  • Sorting a List based on an ArrayList within a custom Object

    I am using a list to keep track of a number of custom Row objects as follows: Public Rows As List(Of Row)() Row has 2 properties, Key (a String) and Cells (an ArrayList). I need to be able to sort each Row within Rows based on a developer defined index of the Cells ArrayList. So for example based on the following Rows Row1.Cells = ("b", "12") Row2.Cells = ("a", "23") Rows.Sort(0) would result in Row2 being first in the Rows list. What would be the best way of going about implementing this? Thanks

    Hi All, I'm trying to get a simple code working, unfortunatly im a python beginner. My script should return a list of files that doesn't match a pattern, more information here : http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2910106/python-grep-reverse-matching/2910288#2910288 My code is running but doesn't process the complete list of files found as it should : import sys,os filefilter = ['.xml','java','.jsp','lass'] path= "/home/patate/code/project" s = "helloworld" for path, subdirs, files in os.walk(path): for name in files: if name[-4:] in filefilter : f = str(os.path.join(path, name)) with open(f) as fp: if s in fp.read(): print "%s has the string" % f else: print "%s doesn't have the string" % f This code return : /home/patate/code/project/blabla/blabla/build.xml doesn't have the string None If i change f = str(os.path.join(path, name)) for print str(os.path.join(path, name)) I can see the whole list being printed.     It is supposed to be generally preferable to use a StringBuilder for String concatenation in Java. Is it always the case? What i mean is : Is the overhead of creating a StringBuilder object, calling the append() method and finally toString() smaller then concatenating existing Strings with + for 2 Strings already or is it only advisable for more Strings? If there is such a threshold, what does it depend on (the String length i suppose, but in which way)? And finally - would you trade the readability and conciseness of the + concatenation for the performance of the StringBuilder in smaller cases like 2, 3, 4 Strings?

  • Python check if object is in list of objects

    Hi, I have a list of objects in Python. I then have another list of objects. I want to go through the first list and see if any items appear in the second list. I thought I could simply do for item1 in list1: for item2 in list2: if item1 == item2: print "item %s in both lists" However this does not seem to work. Although if I do: if item1.title == item2.title: it works okay. I have more attributes than this though so don't really want to do 1 big if statement comparing all the attributes if I don't have to. Can anyone give me help or advise on what I can do to find the objects which appear in both lists. Thanks

    Hi! I've got a huge problem. I made a special ID for the things in our webpage. Let's see an example: H0059 - this is the special ID called registration number. The last two chars are the things' id. I'd like to cut off the useless characters, to get the real ID, what means strip the first char, and all the 0s before any other numbers. (Example: L0745 = 745, V1754 = 1754, L0003 = 3, B0141 = 141, P0040 = 40, V8000 = 8000) Please help me in this. I've tried with strreplace and explode but failed :( Thanks for the help.

    I've seen questions to prefix zeros here in SO. But not the other way !! Can you guys suggest me how to remove the leading zeros in alphanumeric text. Are there any built-in APIs or do I need to write a method to trim the leading zero's? Example: 01234 converts to 1234 0001234a converts to 1234a 001234-a converts to 1234-a 101234 remains as 101234 2509398 remains as 2509398 123z remains as 123z 000002829839 converts to 2829839

  • Best way to correct garbled data caused by false encoding

    Hi all, I have a set of data that contains garbled text fields because of encoding errors during many import/exports from one database to another. Most of the errors were caused by converting UTF-8 to ISO-8859-1. Strangely enough, the errors are not consistent: the word 'München' appears as 'München' in some place and as 'MÃœnchen'. Is there a trick in SQL server to correct this kind of crap? The first thing that I can think of is to exploit the COLLATE clause, so that ü is interpreted as ü, but I don't exactly know how. If it isn't possible to make it in the DB level, do you know any tool that helps for a bulk correction? (no manual find/replace tool, but a tool that guesses the garbled text somehow and correct them)

    I need to determine whether a string (sourceString) contains another string (queryString) and if it does, at what offset. I'm guessing that NSScanner might do the trick but I don't fully understand the documentation. Let's say sourceString = @"What's the weather in London today?" If I set queryString to equal @"What's the weather", I'd like a method that would determine that, in this case, YES (sourceString does contain queryString) and the offset is 0 (i.e. at the start of sourceString). Any suggestions?

  • Starting with an empty dataProvider for a <List>

    I'm using a List which I need to be empty at the start. I'm adding items to it as needed by clicking a button. Since it's empty, I haven't added a dataProvider property <s:List id="thelist" itemRenderer="listIR" /> To add an item, I'm adding it to the dataProvider directly thelist.dataProvider.addItem() but when I do that, it gives me this error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. Also I have a debugging Alert in the listIR itemRenderer itself and I see that when the list is created, I get that alert twice as if 2 itemRenderers were created, even though the list is supposed to be empty at the start. Any ideas what's wrong with this itemRenderer? How do I start with an empty dataProvider and add items smoothly to it?

    This is probably a very common question, but I was unable to find an answer myself; All my list elements call the function setQuery like this onClick="admin_stats.setQuery(this);" rather than [hardcode] add this to every list element, is there a way to simply have it run when a list element is clicked? I'm not very familiar with jQuery Live or binding/unbinding, but I think they would play a role here? Before I reinvent a rather square-looking wheel I thought I might ask =)

  • How do I build a python string from a raw (binary) ctype buffer?

    I'm playing with Python and ctypes and I can't figure out how to resolve this problem. I call to a C function which fills a raw binary data. My code looks like this: class Client(): def __init__(self): self.__BUFSIZE = 1024*1024 self.__buf = ctypes.create_string_buffer(self.__BUFSIZE) self.client = ctypes.cdll.LoadLibrary(r"I:\bin\client.dll") def do_something(self): len_written = self.client.fill_raw_buffer(self.__buf, self.__BUFSIZE) my_string = repr(self.__buf.value) print my_string The problem is that I'm receiving binary data (with 0x00) and it's truncated when I tried to build my_string. How can I build my_string if self._buf contains null bytes 0x00? Any idea is welcome. Thanks

This javascript function is a hintbox on mousehover.. and the string i am using is like this: Hemmed Finish: Every side/edge (1/2" to 2") of the banner are folded and glued (special vinyl solution) or heat pressed. This is the most common and best finish option. Stitched Finish: Every side/edge (1" to 2") of the banner are folded in the back and stitched/sewed with white thread. This is not a common option as thread can be seen on the banner. Now in the hintbox on mousehover the above given text has to be display as it is displayed above along with the paragraph break.. But when i pass the above as parameter in that function along with appending some backslashes to recognise some punctuation, iots till gives me javascript error of unterminated string...   • How to handle build rule with unknown targets in OMake when target list generator is built

    I have a project which uses OMake for its build system, and I am trying to handle a rather tough corner case. I have some definition files and a tool which can take these definition files and create GraphViz files. There are two problems, though: Each definition file can produce multiple graphs, and the list of graphs it can produce is encoded in the file. My dump tool does have a -list option which lists all the graphs a definition file will produce. This dump tool is built in the source tree. I want this list available in the OMakefile so I can use other rules to convert the DOT files to SVG, and have a phony target depend on all the SVGs (goal: a single build command which builds SVG descriptions of all my graphs). If I only had the first problem, it would be easy - I would run the tool to build a list, and then use that list to build a target which invokes the dumper to output the GraphViz files. However, I am rather stuck on forcing the dump tool to be built before it is needed. If this were make, I would just run make recursively to build the dump tool. OMake does not allow recursive invocation, however, and the build function is only usable from osh. Any suggestions for a good solution to this problem?

It seems that String.Replace() and Path.Combine() do not play well together. The code is below. I added this section: // The behavior of Path.Combine is weird. Note that _application.Client.TempDir is just _application.Client.BaseDir + @"\pending_install". While there are many ways to improve the code, I am mainly concerned with the part which has to do with String.Replace(...) and Path.Combine(,). I do not want to make changes outside of this function. I wish Path.Combine(,) took an optional bool flag, but it does not. So ... given my constraints, how can I rework this so that it starts to suck less?

I have been banging my head trying different string replaces but cant get it right, I would really appreciate some help. Cheers

  • manipulate variable made up of html before adding it to the dom (new in jQuery 1.4???)

    I thought I had seen this in the first announcement of jQuery 1.4, but can't seem to find anything now. I have a calendar table which is built dynamically from a json ajax response. The table is built in a variable called putHtml. Currently, once the table is added to the DOM, I run a showEvents function which takes each event and adds it to the appropriate cell in the table. Unfortunately, when I have 100 events, that means I am updating the DOM 100 seperate times. Which is getting rather slow. I use the showEvents function to add events dynamically, so it would be really nice if I could just use the same function, and specify to look in the DOM for the cell to add the event to, or look in the variable (assuming I've got it right, and you can actually do this with jQuery). The code I use currenlty is this jQuery('div#calendars').append('putHtml.join('')); for(var e in thisCal.events){ showEvent(thisCal.events[e]); } What I had attempted to do instead was for(var e in thisCal.events){ showEvent(thisCal.events[e],putHtml); } jQuery('div#calendars').append('putHtml.join('')); the showEvents function looks like this function showEvents(event){ var eventDate=event.date; var eventTime=event.time; var eventGroup=event.group; var eventName=event.name; var eventType=event.type; var whereEvent=jQuery('div.a'+eventDate, 'table.'+eventGroup); var putEvent='<div class="event" id="a+'eventDate+'_'+eventTime+'">'+eventName+'</div>' jQuery(whereEvent, 'div#calendar').append(putEvent); if(eventType2){ jQuery(whereEvent, 'div#listings').append(putEvent); } } when attempting to manipulate the variable putHtml before adding to the dom, I was passing putHtml into the showEvent function, so instead of '(whereEvent, 'div#calendar'), I had (whereEvent, putHtml), but that didn't work. of course, the other method to accomplish this would be that when I make each cell, I iterate over the events json, and apply the appropriate html to the cell at the time, but that means repetitively running over the entire json in order to get the event to put in the cell. Is there another/better way to do something like this?
