• Tomcat 7 ClassNotFoundException: org.apache.tomcat.JarScanner

  When I try and start my app I get this error. I have verified that JarScanner exists in the CATALINA_HOME directory so I dont know why it cant find it. Is there anything that could lead to this issue starting my app? • Can't connect to Wired Network after installing 12.04

  I have installed 12.04 into a used HP Compaq DC 7100 CMT. Plugged in LAN cable into the computer and it says network disconnected. from what I understand on the things I've read, it's not getting the address right, maybe it's just a guess (hardware address 00:16:35:78:47:bb). I know the LAN cable is working I can get on the net with the old computer. (Old computer is using device MAC address; Auto eth0 00:11:11:E6:4F:FE). I have put this address into the newer HP and it shows last used (minutes ago) but no Internet sever not found. I tried the hardware address it says never. I feel and think this should be easy to fix. But I just don't know. • Question about separating game core engine from game graphics engine...

  Suppose I have a SquareObject class, which implements IDrawable, an interface which contains the method void Draw(). I want to separate drawing logic itself from the game core engine. • How can I get nVidia CUDA or OpenCL working on a laptop with nVidia discrete card/Intel Integrated Graphics?

  Background: I'm a 3D artist (as a hobby) and have recently started using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS as a dual-boot with Windows 7. It's running on my a fairly new 64-bit Toshiba laptop with an nVidia GeForce GT 540M GPU (graphics card). It also, however has Intel Integrated Graphics (which I suspect Ubuntu's been using). So, when I render my 3D scenes to images on Windows, I am able to choose between using my CPU or my nVidia GPU (faster). From the 3D application, I can set the GPU to use either CUDA or OpenCL. In Ubuntu, there's no GPU option. After doing (too much?) research on the issues with Linux and the nVidia Optimus technology, I am slightly more enlightened, but a lot more confused. I don't care one bit about the Optimus technology, as battery life is not by any means an issue for me. Here's my question: What can I do to be able to use CUDA-utilizing programs (such as Blender) on my nVidia GPU in Ubuntu? Will I need nVidia drivers? (I have heard they don't play nicely with Optimus setups on Linux.) Is there at least a way to use OpenCL on my GPU in Ubuntu?

  I hope this is the correct StackExchange, since I am only using StackOverflow for Web development, but need some help with my server configuration. I would like to install VMware vSphere Hypervisor 5 on my server here at home and run a view machines on it such as Windows Server 2008 and Red Hat. I used to have either OpenSuse or Windows Server 2008 installed but I would like to get into VMWare Hypervisor. My hardware configuration: - Intel S5000PSL with bios version S5000.86B.10.60.0091 build date 10/09/2008 as of read out of bios - E5420 @ 2.5GHz Intel Xeon CPU The Intel Virtualization Technology is enabled in the BIOS - DVD DH20A4P DVD Writer - 8GB ECC Ram I have configured a RAID 0 on my 2 WD 2TB SATA drives I have burned the Hypervisor 5 on an empty DVD and it is bootable, I tested it on my client PC. The main problem here is basically, that I cannot boot the DVD on my server. I have set the Boot Option to the DVD drive. I have booted from the BIOS straight in the DVD drive and it does not work. I do not see any error messages. The only thing I see are the PXE error messages when it tries booting from the network and other devices, obviously without any result. Does anybody know why I cannot boot the DVD? What could cause the problem? I have sucessfully installed Windows Server 2008 via original DVD about 1 year ago, so the DVD drive can read and does work. The DVD drive is available in the BIOS and I have checked all cables and none of them is loose in any way. I even see the light flashing but it does not want to boot from the DVD. I am looking forward to suggestions and things that I should check. Thank you very much

• There's no sound on Ubuntu with an Intel HDA onboard chip and Realtek ALC1200 codec.

  For a while now, my sound has not been working in Ubuntu. It used to play OK, but after some upgrade (might have been distro upgrade to 9.10), it stopped working. I'm currently running 10.04 on an amd64 architecture. I'm using the builtin audio on a Foxconn motherboard, it's an ATI / Intel HDA chip with an Azalia controller, apparently it's using the Realtek ALC1200 codec. All the gory details here. I found a nice sound troubleshooting tutorial here, which is well-written and pretty extensive, however, I fail to look up the supported "models" for my soundcard. Mine actually pointed me to a separate file, Documentation/HD-Audio-Models.txt, which, for my driver version is located here and contains no section related to ALC1200 codecs. I tried putting the driver options probe-mask=1 and model=auto in a config file for modprobe, as suggested elsewhere, but this just lead to snd-hda-intel not able to load at all anymore. I also tried installing the linux-backports-modules-alsa package for my kernel, because the description sounded promising, but that didn't change anything, either.

• Can't get intel atom g-500 video driver to work with ubuntu 10.10 netbook edition.

  First of all I am completely new to Linux, so if you respond, please do so in a 'linux for dummies' tone so that my brain will be able to process it. I recently installed ubuntu on my dell mini-inspiron 1010. It has one GB of ram and an intel atom processor that uses the intel 500 graphic accelerator driver for windows and can run 1024x768 comfortably in xp. When I was installing ubuntu had quite a bit of trouble with my display and I am still unable to adjust my settings from 800x600x0x0 and there is no hardware acceleration. I visited the intel site and installed the linux drivers with the help of a friend but still no change. I tried adding resolution settings through xconf but they could not be applied even after I added the values. I am probably going about this totally wrong, but I've spent quite a lot of time browsing through forums and still haven't found a solution. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also any other beginner tips that you have would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance, Matt

  I'm trying to deploy an embedded system (NISE 110 by Nexcom) based on the Intel EP80579 (Tolapai) chip. Tolapai apparently integrates controllers for Ethernet etc. on a single chip (Intel homepage). The machine can't get a network connection. Diagnosis as far as I could manage: Drivers drivers from Intel compiled and installed without problems (version 1.0.3-144). Kernel version and Linux distribution (CentOS 5.2, 2.6.18) match the driver's installation instructions. drivers are loaded and show up in lsmod (module names are gcu and iegbe) interfaces eth0 and eth1 show up in ifconfig ifconfig I can bring up the interfaces with fixed IP pinging the interface locally works ifconfig shows flag UP but not RUNNING Link ethtool shows "Link detected: no", "Speed: unknown (65536)" and "Duplex: unknown (255)" Link LED is on on the other side of the cable, ethtool shows "Link detected: yes" and reports a speed of 1000 Mbps, which has allegedly been auto-neogotiated with the problematic device. Network traffic analysis the device does not reply on ARP, ICMP echo or anything else (iptables is down) when trying to send ICMP or DHCP requests, they never reach the other end activity LED is off on the device, on at the other end. I tried the following without any effect: Different cables (2 straight, one crossed), I get the link LED lit up on each. Three different devices on the other end (one PC, one netbook, one router) Fixed ARP table entries on both sides Connecting both network ports of the machine with each other, won't ping through the cable, but will ping locally. Tried straight and crossed cables for that.

• javax.ejb.NoSuchEJBException after redeploying EJBs

  Using Glassfish 3.0.1 ... If I have a web application accessing EJBs in another application remotely, and the remote application containing the EJBs is redeployed, I get a javax.ejb.NoSuchEJBException (see stacktrace below). Shouldn't this work? I can see that the EJB in question was successfully deployed, using the exact same JNDI name. Is there any other way to fix this than to restart the web application? • unexplainable packet drops with 5 ethernet NICs and low traffic on Ubuntu

  I'm stuck on problem where my machine started to drops packets with no sign of ANY system load or high interrupt usage after an upgrade to Ubuntu 12.04. My server is a network monitoring sensor, running Ubuntu LTS 12.04, it passively collects packets from 5 interfaces doing network intrusion type stuff. Before the upgrade I managed to collect 200+GB of packets a day while writing them to disk with around 0% packet loss depending on the day with the help of CPU affinity and NIC IRQ to CPU bindings. Now I lose a great deal of packets with none of my applications running and at very low PPS rate which a modern workstation NIC would have no trouble with. Specs: x64 Xeon 4 cores 3.2 Ghz 16 GB RAM NICs: 5 Intel Pro NICs using the e1000 driver (NAPI). [1] eth0 and eth1 are integrated NICs (in the motherboard) There are 2 other PCI-X network cards, each with 2 Ethernet ports. 3 of the interfaces are running at Gigabit Ethernet, the others are not because they're attached to hubs. On the old system, if it couldn't keep up this is where the drops would be. I drop packets on multiple interfaces just about every second, usually in small increments of 2-4. • Installing drivers for switchable graphics

  I recently bought a laptop that came with Windows 7 64-bit installed. I have some older (16-bit and 32-bit) software that doesn't work with 64-bit Windows, but works just fine with 32-bit. Since I also wanted to get rid of all of the pre-installed spam, I decided to wipe the hard drive and install a fresh copy of Windows 7 32-bit. I can't get the graphics cards working. This laptop uses switchable graphics, an Intel card and a Radeon card. I first tried installing this driver from Intel, which works for the Intel card. Of course, the Radeon card doesn't work with this driver and I need it for some of the newer games I have. I also tried this driver. Windows's device manager will recognize the Radeon card, but it will still use the Intel card. Also, even though that package says it contains the Intel driver, the Intel card still isn't properly recognized by Windows (leaving me with a nasty 800x600 resolution). On top of that, the Catalyst Control Center won't open (saying "The Catalyst Control Center is not supported by the driver version of your enabled graphics adapter") I tried installing HP's driver then installing Intel's driver on top of it. Device manager will then recognize both graphics cards properly. However, the laptop still uses the Intel card. The CCC still won't start (saying the same thing as before) and I can't find any of 'switching' graphics cards. Before formatting, I could right-click the desktop and click "Configure Switchable Graphics" This option hasn't been in the context menu regardless of what driver(s) I've installed. After some research, I found out that this menu entry runs the command "cli.exe Start PowerXpressHybrid" I've tried manually running this command, but I get the same unsupported message from CCC. So, does anyone know how I can get this working? I would like to be able to switch between the Intel and Radeon.   Is there a Generic USB TouchScreen Driver 12.04? Device 03eb:201c I've been looking for 4 days solid (not very skilled) and can't find a solution. I have a generic tablet: C97- Atom N2600 9.7" 2GB 32GB Bluetooth WiFi WebCam Ext.3G Windows 7 Tablet PC Using 12.04 and cannot find a driver. I installed android and the touchscreen works but still lots of other bugs. Oh well, stuck with Windows 7 and not happy about it. Will keep trying, but too much time wasted already. • SQL 2012 Licensing Thoughts

  The only thing more controversial than new Federal Tax plans is new Licensing plans from Microsoft.  In both cases, everyone calculates several numbers.  First, will I pay more or less under this plan?  Second, will my competition pay more or less than now?  Third, will <insert interesting person/company here> pay more or less?  Not that items 2 and 3 are meaningful, that is just how people think. Much like tax plans, the devil is in the details, so lets see how this looks.  Microsoft shows it here: http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/en/us/future-editions/sql2012-licensing.aspx First up is a switch from per-socket to per-core licensing.  Anyone who didn’t see something like this coming should rapidly search for a new line of work because you are not paying attention.  The explosion of multi-core processors has made SQL Server a bargain.  Microsoft is in business to make money and the old per-socket model was not going to do that going forward. Per-core licensing also simplifies virtualization licensing.  Physical Core = Virtual Core, at least for licensing.  Oversubscribe your processors, that’s your lookout.  You still pay for  what is exposed to the VM.  The cool part is you can seamlessly move physical and virtual workloads around and the licenses follow.  The catch is you have to have Software Assurance to make the licenses mobile.  Nice touch there. Let’s have a moment of silence for the late, unlamented, largely ignored Workgroup Edition.  To quote the Microsoft  FAQ:  “Standard becomes our sole edition for basic database needs”.  Considering I haven’t encountered a singe instance of SQL Server Workgroup Edition in the wild, I don’t think this will be all that controversial. As for pricing, it looks like a wash with current per-socket pricing based on four core sockets.  Interestingly, that is the minimum core count Microsoft proposes to swap to transition per-socket to per-core if you are on Software Assurance.  Reading the fine print shows that if you are using more, you will get more core licenses: From the licensing FAQ. 15. How do I migrate from processor licenses to core licenses?  What is the migration path? Licenses purchased with Software Assurance (SA) will upgrade to SQL Server 2012 at no additional cost. EA/EAP customers can continue buying processor licenses until your next renewal after June 30, 2012.   Ubuntu 12.04 LTS is supported for 5 years, and will get some core updates for 2 years : I guess those updates include the kernel, graphic drivers and X11. But will these updates be optionnal, or not ? I would like to stick with my present version of the kernel and X11, because I'm using an AMD/ATI graphic card with fglrx driver, but according to this link, support for ATI HD 2000/3000/4000 cards will be dropped soon.
