  • Running Untangle on Virtualbox as a Transparent Bridge

    I am setting up Untangle in a Sun VirtualBox VM. I plan on using this machine as a transparent bridge to filter and monitor traffic on my network. I'm not sure how to configure the network adapters for the virtual machine under the Virtualbox's "Devices" menu so that it will function as a transparent bridge. I guess what I'm asking is, should both adapter 1 & 2 be set as Bridged adapters or what? Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • mono: application not running when web.config in subfolder

    I run asp.net on mono. I wanted to run blogengine: http://www.dotnetblogengine.net/ I downloaded, put it in /var/www/blogengine, on the console went to /var/www/blogengine and started xsp2. I went to http://localhost:8080, and it ran without problems. Then I stopped xsp2, went to /var/www and started xsp2. I went to http://localhost:8080/blogengine It ended with a strange error: The section <blogProvider> can't be defined in this configuration file (the allowed definition context is 'MachineToApplication'). (/var/www/blogengine/Web.Config line 9) The problem seems to be that it stops working as soon as the xsp2 root folder is anything else than the application root folder... Do I have to config anything ? Or what else is wrong ?

  • Windows Server 2008 CMD Task Schedule not running

    I have a BAT/CMD file that when run from the command prompt runs completely. When I run it through the Task Scheduler it partially runs. Here is a copy of the file cd\sqlbackup ren Apps_Backup*.* Apps.Bak ren Apps_Was_Backup*.* Apps_Was.Bak xcopy /Y c:\sqlbackup\*.bak c:\sqlbackup\11\*.bak xcopy /y c:\sqlbackup\*.bak \\igweb01\c$\sqlbackup\*.bak Move /y c:\sqlbackup\*.bak "\\igsrv01\d$\sql backup\" The last two lines do not run when the task scheduler calls it. But again, work when manually run from the command line. All the local sever commands run but when it comes to the last two lines where it goes to another server then it does not work.

    i tried make a logon script to map some network drives since it need more than homedir only but when i apply to script to "logon" in a GPO on server 2008 it doesnt run it on the pc when i logon. when i make a Gpresult -r it show as applied but it never ran the script. i tried run the script manual and that works fine. In Event Viewer in windows 7 it show an error "Event ID 1129" with this text in the general tap: The processing of Group Policy failed because of lack of network connectivity to a domain controller. This may be a transient condition. A success message would be generated once the machine gets connected to the domain controller and Group Policy has succesfully processed. If you do not see a success message for several hours, then contact your administrator.

  • Ubuntu Server running VNC

    I have access to four computers: 1 Ubuntu Server desktop (Version 10.04) 1 Mac Mini (Snow Leopard) 1 Windows desktop (Windows 7) 1 Windows laptop (Windows Vista) The first three will always be on the home network. My goal is to SSH from the laptop into the server and be able, through VNC (or another remote desktop software), to control the windows and mac computers. The goal of this would be a slightly heightened network security over using VNC to directly access the mac or windows desktop. I have successfully used SSH to connect to the server, but have not been able to successfully implement the remote desktop connection. I would appreciate help doing so. Here's what I've done so far: As per instructions here: http://www.stuartellis.eu/articles/vnc-on-linux/ I installed the following: vnc4server – the main VNC server software vnc-java – enables access from Web browsers with Java support xvnc4viewer – a basic VNC viewer I then set up a password using the vncpasswd command. To attempt to connect to the mac, I followed directions I found in a thread at superuser. com and went to "System PreferencesSharing" and enabled "Screen Sharing". Subsequently, I tried entering the following commands into Ubuntu: vncviewer mac_ip_address::5904 vncviewer mac_ip_address:0 vncviewer mac_ip_address:1 They all returned the following: VNC Viewer Free Edition 4.1.1 for X - built Apr 9 2010 18:41:55 Copyright (C) 2002-2005 RealVNC Ltd. See http ://www .realvnc. com for information on VNC. vncviewer: unable to open display "" I'm sure I'm missing something important, but I'm not sure what it is.   • Webmin / Virtualmin running php as www-data, is locked out of viewing .htaccess and writing

    I've asked this on the virtualmin forums, but haven't had any help from there. Recently, "something" happened and it seems that the apache service has gone a bit weird. What it does: it runs all apache traffic as www-data and sometimes spawns the php5-cgi process as www-data, this is a problem because all the domain users own their directories and default permissions don't let www-data write to these folders (file uploads are dead) or read .htaccess (permalinks are broken in wordpress). I've googled this for about a week straight now, tried pretty much everything I could find and achieved nothing. The only thing that I think might actually be the cause of all this is this page: http:// - i.imgur.com/NYW3x.png (got shut down by the spam filter) So I figured if I set it to "default", this might magically start working again, but all it does is "crash" apache (all websites timeout). I figure it's something to do with the "mpm" module or something, but I can't find anything relevant in the settings to modify for it to work. Can someone please point me in the right direction? On this I have configured SenderID + SPF milter, by referring to http://www.postfix.org/MILTER_README.html The command that I used is as follows: ./sid-filter -u postfix -p inet:10027@localhost -l Following are my settings in main.cf file: #Milter support for smtpd mail smtpd_milters = inet:localhost:10027, inet:localhost:10028 # Milters for non-SMTP mail. non_smtpd_milters = inet:localhost:10027, inet:localhost:10028 milter_default_action = reject # Postfix . 2.6 #milter_protocol = 6 # 2.3 . Postfix . 2.5 milter_protocol = 2 Now I have this observation: One of the postfix that is setup on AWS CentOS 5.5 is working fine and is able to receive mails on defined mx record.   • Running emacs in GNU Screen overrides .emacs settings for [home] key binding in FreeBSD 8.2

    If I use the following .emacs file, I am able to go to the beginning/end of the current line using the home/end keys as I would expect. (keyboard-translate ?\C-h ?\C-?)     There are 5 steps in this job. First job is an SSIS Package store, second to fifth are file system jobs. We configured all jobs to use Windows Authentication. Under Run As, we specified a user account which was created under SecurityCredentials and SQL Server AgentProxiesSSIS Package execution. The job runs without any problems with this user account. We then proceeded to configure the job to use a service account instead. Service account was specified under SecurityCredentials and SQL Server AgentProxiesSSIS Package Execution.     When I run Java from a Windows .cmd file (Vista 32-bit here), the Java command causes the batch file to stop executing additional commands. For example, this is a simple test.cmd file: java java This should cause Java to print its help message twice. However when I run it in cmd.exe, I get this: C:\>test C:\>java Usage: java [-options] class [args...] (to execute a class) or java [-options] -jar jarfile [args...] (to execute a jar file) where options include: -client to select the "client" VM -server to select the "server" VM ... C:\> The batch file simply exits when Java exits. What's going on here?

  • SQL Server 2005 jobs running twice in a row - using LiteSpeed

    Howdy! I have a SQL server (2005) backing up to a network share, who has a group of maintenance plans setup through LiteSpeed to backup different DBs. They were just set up to run two sub plans on different schedules for full/diff backups and did that just fine for a couple of months. Then I added "Clean Up" task to the subplans. Ever since that point, the backup creates another bak right after the first bak job is completed. I removed the clean up item from the subplan, and it still creates two baks when ran. Both the SQL Activity Monitor and the machine's windows application log show just one job being executed. I did this same thing to a couple of other servers backing up to the same location, and they are behaving correctly. Thoughts?

    I'm trying to install a VB6 Windows program that uses OLEDB to access VFP tables to run under Wine 1.0.1 on Ubuntu 9.10. Wine is configured to Windows version Windows XP. The program install ran okay, and I used winetricks to install MDAC 2.8 and JET 4.0 sp7. I also installed Microsoft's vfpoledb and vfpodbc drivers. The application starts and displays an error message, item cannot be found in the collection corresponding to the requested name or ordinal. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this?

  • SMTP server (IIS) is running but can't test it with telnet

    I have a Windows 2003 web edition server that I can't seem to get the SMTP relay working. BT4 shows port 25 open. When I try use telnet to test it on my desktop I get: Connecting To XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX...Could not open connection to the host, on port 25: Connect failed. From the server I get: Microsoft Telnet> o 127.0.0.1 25 Connecting To 127.0.0.1... Connection to host lost. There isn't anything useful in the logs. Any ideas?

I've created a user in the user group (let's call it apache), and set the user to run as in the services pane, but then I am unable to start the service (probably not enough permission to bind to port 80). What is the minimum privileges needed to run apache on windows 2008, or what should I do to allow the user apache to bind apache 2.2 to port 80? Thanks!

  • Running SSL locally on a hosts redirected domain name with Ubuntu and Apache

    I recently made some changes to my Ubuntu computer so that a domain name resolved to my local copy of Apache. I edited /etc/hosts and added 127.0.0.1 thisbit.example.com Then set up a VirtualHost for the responses I wishes to create. That all works fine and my testing is now shooting on ahead without harm or risk tot he production server. Now for my next trick I need to test the authentication and so need to do this with HTTPS Basically https://auth.example.com needs to work on my PC without the SSL causing an issue which I imagine would be the case as I am clearly not the true https://auth.example.com but for the basis of this exercise I need to pretend that I am. Now it might be that the Apps I'm testing don't worry about checking the certificate. (Many are in Java which I'm no expert with). What gotchas am I likely to encounter and what is the best way of not letting my own hacks spoil my testing? I'm guessing the place to start is to enable SSL with Apcahe... I've never done that before as it has never come up before.

  • Running a small IPTV station

    I'm looking to run an iptv station for my dorm. I know I can serve multicast so that's not a problem. The station will serve out podcasts and other cc licensed content. The target endpoint is xbmc- a media center. So far I know that I need to serve an rtp stream over udp that's streaming an mpeg-4 avc main or high profile with aac ( or ac3 ?) audio. I've had some luck using vlc with vlm to stream but it seems limited. What are my other options?  Everything has to run on Linux- hopefully open source. How can I use playlists and not live streams? What are my software options?
