PS it seems like something else apart from apparmor is affecting permissions to access mysql files after i changed data directory to more default one - /var/lib/mysql and "Can't create test file" error is gone, but "'/var/mysql/bin/bin-log.index' not found (Errcode: 13)" is still there PPS so i installed apparmor back and added all folders to mysqld's profile and errors mentioned above are now gone(or mysql doesn't even get to that point now) what i have now is this: /usr/sbin/mysqld: error while loading shared libraries: libpthread.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory banging my head against the wall.

• Huawei b260a gsm modem not forwarding gre for pptp tunnel

  I have a huawei gsm modem that does not want to let gre through. The goal is to connect into a pptp server thats behind the huawei. In the modems port forwarding settings theres a ready made profile for pptp (1723). After activating that the MS pptp test tools show that connection is being initiated but no gre packets make it to the server. After taking a closer look into the modems iptables rules theres nothing in there about gre. So I tried making gre rules manualy into forward and preroute chains without any success what so ever. As far as I can tell theres no ip_gre module present on the device is that needed for gre forwarding? Thats what I'm afraid of that it doesn't support gre in NAT but how would I turn it into a bridge? The wan interface is ppp0 so bridging it with eth0 would not work right? Is there some iptables rule I could use to make the modem let all the traffic just straight through?

  For some reason pecl_http extension is not showing up in my test.php file with contains: <?php phpinfo(); ?> I just installed pecl_http using: pecl install pecl_http The install was successful and I verified it by running: pecl list Installed packages, channel pecl.php.net: ========================================= Package Version State mongo 1.2.10 stable pecl_http 1.7.4 stable I then located my php.ini file using: php -i | grep 'Configuration File' Configuration File (php.ini) Path => /etc/php5/cli Loaded Configuration File => /etc/php5/cli/php.ini I edited it in vim and added: extension=http.so Finally I restarted Nginx and PHP-FastCGI: /etc/init.d/nginx restart /etc/init.d/php-fastcgi stop /etc/init.d/php-fastcgi start My PHP extension_dir is : /usr/lib/php5/20090626 I verified that "http.so" is located in that directory. Any ideas why it's not loading? My machine is running a Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 64bit Profile on Linode. The only other extensions I have installed are New Relic and Mongo. Thanks!

• Windows pysical server provisioning question with HPSA 7.8

  I have a physical server that I am trying to provision Windows to. At 58% of the way through copying files form the Core to the target server, the process hangs with either a samba time-out or an error indicating that %path%\system32\ntoskrnl.exe is missing or corrupt. I can build a VM on the same subnet with the same media (merely a different profile to catch the different unattend.txt file) with no issues. I can also provision RHEL5 to this server with no issues. The buildmgr logs indicate that eventually the job is timing-out. Samba logs show that connections are made, and then eventually closed - about the time that the build process times-out. Any ideas on where to look next?

• What changes can be made to a Microsoft Account using net user on Windows 8?

  In Windows 8, you can log on with a local account or with a Microsoft Account. Both types show up in the Users control panel, but there are different options that you can change for each type. An administrator can change basically any aspect of a local user - name, password, access level, etc. For a Microsoft Account, you can only change the access level (admin/standard) or remove the account. From the command line though, there don't appear to be any restrictions on what you can do a Microsoft Account. Using the net user tool or the Local Users and Groups MMC snap-in, it looks like an administrator would be able to change the password, display name, profile path, etc. of Microsoft Accounts (as well as local accounts of course). Will these commands actually work when applied to a Microsoft Account? Will using them in some way break the link to the Microsoft Account, or will nothing happen at all? I'm hesitant to test since I don't want to mess up my account permanently.

• After restart desktop totally black, taskbar visible, can't click items in Windows Explorer

  Situation: Windows Vista, latest updates. After restarting to complete an installation, I find myself looking at a totally black windows desktop without any icons. The start menu and taskbar, including quickstart icons, appears. Some, but not all task bar tray icons appear. The systems seems stable. When I open Windows Explorer and click "desktop" in the folder treeview, the cursor immediately jumps back to the previously selected item. No error. Same when clicking on my user's profile or my documents. When I try "save as" in, say, Notepad, nothing happens, the dialog box (which defaults to "my documents") doesn't even show. Again, no error. Nothing serious afaict in the event log. Typing something in Start Search shows "Search failed to initialize". Most programs, including Internet Explorer, Firefox etc work as expected. Anybody ever encountered such abomination?

• Xcopy /exclude does not exclude some of the specified criteria

  Good afternoon. I want xcopy to copy all files meeting a certain criteria located in the C drive to a specific folder, except ones located in the directories specified in excl.txt. The exclusions only work partially - the files located in %systemroot%, %programfiles% and in each profile's appdata are still copied, even though those directories are listed in excl.txt. How do I make xcopy skip those directories, preferentially still using environment vars to specify the paths? My current syntax is: xcopy /s /c /d /h /i /r /y /g /f /EXCLUDE:excl.txt %systemdrive%\*.doc f:\test\ excl.txt currently contains the following: \%temp%\ \%userprofile%\appdata \%programfiles%\ \%programfiles(x86)%\ \%systemroot%\ \%programdata%\ appdata windows %programfiles% Thank you very much.

  I have an Old Dell Optiplex 755 SFF with an Intel Core 2 Processor (windows 7). Now This can hold a PCI-E x16 port. Now I got an ATI Radeon HD 5450 low profile. I plugged and played and it fits without a hitch, the software installed too! , now for the graphics well... It doesn't really work at all as it seems to freeze at the moment that it loads on the windows logo. It loads into safe mode so I'm not really sure what the problem is. Any ideas, I read the dell forums and they should be somewhat compatible... with the specs so I'm at a loss here. and I am a novice here. Ideas? Edit I have tried to reset the cmos,no luck there. I have tried to move the ram as well. nothing big happened.

  I'm wondering if anyone knows of a product like this but that is physically mountable internally rather than on a cable? I'm planning on building a super low profile "gateway" pc that is dedicated to handling internet traffic in my home. I have a great 1U rackmountable chassis for an ITX motherboard, but I need the hard drive real estate for the additional NIC required to run a gateway (one onboard and one PCI). So the plan is to use a small 8GB USB Jump Drive for the OS inside the box (as to not have one hanging out the back. And although it's racked, I still don't want the jump drive flopping around internally, so I want it fixed somehow. I have an alternative idea where by I use a flush mount zap strap saddle and a zip tie to hold it in place, but that seems kind of like a hack.

• iChat can't authenticate to Lion Server 10.7.2 [migrated]

  I've enabled iChat and iCal Server through our local 10.7.2 Server which has DNS set up correctly. I can add the server account via a client's System Preferences (under other - Mac OS X server) and it authenticates with my shortname correctly. However, when I load iChat, I get this error message: Where the account is [email protected]. The password and username is correct. Console throws this error: 22/11/11 3:03:31.135 PM imagent: [Warning] XMPPConnection: Error: Error Domain=XMPPErrorDomain Code=105 "The operation couldn?t be completed. (XMPPErrorDomain error 105.)" UserInfo=0x7f81bbe2a3e0 {XMPPErrorText=service requested for unknown domain} DNS is set up correctly (it's working for Profile Management, Software Update Server and Web Services) but I can't get iChat to work correctly. How can I get clients to authenticate? FYI: It's probably worth noting that I get the exact same error messages when I use [email protected] instead of [email protected].   I have a problem with a slightly customised Debian image that I'm trying to do some headless work on. The problem is that the installed locales list has been reduced to this: C en_GB en_GB.iso88591 en_GB.iso885915 en_GB.utf8 POSIX However, when I log in as root (with an otherwise as-vanilla profile), I find this: ~# set | grep LC_ LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 That's the only LC_ environment variable set, and presumably that means that it's being explicitly set somewhere (and given that /etc/default/locale only contains LANG=en_GB, I can't see any other alternative). However, I can't see where it is being set, and the fact that it's wrong is preventing, for example, postgresql-8.4 from installing. I know I can do an LC_CTYPE=en_GB apt-get install postgresql-8.4 to work around this, but I'd really like to understand where this setting comes from, and I really dislike the idea of installing an otherwise-unnecessary locale to make this go away. So: where does this LC_CTYPE setting come from, and how do I make it go away?

When I try to perform the installation say that cannot find the JDK; since the JDK is already installed by default in mac, the problem is export the java home. I´ve try a lot and I cant do it! I know that I have to add a line in a .bashrc file (or .profile, or .bash_profile) I´ve created all those files, at different times but nothing... I´m a new mac user, but I use Linux too and I dont know what happened, I just need to export java home to perform my work... and is really necessary for me to add environment variables too. • How can I monitor network traffic in an all Mac home network?

  I have an all Mac network consisting of an Airport Extreme, 1 MacPro, 1 Mac Mini, 2 MackBook Pros, 2 iPads, and 2 iPhones. The Mac Pro is connected directly to the Airport Extreme via Cat5 and the rest is all running via Wireless. Lately I've been getting prompted by Google to enter Capchas frequently. The message states that I might have software running on my network I'm not aware of. My wireless router is password protected using WPA2 Personal and I frequently change my password so I don't think someone is using the network from outside (but I've no way to confirm this). I'm looking for a relatively cheap (preferably open source) solution that would enable me to monitor and profile the network usage by machine and port. Can someone recommend a solution?

• How to restore a previous firefox session?

  FF 3.5.4 on Ubuntu 9.10. I have (of course) session saving (the built-in one) enabled. I closed the main FF window, but the "Downloads" window was still open. And on reopen, it had forgotten about the previous tabs. This is annoying is hell, and yes, I should report (or check for) a bug. If I could stomach bugzilla, that is. :P I have the sessionstore.js file with this older session (scanning it with less showed many of the sites I know had been open). How do I get FF to use this session file? I did try to remove sessionstore.* and copy the sessionstore.js (or .bak) to the profile folder. But that doesn't have any effect. EDIT: rewritten, to make it as obvious as it can be. I wasn't expecting people to jump to the "this guy's a stupid git" quite so easily.

  When I am using my laptop, I continually adjust the screen's brightness based on the lighting conditions in the room (e.g. how much light is coming in from windows, etc.). But if I unplug the laptop or plug it back in, Windows looks at the default brightness setting in the power profile for "on battery" or "plugged in" and changes the brightness accordingly. This is a jarring experience and then I have to hunt down the ideal brightness for my current situation again, rather than getting on with my work. I would like to make it so that plugging or unplugging the battery is not a trigger that adjusts the screen brightness at all. The screen brightness should only change when I adjust it myself. Does anybody know how this might be accomplished?

• 5v PCI to PCI-X or PCIe adapter?

  We unfortunately have a very expensive ($10K) full-length 5 volt PCI card that we would like to use in the same system as another expensive PCI-X card. As luck would have it, it seems that PCI-X is not backwards compatible with 5v PCI cards. It would be a real shame to have to order a whole new server just to accommodate these two cards together. Does there exist any internal converter/adapter that will allow one to place a full-length 5v PCI card into either a PCI-X or PCIe slot? I've found an external expansion box that suits our needs but it's 1) External and 2) $1100. The only internal adapters I've been able to find go from Low-profile PCI - PCIe; nothing that seems to support full-height, full-length PCI cards.

• Windows Remote-App Server 2012 Office 2013 User Settings not saved

  I have a Windows Server 2012 with RemoteApps enabled. It's running the latest Patches etc. It has Office 2013 installed and Excel and Word are shared to all users. Now I got the Problem that after each Reboot all User Settings are lost. I have a few users who pin previously opened Documents so they dont need to remember all Paths and those are all gone after Reboot. Also last opened Documents is empty and after a Server reboot it brings the office 2013 Window for First time setup where it asks if you want to connect to skydrive and all that. In the RemoteApps Collection I enabled a Userprofile-Drive 100GB drive E: for Storing User profile data. There is a Domain of course and there is no GPO Preventing the user from Storing settings etc. We also got an older Terminal Server 2003 in the same Domain where this is not happening. Any ideas why this is happening that all the Settings are lost after Reboot?

• Why does a group policy not applied to the domain administrator account?

  I have a working policy on my entire domain. I just found out, when logging with the domain administrator, that this policy is not applied (EDIT: Running : gpresult shows that the GPO's are applied - but, this GPO is for Drive Mappings, and the actual drive mappings are NOT shown) The administrator account - does not have any login script on his profile tab. My GPO's are mainly small/atomic settings: single GPO to handle each settings: UAC, Firewall, printers. GPO status for the object is enabled That's an overview of the Drive Maps: Reading on MS support site, I checked the delegation tab, and it is marked as applied to domain and enterprise admins. Every user gets these policies correctly. The OU that is set is the root of the domain. (for testing purpose - I did that to eliminate hierarchy issues - did not help) Block Inheritance is disabled. • Python installation in OSX not updating

  I've recently got into Python programming and so downloaded the latest version (3.2.3) to install on my Mac running Snow Leopard. I used the installer package. I have run the shell profile update script, but Terminal is still using 2.6.1 to run my programs. I have tried changing the paths with sudo nano as per this post but it makes no difference - it still uses 2.6.1 Any ideas, oh mighty Super Users? I am a complete noob when it comes to Terminal commands.

• Why does bash invocation differ on AIX when using telnet vs ssh

  I am using an AIX 5.3 server with a .bashrc file set up to echo "Executing bashrc." When I log in to the server using ssh and run: bash -c ls I get: Executing bashrc . .. etc.... However, when I log in with telnet as the same user and run the same command I get: . .. etc.... Clearly in the telnet case, the .bashrc was not invoked. As near as I can tell this is the correct behaviour given that the shell is non-interactive in both cases (it is invoked with -c). However, the ssh case seems to be invoking the shell as interactive. It does not appear to be invoking the .profile, so it is not creating a login shell. I cannot see anything obviously different between the environments in the two cases. What could be causing the difference in bash behaviour?
