my websites because my former vps couldn't keep up anymore. Only half of the websites from this 1GB machine were migrated jet. So the migration is still in progress and already my server crashes every day. The server performance up until that moment is perfect. The directadmin log files show nothing out of the ordinary. Yesterday only the mysql server crashed but it also crashed the entire machine before. The memory usage in DA seems to be normal: directadmin directadmin (pid 3923 22158 22159 22160 22161 22162 )8.75 MB dovecot dovecot (pid 3851 ) 47.8 MB exim exim (pid 1350 ) 1.29 MB httpd (pid 21525 21528 21529 21530 21531 21532 21546 21571 21742 21743 21744 )490.4 MB mysqld mysqld (pid 1299 ) 287.8 MB named named (pid 3807 ) 16.3 MB proftpd proftpd (pid 1481 ) 1.91 MB sshd sshd (pid 1173 21494 ) 5.16 MB Restarting services immediately frees up memory, but slowly over time the memory usage increases(about 24 hours to crash). The commands: # sync # echo 3 > /proc/sys/vm/drop_caches Will free al memory correct. I could just create a cronjob but it seems the wrong way around to me. I can't seem to pinpoint the cause. Any advices, references or tips are highly appreciated! • Can ping/nmap server, nothing else

  I was SSHed into our ubuntu LAMP server , and was just doing a svn update, which hung. I disconnected, and since then, I have not been able to SSH in or view any of our websites (neither from my network or through a remote machine). I would have just assumed the server went down, but I can ping the machine and get really quick responses. Using nmap on the box shows all the normal ports open, so I am confused This server is hosted remotely in a datacenter, do I have any remaining options except contacting them for support? Thanks!

• emacs AucTeX:Turn off auto-fill-mode inside a particular LaTeX environment

  I like using auto-fill-mode for hard line wrapping. However, when I'm making a big tabular in a .tex file, I like using align-current to have the table look somewhat like it would when printed. The difficulty is that if I have a table that is longer than the line width, auto-fill-mode breaks it, and then align-current can't put things to rights and gets confused. Is there a way to tell emacs that when I'm between the \begin and \end tags of a particular kind of environment (in this case, tabular), don't word wrap...

• Server error at large posts

  On a large drupal site, the database server is on a separate server connected directly to the web server. The web server uses apache and memcached. The problem is that whenever the post is a large, say larger than 10KB, the server does not return correctly. I checked both apache and mysql logs but could not find any trace of errors being logged. The error happens also when I use nginx/php5-fpm instead of apache. Despite this, the large posts are registered, however incorrectly so that they show up for admin when I open a new page on the site. I'm really confused and appreciate your hints to pinpoint the possible sources if this chronic problem.

• Disable touch pad for mouse button region on new HP pavillion models?

  i bought a new hp pavillion dv6 series laptop. the laptop itself is fine but it has the new hp touchpad mouse which i absolutely hate. its such a stupid problem to have with a computer. the left and right mouse buttons are, themselves, part of of the touchpad, meaning that if i tap the buttons without actually pressing them down, it registers the same way as the mouse pad (the cursor moves, tap to click activates, etc.) this is a major annoyance because it prevents you from operating the mouse pad with anything more than a single finger; if for example i use my right hand index finger to move the cursor using the touch pad and rest my left hand index finger on the left mouse button for more efficient mouse-ing, the mouse will react as if im trying to use 2 fingers to move it and it will either just sit there or will spaz out. the only way this works is if i keep the finger that is resting on the mouse button absolutely still, which is very difficult and, therefore, very annoying. also, even if i do abide by the arbitrary new decree of single-finger mousepad operation, i still have a problem because when i press down on the left or right click buttons, the mouse moves slightly, what with the buttons also being part of the touch pad and all. this would not be that hard to avoid except that they decided to also make the buttons much harder to press down. now whenever i go to click something, i press hard on the mouse button, causing my finger to slightly move or roll or flatten out a bit, causing the cursor to move slightly, and causing me to click on something different. what i would like to know is if there is anyway that i can disable the touch pad on the buttons. i have gone through all of the settings under the synaptics menus but i cannot find anything about this. did i miss something in one of the menus? if not, then are there any updated drivers that allow for toggling of this function?

• How soon does nginx's token bucket replenish when limiting at requests per minute?

  We've decided that we want to experiment and limit requests per minute instead of requests per second on our sites. However, I am confused by the burst parameter in this context. I am under the impression that when you use the 'nodelay' flag, the rate limiting facility acts like a token bucket instead of a leaky bucket. That being the case, the bucket size is equal to the burst parameter, and every time that you violate the policy (say 1 req/s), you have to put a token in the bucket. Once the bucket is full (being equal to the burst setting), you are given a 503 error page. I am also under the impression that once a violator stops going against the policy, a token is removed from the bucket at a rate of 1 token/s allowing him to regain access to the site. Assuming that I have the above correct, my question is what happens when I start regulating access per minute? If we chose 60 requests per minute, at what rate does the token bucket replenish?

• Connecting a Wifi router to receivers with a cable instead of antenna?

  This is a very strange question--I'd go so far as to say it's a stupid question. I'm being told that it is possible to, to describe it briefly, use a cable to connect an access point and a receiver directly to one another. This means that I would unscrew the access point's antenna, and attach one end of a cable to the port. Then, on the wireless receiver, I would also unscrew the antenna and plug in the other side of the cable. I'm being told the connection would work after this, just as a normal Wifi connection would. Bonus mini-question: if this works, would it still work if a splitter were attached to the access point and multiple receivers plugged in to the network? What would happen if I do this? Based on my surprisingly deficient knowledge of radio transmission, I don't think it would work. I would like some help knowing why it won't (or will) though, if possible. This is a somewhat hypothetical question--I realize that Ethernet does this exact job very handily, and I could just throw in a switch instead of the splitter. I simply feel that I should understand this scenario. Thanks for any help you can offer.

• What does Firefox do when "scanning for viruses" after download?

  Never mind the fact that Firefox is a browser and not a AV tool, but what exactly does it do after a download? Even on systems that have an up-to-date AV this generates a pause of several seconds after download (where I can't open the file from within the DL manager) and I have no idea what FF might be trying there. I know I can turn it off (using FF only at work anyway) but I'm wondering. I can think of some things here what it might be: FF itself is a AV scanner and it loads signatures in the background and whatnot. Sounds highly unlikely and shouldn't need tens of seconds for 20 KiB files. FF tries to talk with the installed AV to munch the file. Sounds unneeded, given that most AV programs feature real-time protection anyway and therefore will have caught a virus already and also because FF does that on systems without AV installed too. FF uploads the file to some online virus checker. Unlikely and stupid. FF instructs some online virus checker to download the file and check it. Unlikely and would be a nice target for DoSing that service. FF generates a hash of the file and sends that somewhere (presumably Google) to check for. They then respond with either "Whoa, that hash is totally a virus" or "Nope, that MD5 doesn't look very virus-y to me". I'm running out of better ideas. Anyone have a clue?
