• How to pass an input value from a small form into a big form? (PHP, Javascript, URLs)

  I have a Wordpress website that needs to display a 3rd party newsletter signup form. This sign-up form has lots of fields and takes up its own full page. I want to display a simple "enter email address, hit submit" form at the top of every page. When the user hits submit, it should take them to the full form, where their email address is already pre-populated in the appropriate field. What's a good way to pass the input value from the short form to the long form? I'm inclined to use the URL somehow, but I've never approached it before. (My skills: expert XHTML/CSS. competent with WP theme hacking. comfortable enough with PHP and Javascript to move things around, but not enough to write them from scratch.) Thanks!

• Hide header and footer when printing from Internet Explorer using Javascript or CSS

  When I print a webpage from Internet Explorer it will automatically add a header and footer including the website title, URL, date, and page number. Is it possible to hide the header and footer programatically using Javascript or CSS? Requirements: works in IE 6 (no other browser support necessary as its for an Intranet) may use ActiveX, Java Applet, Javascript, CSS preferably not something that the user needs to install (eg. http://www.meadroid.com/scriptx). feel free to list other third party available plug-ins though as I think this may be the only option don't require the user to manually update their browser settings don't render the pages as PDF or Word document or any other format don't write to the registry (security prevents this) Thanks

• Logging ASMX Requests and Responses from Client

  Hi, I've got a C# web application which I can't easily update the code of. However, I can make configuration changes to the application. The application calls out to a third-party ASMX web service, and I really need (if at all possible) to log the full XML requests and responses. I have no control over the web service so I have to do it from the client. I'm not using WCF - this is standard ASMX web service calls. Is there any way I can log the XML requests and responses from the client web app without having to redeploy the code? Thanks in advance John

• Automating the Choose a digital certificate dialog

  I am using WatiN (2.0.10.928) with C# and Visual Studio 2008 to test a SSL secured website that requires a certificate. When you navigate to the homepage a "Choose a digital certificate" dialog is displayed and requires that you select a valid certificate and click the 'OK' button. I'm looking for a way to automate the certificate selection so that every time a new test or fixture is executed (and my browser restarts) I don't have to manually interfere with the automated test and select the certificate. I've tried using various WatiN Dialog Handler classes and even looked into using the Win32 API to automate this but haven't had much luck. I finally found a solution but its adds another dependency to the solution (a third party library called AutoIT). Since this solution isn't ideal but does work and is the best I could find, I will post the solution and mark it as the answer but I am still looking for an 'out of the box' WatiN solution that is more consistent with the rest of my code and test fixtures.   We are integrating a third party SOAP web services in our application. The WSDL is used with SOAPUI tool, where sample requests and responses worked fine. When we try to integrate with apache Axis 1.3, where we tried WSDL2JAVA with the WSDL. • How to combine library with my jar?

  Ok so i wrote a program that makes use of a 3rd party open source library and i want to package it with my program in a single jar. I'm using netbeans 6.8 and everything I've tried java always spit back the error: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: libraryname; off topic:also i would like to know how to make an executable-jar(exe) through netbeans if it is possible. (ive seen programs that were written in java but were an .exe) EDIT discovered a plugin for eclipse called FatJar which can do what i want, but i cant find something similar for netbeans, is there such thing?

• How do you get credentials (NetworkCredential) of currently logged in user ?

  Hi, I'm writing some code to utilise a 3rd party component, and I need to supply an object which implements ICredentials when I start to use it. If I write the following... var credential = new NetworkCredential("MyUsername", "MyPassword"); ...and pass "credential", it's fine. But I would like to pass the credentials of the current user (it's a Windows service, so runs as a specified user). I have tried both of the following, but neither appear to work (or return anything): NetworkCredential credential = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials; NetworkCredential credential = CredentialCache.DefaultNetworkCredentials; Can anyone suggest how to acquire an approriate object, which represents the credentials of the username that the service is running under ? • Reverse Engineering Custom Data File

  At my place of work we have a legacy document management system that is now unsupported by the developers due to variours reasons, i have been asked to look into extracting the documents contained in this system to eventually be imported into a new 3rd party system. From various tracing and process monitoring I have determined that the document images (mainly tiff files) are stored in a number of 1.5gb files, these files seem to be read from a speficic offset and then written to a tmp file that is then served via a web app to the client and then deleted. I guess i am looking for suggestions as how I can inspect these large files that containn the tiff images and eventually extract and write them to individual files.

  Hi, I am just wondering from a webservice provider point of view what is the benefit of asking users to create an account or login using 3rd party web service provider e.g: Twitter or facebook. Wouldn't it be easier to ask the user to provide their twitter or facebook login and use that to pull the user's twitter or facebook data. I can understand the benefit of using From user point of view using OAuth provide security. It is safer to use OAuth than giving some one the internet our twitter or facebook login credential. • Is there anything RAD comparable to VCL?

  After years in embedded programming, I have to develop a Windows app. I dug out my old C++ Builder and Delphi. These are great and the latest version costs over $1k, so I won't be going there. What I prarticularly like is the VCL (visual component library) which let's me code my own components and share them with others, plus the thousands of existing 3rd party components. I noticed that there is now also a RAD PHP from Borland too. I realzie that MSVC, QT, NetBeans, etc are good enough IDEs for RAD, BUT does anything offer the ease of the Borland products for developing additional components - and does anything else have thousands to choose from? PC based? Cross-platform is good. Browser based? Free is always good ;-) I don't particularly care about the programming language.

• Batch file script to remove special characters from filenames (Windows)

  I have a large set of files, some of which contain special characters in the filename (e.g. ä,ö,%, and others). I'd like a script file to iterate over these files and rename them removing the special characters. I don't really mind what it does, but it could replace them with underscores for example e.g. Störung%20.doc would be renamed to St_rung_20.doc In order of preference: A DOS batch file A Windows script file to run with cscript (vbs) A third party piece of software that can be run from the command-line (i.e. no user interaction required) Another language script file, for which I'd have to install an additional script engine Background: I'm trying to encrypt these file with GnuPG on Windows but it doesn't seem to handle special characters in filenames with the --encrypt-files option.

  Context I am storing a java.util.List inside ehcache. Key(String) --> List<UserDetail> The ordered List contains a Top 10 ranking of my most active users. Problem Concurrent 3rd party clients might be requesting for this list. I have a requirement to be as current as possible with regards to the ranking. Thus if the ranking is changed due the activities of users, the ordered List in the cache must not be left stale for very long. Once I've recalculated a new List, I want to replace the one in cache immediately. Consider a busy scenario whereby multiple concurrent clients are requesting for the ranking; how can I replace the cache item in an fashion such that: Clients can continue to pull a possibly stale snapshot. They should never get a null value. There will only be 1 server thread that writes to the cache.

• C++ STL library in XCode - memset not defined in this scope

  I am trying to create a STL based C++ library in XCode with a bunch of C++ files that I have. Basically my end output should be a shared library (dylib) that can be consumed by a Objective-C application. When trying to compile, I get the following error.. 'memset' was not declared in scope. Since my codebase uses a lot of external 3rd party codebases, I thought i'll include or to resolve this, but I tried both and even that didn't work. Does it have something to do with the SDK? Am currently running 10.5 with GCC 4.2 Need help with setting up the Target properly. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

• Storing file permissions in Subversion repository

  How do you store file permissions in a repository? A few files need to be read-only to stop a third party program from trashing it but after checking out of the repository they are set to read-write. I looked on google and found a blog post from 2005 that states that Subversion doesn't store file-permissions. There are patches and hook-scripts listed (only one url still exists). Three years later does Subversion still not store file permissions and are hooks the only way to go about this? (I've never done hooks and rather use something that is native to Subversion.)

• VB6 App + .Net component working as compiled app but not in VB6 IDE

  I have a VB6 App that uses a .Net component (via a .tlb reference in the VB6 app) which is working fine when executed as a compiled app, but it produces an error from the VB6 IDE a certain point when it is trying to use the .NET component. I should note that the error occurs when the .NET component is meant to be invoking a third party reporting component. What could the problem be? Could the VB6 IDE be looking in a different location for certain DLLs? The .tlb is in the same location as the application executable so I don't why there should be a problem. I need to have the application running in the IDE in order to debug and step through the code.

  My web service is receiving xml from a third party that looks like this: <SOAP-ENV:Envelope xmlns:SOAP-ENV="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/"> <SOAP-ENV:Body> &lt;Foo&gt;bar&lt;/Foo&gt; </SOAP-ENV:Body> </SOAP-ENV:Envelope> My jaxws web service rejects this with a parsing error. Also if I try to validate this xml using soapui it says Body with element-only content type cannot have text element. My question is, is that xml valid? Or is the client supposed to send me something without escaping the < and . Any references to xml standards or rules are appreciated.

  TelephonyManager.getNetworkType() returns one of the constant values. It appears that the constant values have an integer order, by possible bearer link speed. I know using constant values used in the following manner is generally bad, however could one use this to determine a basic cutoff for application functionality and have it work between API levels?   I have an OpenID relying party setup and using XRDS. It passes the "RP has discoverable return_to" interop test over at http://test-id.org/RP/DiscoverableReturnTo.aspx. Yahoo no longer complains with the message "Warning: This website has not confirmed its identity with Yahoo! and might be fraudulent." as outlined in Andrew Arnott's excellent blog post: http://blog.nerdbank.net/2008/06/why-yahoo-says-your-openid-site.html However, when I try to authenticate using AOL I see the "Warning! site verification could not be completed." message.

  I use 3rd party COM to find faces in a picture. One of the methods has the following signature, from SDK: long FindMultipleFaces( IUnknown* pIDibImage, VARIANTARG* FacePositionArray ); Parameters: pIDibImage[in] - The image to search. FacePositionArray[out]- The array of FacePosition2 objects into which face information is placed. This array is in a safe array (VARIANT) of type VT_UNKNOWN. The size of the array dictates the maximum number of faces for which to search. which translates into the following C# method signature (from metadata): int FindMultipleFaces(object pIDibImage, ref object pIFacePositions); Being optimistic I call it the following way but get an exception that the memory is corrupt. The exception is thrown only when a face is present in the image. FacePosition2[] facePositions = new FacePosition2[10]; object positions = facePositions; int faceCount = FaceLocator.FindMultipleFaces(dibImage, ref positions); What's the right way to pass SAFEARRAY to unmanaged code?

• Easiest way to generate P/Invoke code?

  I am an experienced .Net programer, but have not compiled a C/C++ program in my life. Now I have this C-dll, headers and documentation (3rd party, not from Win API), from which I need to call about ten methods. I was thinking of using Platform Invoke. I found these three tools that would create the code for me: PInvoker: http://www.pinvoker.com P/Invoke Interop Assistant: http://www.codeplex.com/clrinterop P/Invoke Wizard: http://www.paulyao.com/res/pinvoke/pinvoke.aspx and possibly Swig: http://www.swig.org/ Pinvoker seems to have a bit different approach than the Interop assistant and the Wizard. Swig I just found when checking that this question has not been asked here. What are the pros and cons of these tools? What would be the best = easiest and safest way for me to produce the P/Invoke code given that I don't know much about C/C++?

• ffdshow codec can not work with media play 12 in windows 7 ?

  The reason of this issue is caused by media player 12 (in windows 7 professional) using mircsoft default codec which don't support mp4 decode. The ffdshow codec can not replace microsoft default codec in windows 7 (windows7 does not allow that in default). I find some third party tools can switch media player default codec to ffdshow but this is really inconvenience for our customer. Is there any way I can make a program to switch microsoft default codec to ffdshow codec? Like change some entries in windows registry?

  Hi, I am looking for a solution for this scenario - I need to implement a feature to allow user to add various controls to canvas(WPF, custom and third party ) and then select any one of them and modify some properties in property grid(changes needs to be reflected in UI). I don't want to expose all the properties of any control only some of them(relevant to end user); apart from this there are some properties which will be common for all controls e.g. Title, Value(Value will be bound to some property of a control, say Text of TextBox and Content of Label) etc. I am thinking of putting all the common proeprties at one place. Things I am confused aout - How to create such base class, whether to use UserControl or Custom Control for this? How will the binding work between Control, base class proeprties and PropertyGrid? What type of object will I expose to property grid? Any idea on what approch should be followed in this case, any kind of input will really be helpful.

• Find out if assembly is signed with Authenticode

  I use an assembly of a 3rd party vendor. In an older version this assembly used authenticode. This caused the assembly loading to last quiet long. The developer of the vendor told me that the new version is not signed with authenticode. How can I check if this is true. On my development machine the assembly loading was quiet fast. Only on client machines it took quiet a while. Is it possible to check this using a network sniffer? Regards
