  I set up a writable share directory "/home/net/share" with acl like this: sudo mkdir -p "/home/net/share" sudo setfacl -m "u:localuser:rwx,u:remoteuser:rwx,g:users:rwx" "/home/net/share" My /etc/samba/smb.conf looks like this: [global] workgroup = w server string = server security = user load printers = no log file = /var/log/samba/%m.log max log size = 50 dns proxy = no printing = bsd printcap name = /dev/null disable spoolss = yes encrypt passwords = true invalid users = nobody root follow symlinks = yes wide links = yes [share] comment = Writable by localuser and remoteuser path = /home/net/share valid users = remoteuser read only = no public = no printable = no Locally, localuser and remoteuser have user accounts and smbpasswds and can both read, create and delete files in /home/net/share. But when I log on from a different machine (like this: sudo mount -t cifs //server/share mountpoint/ -o username=remoteuser ), I get "Permission denied" both when trying to create directories and files, oddly though, it does create files (not directories!) despite these messages! How can I get this working?

• Samba groups not working

  I am trying to get samba working with groups. I am using CentOS. #sswords = yes lanman auth = no null passwords = no hosts allow = 129.130.155. netbios name = a server server string = base PHP server [team$] path= /var/www writable = yes valid users = @team force group = @team I have created a few users in linux, and added them to a group called team using groupadd -a -g username. I the attempted to login and got a NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_GROUP. If I comment out the two last lines in the config it works, but I wish to have group ownership and prefer just to be able to add users to a group in Linux and for it to work with the samba.

• Outlook Replies with Inline Comments

  I have a user who uses Word as his e-mail editor. Often when replying to an e-mail, he'll insert his comments into the body of the original e-mail. Since he is using Word as the editor, these show as [User Name] Comment Text in a contrasting color. However, some users see the comments in their Outlook, and others do not. I've tried Selecting/DeSelecting Word as the e-mail editor on the recipients, and it does not seem to make a difference. We are using Exchange 2007 with Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2007 clients along with a few Entourage Clients. There does not seem to be a pattern related to which client is used, but Entourage seems to be more likely to have the problem. TIA, Bill

  Hello , I am trying to unzip a file with the size of 2GB I am getting the following error : unzip CLTE_C_08.zip Archive: CLTE_C_08.zip End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on the last disk(s) of this archive. unzip: cannot find zipfile directory in one of CLTE_C_08.zip or CLTE_C_08.zip.zip, and cannot find CLTE_C_08.zip.ZIP, period. After some googling, some people say that this error is because the file is too big, others say because file is corrupt, others say that it could be a not unix archive. So my question , how to find out if file is valid archive file on my Centos and what is the command/trick to uncompress big files ( if any ) Thanks in advance :)

• Unable to get to remote samba share

  I have a remote VPS that I would like to setup samba on and only allow my IP access to it. I currently have in my smb.conf: [global] netbios name = apollo security = user encrypt passwords = true socket options = TCP_NODELAY printing = bsd log level = 3 log file = /var/log/samba/log/%m debug timestamp = yes max log size = 100 [hosting] path = /hosting/ comment = Hosting Folder browseable = yes read only = yes guest account = yes valid users = nick I have the ports (137,138,139,445) open in iptables (they're open to everyone right now while I debug) and I see nothing in the syslog about iptables blocking my requests. When I try to open a file browser to my address \\ipaddress, it hangs for a good thirty seconds, and then opens a log in box. I enter my user name and password for the server, hit okay. It then opens the same box, I enter my credentials again and hit enter. Windows then tells me it could not connect. My user account is added to Samba already. Anybody have any suggestions what I can do to get this working?

• Computer freeze at night

  Every night except one this week my laptop froze over night. I tried to check the event viewer, but there's no real help there. Tonight I'll do a memtest to check the RAM. And this shouldn't be a temperature issue since I can play game without any problem (Diablo 3, League of legend) Is there any diagnosys tool I could use. Maybe something that would write time down every minute so I know the precise time when it freeze? I have win7 and 8gb of RAM I installed myself Answer to comment:Asus N71JQ Unknown time, but it seems differents if I look at the last entry in the logs I have no information to tell you, that's why I ask for tool and not the solution. I usualy go to sleep after midnight, but I have AVG free edition as antivirus

• Server drives: 2.5" SCSI less reliable than 3.5" ?

  Just had an HP 2.5" SAS 10k drive fail on a RAID5 array after about 2.5 years. It made me wonder if this was a fluke or an indication that 2.5" drives are less reliable than 3.5" SAS drives. I've had many 3.5" SAS drives running for many years without any issues (knock on wood). I would think that smaller drives would generate less heat and therefore be more reliable, but couldn't find any evidence of this. I realize all drives will eventually fail and that it's a crap shoot with any particular model, but was hoping someone could point out some related studies or comment on the SCSI drive sizes they've found to be most reliable in servers. Lorsque je sors je prends donc un ip du pool par exemple 200.0.0.10. Comment ça fonctionne sachant que ma nouvelle ip (200.0.0.10) ne se trouve pas sur le meme réseau que mon interface de destination (10.0.0.2)? English: I have 2 routers A and B, interconnected with a serial connection, with the ip's 10.0.0.1/30 for A and 10.0.0.2/30 for B. On router A NAT was activated with the pool 200.0.0.1 - 200.0.0.15/28. When connection to this router, I get an ip from the pool, for example 200.0.0.10. Knowing my new ip is 200.0.0.10, which is not on the same network as my destination interface (10.0.0.2), how can this work?

• Postfix not delivering mails

  I have problems with a recently configured postfix MTA. When postfix starts the following warning appears: "postfix/qmgr[5078]: warning: connect to transport private/filter: No such file or directory" I have amavis-new as a content-filter, but even if I comment-out the relevant line, the warning appears. As a result (I think), of the above, I get errors like below, for every virtual domain that I have: "postfix/error[5080]: 254851834107: to=, relay=none, delay=13082, delays=13082/0.01/0/0.01, dsn=4.3.0, status=deferred (mail transport unavailable)" The good news for me, is that somehow I managed to fix that (don't ask me how!!!!) The problem is that now I have 50 or so mails, that were affected by the aforementioned problem, in the mail-queue... If I "postqueue -f " I get the same style of error as before (mail transport unavailable)...however new mails are delivered to their final destination properly... Any suggestions? Kind regards. P.S. Local mail delivery from/to Unix and virtual users, was OK write from the beginning!

• rsync server, uploaded files permissions incorrect

  I'm trying to setup an rsync server on my Ubuntu machine. Transfer from a local PC to the server via rsync does work, but the resultant uploaded files have no r,w or x bits set, e.g. ---------- 1 fredb fredb 0 Aug 30 20:50 sk_upgrade_20120830_033450.txt ---------- 1 fredb fredb 0 Aug 30 20:50 sk_user_20120827_184534.txt ---------- 1 fredb fredb 0 Aug 30 20:50 sk_user_20120830_033450.txt My rsyncd.conf file is: motd file = /etc/rsyncd.motd [workspace] path = /tmp comment = rsync server uid = nobody gid = nobody read only = false auth users = fredb secrets file = /etc/rsyncd.scrt How can I get the target files permissions correct? • Change Block Tracking settings not retained for a VM on VMWare 5.5

  I'm trying to enable Change Block Tracking as per this VMWare KB article but the setting ctkEnabled is not being retained in the advanced options or being added to the vmx file. The setting scsi0:0.ctkEnabled is being retained and I see a file vmname-ctk.vmdk in the datastore. I've verified that the vm doesn't have any snapshots but don't see any other suggestions in the KB (or google, of course.) Edit: The last comment on this community post. It's a slightly different circumstance, but suggests that there is an known bug editing these settings in the web-gui.

• How can I make my browser(s) finish AJAX requests instead of stopping them when I switch to another page?

  I usually need to deal with things on a page right before switching to yet another page, this ranges from "liking / upvoting a comment or post" up to "an important action" and doesn't always come with feedback on whether the action actually proceeded. This is a huge problem! I assume the action to proceed once I start the particular AJAX request, but because I switch to another page it didn't actually happen because the AJAX request got aborted. This has left me several times with coming back to the page and seeing my action didn't take place at all; to give you an idea how bad this is, this even happened once when commenting on Super User! Is there a way to tell my browser to not drop these AJAX connections but simply let them finish?

• Ubuntu 12.10 sources.list empty after install

  I recently installed the Ubuntu 12.10 server version from a USB stick. The step "Install additional software" or whatever keeps failing, so i though screw it and continued. Everything else worked like a charm. I thought. Turns out, the only two entries in my sources.list are the install CD. This means that i have no way of getting a.. well.. anything installed. Can someone give me a short list of repositories that i need so i can put them in the file? And on a similar note: What is the comment character for the sources list? #?

• SATA Devices not showing up when in UEFI mode

  I'm trying to install Windows and the bios should be set to UEFI mode. The problem is that all SATA devices aren't showing up (shows as if there aren't any) so I can't boot from the installation CD (it's just not there). The weird thing is that when set to LEGACY mode they all show up.. SATA mode is set to AHCI and I'm on Lenovo Y510P. I have a Linux OS installed that is accessible only when BIOS is in LEGACY mode (otherwise the hard drive it's on is not available) I also tried reseting the BIOS settings which didn't help.. Comment please if more details needed Extra details: Computer model: Lenovo IdeaPad Y510P (not overcloacked) Installed Linux OS version: Linux 3.7-trunk-amd64 x86_64 Trying to install Windows: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit BIOS Information: Vendor: LENOVO Version: 74CN26WW(V1.07) Update: Using user1608638 answer and suggestion of using the USB flash drive as the boot device instead of the CD/DVD method I succeeded in installing Windows 7! In my case this looks (at the first glance) pretty simple: The application has a clean rpm-install and did install almost all files into a sub-directory of /opt. My idea is: Do a find of all binaries Check their library-dependencies Record the results into a list Do a rsync of that list into the chroot-target-directory before startup of the application Now I wonder - ist there any script around that already does such a job (perl/bash/python)? So far I found only specialized solutions for single applications (like sftp-chroot). Update I see three close-votes for the reason "off topic". This is a question that arose because I have to install that ancient piece of software on a server at work. So if you still feel this is off-topic - leave a comment...

I want to remote desktop connection to my friend over the internet, but I don't have premission for port forwarding on the router, and my friend also can't configure his router. • 64-bit Hardware Virtualization on VirtualBox

  I am trying to set up a SQL Server practice lab using VirtualBox and a trial copy of Windows Server 2K8 R2 in ISO format. I received an error message that states my processor does not support 64-bit hardware virtualization. Although I "Enabled" Intel ardware virtualization in the BIOS that still doesn't work. According to the Intel website, the processor does support VT-x, however the accelerated tab in VirtualBox is greyed out and no references to VT-x are mentioned in the settings options available to me. Any ideas on how I can get around this? I checked around ServerFault and couldn't find anything but if I missed an applicable post a link is great too. • Vim Misbehaving

  I'm not sure what changed, but lately Vim has been driving me nuts. Whenever I try to do a column mode insert, vim takes my current character and adds to the last character I inserted. For example, the first time I do a block comment by inserting # on multiple lines, it works fine. The next time, however, I end up with ## inserted on every line, and the problem just compounds from there. To do this, I'm hitting Ctrl-V, down or up arrow, Shift-I, #, and then Esc. This worked for months, but now it seems to be pasting extra stuff in. I've tried disabling all .vimrc files, but the behavior remains the same. Any ideas?

• Debian doesn't boot after removing secondary hard drive

  In the beginning I had Debian 6 running on one hard drive (/dev/sda1). Then I decided to keep all my stuff(pics, videos, etc..) in another slave hard drive (/dev/sdb1). So sda1 has Debian OS sdb1 doesn't contain any OS files I have made it to mount automatically by adding a row in /etc/fstab (UUID and directory to mount to) Time have passed and when I tried to change that secondary hard drive with another hard drive with bigger capacity, for some reason Debian won't boot (just itself sda1) after removing secondary hard drive (sdb1) But if I plug sdb1 back, it boots just fine. I tried to comment line out from /etc/fstab, so it doesn't mount And also did update-grub after umount /dev/sdb1 What's the right way to remove hard drive secondary hard drive?
