  Everywhere I read says that messages handled by the service broker are processed in the order that they arrive, and yet if you create a table, message type, contract, service etc , and on activation have a stored proc that waits for 2 seconds and inserts the msg into a table, set the max queue readers to 5 or 10, and send 20 odd messages I can see in the table that they are inserted out of order even though when I insert them into the queue and look at the contents of the queue I can see that the messages are all in the right order. Is it due to the delay waitfor waiting for the nearest second and each thread having different subsecond times and then fighting for a lock or something? • WCF:recommended naming conventions for same method with different signatures?

  Hi there, been creating a few wcf methods and i have a mehtod called IsValidLogin ... there various versions, 1 takes 2 strings, 1 takes an object etc. Of course in WCF you can't overload methods can anyone suggest the best way to name these methods.. • Does WCF use the ThreadPool to bring up new instances for a PerCall service?

  Hi, for a PerCall WCF service whose throttling has been set to be high (say, 200 max concurrent calls) would WCF bring up a new instance and invoke the request on a threadpool thread? If it does, then does this have an impact on the total number of concurrent calls allowed? I ask because I don't seem to ever hit the max number of concurrent calls I've set in the service throttling config but instead a fraction of that number - up to 50 on a 100 MaxConcurrentCalls setting and 160 on a 200 MaxConcurrentCalls setting. Are attributes the only way to explicitly declare data contracts in wcf? I know about the auto data contract functionality in 3.5, but the books I'm readin discourage that. And besides, that way assumes all state is publically available, which is oftentimes not the case.

Could someone show me how to properly structure the "SelectMany" call? Thank you for any help.

  I have written a net.tcp based service in Biztalk 2006 R2 and it listens at a location, http://localhost:5060/WCFTcpService I need to call this service by using Raw TCP request. i.e. I don't want to create a proxy class and consume it in a .NET client application. How can I be able to do this? The real scenario is that an Oracle Stored procedure will be used to communicate with this service and the only way I am allowed to call this service is to send a TCP request to the Biztalk server that is hosting the service.   My service returns an byte array, which I have to convert to an 'animated gif' (using imagetools since silverlight doesn't support it yet) I was wondering, is it possible to insert some code at the client, where I can do the conversion before the actual object is returned to whatever it is binded against? On the server side, the queries can be customized before it is sent over the wire. I'm asking for the exact opposite, can I do some on the fly conversions the moment they get of the wire and before they are returned to the controls. If I'm overthinking this and there is a smarter/better/easier way to do it, I'm all for such an answer as well

• Methods in the namespace System.Security.Cryptography take 2 minutes to perform when service is hosted in IIS

  I built an ASP.NET web-service that uses the System.Security.Cryptography namespace when it handles its requests. When I hosted the service in ASP.NET Development Server, everything worked fine. Then I moved the service into IIS, still using localhost addresses, and surprisingly, each time the service calls a method from the specified namespace, it takes 2 minutes to complete! If a single request requires the service to call 3 methods of the specified namespace, then the request takes total of 6 minutes to complete! The traces show that the request has been received on time, and they show an interval of around 2 minutes upon each call to the specified namespace. Did anyone see this strange behavior elsewhere? Any speculation would be appreciated!

  I'm just starting to setup DPM 2010 in a test environment with a Domain Controller and a File Server. Everything seem to be working fairly well and I can get all of my backup jobs to succeed except for the "Computer\System Protection" backups. Both servers are running fully up to date 64 bit Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise with Service Pack 1. The error that is being provided is: DPM cannot create a backup because Windows Server Backup (WSB) on the protected computer encountered an error (WSB Event ID: 517, WSB Error Code: 0x8078001D). (ID 30229 Details: Internal error code: 0x809909FB) This Microsoft Knowledge Base article describes the issue perfectly and provides a hotfix. I downloaded the hotfix, moved it onto the affected server, attempt to run it and receive the following error: The update is not applicable to your computer. I've verified that I have indeed downloaded the 64 bit version. According to this thread the hotfix got rolled into Service Pack 1, yet I'm still experiencing the issue. Both machines do have the Windows Server Backup feature installed. Can anybody point me in the right direction? What am I missing?

These service accounts are simple to configure and use but are typically shared among multiple applications and services and cannot be managed on a domain level. • Recovered folders from Camera show as JPEG files and can can't be viewed.

  I have recovered a CCTV camera hard disk after a crash and have managed to get most of the data using EasyRecovery Pro. The problem is now that all the data that I have recovered appear like File09.JPG with and image icon in windows XP, but the files can't be viewed in any JPEG viewer software. I suspect that the .JPG files are indeed folders, but I can't force windows XP the change the file type. Very Odd. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Hoo

So, I made two quick video tutorials to show how BDD can be done from early requirement collection stage to late integration tests. It explains breaking user stories into behaviors, and then developers and test engineers taking the behavior specs and writing a WCF service and unit test for it, in parallel, and then eventually integrating the WCF service and doing the integration tests. It introduces how mocking is done using the Moq library. Moreover, it shows a way how you can write test once and do both unit and integration tests at the flip of a config setting. Watch the screencast here: Doing BDD with xUnit, Subspec and on a WCF Service  Warning: you might hear some noise in the audio in some places. Something wrong with audio bit rate. I suggest you let the video download for a while and then play it. If you still get noise, go back couple of seconds earlier and then resume play. It eliminates the noise.  The next video tutorial is about doing BDD to do automated UI tests. It shows how test engineers can take behaviors and then write tests that tests a prototype UI in isolation (just like Service Contract) in order to ensure the prototype conforms to the expected behaviors, while developers can write the real code and build the real product in parallel. When the real stuff is done, the same test can test the real stuff and ensure the agreed behaviors are satisfied. I have used WatiN to automate UI and test UI for expected behaviors. • Recover RAID 5 data after created new array instead of re-using

  Folks please help - I am a newb with a major headache at hand (perfect storm situation). I have a 3 1tb hdd on my ubuntu 11.04 configured as software raid 5. The data had been copied weekly onto another separate off the computer hard drive until that completely failed and was thrown away. A few days back we had a power outage and after rebooting my box wouldn't mount the raid. In my infinite wisdom I entered mdadm --create -f... command instead of mdadm --assemble and didn't notice the travesty that I had done until after. It started the array degraded and proceeded with building and syncing it which took ~10 hours. After I was back I saw that that the array is successfully up and running but the raid is not I mean the individual drives are partitioned (partition type f8 ) but the md0 device is not. Realizing in horror what I have done I am trying to find some solutions. I just pray that --create didn't overwrite entire content of the hard driver. Could someone PLEASE help me out with this - the data that's on the drive is very important and unique ~10 years of photos, docs, etc. Is it possible that by specifying the participating hard drives in wrong order can make mdadm overwrite them? when I do mdadm --examine --scan I get something like ARRAY /dev/md/0 metadata=1.2 UUID=f1b4084a:720b5712:6d03b9e9:43afe51b name=<hostname>:0 Interestingly enough name used to be 'raid' and not the host hame with :0 appended. • How to Maintain per-Client State in a WCF Service?

  I've created a WCF service in which I would like it to maintain state between calls from the client. I figured the easiest way to do this was to add this attribute to the service: [ServiceBehavior(InstanceContextMode = InstanceContextMode.PerSession)] since this is supposed to keep a separate service alive for each client over the life of the client proxy (or timeout in the extreme case). I also added a test function that tracks a list of user inputs, and spits out a concatenated string with all the inputs over the life of the service. When I run this in the test client generated by visual studio, I find that the list I was using to hold past data is reset with each call. Is there something else I need to do to maintain state per session?
