• Apache Lucene or another Search in iPhone app

  Hi I would like to implement a search functionality within my iPhone app which can search for terms within all the documents in the application. I believe I cannot use Apache Lucene directly since it is in Java. Can I use Lucy which is a C port of Lucene (not sure if Perl and Ruby would work on it)? Or is there any other open-source search engine which I can use in my iPhone app for search within the app? Thanks

• Changing the config file in a Visual Studio Package

  Hello everybody. I'm building a Visual Studio Package and associated with it, I have an app.config file (which contains some information about connecting to a WCF service). As far as I can tell, this package is actually connecting to the devnev.exe.config configuration file (if I use AppDomain.CurrentDomain.SetupInformation.ConfigurationFile), it will retrieve the path to the devnev.exe.config Firstly, is this correct? Shouldn't the package automatically pick up the app.config file? If this is the case, then how can I make the project use the app.config file? I'm running VS2010 Ultimate, programming in C#. Thanks!

• Different ways to use properties file in j2ee app

  I have a j2ee app using Struts2. I have a gloabl properties file which is declared in struts.properties which resides in WEB-INF/classes. It has the following setting: struts.custom.i18n.resources=mypropertyfile mypropertyfile also resides in WEB-INF/classes Say for example it contains the following: pdf.test.title=PDF Test then on jsp I use the following to make use of the property file <s:text name="pdf.test.title"/> This setup was working on Sun App server 8.2 but is not working on GlassFish App Server (I see pdf.test.title on the browser rather than PDF Test). I do not have access to GlassFish App server to try and tweak the setting to make it work. So I want to make changes to the code and see if that will help. My question is: What are some other ways to use properties file in a J2EE app? (using Struts2 or not). I'm also open to ways suggested to make changes on glassfish to make this work? Build/version #'s GlassFish = 9.1_02 (build b04-fcs) Struts2 = 2.0.6 JRE6

• django - variable declared in base project does not appear in app

  I have a variable called STATIC_URL, declared in settings.py in my base project: STATIC_URL = '/site_media/static/' This is used, for example, in my site_base.html, which links to CSS files as follows: <link rel="stylesheet" href="{{ STATIC_URL }}css/site_tabs.css" /> I have a bunch of templates related to different apps which extend site_base.html, and when I look at them in my browser the CSS is linked correctly as <link rel="stylesheet" href="/site_media/static/css/site_tabs.css" /> (These came with a default pinax distribution.) I created a new app called 'courses' which lives in the ...../apps/courses folder. I have a view for one of the pages in courses called courseinstance.html which extends site_base.html just like the other ones. However, when this one renders in my browser it comes out as <link rel="stylesheet" href="css/site_tabs.css" /> as if STATIC_URL were equal to "" for this app. Do I have to make some sort of declaration to get my app to take on the same variable values as the project? I don't have a settings.py file for the app. by the way, the app is listed in my list of INSTALLED_APPS and it gets served up fine, just without the link to the CSS file (so the page looks funny).   I'm doing a metro app for Windows 8. And as part of its functionality, I need to initiate shutdown of Winodws 8 from the Metro App. Here are the questions: 1) Firstly, I researched a lot on this topic and I found out that System.Diagnostics.Process is not available for Metro App. So, is there a another way around? 2) Even if I can't directly shutdown, is there a way to trigger it from the Metro App? I use the following code: var newTabId = $('#tabs').tabs('option', 'selected') + 1; $('#tabs').tabs("add",'someUrl.htm','New Tab',newTabId); (Tab will be added next to the currently selected tab) Now none of the newly added tabs fire any events such as a click or hover $('#tablist li').click(function(){ alert('test message'); }); But events fire properly for the tabs that were there in the initial source code. How to resolve?

  Hi, I have an app where we want users to be able to send us email/info. This would be a standard template which will open up on a button click within the app. I am struggling at the moment to find a legit way to do it. The problem is there are 2 things I need. 1) A way to let users send email to me 2) A way of knowing the person sending me mail is actually someone who has downloaded my app. Does anyone know if there is a way to do this?   Does a destructor get called if the app crashes? If it's an unhandled exception I'm guessing it does, but what about more serious errors, or something like a user killing the application process? And a few more potentially dumb questions: what happens to all the objects in an app when the app exits and all finalizers have been executed - do the objects get garbage collected or are they somehow all "unloaded" with the process or appdomain? is the garbage collector part of each application (runs in the same process) or is it independent?

  Say I'm writing a Django app, and all the templates in the app require a certain variable. The "classic" way to deal with this, afaik, is to write a context processor and add it to TEMPLATE_CONTEXT_PROCESSORS in the settings.py. My question is, is this the right way to do it, considering that apps are supposed to be "independent" from the actual project using them? In other words, when deploying that app to a new project, is there any way to avoid the project having to explicitly mess around with its settings?

• IIS7 ASP.NET application - 2 identical apps in 2 identical app pools, 1 is responsive and 1 is not

  I have an ASP.NET (v4.0) web app that is installed in a virtual directory (as an application) and is hosted in it's own app pool. This is repeated for each instance of the app (i.e. per customer). The app pools are integrated (not classic) mode and LoadUserProfile is set to true. Otherwise, default settings. Each instance currently has it's own copy of the code/config, and it's own data folder (basic file read/writes). 1 instance of this app runs well (operation used for comparison takes ~4 seconds). Every other instance runs slowly (from 10-25 seconds for the same operation). If I move the slower instance to the "fastest" app pool that instance springs to life. If I move the faster instance into the slower app pool that instance slows to a crawl. The app pools were created in the same way initially - manually. I later used the powershell copy routine to ensure an exact copy of the faster app pool and still the same behaviour. Comparing the apppool.config files shows they are identical barring the virtual directory assignments. There are no shared resources that are being blocked, so far as I can tell, and I tested that by shutting down the performant app pool and restarting... slow is still slow, and then when I restart that app pool (so it's loaded last) it's still faster...

Do you think the main menu layout of the app (where all the navigation buttons are there) are on the client or being rendered dynamically? Similarly apps like NYTimes or US News, what portion is done on the client and what is rendered dynamically. What could be the best way to render things on-demand. Would it be ok to use to UIWebView and render most of the app in it? A quick overview would help. Thank you!

• url encoded forward slashes breaking my codeigniter app

  i’m trying to create a url string that works like this: /app/process/example.com/index.html so in other words, /app/process/$URL i then retrieve the url with $this->uri->segment(3); the forward slashes in the URL will of course be a problem accessing uri segments, so i’ll go ahead and url encode the URL portion: /app/process/example.com%2Findex.html .. but now I just get a 404 saying ... Not Found The requested URL /app/process/example.com/index.html was not found on this server. it appears that my url encoding of forward slashes breaks CI’s URI parser. what can i do to get around this problem?

However, I want to also send along with the report any console (NSLog) information that was printed to the console (the stuff that one can see both in Xcode and in Console.app). However, I want to make sure I get only the logs for my app. I don't want logs from other apps. How does one get the console logs for a specific app?

• Unknown and unreproducible crash causes App Store rejection

  After submitting our application several times, we continue to receive the following response: Thank you for submitting My App to the App Store. We've reviewed your application and determined that we cannot post this version of your iPad application to the App Store because My App is crashing on iPad running iPhone OS 3.2 and Mac OS X 10.6.2. My App crashes upon launch. Unfortunately, crash logs have not been generated. However, resigning the same build with the AdHoc entitlements and loading the build onto the device yields no such crash. After a number of attempts, the application simply does not crash as reported by the reviewer. Furthermore, the reviewer does not provide any useful logging that may have been generated by SpringBoard such as an exit status or event if it had worked properly for any other device. There are no calls to explicitly exit or quit the application in the code line and yet the application terminates on startup. What might cause an application to terminate in such a manner? Under what conditions is an application tested that might not be found under a development environment? Could it be a result of a signing issue that the submission validation system is simply unable to catch? Thanks in advance.

  hey guys, I am testing my app on my jailbreaked iPhone and i noticed something strange. When i want to uninstall it on device i got no cross to delete the app. All the other apps (not mines) have the white circled cross. Whereas on the simulator i am able to delete my app. Is it because i run it on a jailbreak with a codesign workaround? Or maybe i am missing something in the app plist. The compilation is set to AnyCPU so I would expect that on a 64-bit machine, the app would be run at 64-bit. There are many Third-party programs incorporated into the app, could they be causing a problem? How do I figure out why 64-bit compilation is not being done?

• How to gather usage statistics for iPhone app?

  I am in the process of releasing my first iPhone app. It's a simple utility, I'd just like to gauge the release process, app lifetime and trends, just so it can help make more realistic choices in future apps. I think it would be nice to have usage statistics in addition to download stats from Apple. For example, how many times is the app opened by each user, what iPhone OS version do they have, etc. I think some of it would simply be to try and connect to a known URL on one of my domains, passing it anonymous information (let's say, connect to http://mydomain.net/stats?app=myApp&version=1.0.0&os=3.1.2&used=18). My questions are: is that forbidden in any way by Apple's rules? (none that I could find, at least) does that seem reasonable to you? are there existing frameworks that would do that simpler/better that writing my own code?
