  • Upgrading mysql from 4.1.22 to 5.0

    - by Arsenal
Hi, I'm trying to upgrade our company's 4.1.22 version of MySQL to 5. I'm using sudo yum --enablerepo=centosplus upgrade mysql* but keep getting an error of conflicted files with the 4.1 version. Does that mean there really isn't any other way than uninstalling 4.1 and installing 5.0? I have read that using the yum upgrade command should work however... Thanks in advance!

  • Re-Convert timestamp DATE back to original format (when editing) PHP MySQL

    - by Jess
Ok so I have managed to get the format of the date presented in HTML (upon display) to how I want (dd/mm/yyy)...However, the user also can change the date via a form. So this is how it's setup as present. Firstly, the conversion from YYYY-MM-DD to DD/MM/YYYY and then display in HTML: $timestamp = strtotime($duedate); echo date('d/m/Y', $timestamp); Now when the user selects to update the due date, the value already stored value is drawn up and presented in my text field (using exactly the same code as above).. All good so far. But when my user runs the update script (clicks submit), the new due date is not being stored, and in my DB its seen as '0000-00-00'. I know I need to convert it back to the correct format that MySQL wants to have it in, in order for it to be saved, but I'm not sure on how to do this. This is what I have so far in my update script (for the due date): $duedate = $_POST['duedate']; $timestamp = strtotime($duedate); date('Y/m/d', $timestamp); $query = "UPDATE films SET filmname= '".$filmname."', duedate= '".$duedate; Can somebody please point me in the right direction to have the new date, when processed, converted back to the accepted format by MySQL. I appreciate any help given! Thanks.

  • MySQL index building performance

    - by Christian
I tried to build an index over a two columns of a 30,000,000 entry database. I canceled the process after ~60hr as it didn't seem to work. For some reason MySQL takes only 22 mb ram instead of using the RAM fully. Is index building an operation that needs no Ram or is there some way to tell MySQL to use more RAM to be faster?

  • Mysql ninja tricks

    - by alexn
Hi, what are your mysql ninja tricks? What features are extra special? I'm starting with ORDER BY FIELD which enables you to sort in a particular order, like this: SELECT url FROM customer ORDER BY FIELD(customer.priority, 1, 2, 3, 0) Features like this is hard to find in the mysql documentation. Bring it!

  • python dict update diff

    - by adam
    Does python have any sort of built in functionality of notifying what dictionary elements changed upon dict update? For example I am looking for some functionality like this: >>> a = {'a':'hamburger', 'b':'fries', 'c':'coke'} >>> b = {'b':'fries', 'c':'pepsi', 'd':'ice cream'} >>> a.diff(b) {'c':'pepsi', 'd':'ice cream'} >>> a.update(b) >>> a {'a':'hamburger', 'b':'fries', 'c':'pepsi', 'd':'ice cream'} I am looking to get a dictionary of the changed values as shown in the result of a.diff(b)

  • Partitioning mySQL tables that has foreign keys?

    - by Industrial
Hi! What would be an appropriate way to do this, since mySQL obviously doesnt enjoy this. To leave either partitioning or the foreign keys out from the database design would not seem like a good idea to me. I'll guess that there is a workaround for this? Update 03/24: http://opendba.blogspot.com/2008/10/mysql-partitioned-tables-with-trigger.html http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1537219/how-to-handle-foreign-key-while-partitioning Thanks!

I have set a JDBCRealm for web-app inside tomcat, and when I reload it I got this from tomcat: SEVERE: A web application registered the JBDC driver [com.mysql.jdbc.Driver] but failed to unregister it when the web application was stopped. To prevent a memory leak, the JDBC Driver has been forcibly unregistered. I use tomcat 6.0.24, with MySQL Connector 5.1.10,,,

  • MySQL vs PostgreSQL for Web Applications

    - by cnu
I am working on a web application using Python (Django) and would like to know whether MySQL or PostgreSQL would be better when deploying for production. In one podcast Joel said that he had some problems with MySQL and the data wasn't consistent. I would like to know whether someone had any such problems. Also when it comes to performance which can be easily tweaked?

  • Ruby: intelligent patch/update

    - by Shyam
Hi, After being blown away by the greatness of irb and rails console, I am loving the dynamical parts of the language more and more. Now, I wonder if it would be possible for a Ruby application to update itself on-the-fly (if the write permission allows it). Can a Ruby application fetch an update and refresh itself? I have seen this functionality a lot in Apple applications and I know updates and fixes are something you must anticipate for when deploying an application. Thank you for your feedback, comments and answers!

  • SQL Server 2008 and MySQL Daily Backups

    - by Tyler
Is there a quick and easy way to backup both SQL Server 2008 and MySQL, all their databases? Right now I have a batch script that runs, but I have to manually add a database each and every time, and I'm sick of maintaining it. So I want to set it up to backup all SQL Server and then all MySQL, I dont care if its two different solutions, just want the ability to backup all the databases without having to type them in. Thank you.

  • Does Hibernate's GenericGenerator cause update and saveOrUpdate to always insert instead of update?

    - by Derek Mahar
    When using GenericGenerator to generate unique identifiers, do Hibernate session methods update() and saveOrUpdate() always insert instead of update table rows, even when the given object has an existing identifier (where the identifier is also the table primary key)? Is this the correct behaviour? public class User { private String id; private String name; public User(String id, String name) { this.id = id; this.name = name; } @GenericGenerator(name="generator", strategy="guid")@Id @GeneratedValue(generator="generator") @Column(name="USER_ID", unique=true, nullable=false) public String getId() { return this.id; } public void setId(String id) { this.id = id; } @Column(name="USER_NAME", nullable=false, length=20) public String getUserName() { return this.userName; } public void setUserName(String userName) { this.userName = userName; } } class UserDao extends AbstractDaoHibernate { public void updateUser(final User user) { HibernateTemplate ht = getHibernateTemplate(); ht.saveOrUpdate(user); } }

  • Generating MySQL UPDATE statements containing BLOB image data

    - by Bob
I'm trying to write an SQL statement that will generate an SQL script that will update a BLOB field with an IMAGE being selected from the database. This is what I have: select concat( 'UPDATE `IMAGE` SET THUMBNAIL = ', QUOTE( THUMBNAIL ), ' WHERE ID = ', ID, ';' ) as UPDATE_STATEMENT from IMAGE; In the above, THUMBNAIL is a BLOB field containing raw image data. When I run the resulting script I get the following error: ERROR at line 2: Unknown command '\\'. I first tried this without the QUOTE() function, like so: select concat( 'UPDATE `IMAGE` SET THUMBNAIL = \'', THUMBNAIL, '\' WHERE ID = ', ID, ';' ) as UPDATE_STATEMENT from IMAGE; Running the resulting script produces this error: ERROR at line 2: Unknown command '\0'. What is the proper function to apply to this BLOB field in the select, so the UPDATE statements will work? If context is required, I'm looking to migrate thumbnails generated on one server to another server for certain image IDs only. I would use mysqldump, but I don't want to clobber the entire table. Any help is greatly appreciated!

  • Explicit disable MySQL query cache in some parts of program

    - by jack
In a Django project, some cronjob programs are mainly used for administrative or analysis purposes, e.g. generating site usage stats, rotating user activities log, etc. We probably do not hope MySQL to cache queries in those programs to save memory usage and improve query cache efficiency. Is it possible to turn off MySQL query cache explicitly in those programs while keep it enabled for other parts including all views.py?
