• Which video format(s) should a webapp serve?

  I need to put up a few videos on a Webapp and I'm a bit lost. My requirements are: DRM is not a concern at all it should work on the iPhone (and iPad) and on the main browsers (Safari, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera). it is not a problem at all if the video doesn't play on Linux (because it's a video/screencast of a Windows/OS X software targetted at, well, Windows and OS X users) it is not a problem at all if it also works on Linux (I'm a Linux user myself) Can a unique format be served (like H.264) and play without any additional work on my part or do I need to convert the videos to different formats and have the webapp serve different video formats depending on the browser used? Should I use the "video" tag of HTML5 when I detect an HTML5 capable browser? What's the "safest" bet here? I take it that Flash is out of the equation seen that iPhone/iPad is a requirement.

• After .load() Reset Textbox with User Entered Value using JavaScript and jQuery

  My function below calls a partial view after a user enters a filter-by string into the text box '#DocId'. When the user is done typing, the partial view is displayed with filtered data. Since my textbox needs to be in the partial view, when user is done entering a filter-by string and is shown the filtered data, the textbox is reset and the user entered data is lost. How can I set the value of the textbox back to the user entered string after the partial view is displayed?   Just as the question asks. I have an Esri map control and want to add a Rastor image to the control in WPF and don't know how to do it. I see that I can add layers to the Map control, but is there a way to add a Raster image to a map control? • Resources/Teaching ideas to teach computers to kids

  A small initiative from my work place plans to teach very basic computers to not so fortunate kids. I was looking for some very basic topics/resources. These kids are very young and have not seen/worked with a computer before. The fun factor should not be lost and hence I don't want it to be rigorous, just plain, what is computer, keyboard, mouse, browser, where to look for what (google.com) and so on. Has any-one done this sort of thing before, if yes, could you point me to some resources.

  Hello everyone, I want to count the number of accounts from the resulting table generated from this code. This way, I know how many people liked blue at one time. Select Distinct PEOPLE.FullName, PEOPLE.FavColor From PEOPLE Where FavColor='Blue' Lets say this is a history accounting of what people said their favorite color when they were asked so there may be multiple records of the same full name if asked again at a much later time; hence the distinct. The code I used may not be reusable in your answer so feel free to use what you think can work. I am sure I found a possible solution to my problem using declare and if statements but I lost that page... so I am left with no solution. However, I think there is a way to do it without using conditionals which is what I am asking and rather have. Thanks. • Using jQuery, how to modify text outside of tags?

  Given a string of text that is both adjacent to a span and inside of a div, what are some methods to modify just that text, leaving the surrounding HTML intact? For example: <div id="my-div">modify this text<span id="my-span"></span></div> I have tried things like $('#my-div').html(function(i, elem){blah;}); but this seems to cause the span to be deleted and a new span to be added, because some styling is lost. I realize that it would be best to wrap the text string in its own HTML tags before applying client-side code, but that is out of my control.

• re-open background application via notification item

  I got an app with tabs and a notification bar entry, when I send it to background (click on home button) and try to re-open the application via click on the notification bar, the app restarts (last selected tab is lost). When I hold the home button if the application is in the background and select it from there or click the app's icon on the homescreen, the previous state is restored per default (the correct tab is selected) IMO the intent of the notification is wrong, but I'm not sure how to fix it. In short: How to get a background application back to foreground when I click the notification entry? thx!

We are running multiple webshops in a SAAS application where it is possible that users are adding products, buying products and paying for products online, and so on... When deploying we want to do this as clean as possible, so that not payments or orders or other critical data will be lost. We have a deployment scenario set up using phing (amazing tool!) but we are missing one crucial step being the "locking of the live site" while deploying. What is a possible way to lock a live site and bring it back online after deploying?

  I need to create a generic type, but I do not know the type at compile time. I would like to do this: Type t = typeof(whatever); var list = new List<t> this won't compile, because t is not a valid type. But it does know all about a valid type. Is there a way to dynamically create the generic list from a System.Type like this? I may need reflection, and that's ok, I am just a bit lost here.

  I have a list management appliaction that stores its data in a many-to-many relationship database. I.E. A note can be in any number of lists, and a list can have any number of notes. I also can export this data to and XML file and import it in another instance of my app for sharing lists between users. However, this is based on a legacy system where the list to note relationship was one-to-many (ideal for XML). Now a note that is in multiple lists is esentially split into two identical rows in the DB and all relation between them is lost. Question: How can I represent this many-to-many relationship in a simple, standard file format? (Preferably XML to maintain backwards compatibility)

  Hi, i mostly do CSS and php so i'm kind'a lost here, so no idea if this is possible the way i want it anyway, this is it: I have this code <html:textarea rows="10" cols="70" property="thankYouMessage" /> And i want this textarea to render an id of "textareaID" and a name like "textareaname" how can i go about this?... if i use styleID, the page just won't load anymore... i need to apply some css to that markup so that's the thing. Weird thing is when I include the images in my project it does work, I however dont want to do that since my point for using an xml file is so that it would be lost since you'd have to rebuild the program anyway after a change.

Basically, each page has tabs, and all are navigational via drop down at the top, with each 'tab' being available in the drop down. Currently I'm able to text-link, but only within the page I'm on, and I'm just lost on the getting it to work correctly from page to page. • What encoding to use for exporting to CSV?

  I'm developing a java app that exports data to CSV files, intended to be opened in Excel by end users. We just noticed that the export function uses Java's platform default encoding. This causes umlaut characters to be lost and unit test to fail on the build server (which is configured to have US-ASCII as its platform default encoding exactly to catch such potential problems). The question is: which would be the best encoding to use? How does Excel determine what encoding to use? Does it use something platform-specific that presumably matches Java's platform default? I'm currently leaning towards hardcoding Cp1252 - that should cover the target machines (the deployment environment is actually specified) and would fix the test problem. From googling around, Excel does not seem to handle UTF-8 well, so that's out, and sticking to the platform default encoding would require some sort of workaround hack for the tests.

  I am having a weird Situation with my DataConext. All My code is in C# I have a DLL project for my data access layer and business Layer which and Winforms project for my UI layer. My Data access Layer's Namespace is xxx.Data this is where have my xxx.dbml I also have xxx.Data.BusinessObjects name space of course for my business object in that project In my UI Layer I have these namespaces xxxApp(for Forms), xxxApp.Controls (For Controls) I have lost scope of the DataContext, it was accessible now when I do a Rebuild Solution I sometimes get compile errors saying for example: Error 34 'xxx.Data.xxxDataContext' does not contain a definition for 'SubmitChanges' and no extension method 'SubmitChanges' accepting a first argument of type 'xxx.Data.xxxDataContext' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) Also intelisense doesn't recognize the methods and table classes from my xxxDataContext anymore I can access all object fine when I am in the DLL project but now in the Winforms project this is very strange. If anyone can help me out I would be extremely grateful!

  A while back I heard on a podcast about a site listing "10 applications to write that will make you a better programmer." I'm desperate to find where this is, or at the very least a decent list from someone here. The thing is, I've been writing code for about 8 years now, and it's my passion. Very few things make me happier than getting lost in some C# or Python. But I've spent the last 2 years in a job that doesn't allow me much time to do what I love. Now everyone knows that the best way to keep your coding sword sharp is to use it, and I've noticed recently that mine is getting dull. Does anyone have any suggestions on some simple programs to help flex my coding muscle? I'm one of those odd few who actually likes writing CRUD applications, so stuff like that would be nice, too.

• Restore history and current page on resuming webview

  I have a webview that I use to navigate from page to page. I have implemented go back and go forward. My problem is that when I return to the webview after visiting another activity, the history is lost i.e. the webview starts again on the first page. How do I code it so that after I call finish on the webview to swap to another activity on returning to the webview, the WebBackForwardList is restored and I am taken to the page I was on when I left the webview? I have tried overriding onSaveInstanceState and onRestoreInstanceState using webview.save/restoreState(bundle) but with no success. I have achieved returning to the last page by saving the last url in preferences, but have been unable to restore the entire history.

  So my situation is: I have a 2 modules that have the same structure like that: module Module1 class Config def fee_rate 2 end end end So, say, Module2 would have class Config with the method fee_rate, just with a different value (those are actually implemented in a rails engine, but it shouldn't matter) and then my model can use either Module1 or Module2 to get the fee rate value like that: def config @config ||= "#{module_name.titleize}::Config".constantize.new @config end def get_value config.get_fee * some_other_value end What I'm trying to test is if get_fee function was called on the correct class: "#{model.module_name.titleize}::Config".constantize.any_instance.expects(:get_fee).at_least_once model.get_value and on the line when I call get_value I get the following error - undefined method `*' for nil:NilClass. I'm completely lost now, so I'd appreciate any help and ideas.

  Hi, I've not used basic SQLCommands for a while and I'm trying to pass a param to a sproc and the run it. However when I run the code I get a "Not Supplied" error.   The question is a little complex. The problem here is to get rid of duplicates and save the unique elements of array into another array with their original sequence. • Outlook AppointmentItem - How do I programmatically add RTF to its Body?

  I would like to set the Body of an AppointmentItem to a string of RTF that contains an embedded image. Setting Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.AppointmentItem.Body results in the RTF appearing as-is in the appointment. I have tried using Redemption which wraps the appointment and exposes an RTFBody property, but the RTF formatting (including the image) is lost. In this example (which doesn't have an embedded image) the RTF appears in the document as-is.
