• How do I make Views fill the full width of their parent in my Android app?

    - by Omega
    I have the following layout defined for one of my Activities: <TableLayout android:id="@+id/TableLayout01" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"> <TableRow android:id="@+id/TableRow01" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_width="fill_parent"> <EditText android:text="Resource Name" android:id="@+id/ResourceName" android:lines="1" android:isScrollContainer="false"></EditText> </TableRow> <TableRow android:id="@+id/TableRow02" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_width="fill_parent"> </TableRow> </TableLayout> The layout renders almost correctly, the only problem is that my text box and my button aren't occupying the full width of their respective rows. I've tried specifying fill_parent for the layout width properties, but to no avail, they still only occupy roughly half of the screen. Documentation overall for Android so far has been great, but there are a few scenarios like this one where I hit an invisible wall! Thanks for all the help!

  • Unable to call RESTful web services methods

    Hello, I'm trying to dive into the RESTful web services world and have started with the following template: [ServiceContract] [AspNetCompatibilityRequirements(RequirementsMode = AspNetCompatibilityRequirementsMode.Allowed)] [ServiceBehavior(InstanceContextMode = InstanceContextMode.PerCall)] public class Test { // TODO: Implement the collection resource that will contain the SampleItem instances [WebGet(UriTemplate = ""), OperationContract] public List<SampleItem> GetCollection() { // TODO: Replace the current implementation to return a collection of SampleItem instances return new List<SampleItem>() {new SampleItem() {Id = 1, StringValue = "Hello"}}; } [WebInvoke(UriTemplate = "", Method = "POST"), OperationContract] public SampleItem Create(SampleItem instance) { // TODO: Add the new instance of SampleItem to the collection throw new NotImplementedException(); } [WebGet(UriTemplate = "{id}"), OperationContract] public SampleItem Get(string id) { // TODO: Return the instance of SampleItem with the given id throw new NotImplementedException(); } [WebInvoke(UriTemplate = "{id}", Method = "PUT"), OperationContract] public SampleItem Update(string id, SampleItem instance) { return new SampleItem { Id = 99, StringValue = "Done" }; } [WebInvoke(UriTemplate = "{id}", Method = "DELETE"), OperationContract] public void Delete(string id) { // TODO: Remove the instance of SampleItem with the given id from the collection throw new NotImplementedException(); } } I am able to perform the GET operation but I am unable to perform PUT, POST or DELETE requests. Can anyone explain me how to perform these operations and how to create the correct URLs? Best regards Alessandro

  • Memory leak using shared_ptr

    - by nabulke
    Both code examples compile and run without problems. Using the second variant results in a memory leak. Any ideas why? Thanks in advance for any help. Variant 1: typedef boost::shared_ptr<ParameterTabelle> SpParameterTabelle; struct ParTabSpalteData { ParTabSpalteData(const SpParameterTabelle& tabelle, const string& id) :Tabelle(tabelle), Id(id) { } const SpParameterTabelle& Tabelle; string Id; }; Variant 2: struct ParTabSpalteData { ParTabSpalteData(const SpParameterTabelle& tabelle, const string& id) :Id(id) { // causes memory leak Tabelle2 = tabelle; } SpParameterTabelle Tabelle2; string Id; };

  • ImageViews in a ListView not aligned vertically [Mono for Android]

    - by shalmon
    I'm very new to developing apps to android, so bear with me. Having said that, I'm trying to make a list with a image to the left and a title and description to the right of the image. The image is downloaded from the web in the background and then set in the UI as they complete. This all works. However, the images are not aligned properly and I simply cannot understand why. I'm thinking it has something to do with the layout defined in the xml file? I tried using android:layout_alignParentLeft="true" and android:layout_gravity="left" but that got me nowhere. Then I didn't know how to proceed, even after googling every way I could think of. I'm sorry if this is very basic, but I would really appreciate some help here. Here's a pic of the situation: And here's my layout: <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/widget28" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="80px" > <ImageView android:id="@+id/imageItem" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_gravity="center_vertical" android:layout_alignParentLeft="true" > </ImageView> <LinearLayout android:id="@+id/linearText" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_marginLeft="10px" android:layout_marginTop="10px" > <TextView android:id="@+id/textTop" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="TextView" > </TextView> <TextView android:id="@+id/textBottom" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="TextView" > </TextView> </LinearLayout> </LinearLayout> I appreciate any help you can offer.

  • Android app crashes when I change the default xml layout file to another

    - by mib1413456
    I am currently just starting to learn android development and have created a basic "Hello world" app that uses "activity_main.xml" for the default layout. I tried to create a new layout xml file called "new_layout.xml" with a text view, a text field and a button and did the following changes in the MainActivity.java file: setContentView(R.layout.new_layout); I did nothing else expect for adding a new_layout.xml in the res/layout folder, I have tried restarting and cleaning the project but nothing. Below is my activity_main.xml file, new_layout.xml file and MainActivity.java activity_main.xml: <FrameLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools" android:id="@+id/container" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="match_parent" tools:context="org.example.androidsdk.demo.MainActivity" tools:ignore="MergeRootFrame" /> new_layout.xml:  <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="match_parent" android:orientation="horizontal" > <TextView android:id="@+id/textView1" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="TextView" /> <EditText android:id="@+id/editText1" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_weight="1" android:ems="10" > <requestFocus /> </EditText>  MainActivity.java file package org.example.androidsdk.demo; import android.app.Activity; import android.app.ActionBar; import android.app.Fragment; import android.os.Bundle; import android.view.LayoutInflater; import android.view.Menu; import android.view.MenuItem; import android.view.View; import android.view.ViewGroup; import android.os.Build; public class MainActivity extends Activity { @Override protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.new_layout); if (savedInstanceState == null) { getFragmentManager().beginTransaction() .add(R.id.container, new PlaceholderFragment()) .commit(); } } @Override public boolean onCreateOptionsMenu(Menu menu) { // Inflate the menu; this adds items to the action bar if it is present. getMenuInflater().inflate(R.menu.main, menu); return true; } @Override public boolean onOptionsItemSelected(MenuItem item) { // Handle action bar item clicks here. The action bar will // automatically handle clicks on the Home/Up button, so long // as you specify a parent activity in AndroidManifest.xml. int id = item.getItemId(); if (id == R.id.action_settings) { return true; } return super.onOptionsItemSelected(item); } /** * A placeholder fragment containing a simple view. */ public static class PlaceholderFragment extends Fragment { public PlaceholderFragment() { } @Override public View onCreateView(LayoutInflater inflater, ViewGroup container, Bundle savedInstanceState) { View rootView = inflater.inflate(R.layout.fragment_main, container, false); return rootView; } } }

  • Counting the number of objects that meets a certain criteria

    - by Candy Chiu
    The title doesn't tell the complete story. Please read the message. I have two objects: Adult and Child. Child has a boolean field isMale, and a reference to Adult. Adult doesn't reference Child. public class Adult { long id; } public class Child { long id; boolean isMale; Adult parent; } I want to create a query to list the number of sons each adult has including adults who don't have any sons. I tried: Query 1 SELECT adult, COUNT(child) FROM Child child RIGHT OUTER JOIN child.parent as adult WHERE child.isMale='true' GROUP BY adult which translates to sql select adult.id as col_0_0_, count(child.id) as col_1_0_, ... {omit properties} from Child child right outer join Adult adult on child.parentId=adult.id where child.isMale = 'true' group by adult.id Query 1 doesn't pick up adults that don't have any sons. Query 2: SELECT adult, COUNT(child.isMale) FROM Child child RIGHT OUTER JOIN child.parent as adult GROUP BY adult translates to sql: select adult.id as col_0_0_, count(child.id) as col_1_0_, ... {omit properties} from Child child right outer join Adult adult on child.parentId=adult.id group by adult.id Query 2 doesn't have the right count of sons. Basically COUNT doesn't evaluate isMale. The where clause in Query 1 filtered out Adults with no sons. How do I build a HQL or a Criteria query for this use case? Thanks.

I don't believe I changed any policies or anything on Friday. How should I interpret this?

  • C++ scoping error

    I have the following code: #include "Student.h" #include "SortedList.h" using namespace std; int main() { // points to the sorted list object SortedList *list = new SortedList; //This is line 17 // array to hold 100 student objects Student create[100]; int num = 100000; // holds different ID numbers // fills an array with 100 students of various ID numbers for (Student &x : create) { x = new Student(num); num += 100; } // insert all students into the sorted list for (Student &x : create) list->insert(&x); delete list; return 0; } And I keep getting the compile time error: main.cpp: In function ‘int main()’: main.cpp:17: error: ‘SortedList’ was not declared in this scope main.cpp:17: error: ‘list’ was not declared in this scope main.cpp:17: error: expected type-specifier before ‘SortedList’ main.cpp:17: error: expected `;' before ‘SortedList’ main.cpp:20: error: ‘Student’ was not declared in this scope main.cpp:20: error: expected primary-expression before ‘]’ token main.cpp:20: error: expected `;' before ‘create’ main.cpp:25: error: expected `;' before ‘x’ main.cpp:31: error: expected primary-expression before ‘for’ main.cpp:31: error: expected `;' before ‘for’ main.cpp:31: error: expected primary-expression before ‘for’ main.cpp:31: error: expected `)' before ‘for’ main.cpp:31: error: expected `;' before ‘x’ main.cpp:34: error: type ‘<type error>’ argument given to ‘delete’, expected pointer main.cpp:35: error: expected primary-expression before ‘return’ main.cpp:35: error: expected `)' before ‘return’ My Student.cpp and SortedList.cpp files compile just fine. They both also include .h files. I just do not understand why I get an error on that line. It seems to be a small issue though. Any insight would be appreciated. UPDATE1: I originally had .h files included, but i changed it when trying to figure out the cause of the error. The error remains with the .h files included though. • FCKEditor doesn't set Value property on postback!

    - by Shaul
    I'm using FCKEditor on my asp.net web page. It appears beautifully, and the editor looks really good on the front end. Only problem is, the .Value property is not being set on the postback. No matter what changes the user makes to the value of the control on the page, when I click "Submit", the .Value property remains blank. I have Googled for other solutions, and most of them are of the variety where there's some conflict with Ajax, such as this and this. My problem is not solved by these solutions; it's much more fundamental than that. I'm not doing anything to do with Ajax; I'm just a simple asp.net newbie with a simple web form, and the value property is not being set on postback, not in IE and not in FF. It appears that at least one other person has had this problem, but no solution yet. Any ideas? Thanks! New information: I tried this out on a "hello world" test web site - and the test web site works 100%. There is obviously a problem on my page, but I have no idea where to begin tracking this down. Here's the markup of my page, in case anyone can see anything obvious that my newbie eyes can't: <%@ Page Language="vb" AutoEventWireup="false" CodeBehind="EmailTemplateEditForm.aspx.vb" Inherits="EEI_App.EmailTemplateEditForm" %> <%@ Register Assembly="FredCK.FCKeditorV2" Namespace="FredCK.FCKeditorV2" TagPrefix="FCKeditorV2" %>

EEI - Email Template

  <%@ register src="header.ascx" tagname="header" tagprefix="uc1" %> <%@ register src="footer.ascx" tagname="footer" tagprefix="uc1" %> <uc1:header ID="header1" runat="server" />

Email Template

<asp:Label ID="lblError" CssClass="ErrorControlStyle" runat="server" EnableViewState="False" Width="100%"></asp:Label>

Navigation

<asp:LinkButton ID="btnSubmit" CssClass="LinkButtonStyle" runat="server">Submit</asp:LinkButton>

<asp:LinkButton ID="btnCancel" CssClass="LinkButtonStyle" runat="server" CausesValidation="false">Cancel</asp:LinkButton>

<asp:Label ID="lblEmailTemplate_TemplateName" CssClass="LabelStyle" runat="server" Width="175">Template Name</asp:Label>

<asp:TextBox ID="txtEmailTemplate_TemplateName" CssClass="TextBoxStyle" runat="server" Width="100%"></asp:TextBox>

<asp:Label ID="lblEmailTemplate_TemplateType" CssClass="LabelStyle" runat="server" Width="175">Template Type</asp:Label>

<asp:RadioButtonList ID="rblEmailTemplate_TemplateType" CssClass="RadioButtonListStyle" runat="server" RepeatColumns="1" RepeatDirection="Horizontal" Width="135px"> <asp:ListItem Value="1">Cover Letter</asp:ListItem> <asp:ListItem Value="2">Email</asp:ListItem> </asp:RadioButtonList>

Composition Date

<asp:Label ID="lblEmailTemplate_CompositionDate" CssClass="ElementLabelStyle" runat="server" Width="175"></asp:Label>

Last Used Date

<asp:Label ID="lblEmailTemplate_LastUsedDate" CssClass="ElementLabelStyle" runat="server" Width="175"></asp:Label>

Composed By

<asp:Label ID="lblPerson_FirstNames" CssClass="ElementLabelStyle" runat="server"></asp:Label> <asp:Label ID="lblPerson_LastName" CssClass="ElementLabelStyle" runat="server"></asp:Label>

<asp:Label ID="lblEmailTemplate_Subject" CssClass="LabelStyle" runat="server" Width="175">Subject</asp:Label>

<asp:TextBox ID="txtEmailTemplate_Subject" CssClass="TextBoxStyle" runat="server" Width="100%"></asp:TextBox>

<asp:Label ID="lblEmailTemplate_Body" CssClass="LabelStyle" runat="server" Width="175">Body</asp:Label>

<FCKeditorV2:FCKeditor ID="FCKeditor1" runat="server" Height="500px"> </FCKeditorV2:FCKeditor>

Top of Page

<uc1:footer ID="footer1" runat="server" />
<asp:TextBox ID="txtEmailTemplate_Body" CssClass="TextAreaStyle" Rows="4" runat="server" Width="100%" Height="16px" Visible="False"></asp:TextBox>

  • JQuery Passing Variable From href to load()

    - by dvancouver
    I am trying to pass an href id to load() in JQuery, I can see from the alert the returned id# 960, so I know the id value is getting past I just don't know how to append the load url, well the $("#refreshme_"+add_id) is the important part, I use that to refresh the unique div id in the page assigned by the database pull, so it would be looking for id="refreshme_960". My simple example that is obviously not working. I want to refresh the db select part of the page showing the new list of cars. Any ideas? $(document).ready(function() { $(".add_to_favorites").livequery("click", function(event) { var add_id = this.id.replace("add_", ""); //taken from a.href tag alert (id); $.get(this.href, function(data) { $("#refreshme_"+add_id).load("http://www.example.com/car_list/"+add_id); Add Car

  • Twitter Typeahead only shows only 5 results

    I'm using the Twitter Typeahead version 0.10.2 autocomplete but I'm only receiving 5 results from my JSON result set. I can have 20 or more results but only 5 are shown. What am I doing wrong? var engine = new Bloodhound({ name: "blackboard-names", prefetch: { url: "../CFC/Login.cfc?method=Search&returnformat=json&term=%QUERY", ajax: { contentType: "json", cache: false } }, remote: { url: "../CFC/Login.cfc?method=Search&returnformat=json&term=%QUERY", ajax: { contentType: "json", cache: false }, }, datumTokenizer: Bloodhound.tokenizers.obj.whitespace('value'), queryTokenizer: Bloodhound.tokenizers.whitespace }); var promise = engine.initialize(); promise .done(function() { console.log("done"); }) .fail(function() { console.log("fail"); }); $("#Impersonate").typeahead({ minLength: 2, highlight: true}, { name: "blackboard-names", displayKey: 'value', source: engine.ttAdapter() }).bind("typeahead:selected", function(obj, datum, name) { console.log(obj, datum, name); alert(datum.id); }); Data: [ { "id": "1", "value": "Adams, Abigail", "tokens": [ "Adams", "A", "Ad", "Ada", "Abigail", "A", "Ab", "Abi" ] }, { "id": "2", "value": "Adams, Alan", "tokens": [ "Adams", "A", "Ad", "Ada", "Alan", "A", "Al", "Ala" ] }, { "id": "3", "value": "Adams, Alison", "tokens": [ "Adams", "A", "Ad", "Ada", "Alison", "A", "Al", "Ali" ] }, { "id": "4", "value": "Adams, Amber", "tokens": [ "Adams", "A", "Ad", "Ada", "Amber", "A", "Am", "Amb" ] }, { "id": "5", "value": "Adams, Amelia", "tokens": [ "Adams", "A", "Ad", "Ada", "Amelia", "A", "Am", "Ame" ] }, { "id": "6", "value": "Adams, Arik", "tokens": [ "Adams", "A", "Ad", "Ada", "Arik", "A", "Ar", "Ari" ] }, { "id": "7", "value": "Adams, Ashele", "tokens": [ "Adams", "A", "Ad", "Ada", "Ashele", "A", "As", "Ash" ] }, { "id": "8", "value": "Adams, Brady", "tokens": [ "Adams", "A", "Ad", "Ada", "Brady", "B", "Br", "Bra" ] }, { "id": "9", "value": "Adams, Brandon", "tokens": [ "Adams", "A", "Ad", "Ada", "Brandon", "B", "Br", "Bra" ] } ]

  • XmlException - inserting attribute gives "unexpected token" exception

    - by Anders Svensson
    Hi, I have an XmlDocument object in C# that I transform, using XslTransform, to html. In the stylesheet I insert an id attribute in a span tag, taking the id from an element in the XmlDocument. Here is the template for the element: <xsl:template match="word"> <xsl:attribute name="id"><xsl:value-of select="@id"></xsl:value-of></xsl:attribute> <xsl:apply-templates/> </xsl:template> But then I want to process the result document as an xhtml document (using the XmlDocument dom). So I'm taking a selected element in the html, creating a range out of it, and try to load the element using XmlLoad(): wordElem.LoadXml(range.htmlText); But this gives me the following exception: "'598' is an unexpected token. The expected token is '"' or '''. Line 1, position 10." And if I move the cursor over the range.htmlText, I see the tags for the element, and the "id" shows without quotes, which confuses me (i.e.SPAN id=598 instead of SPAN id="598"). To confuse the matter further, if I insert a blank space or something like that in the value of the id in the stylesheet, it works fine, i.e.: <xsl:attribute name="id"><xsl:text> </xsl:text> <xsl:value-of select="@id"></xsl:value-of></xsl:attribute> <xsl:apply-templates/> (Notice the whitespace in the xsl:text element). Now if I move the cursor over the range.htmlText, I see an id with quotes as usual in attributes (and as it shows if I open the html file in notepad or something). What is going on here? Why can't I insert an attribute this way and have a result that is acceptable as xhtml for XmlDocument to read? I feel I am missing something fundamental, but all this surprises me, since I do this sort of transformations using xsl:attribute to insert attributes all the time for other types of xsl transformations. Why doesn't XmlDocument accept this value? By the way, it doesn't matter if it is an id attribute. i have tried with the "class" attribute, "style" etc, and also using literal values such as "style" and setting the value to "color:red" and so on. The compiler always complains it is an unvalid token, and does not include quotes for the value unless there is a whitespace or something else in there (linebreaks etc.). I hope I have provided enough information. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Basically, what I want to accomplish is set an id in a span element in html, select a word in a webbrowser control with this document loaded, and get the id attribute out of the selected element. I've accomplished everything, and can actually do what I want, but only if I use regex e.g. to get the attribute value, and I want to be able to use XmlDocument instead to simply get the value out of the attribute directly. I'm sure I'm missing something simple, but if so please tell me. Regards, Anders

  • CrossPage PostBack in series of web pages

    - by Vishnu Reddy
    I had a requirement to pass data between pages in my application. I have a Page A where user will input some data and on submit User will be redirected to Page B where again user will enter some more data and on submitting user will be show a confirmation in Page C after doing some calculations and data saving. Following is the idea I was trying to use: PageA.aspx:
Name: <asp:TextBox ID="txtName" runat="server"></asp:TextBox>

Age: <asp:TextBox ID="txtAge" runat="server"></asp:TextBox>

<asp:Button ID="btnPostToPageB" runat="server" Text="Post To PageB" PostBackUrl="~/PageB.aspx" />
  In Page A Codebehind file I am creating following public properties of the inputs to access in Page B: public string Name { get { return txtName.Text.ToString(); } } public int Age { get { return Convert.ToInt32(txtAge.Text); } } In PageB.aspx: using previouspage directive to access page A public properties <%@ PreviousPageType VirtualPath="~/PageA.aspx" %  <asp:HiddenField ID="hfName" runat="server" /> <asp:HiddenField ID="hfAge" runat="server" />
<asp:RadioButtonList ID="rblGender" runat="server" TextAlign="Right" RepeatDirection="Horizontal"> <asp:ListItem Value="Female">Female</asp:ListItem> <asp:ListItem Value="Male">Male</asp:ListItem> </asp:RadioButtonList>

<asp:Button ID="btnPostToPageC" runat="server" Text="Post To PageC" PostBackUrl="~/PageC.aspx" />
  In Page B Codebehind file I am creating following public properties for the inputs to access in Page C: public RadioButtonList Gender { get { return rblGender; } } public string Name { get { return _name; } } public int Age { get { return _age; } } //checking if data is posted from Page A otherwise redirecting User to Page A protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (PreviousPage != null && PreviousPage.IsCrossPagePostBack && PreviousPage.IsValid) { hfName.Value = PreviousPage.Name; hfAge.Value = PreviousPage.Age.ToString(); } else Response.Redirect("PageA.aspx"); }` in PageC.aspx: using previouspage directive to access page A public properties <%@ PreviousPageType VirtualPath="~/PageB.aspx" %
Name: <asp:Label ID="lblName" runat="server"></asp:Label>

Age: <asp:Label ID="lblAge" runat="server"></asp:Label>

Gender: <asp:Label ID="lblGender" runat="server"></asp:Label>

<asp:Button ID="btnBack" runat="server" Text="Back" PostBackUrl="~/PageA.aspx" />
  Page C code behind file: if (PreviousPage != null && PreviousPage.IsCrossPagePostBack && PreviousPage.IsValid) { lblName.Text = PreviousPage.Name.ToString(); lblAge.Text = PreviousPage.Age.ToString(); lblGender.Text = PreviousPage.Gender.SelectedValue.ToString(); } else Response.Redirect("PageA.aspx");

  • How can I make named_scope in Rails return one value instead of an array?

    - by sameera207
    I want to write a [named scope] to get a record from its id. For example, I have a model called Event, and I want to simulate Event.find(id) with use of named_scope for future flexibility. I used this code in my model: named_scope :from_id, lambda { |id| {:conditions => ['id= ?', id] } } and I call it from my controller like Event.from_id(id). But my problem is that it returns an array of Event objects instead of just one object. Thus if I want to get event name, I have to write event = Event.from_id(id) event[0].name while what I want is event = Event.from_id(id) event.name Am I doing something wrong here?

  • How to get javascript object references or reference count?

    - by Tauren
    How to get reference count for an object Is it possible to determine if a javascript object has multiple references to it? Or if it has references besides the one I'm accessing it with? Or even just to get the reference count itself? Can I find this information from javascript itself, or will I need to keep track of my own reference counters. Obviously, there must be at least one reference to it for my code access the object. But what I want to know is if there are any other references to it, or if my code is the only place it is accessed. I'd like to be able to delete the object if nothing else is referencing it. If you know the answer, there is no need to read the rest of this question. Below is just an example to make things more clear. Use Case In my application, I have a Repository object instance called contacts that contains an array of ALL my contacts. There are also multiple Collection object instances, such as friends collection and a coworkers collection. Each collection contains an array with a different set of items from the contacts Repository. Sample Code To make this concept more concrete, consider the code below. Each instance of the Repository object contains a list of all items of a particular type. You might have a repository of Contacts and a separate repository of Events. To keep it simple, you can just get, add, and remove items, and add many via the constructor. var Repository = function(items) { this.items = items || []; } Repository.prototype.get = function(id) { for (var i=0,len=this.items.length; i<len; i++) { if (items[i].id === id) { return this.items[i]; } } } Repository.prototype.add = function(item) { if (toString.call(item) === "[object Array]") { this.items.concat(item); } else { this.items.push(item); } } Repository.prototype.remove = function(id) { for (var i=0,len=this.items.length; i<len; i++) { if (items[i].id === id) { this.removeIndex(i); } } } Repository.prototype.removeIndex = function(index) { if (items[index]) { if (/* items[i] has more than 1 reference to it */) { // Only remove item from repository if nothing else references it this.items.splice(index,1); return; } } } Note the line in remove with the comment. I only want to remove the item from my master repository of objects if no other objects have a reference to the item. Here's Collection: var Collection = function(repo,items) { this.repo = repo; this.items = items || []; } Collection.prototype.remove = function(id) { for (var i=0,len=this.items.length; i<len; i++) { if (items[i].id === id) { // Remove object from this collection this.items.splice(i,1); // Tell repo to remove it (only if no other references to it) repo.removeIndxe(i); return; } } } And then this code uses Repository and Collection: var contactRepo = new Repository([ {id: 1, name: "Joe"}, {id: 2, name: "Jane"}, {id: 3, name: "Tom"}, {id: 4, name: "Jack"}, {id: 5, name: "Sue"} ]); var friends = new Collection( contactRepo, [ contactRepo.get(2), contactRepo.get(4) ] ); var coworkers = new Collection( contactRepo, [ contactRepo.get(1), contactRepo.get(2), contactRepo.get(5) ] ); contactRepo.items; // contains item ids 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 friends.items; // contains item ids 2, 4 coworkers.items; // contains item ids 1, 2, 5 coworkers.remove(2); contactRepo.items; // contains item ids 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 friends.items; // contains item ids 2, 4 coworkers.items; // contains item ids 1, 5 friends.remove(4); contactRepo.items; // contains item ids 1, 2, 3, 5 friends.items; // contains item ids 2 coworkers.items; // contains item ids 1, 5 Notice how coworkers.remove(2) didn't remove id 2 from contactRepo? This is because it was still referenced from friends.items. However, friends.remove(4) causes id 4 to be removed from contactRepo, because no other collection is referring to it. Summary The above is what I want to do. I'm sure there are ways I can do this by keeping track of my own reference counters and such. But if there is a way to do it using javascript's built-in reference management, I'd like to hear about how to use it.

  • Intermittent Internet Explorer Error whilst using Javascript to traverse XML Nodes

    - by Sykth
    Hi there all, Basically I use a javascript SOAP plugin to send and receive XML from a web service. Recently I've been experiencing intermittment (1 in every 20-30 times) errors in IE when trying to access data in the XML file. Bear with me on this, I'm going to try and go into a fair amount of detail to help anyone who is willing to read this: I have a html file, with an external javascript file attached. In the javascript file I include 5 global variables: var soapRes; var questionXML; var xRoot; var assessnode; var edStage = 0; Once the html file is at a readystate I request the XML file from the web service like this: function initNextStage(strA) { // Set pl Parameters here var pl = new SOAPClientParameters(); // soap call var r = SOAPClient.invoke(url, "LoadAssessment", pl, true, initStage_callBack); } function initStage_callBack(r, soapResponse) { soapRes = soapResponse; initvalues(); function initvalues(){ xRoot = soapRes.documentElement; assessnode = xRoot.getElementsByTagName("ed")[0]; questionXML = assessnode.getElementsByTagName("question")[edStage]; } } Once this is completed the XML should be loaded into memory via the global variable soapRes. I then save values to the XML before moving one node down the XML tree, and pulling the next set of values out of it. function submitAns1() { var objAns; var corElem; var corElemTxt; questionXML = assessnode.getElementsByTagName("question")[edStage]; objAns = questionXML.getElementsByTagName("item")[0].getAttribute("answer"); corElem = soapRes.createElement("correct"); corElemTxt = soapRes.createTextNode("value"); questionXML.appendChild(corElem); corElem.appendChild(corElemTxt); if(objAns == "t") { corElemTxt.nodeValue = "true"; } else { corElemTxt.nodeValue = "false"; } edStage++; questionXML = assessnode.getElementsByTagName("question")[edStage]; var inc1 = questionXML.getElementsByTagName("sentence")[0]; var inc2 = questionXML.getElementsByTagName("sentence")[1]; var edopt1 = questionXML.getElementsByTagName("item")[0]; var edopt2 = questionXML.getElementsByTagName("item")[1]; var edopt3 = questionXML.getElementsByTagName("item")[2]; var edopt4 = questionXML.getElementsByTagName("item")[3]; var edopt5 = questionXML.getElementsByTagName("item")[4]; var temp1 = edopt1.childNodes[0].nodeValue; var temp2 = edopt2.childNodes[0].nodeValue; var temp3 = edopt3.childNodes[0].nodeValue; var temp4 = edopt4.childNodes[0].nodeValue; var temp5 = edopt5.childNodes[0].nodeValue; } This is an example of our XML: <ed> <appid>Administrator</appid> <formid>ED009</formid> <question id="1"> <sentence id="1">[email protected]</sentence> <sentence id="2">[email protected]</sentence>
0

1

2

3

4
</question> <question id="2"> <sentence id="1">Beausdene 13</sentence> <sentence id="2">Beauscene 83</sentence>
0

1

2

3

4
</question> </ed> The error I receive intermittently is that "questionXML" is null or not an object. Specifically this line when I call on the submitAns1() method: questionXML = assessnode.getElementsByTagName("question")[edStage]; This solution works on FF, Opera, Chrome & Safari without any issues as far as I am aware. Am I accessing the XML nodes incorrectly? I've been toying with fixes for this bug for weeks now, I'd really appreciate any insight into what I'm doing wrong. On a side note, this is a personal project of mine - it's not university related - I'm much too old for that! Any help greatly appreciated. Regards, Sykth.

  • How does versioning work when using Boost Serialization for Derived Classes?

    - by Venkata Adusumilli
    When a Client serializes the following data: InternationalStudent student; student.id("Client ID"); student.firstName("Client First Name"); student.country("Client Country"); the Server receives the following: ID = "Client ID" Country = "Client First Name" instead of the following: ID = "Client ID" Country = "Client Country" The only difference between the Server and Client classes is the First Name of the Student. How can we make the Server ignore First Name recieved from the Client and process the Country? Server Side Classes class Student { public: Student(){} virtual ~Student(){} public: std::string id() { return idM; } void id(std::string id) { idM = id; } protected: friend class boost::serialization::access; protected: std::string idM; protected: template<class A> void serialize(A& archive, const unsigned int /*version*/) { archive & BOOST_SERIALIZATION_NVP(idM); } }; class InternationalStudent : public Student { public: InternationalStudent() {} ~InternationalStudent() {} public: std::string country() { return countryM; } void country(std::string country) { countryM = country; } protected: friend class boost::serialization::access; protected: std::string countryM; protected: template<class A> void serialize(A& archive, const unsigned int /*version*/) { archive & BOOST_SERIALIZATION_NVP(boost::serialization::base_object<Student>(*this)); archive & BOOST_SERIALIZATION_NVP(countryM); } }; Client Side Classes class Student { public: Student(){} virtual ~Student(){} public: std::string id() { return idM; } void id(std::string id) { idM = id; } std::string firstName() { return firstNameM; } void firstName(std::string name) { firstNameM = name; } protected: friend class boost::serialization::access; protected: std::string idM; std::string firstNameM; protected: template<class A> void serialize(A& archive, const unsigned int /*version*/) { archive & BOOST_SERIALIZATION_NVP(idM); if (version >=1) { archive & BOOST_SERIALIZATION_NVP(firstNameM); } } }; BOOST_CLASS_VERSION(Student, 1) class InternationalStudent : public Student { public: InternationalStudent() {} ~InternationalStudent() {} public: std::string country() { return countryM; } void country(std::string country) { countryM = country; } protected: friend class boost::serialization::access; protected: std::string countryM; protected: template<class A> void serialize(A& archive, const unsigned int /*version*/) { archive & BOOST_SERIALIZATION_NVP(boost::serialization::base_object<Student>(*this)); archive & BOOST_SERIALIZATION_NVP(countryM); } };
