• Duplicate column name by JPA with @ElementCollection and @Inheritance

  I've created the following scenario: @javax.persistence.Entity @Inheritance(strategy = InheritanceType.TABLE_PER_CLASS) public class MyEntity implements Serializable{ @Id @GeneratedValue protected Long id; ... @ElementCollection @CollectionTable(name="ENTITY_PARAMS") @MapKeyColumn (name = "ENTITY_KEY") @Column(name = "ENTITY_VALUE") protected Map<String, String> parameters; ... } As well as: @javax.persistence.Entity public class Sensor extends MyEntity{ @Id @GeneratedValue protected Long id; ... // so here "protected Map<String, String> parameters;" is inherited !!!! ... } So running this example, no tables are created and i get the following message: WARNUNG: Got SQLException executing statement "CREATE TABLE ENTITY_PARAMS (Entity_ID BIGINT NOT NULL, ENTITY_VALUE VARCHAR(255), ENTITY_KEY VARCHAR(255), Sensor_ID BIGINT NOT NULL, ENTITY_VALUE VARCHAR(255))": com.mysql.jdbc.exceptions.jdbc4.MySQLSyntaxErrorException: Duplicate column name 'ENTITY_VALUE' I also tried overriding the attributes on the Sensor class... @AttributeOverrides({ @AttributeOverride(name = "ENTITY_KEY", column = @Column(name = "SENSOR_KEY")), @AttributeOverride(name = "ENTITY_VALUE", column = @Column(name = "SENSOR_VALUE")) }) ... but the same error. • Android Scaled Drawing to ImageView

  Newbie question, so there's probably a simple answer to this problem. I'm drawing some simple shapes using canvas.drawCircle(), canvas.drawLine() etc. I originally copied the code from: http://developer.android.com/resources/samples/ApiDemos/src/com/example/android/apis/graphics/DrawPoints.html Which extends a View and draws directly to a canvas. It doesn't load a pre-drawn bitmap because I need my application to turn data into a drawing and the user will enter the data. My changes work, but the drawing is too small (or big) and doesn't fill the screen using all the available screen. Ideally I'd rather use something like an ImageView in .XML like so: If that's possible. The documentation seems to imply that I want to set the scaleType as shown in the above .XML which seems like the simple way to do this. If using an ImageView in .XML is a good idea, then I'm lost on how to draw to the ImageView and could use some guidance on doing that task. If that won't work, then I'll need to do some more thinking about how to get my drawing scaled on the screen and basically I'm lazy and would rather have Android do the work for me. Feel free to suggest some other way that's completely different is this is the wrong solution path. :) Thanks.

  Hi all i've ran into another problems with VideoView. Then video is playing, and i put device asleep, using hard button, onPause is called. But it followed by 03-17 11:26:33.779: WARN/ActivityManager(884): Activity pause timeout for HistoryRecord{4359f620 com.package/com.package.VideoViewActivity} And then i have onStart/onResume again and Video starts playing. • jQuery ui datepicker positioning problem when scrolling down webpage

  I have a webpage that uses multiple instances of the jQuery ui datepicker. However, if I scroll down the page and then click a datepicker icon, the datepicker does not appear in the screen window but is instead rendered right back near the top of the screen. Any ideas how to solve this? I am using: IE7 asp.net mvc jquery.ui.datepicker.js (UI/API/1.8/Datepicker)

• How can I scale an OSMF player in ActionScript 3/Flex

  I am trying to create a simple video player SWF using the open source media framework in Flex 4. I want to make it dynamically scale based on the dimensions of the video, input by the user. I am following the directions on the Adobe help site, but the video does not seem to scale properly. Depending on the size, sometimes videos play larger than the space allotted on the webpage, and sometimes smaller. The only way I have been able to get it to work properly is by including a SWF metadata tag hardcoding the width and height, but I can't use that if I want to make the player dynamically sized. • java serialization problems with different JVMs

  I am having trouble using serialization in Java. I've searched the web for a solution but haven't found an answer yet. The problem is this - I have a Java library (I have the code and I export it to an archive prior to executing the code) which I need to use with two differents JVMs. One JVM is on the server (Ubuntu, running Java(TM) JRE SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_09-b05)) and the other on Android 2.3.3. I compiled the library in Java 1.6. Now, I am trying to import to the client, an object exported from the server, but I receive this error: java.io.InvalidClassException: [Lweka.classifiers.functions.MultilayerPerceptron$NeuralEnd;; Incompatible class (SUID): [Lweka.classifiers.functions.MultilayerPerceptron$NeuralEnd;: static final long serialVersionUID =-359311387972759020L; but expected [Lweka.classifiers.functions.MultilayerPerceptron$NeuralEnd;: static final long serialVersionUID =1920571045915494592L; I do have an explicit serial version UID declared on the class MultilayerPerceptron$NeuralEnd, like this: protected class NeuralEnd extends NeuralConnection { private static final long serialVersionUID = 7305185603191183338L; } Where NeuralConnection implements the java.io.Serializable interface. • Magento resource model for table with compound primary key

  I am creating a custom module for a Magento ecommerce site, and the module will center around a new (ie, custom) table that has a compound/composite primary key, or rather the table has two columns that make up the primary key. Does anybody know how to create your models/resource models based on a table with a compound key? To give a few more details, I have looked up several tutorials and also used the excellent moduleCreator script. But it seems like all the tutorials revolve around the table having a PK with just one column in it. Something like this: class <Namespace>_<Module>_Model_Mysql4_<Module> extends Mage_Core_Model_Mysql4_Abstract { public function _construct(){ $this->_init('<module_alias>/<table_alias>', '<table_primary_key_id>'); } } Also, I just noticed that looking at the database model almost all tables have a single primary key. I understand this has much to do with the EAV-style db structure, but still is it possible to use a table with a compound PK? I want to stick with the Magento framework/conventions if possible. Is it discouraged? Should I just change the structure of my custom table to have some dummy id column? I do have the ability to do that, but geez! (Another side note that I thought I would mention is that it looks like the Zend Framework provides a way to base a class on a table with compound primary key (see Example #20 on this page - about half-way down), so it seems that the Magento framework should also provide for it... I just don't see how.)

• Covariance and Contravariance type inference in C# 4.0

  When we define our interfaces in C# 4.0, we are allowed to mark each of the generic parameters as in or out. If we try to set a generic parameter as out and that'd lead to a problem, the compiler raises an error, not allowing us to do that. Question: If the compiler has ways of inferring what are valid uses for both covariance (out) and contravariance(in), why do we have to mark interfaces as such? Wouldn't it be enough to just let us define the interfaces as we always did, and when we tried to use them in our client code, raise an error if we tried to use them in an un-safe way? Example: interface MyInterface<out T> { T abracadabra(); } //works OK interface MyInterface2<in T> { T abracadabra(); } //compiler raises an error. //This makes me think that the compiler is cappable //of understanding what situations might generate //run-time problems and then prohibits them. Also, isn't it what Java does in the same situation? From what I recall, you just do something like IMyInterface<? extends whatever> myInterface; //covariance IMyInterface<? super whatever> myInterface2; //contravariance Or am I mixing things? Thanks

• How do I avoid repetition in Java ResourceBundle strings?

  We had a lot of strings which contained the same sub-string, from sentences about checking the log or how to contact support, to branding-like strings containing the company or product name. The repetition was causing a few issues for ourselves (primarily typos or copy/paste errors) but it also causes issues in that it increases the amount of text our translator has to translate. The solution I came up with went something like this: public class ExpandingResourceBundleControl extends ResourceBundle.Control { public static final ResourceBundle.Control EXPANDING = new ExpandingResourceBundleControl(); private ExpandingResourceBundleControl() { } @Override public ResourceBundle newBundle(String baseName, Locale locale, String format, ClassLoader loader, boolean reload) throws IllegalAccessException, InstantiationException, IOException { ResourceBundle inner = super.newBundle(baseName, locale, format, loader, reload); return inner == null ? null : new ExpandingResourceBundle(inner, loader); } } ExpandingResourceBundle delegates to the real resource bundle but performs conversion of {{this.kind.of.thing}} to look up the key in the resources. Every time you want to get one of these, you have to go: ResourceBundle.getBundle("com/acme/app/Bundle", EXPANDING); And this works fine -- for a while. What eventually happens is that some new code (in our case autogenerated code which was spat out of Matisse) looks up the same resource bundle without specifying the custom control. This appears to be non-reproducible if you write a simple unit test which calls it with and then without, but it occurs when the application is run for real. Somehow the cache inside ResourceBundle ejects the good value and replaces it with the broken one. I am yet to figure out why and Sun's jar files were compiled without debug info so debugging it is a chore. My questions: Is there some way of globally setting the default ResourceBundle.Control that I might not be aware of? That would solve everything rather elegantly. Is there some other way of handling this kind of thing elegantly, perhaps without tampering with the ResourceBundle classes at all?

• Java Error beeping

  Im working on a Chat client that i didnt write the bulk of the code for. It works fine however when someone sends a message it beeps (system error beep) when using Java 7. Java 6 and below doesn't have this beep. I cant seem to find whats causing the beep is there any way to find it ? I dont think its calling beep as i have public class nobeep extends sun.awt.windows.WToolkit { @Override public void beep() { System.out.println("tried to beep"); new Exception().printStackTrace(); } } and then called System.setProperty("awt.toolkit", "nobeep"); in the main method. Using the method to send a beep doesnt make it beep. Its only when sent normally. Is there a quick way to track down the cause of the beep ? Edit: After looking in the bugs database - its confirmed. http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=7194469 I know it says no work around but is there one (java not c++) or just wait until update 8 ?

So i made this Enumeration: public Enumeration<Object> getEnumeration() { return new Enumeration<Object>() { private int itemsDone = 0; Collection<Long> keysCollection = getContent().keySet(); Long [] keys = keysCollection.toArray(new Long[keysCollection.size()]); @Override public boolean hasMoreElements() { if(itemsDone < getContent().size() +1 ) { return true; }else { return false; } } @Override public Object nextElement() { return getContent().get(keys[itemsDone++]); } }; } This goes in my Backpack class public class Backpack extends Item implements Carrier, Enumeration<Object>{ The hashmap is returned by getContent(). The problem now is that eclipse keeps telling me I havent implemented the methods from Enumeration. If I use the quick fix it just adds the hasMoreElements() and nextElement() dummy methods in my class. Somehow it doesn't see these methods in the inner class.. Can anyone help me please? Any help is appreciated.

  In my console application have an abstract Factory class "Listener" which contains code for listening and accepting connections, and spawning client classes. This class is inherited by two more classes (WorldListener, and MasterListener) that contain more protocol specific overrides and functions. I also have a helper class (ConsoleWrapper) which encapsulates and extends System.Console, containing methods for writing to console info on what is happening to instances of the WorldListener and MasterListener. I need a way to determine in the abstract ListenerClass which Inheriting class is calling its methods. Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated! I am stumped :X Simplified example of what I am trying to do. abstract class Listener { public void DoSomething() { if(inheriting class == WorldListener) ConsoleWrapper.WorldWrite("Did something!"); if(inheriting class == MasterListener) ConsoleWrapper.MasterWrite("Did something!"); } } public static ConsoleWrapper { public void WorldWrite(string input) { System.Console.WriteLine("[World] {0}", input); } } public class WorldListener : Listener { public void DoSomethingSpecific() { ConsoleWrapper.WorldWrite("I did something specific!"); } } public void Main() { new WorldListener(); new MasterListener(); } Expected output [World] Did something!   I'm trying to change the row highlighting in my FlexTable using KeyCodes.KEY_UP/DOWN. • Overlay only draws between first 2 points in Android

  Hi, I am experiencing an unusual error using ItemizedOverlay in Android. I am creating a GPS tracking device that plots a route between waypoints stored in a database.
