  • Does a transaction stop all race condition problems in MySQL?

    - by nickf
Consider this situation: Begin transaction Insert 20 records into a table with an auto_increment key Get the first insert id (let's say it's 153) Update all records in that table where id >= 153 Commit Is step 4 safe? That is, if another request comes in almost precisely at the same time, and inserts another 20 records after step 2 above, but before step 4, will there be a race condition?

  • What is Sharepoint? What are its main advantages for programmer?

    - by netmajor
Hey, For some time I’ve seen employers demanding Sharepoint knowledge from programmers, but I have a problem understanding what it is :/ But today I was at IT training, and the main guy said something like: “Sharepoint is platform for commit code for programmer, control of version etc...” Is that true? It sounds like SVN. Can someone explain me what advantages it has for a C# programmer? Thanks ;)

  • TortoiseSVN : Good 'patch file' viewer ?

    - by mishal153
Hi, The default patch file viewer is messy (ie. no side by side diff view etc). I tried setting the path of beyondCompare exe in "Settings-Unified Diff Viewer-custom", but beyond compare also behaves same as default diff tool. Is there a way to atleast allow side by side diff in patch files ? If so, what is the method ? My aim is to allow emailing of changes so that they can be reviewed before I commit them :) Mishal

  • How to search through all commits in the repository?

    - by Josip
I have a git repository with few branches and dangling commits. I would like to search all such commits in repository for a specific string. I know how to get a log of all commits in history, but these don't include branches or dangling blobs, just HEAD's history. I want to get them all, to find a specific commit that got misplaced. I would also like to know how to do this in mercurial, as I'm considering the switch.

  • GitHub Api: How to get Root :tree_sha of a repository?

    - by Chris Jacob
How do I get the Root :tree_sha of a GitHub repository via the GitHub API? The GitHib API help pages don't seem to explain this critical piece of information: http://develop.github.com/p/object.html Can get the contents of a tree by tree SHA tree/show/:user/:repo/:tree_sha To get a listing of the root tree for the facebox project from our commit listing, we can call this: $ curl http://github.com/api/v2/yaml/tree/show/defunkt/facebox/a47803c9ba26213ff194f042ab686a7749b17476

  • How to detect a pending JDO transaction?

    - by Stevko
I believe I am getting JDO commit Exceptions due to the transactions nesting although I'm not sure. Will this detect the situation where I am starting a transaction when another is pending? PersistenceManager pm = PersistenceManagerFactory.get().getPersistenceManager(); assert pm.currentTransaction().isActive() == false : "arrrgh"; pm.currentTransaction().begin(); Is there a better or more reliable way?

  • SVN syncing fails with ZendStudio

Hi. When I try to sync with my SVN (I'm using unfuddle) through ZendStudio I get the following error: Some of selected resources were not committed. svn: Commit failed (details follow): svn: MKACTIVITY request failed on '/svn/test1234_a/!svn/act/58ae0e6d-2301-0010-8300-cb465553b788' svn: MKACTIVITY of '/svn/test1234_a/!svn/act/58ae0e6d-2301-0010-8300-cb465553b788': 400 Bad Request (http://test1234.unfuddle.com) I think this is some type of proxy error, but how can I fix this (using ZendStudio). Thanks.

  • Git dirctet acyclic graph - children know their parents but not the other way around

    - by dayscott
Git is implemented as a directed acyclic graph. Children know their parents but not the other way round. This makes sense because i can reach every commit only through a branch or a tag ( generally speaking through a reference). That's how i traverse the tree. What other reasons had the developers of Git to make "the children know their parents but not the other way around"?/ What are the key benefits of this?

  • How can "set timestamp" be a slow query?

    - by Peder
My slow query log is full of entries like the following # Query_time: 1.016361 Lock_time: 0.000000 Rows_sent: 0 Rows_examined: 0 SET timestamp=1273826821; COMMIT; I guess the set timestamp command is issued by replication but I don't understand how set timestamp can take over a second. Any ideas?

  • Frustrations about which language to use [closed]

    - by Joshua
I am way too indecisive. I have an idea for a (admittedly craptastic) GUI program, so I start writing it in C# .NET WinForms. Then like halfway through I'm like, damn I should have written this in Qt. So I start writing it in Qt and remember why I hate C++ STL iterators so much. So in my head I go LINQ C++ STL So I'm like, maybe I'll do it in WPF, I like markup to make UIs hey this is kinda like web development (read: ez pz) BUT ITS LIKE WHY GOD WHY CANT I JUST PICK ONE AND COMMIT

  • When does post-update get called (GIT)

    - by Michael
My git setup was working beautifully, then stopped cooperating today. Right now, I can git-pull, git commit just fine from my local machine. When I git push, the push goes through, but the server files don't actually get updated. Now I wonder, is my post-update file even getting called anymore? I've checked the permissions, and they are all group +x, and I'm a part of the group... any other suggestions?

  • Partial push in mercurial

    - by Chris089
I want to move a part, i.e. one subdirectory of an existing, private mercurial repository to a new, public repository on bitbucket. Is it possible to do this including the changesets or do I have to manually copy the directory to the new repository and commit it there (and lose the version history on the way)?

  • What's wrong with Bundler working with RubyGems to push a Git repo to Heroku?

    - by stanigator
I've made sure that all the files are in the root of the repository as recommended in this discussion. However, as I follow the instructions in this section of the book, I can't get through the section without the problems. What do you think is happening with my system that's causing the error?
