• Undo history broken in Eclipse?

  Is Eclipse's undo history broken? I have been using 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, and now 3.4 versions for the last few years and was always able to undo only about 20-25 changes back in history. This nonsense has cost me some lost modifications countless times when trying to revert some recent changes (if you reply with "you should commit to svn every 25 changes", I'm going to unleash dragons on you). There's a setting in Preferences-Editors-Text Editors-Undo history size and I set it to 1000 but it didn't help anything. I'm mostly using Eclipse with the Perl E.P.I.C. in the Perl Perspective, if it matters. So guys, what's the problem and how do I fix it?

• Is my TFS2010 backup/restore hosed?

  Hi all, I recently set up a sandbox TFS to test TFS-specific features without interfering with the production TFS. I was happy I did this sooner than I thought--I hadn't been backing up the encryption key from SSRS and upon restoring the reporting databases, they remained inactive, requiring initialization that could only come from applying the encryption key. Said encryption key was lost when I nuked the partition after backing up the TFS databases. The only option I seemed to have is to delete the encrypted data. I'm fine with this, since there wasn't much in there to begin with, however once they're deleted I'm not quite sure how to configure TFS to recognize a new installation of these services while using the restored versions of everything else. Unfortunately, the TFS help file doesn't seem to account for this state though. Is there a way to essentially rebuild the reporting and analysis databases? Or are they gone forever?

What if I have a n states system, how would I spray some "dt" in the F matrix?

• C# Custom Control Properties load before Load and arrays are empties

  Hello, I made a custom control with custom properties. When I modify these properties in the "Form.cs [Design]", I need stuff to happens (it fill some arrays and modify the look of the control), so I call a function within the "set" of the property. All of this works good. My problem is that when I run the program with my custom control, it seems that properties "set" is called, which will call the function, but then, my arrays seems now to have lost all their values and the function use these arrays, but now because they are all empty, it crashes due to NullException blahblahblah. It also seems that properties "set" is called before the control Load (which I guess is called only when it is added to my Form, and not when the Form load). So question is, why does my arrays become empty once I try to run the Form and is there an event that is called before that when the Form load? Thanks

  I have innoDB table using numerous foreign keys, but we just want to look up some basic info out of it. I've done some research but still lost. 1) How can I tell if my host has Sphinx installed already? I don't see it as an option for table storage method (i.e. innodb, myisam). 2) Zend_Search_Lucene, responsive enough for AJAX functionality of millions of records? 3) Mirror my innoDB with a myisam? Make every innodb transaction end with a write to the myisam, then use 1:1 lookups? How would I do this automagically? This should make MyISAM ACID-compliant and free(er) from corruption no? 4) PostgreSQL fulltext queries don't even look like SQL to me wtf, I don't have time to learn a new SQL syntax I need noob options 5) ???????????????????? This is high volume site on a decently-equipped VPS Thanks very much for any ideas.

• Desktop PC Raid 5 or JBOD?

  I have a desktop PC and I want to get alot of space for movies, music, and pictures. I probably will not be deleting files. I am running Windows 7 on my system. It is kind of silly I just want the physical drives to be labeled as a single letter drive. And probably map my video, documents, pictures and music on that single drive. The main reason I considered RAID 5 because I would be lazy to get the data I lost and hopefully that if I get a new drive, it would rebuild it. So my question is which would be better? A second question is can I get RAID card that has only 2 internal connectors and still do RAID 5? or do I have to get a RAID card that has 4 internal connectors.

  I have a template that shows a filter form and below it a list of the result records. I bind the form to the request so that the filter form sets itself to the options the user submitted when the results are returned. I also use pagination. Using the code in the pagination documentation means that when the user clicks for the next page, the form data is lost. What is the best way of dealing with pagination and filtering in this way? Passing the querystring to the paginiation links. Change the pagination links to form buttons and therefore submit the filter form at the same time, but this assumes that the user hasn't messed about with the filter options. • Converting between unsigned and signed int safely

  I have an interface between a client and a server where a client sends (1) an unsigned value, and (2) a flag which indicates if value is signed/unsigned. Server would then static cast unsigned value to appropriate type. I later found out that this is implementation defined behavior and I've been reading about it but I couldn't seem to find an appropriate solution that's completely safe? I've read about type punning, pointer conversions, and memcpy. Would simply using a union type work? A UnionType containing signed and unsigned int, along with the signed/unsigned flag. For signed values, client sets the signed part of the union, and server reads the signed part. Same for the unsigned part. Or am I completely misunderstanding something? Side question: how do I know the specific behavior in this case for a specific scenario, e.g. windriver diab on PPC? I'm a bit lost on how to find such documentation.

• .NET SerialPort.Read skipps bytes

  Solution Reading the data byte wise via "port.ReadByte" is too slow, the problem is inside the SerialPort class. i changed it to reading bigger chunks via "port.Read" and there are now no buffer overruns. although i found the solution myself, writing it down helped me and maybe someone else has the same problem and finds this via google... (how can i mark it as answered?) EDIT 2 by setting port.ReadBufferSize = 2000000; i can delay the problem for ~30 seconds. so it seems, .Net really is too slow... since my application is not that critical, i just set the buffer to 20MB, but i am still interested in the cause. EDIT i just tested something i had not thought of before (shame on me): port.ErrorReceived += (object self, SerialErrorReceivedEventArgs se_arg) => { Console.Write("| Error: {0} | ", System.Enum.GetName(se_arg.EventType.GetType(), se_arg.EventType)); }; and it seems that i have an overrun. Is the .Net implementation too slow for 500k or is there an error on my side? Original Question i built a very primitive oszilloscope (avr, which sends adc data over uart to an ftdi chip). On the pc side i have a WPF Programm that displays this data. The Protokoll is: two sync bytes (0xaffe) - 14 data bytes - two sync bytes - 14 data bytes - ... i use 16bit values, so inside the 14 data bytes are 7 channels (lsb first). I verified the uC Firmware with hTerm, and it does send and receive everything correct. But, if i try to read the data with C#, sometimes some bytes are lost. The oszilloscop programm is a mess, but i created a small sample application, which has the same symptoms. I added two extension methods to a) read one byte from the COM Port and ignore -1 (EOF) and b) wait for the sync pattern. The sample programm first syncs onto the data stream by waiting for (0xaffe) and then compares the received bytes with the expected values. the loop runs a few times until an assert failed message pops up. I could not find anything about lost bytes via google, any help would be appreciated. • Is there a buffer size attached to stdout?

  I am trying to find some information on data limits related to stdout on Windows. I can't seem to find the information on MSDN. Is there a limit to how much data can be written to stdout? If so, what happens if the limit is reached? Is the data lost? If stdout is redirected (for example, by launching the process from .Net and using the ProcessStartInfo.RedirectStandardOutput property), does that have any effect on how much data can be written? As I read from the stdout stream in the calling process, does that affect the limitations? Are these limits related in any way to named pipes?

• Session being reset when using sub-domain.

  Hi, I'm trying to use sub-domains in my ASP.NET website but I'm coming across a few problems with the session being reset. I've edited my hosts file to have 'localhost', 'one.localhost' and 'two.localhost'. I can go to any of these URLs and do what I need to do and login to my system. The session mode is defined as follows in the web.config: I'm using SQLServer as the website will be ran as a webfarm. What I'm finding is when I click something that causes a postback all the session is lost and a new session id is created, when this occurs my website is now 'localhost' rather than the logged in 'one.localhost' for example. Does anyone know what might be causing this? Cheers

• UISwitch text not showing on device

  Hi, I have a screen with several UISwitch controls. On my iPhone simulator this screen works correctly and The Switch text shows as On/Off. Different on my testing device (iPod Touch). Here the text seems to get lost and I only get "1" (instead of "On") and "0" (instead of "Off"). I don't know where the iPod Touch is different and why it's not showing correctly. Were not the databases themselves the units of billing? I mean, I thought that servers were just like logical containers and you were charged per number and size of databases. How servers are billed?   Hello, I'm stumbling in the data wilderness and feel very lost, so i am asking for help. I have done some database apps in VS (C#) winforms for some time, wpf lately. These are small to medium apps (embedded dbs, a bit of sql server), like a restaurants, cash registers and similar. (15-20 tables) Until now, i have done all my datasets by drag and drop in Visual Studio designer. I spent weeks on web trying to find some complete solution how to write complete solution with typed datasets by hand from scratch (DAL, B.Objects) in hope to learn some architecture patterns along the way, but without success. So, finally question. Can someone recommend me what to learn for this type of applications, maybe move away from datasets , use some ORM ( maybe overkill, i dont know). Point me in some direction please.
