• Qt, unit testing and mock objects.

  Hello. Qt framework has internal support for testing via QtTest package. Unfortunately, i didn't find any facilities in it that can assist in creating mock objects. Qt signals and slots offers a natural way to create a unit-testing friendly units with input (slots) and output (signals). But is it any easy way to test that calling specified slot in object will result in emitting correct signals with correct arguments? Of course i can manually create a mock objects and connect them to objects being tested, but it's a lot of code. Maybe it's some techniques exists that allows to somehow automate mock objects creation while unit-testing Qt-based applications?

• Objective-C (iPhone) Memory Management

  I'm sorry to ask such a simple question, but it's a specific question I've not been able to find an answer for. I'm not a native objective-c programmer, so I apologise if I use any C# terms! If I define an object in test.h @interface test : something { NSString *_testString; } Then initialise it in test.m -(id)init { _testString = [[NSString alloc] initWithString:@"hello"]; } Then I understand that I would release it in dealloc, as every init should have a release -(void)dealloc { [_testString release]; } However, what I need clarification on is what happens if in init, I use one of the shortcut methods for object creation, do I still release it in dealloc? Doesn't this break the "one release for one init" rule? e.g. -(id)init { _testString = [NSString stringWithString:@"hello"]; } Thanks for your helps, and if this has been answered somewhere else, I apologise!! • Copy a file to a new directory path in DOS

  How can I copy a file using DOS commands into a directory structure that may not yet exist? I need to be able to force the creation of the directory path to the target file location if that location doesn't already exist. For example, there is already a file.txt in this location: C:\file.txt And I want to copy it to C:\example\new\path\to\copy\of\file\file.txt but at this time C:\example\ and all the subdirectories may or may not yet exist. Basically, I am looking for a "copy and create the target path if necessary" command. What would you recommend is the best way to achieve this?

I need to do this in my model, vs using a ModelForm. If there is another way to do it (while still in clean()), I'm completely open to any suggestions.

I am using webservice to create Order in Oracle database and websvc will give a response (OrderNumber) and I will inform customer that his Order (OrderNumber) is generated My problem The creation of order is taking too much time in backend system and user is keeping refreshing the page, On each refresh user is coming back to Order create Page, so user is able to click on create Order button again In such cases multiple orders are creating for same orderlines.I can restrict user to create only one order per session in case I got order number in websvc response and I can give ordernumber to customer in next page But real problem come when I didn't get response(Ordernumber) and user is refreshing page. request is already went to Backend system and it will create order and my applicaion will not get response Is there any method in PHP where we can asyncronously check the status of order if first request is initiated by user and it doesn't matter the furthur page navigation Please help me out.. • Which web containers install themselves well as a Windows service?

  We have had a web application product for several years, and used Tomcat to deploy it under Windows as it registers itself as a Windows service so it starts and stops automatically. We may now happen to need more JEE facilitites than is provided by Tomcat (we are very tempted by the JEE 6 things in the container) so the question is which Open Source JEE containers works well as Windows services. Since Glassfish is the only JEE 6 implementation right now, it would be nice if it works well, but I'd like to hear experiences and not just what I can read from brochures. If not, what else do people use? EDIT: This goes for web containers too, and not just JEE containers. We will probably keep the necessary stack included until we find the right container and it gets JEE6 support. EDIT: I want this to work as distributed. I'm not interested in manually hacking wrappers etc., but want the installation process to handle the creation and removal of the service.

• Why doesn’t ABPersonViewController show any properties besides the name?

  For some reason, ABPersonViewController is unwilling to display any properties aside from the name, no matter what properties are set for it to display. I’m unable to use the AddressBookUI controllers to let a user select a contact to display, since my UI has custom requirements, otherwise I’d go that route (as Apple does in their sample project.) • Windows 7 disk backup and clone for deployment to multiple systems

  I'm in the process of deploying some new PCs (there's only 8), all identical hardware. What I'd like to do is install Windows 7 (64bit), join to domain etc, install a bunch of other software, and then clone that drive to multiple other machines. I'd also like to be able to use it as a backup image, so the machine can be restored back to that image at some future date. I understand this involves at least sysprep, but I am confused after reading some tutorials that talk about using Windows Automated Installation Kit, or hacks with the registry and custom-build batch files. This process seems overly complex to me: I did something similar 10+ years ago, and and don't remember it being this bad. Surely things have improved in a decade? There's also some products that involve having network servers running deployment software, network boot, etc etc.. this is way more than I want to set up. My systems are all identical hardware. Is there a simplified way to clone PCs? Preferably (since I'm a lazy developer, and not an IT admin) I'd like to find some off-the-shelf product that I can run after I get the machine setup, that will spit out a bootable DVD I can run on all the other systems, which will boot up, ask for a computer name, join it to the domain, and that's it. Does such as product exist?

  Hi Everyone, I have managed to get my email problem sorted so now everytime a case is created an email goes out to the specified address. I have a usermailer.rb def makeakase(email, name, jobno, casesubject) recipients email from "no-reply@your_rails_app.com" subject "FW: Kase creation from Survey Manager" sent_on Time.now body :name => name end and I have the kases_controller.rb: if @kase.save UserMailer.deliver_makeakase("[email protected]", "Highrise") In the body I would like to use the tags that I use in the kase show view such as: <%=h @kase.jobno %> - <%=h @kase.casesubject %> but they don't work, I get the following error: wrong number of arguments (2 for 4) Any ideas? • Best way for allowing subdomain session cookies using Tomcat

  By default tomcat will create a session cookie for the current domain. If you are on www.example.com, your cookie will be created for www.example.com (will only work on www.example.com). Whereas for example.com it will be created for .example.com (desired behaviour, will work on any subdomain of example.com as well as example.com itself). I've seen a few Tomcat valves which seem to intercept the creation of session cookies and create a replacement cookie with the correct .example.com domain, however none of them seem to work flawlessly and they all appear to leave the existing cookie and just create a new one. This means that two JSESSIONID cookies are being sent with each request. I was wondering if anybody has a definitive solution to this problem.

• Why does ASP.Net locks when I update code with TortoiseSVN

  Hi, when I update Adobe Flash/Flex code that is not related to ASP.Net with TortoiseSVN (latest) on a Windows Server 2008, the complete website locks and stop responding. Is it ASP.Net recompiling my code, is it IIS 7 or is it Tortoise locking the file system? How can I prevent or minimize this if I need to do an update when 1000 users are using the ASP.Net website? UPDATE: Thanks to Aito and Bryan, I learned more about AppDomain. I found these two links where I discover that folder creation/deletion recycle the AppDomain in ASP.Net 2. --If TortoiseSVN creates folders in it's hidden .svn folders hierarchy, I guess it will lock the app! How can I prevent Rails from pluralizing the columns? • Hard Disk:S.M.A.R.T. Stas BAD, Back up and replace

  I have an laptop top hard drive I was trying to use to my new media computer. The case is small and can accommodate for 2 2.5" drives, no 3.5" drives. I had been using the hard drive as storage hard drive until now. When I go to install Windows on the hard drive first I'm prompted at the bios of: Hard Disk:S.M.A.R.T. Stas BAD, Back up and replace. And then again in the Windows Setup, informing me that the hard drive is bad. So I did a full format of the drive and tried again. Same error. So I took it out and hooked it back up to my other computer via an Sata usb adapter kit (maybe the cause?). The hard drive is recognized fine and when I scanned it for errors by going: right click -> properties -> tools -> error checking It returns that the hard drive is fine. I have tried 3 different SATA cables and multiple jumpers. When I plugged in my 1.5 tb 3.5" drive the computer that gives me the S.M.A.R.T. error on the 2.5" drive, recognizes it with no problems. Any ideas on why this is happening and how I can fix it?

• Huh? JDK not found? (on Windows 7 64-bit)

  I am setting up a development environment for the latest Android 2.3 on a fresh install of Windows 7 64-bit. I first installed the 64-bit JDK 6 (jdk-6u23-windows-x64.exe). Then, I installed 64-bit Eclipse Classic 3.6 (eclipse-SDK-3.6.1-win32-x86_64.zip). Then, I proceed to install the Android SDK Starter Package: installer_r08-windows.exe. But... upon start it says: "Java SE Development Kit (JDK) not found." Why? I just installed it. Is this a mismatch between 32-bit and 64-bit? How do I solve this? Update (1): I tried setting the %JAVA_HOME% environment variable, as well as setting the Installed JREs in Eclipse, as suggested below. None of these solved the problem. It appears that I am not the only experiencing the problem, as this thread suggests: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1919340/android-sdk-setup-under-windows-7-pro-64-bit I wonder whether there is a 64-bit version of the Android SDK. Update (2): I used the zip version instead (android-sdk_r08-windows.zip), ran android.bat, updated all SDK packages, and installed the ADT plugin (8.0.1), not before having to check: 'Contact all update sites during install to find required software'. We'll see how this goes... Update (3): It worked! (going to accept @bubu's answer shortly) -- but why doesn't the emulator include the HelloAndroid app when I run it (Ctrl+F11) from Eclipse?

  Hello, I'm writing a web app which will allow creation of events. An event can have a title as well as a description amongst other things. The app needs to be multilingual. So I have 4 tables for localization: ResourceTypes, ResourceKeys, Resources, and Locales. A resource key can have multiple values in Resources table for different locales. So Resources is a many to many table between ResourceKeys and Locales. So in the event table I want to have a resourceKey for its title as well as a resourceKey for its description. So my question is, is it OK from database-design perspective to have two foreign keys from a table into another table? Has anybody used a better approach in such a scenario?

My ideal solution would be one where I could forward or copy a thread of emails into one spot, and go back after the fact to organize/categorize/add to it. Any ideas?

  Hi, I have an "item", which goes through a multi-page creation process. Images are uploaded at step five, and I keep track of the steps by using the attribute "complete". When validating whether an image is attached with paperclip, I get problems using the code below: validates_attachment_presence :pic1, :if => Proc.new { |u| u.complete == "step5"} It seems that I can't access the "complete" attribute, as the active-record object seems to be the paperclip image. Is there a way for me to check at which point in the process I am and validate conditionally? Thanks, Michael

• Should I enabled 802.3x hardware flow control?

  What is the conventional wisdom regarding 802.3x flow control? I'm setting up a network at a new colo and am wondering if I should be enabling it or not. My oh-cool-a-bright-and-shiny-new-toy self wants to enable it, but this seems like one of those decisions that could blow up in my face later on. My network: An HP ProCurve 2510G-24 switch A pair of Debian 5 HP DL380 G5's with built-in NC373i 2-port NIC LACP'd as one link. 9000 jumbo frames enabled. (Application) A pair of hand-built Ubuntu server with 4-port Intel Pro/1000 LACP'd as one link. 9000 jumbo frames enabled. (NAS) A few other servers with with single 1Gbps ports, but one with 100Mbps. Most of this kit is 802.3x. I've been enabling it as I go along, and am about to test the network. But as my 'go live' day nears, I am worried about the 802.3x decision as I've never explicitly used it before. Also, I've read some 10-year old articles out there on the Intertubes that warn against using flow control. Should I be enabling 802.3x hardware flow control?

• Building big, immutable objects without constructors having long parameter lists

  Hi StackOverflow! I have some big (more than 3 fields) Objects which can and should be immutable. Every time I run into that case i tend to create constructor abominations with long parameter lists. It doesn't feel right, is hard to use and readability suffers. It is even worse if the fields are some sort of collection type like lists. A simple addSibling(S s) would ease the object creation so much but renders the object mutable. What do you guys use in such cases? I'm on Scala and Java, but i think the problem is language agnostic as long as the language is object oriented. Solutions I can think of: "Constructor abominations with long parameter lists" The Builder Pattern Thanks for your input!
