• Postgresql 8.4 reading OID style BLOBs with Hibernate

  I am getting this weird case when querying Postgres 8.4 for some records with Blobs (of type OIDs) with Hibernate. The query does return all right but when my code wants to read the content of the BLOB with the simple code below, it gets 0 bytes back public static byte[] readBlob(Blob blob) throws Exception { InputStream is = null; try { is = blob.getBinaryStream(); return org.apache.commons.io.IOUtils.toByteArray(is); } finally { if (is != null) try { is.close(); } catch(Exception e) {} } } Funny think is that I am getting this behavior only since I've started adding more then one such records to the table. The underlying JDBC library is type 3 (postgresq 8.4-701). Can someone give me a hint as to how to solve this issue? Thanks Peter

• Tomcat Exception-Type Ignoring Specific Exception for More General

  For one type of exception, IOException, I want to display one page. For all other exceptions I have a default error page. In my web.xml I have things setup like this: java.io.IOException /queryException.jsp java.lang.Exception /error.jsp The problem is the error.jsp is the only page that ever shows, even if an IOException is thrown. The order the tags appear in doesn't matter; if I remove the java.lang.Exception tag though, I can get queryException to show for IOExceptions. What is the solution here? How can I keep a general error page for all exceptions EXCEPT for those with specific pages?

• How to "kill" background worker completely?

  Hi All, I am writing a windows application that runs a sequence of digital IO actions repeatedly. This sequence of actions starts when the user click a "START" button, and it is done by a background worker in backgroundWorker1_DoWork(). However, there are occasions when I get the "This backgroundworker is currently busy......." error message. I am thinking of implementing the following in the code, by using a while loop to "kill" the background worker before starting another sequence of action: if (backgroundWorker1.IsBusy == true) { backgroundWorker1.CancelAsync(); while (backgroundWorker1.IsBusy == true) { backgroundWorker1.CancelAsync(); } backgroundWorker1.Dispose(); } backgroundWorker1.RunWorkerAsync(); I think my main concern is, will the backgroundWorker1 be "killed" eventually? If it will, will it take a long time to complete it? Will this coding get me into an infinite loop?

  Anybody know of an IFilter that can index source code files beyond what the "Plain Text" filter can provide, with possibly a custom "Property Set" specific to programming? For example, I have 835MB in 41,000 files and 8,200 folders in my "Code Library" folder. I would like to perform searches such as "select distinct attributes on properties" or "select class exceptions" or "select classes with nested private classes". Preferrably, the IFilter can distinguish between various languages, so I can perform a query like "select class exceptions in VB.NET" or "select 'resume next' in VBScript". Other Examples "select all enum from folder('microsoft source code') in namespace 'system.io'"

  Hello, One way to increase scalability of the server application is to run IO-bound operation (reading files, sockets, web requests, database requests etc) asynchronously. This does not mean run then in the ThreadPool which will just block threads while operation is being executed. The correct way is to use asynchronous API (BeginRead, BeginGetResponse, BeginExecuteReader etc). The problem is well described in CLR vi C# book.   I've written a simple Java applet to generate a technical image based upon some data in a CSV file. I'm passing in the CSV file as a parameter to the applet: <applet code = "assaymap.AssayMapApplet" archive = "http://localhost/applet_test/AssayMap.jar" height="600px" width="800px"> <param name="csvFile" value="http://localhost/applet_test/test.csv"> </applet> As far as I understood applet security restrictions, an applet should be able to read data from the host they're on. These applets here http://www.jalview.org/examples/applets.html are using the same approach of passing in a text data file as a parameter. So I'm not sure why my own applet isn't working. The error message I get thrown is: Error with processing the CSV data. java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.io.FilePermission http:\localhost\applet_test\test.csv read)

• What's a good way to copy files from a PC to a Windows Mobile device?

  I have a C# application running on a server, and it needs to copy files out to multiple Windows Mobile 5.0 devices. These devices are connected to the network directly via Ethernet-enabled cradles (so they are not connected to a PC via ActiveSync). What different options do I have for doing this? I know RAPI can do this, but I'm not sure if it can copy something directly over the network like this. Also, I know RAPI uses ActiveSync DLLs and thus requires ActiveSync to be installed, and we would prefer to avoid doing this if possible. Is WMI a possibility? Can we use ordinary File.IO if we can somehow get the IP address of each device? Code samples or general knowledge would be most welcome.

  I would like to talk to a interactive bash process. Here is an example, so you know what I want to archieve: Program starts a new bash process. User types "ls" into my program. Program sends this command to the bash process. Program reads all available output of the bash (including the prompt) and displays it back to the user. GOTO 1 As you can guess, there is much room for nifty manipulations here and there... ;-) It would be wonderful if this also worked for subprocesses (started by the bash process) and curses-based programs. I would like to implement this functionality in Ruby, and already have experimented with IO.popen, but strange things happen. You are also welcome to do this in other languages.

  I've been messing around with T4 support in Mono and noticed a very cumbersome thing. The current directory when running T4 templates is the home directory. I need to be able to read a few files from the current project's directory but I'm at a loss for how to. <#@ template language="C#v3.5" #> <#@ output extension="txt" #> <#=System.IO.Directory.GetCurrentDirectory() #> yields /home/earlz where I want it to yield something like /home/earlz/MyProject How do I overcome this problem?   Is there a Pool class for worker threads, similar to the multiprocessing module's Pool class? I like for example the easy way to parallelize a map function def long_running_func(p): c_func_no_gil(p) p = multiprocessing.Pool(4) xs = p.map(long_running_func, range(100)) however I would like to do it without the overhead of creating new processes. I know about the GIL. However, in my usecase, the function will be an IO-bound C function for which the python wrapper will release the GIL before the actual function call. • problem using base64 encoder and InputStreamReader

  I have some CLOB columns in a database that I need to put Base64 encoded binary files in. These files can be large, so I need to stream them, I can't read the whole thing in at once. I'm using org.apache.commons.codec.binary.Base64InputStream to do the encoding, and I'm running into a problem. My code is essentially this FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream(file); Base64InputStream b64is = new Base64InputStream(fis, true, -1, null); InputStreamReader reader = new InputStreamReader(b64is); preparedStatement.setCharacterStream(1, reader); When I run the above code, I get one of these during the execution of the update java.io.IOException: Underlying input stream returned zero bytes, it is thrown deep in the InputStreamReader code. Why would this not work? It seems to me like the reader would attempt to read from the base 64 stream, which would read from the file stream, and everything should be happy.

• FileNotFound Exception when using TestDriven.NET and NUnit

  I'm Writing a simple pong game in C# and XNA 4.0 to learn unit testing. The tools used are TestDriven.NET and NUnit, all newest versions. The problem is, if I test the code with VS2010 internal debugger, everything runs fine, but when I use "Run Test(s)" from menu, the application chokes with error: Test 'WindowsGame1.Game1.TestGameMenu' failed: Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Content.ContentLoadException : Error loading "SpaceBackground". File not found. ----> System.IO.FileNotFoundException : Error loading "Content\SpaceBackground.xnb". File not found. (some more below...) So it stops when the first textre is going to be loaded. • Interrupt an Http Request blocked in read() on Android

  Using the Apache Http stack on Android, I'm trying to force a thread out of a call to read. This is what the stack looks like: OSNetworkSystem.receiveStreamImpl(FileDescriptor, byte[], int, int, int) line: not available [native method] OSNetworkSystem.receiveStream(FileDescriptor, byte[], int, int, int) line: 478 PlainSocketImpl.read(byte[], int, int) line: 565 SocketInputStream.read(byte[], int, int) line: 87 SocketInputBuffer(AbstractSessionInputBuffer).fillBuffer() line: 103 SocketInputBuffer(AbstractSessionInputBuffer).read(byte[], int, int) line: 134 IdentityInputStream.read(byte[], int, int) line: 86 EofSensorInputStream.read(byte[], int, int) line: 159 Fetcher.readStream() line: 89 I've tried InputStream.close(), Thread.Interrupt(), and HttpUriRequest.abort(), without any success. Any ideas? I'm also open to some kind of non-blocking IO, but I don't see any way to do that with the HttpUriRequest object. Thanks!
