  • HVM virtualization with PV drivers on XenServer

    Is it possible to create an HVM guest in XenServer 5.5 that uses PV drivers for disk and network without being fully paravirutalized? This should give me decent performance from the VM without having to jump through hoops to create a PV guest when a pre-built template doesn't exist. Since PV drivers exist for Windows, and XenServer provides templates for windows that use HVM virtualization this must be possible, I just don't see how to configure this myself.

  • How to get Faster RDP

    We are using Win 2008 R2 and connecting to it from Win7 boxes. The RDP is faster then before but we want to know if their are any other solutions that will make it faster. Due to licensing issue we got a software that multiple people need to access (not all at the same time) and the only way i can find is to install on a server and give RDP access to users. Is their a faster remote desktop tool then RDP ? Thanks Jay

    Quick version: New computer, attached to Windows domain, with SteadyState w/ Disk Protection turned on, cannot log on as domain user because Windows states 'system security log is full' Troubleshooting performed: disabled all 'restrictions' listed in SteadyState, cleared system security log, changed security log settings to overwrite entries when it becomes full, restarted computer to commit changes, verified changes were commited - still cannot log on as domain user, changed Documents and Settings folder to another partition, still cannot log on as domain user Let me know if you need a more detailed description of any steps performed. I appreciate any help you can give me.

    Does anyone know of a program that would allow you to control multiple IR cameras via usb (computer jack) to rs232 (camera hardware)? We have a cameraswitcher, very low key, that I can press buttons and it willswitch the view of the camera from one to the next. currently I control the cameras by sellecting the cameras via a remote control for change of angles. Does anyone know anything that could give me some ability to do manual controls via my computer?. Please Advise, thanks!

I've been asked to create a new user, but not give them an email address. I guess I could just disable their email account in Exchange, but is there a nicer method?

    I have Leopard (Mac OS X 10.5) on a G4 Powerbook and a camcorder with a firewire device. It doesn't have iMovie, which is now part of the separate iLife Suite and requires an Intel Mac. Anyway, Image Capture does not recognize the firewire video feed as an image capture device.     I've got a dual-boot system using Windows 7 and Linux Mint 13. When I first installed Mint using the regular Mint installer, the installer did not give me the option of partitioning my drive, presumably because my computer already had 4 partitions. I decided that I wanted to uninstall Mint and opt for Ubuntu instead, but I have no idea how to remove Mint! Every guide I look at tells me to just delete/reformat the Linux partition... But in my case, no separate partition exists.

Of course, the maximum number of VMs would be depending on the type of applications (disk intensive, network intensive, ...), and server hardware (like number of cores, memory, ...), but still it would be useful to know if a typical maximum is about 10, 20 or 30 VMs per server. Lets say I have 3/2/2012, 3/16/2012, 3/30/2012 and some gaps and then again biweekly dates. generate 3/9/2012, 3/16/2012, 3/23/2012, 3/30/2012 and so on...I was trying to use INDEX and MATCH but it would give me biweekly again.   • Any reason not to disable Windows kernel paging?

    So I'm planning on eventually going to 2 GB (mobo max) RAM from 1 GB, and I want to disable kernel paging once I do, because I've heard it can give a performance boost (and that I believe). Any reason not to do it or any general thoughts about it? Edit: for clarification, this is not disabling general RAM paging. This is disabling having kernel memory paged (or at least parts of it, as Charlls noted).
