  • Find a non-case-sensitive text string within a range of cells

    I've got a bit of a problem to solve in Excel, and I'm not quite sure how to go about doing it. I've done a few searches online, and haven't really found any formulas that seem to be useful. Here's the situation (simplified just a bit, for the purpose of this question): I have data in columns A-E. I need to match data in the cells in A and B, with data in C-E, and return TRUE or FALSE to column F. Return TRUE if: - The string in A is found within any string in C-E. OR - The string in B is found within any string in C-E. Otherwise, return FALSE. The strings must be exact matches for whole or partial strings within the range, but the matching function must be case-insensitive. I've taken a screenshot of an example sheet for reference. I'm fairly sure I'll need to use IF or on the outermost layer of the formula, probably followed by OR. Then, for the arguments to OR, I'm expecting there will be some use of IFERROR involved. But what I'm at a loss for is the function I could most efficiently use to handle the text string searches. VLOOKUP is very limited in this regard, I think. It may be workable to do whole-string against whole-string comparisons, but I'm fairly certain it won't return accurate results for partial string matches. FIND and SEARCH appear limited to only single-target searches, and are also case-sensitive. I suppose I could use UPPER or LOWER to force case-insensitivity in the search, but I still need something that can do accurate partial matching and search a specified range of cells. Is there any function, or combination of functions, that could work here? Ideally, I want to do this with a straight Excel formula. I'm not at all familiar with VBScript or similar tools, nor do I have time to learn it for this project.

  • Why does Windows 7 always automatically change the input or keyboard language?

    I am wondering why Windows 7 always automatically changes my input or keyboard language. I've a notebook with an integrated QWERTY keyboard English (United States). Traveling, I use that one but, additionally, I've my own as well as a much better keyboard at home which is a QWERTZ keyboard German (Germany). Thus, being at home, I'd like to use my QWERTZ keyboard. Unfortunately, Windows 7 does not play along at this one. Every time, I start up my notebook, it is usually set to English (United States) but that's not the problem. In case, I'd use my notebook QWERTY keyboard English (United States), that's fine. However, if I start up my notebook and I'd like to use my QWERTZ keyboard German (Germany), I usually press ALT + Left Shift in order to switch from English (United States) to German (Germany) and Windows 7 switches the input language but only for the program that is currently open. If my input language is set to German (Germany) and I, e.g., open NotePad, Windows 7 automatically switches my input language to English (United States). This is very annoying since I've to change the input or keyboard language to German (Germany) every time I open up a new program. Why doesn't Windows 7 stay with one input language if I changed it manually by pressing ALT + Left Shift? Why doesn't the manual change of the input or keyboard language apply for the whole Windows 7? Why does it only affect the currently opened program? Since I've two keyboards with two different layouts, I seriously need to have both of the keyboards languages installed. I tried both of the below settings in order to find a solution for my problem. Currently, I am using the first option, two input languages.     Possible Duplicate: How do I change the Respond To for Group Email adresses in Notes 6.5 When I send an email from a group mail box the email shows my email address as the sender. I would like to hide my email and only show my name. I am using Notes 6.5. Could you please advise if there is a way to set up my client to do this. I want this so the receiver responds to the group email not my personal email as it may be that I am not the one to do the fillow up to the response. There are 10 people in the group email.

  • Find which config file Apache uses to find virtual host

    I have a rather complicated Apache setup: some config files have to be manually written and some have to be automatically generated. So far, I've had no problems. But now, I've just tried to set a site at: newsubdomain.mydomain.com and Apache directs it to the data for: www.someotherdomain.com I've looking into all the many config files and can't find anything wrong. All is pointing where it should and no definitions, as far as I can tell, overlap. So what I'm wondering is: is there a way to see which config files or config instructions Apache is using to match a URL to a directory? Tanks.

    The error is that when a batch (about 15) of similar 1 page documents are sent to the printer from the server some of them (last time it was 5) fail with the message ‘Invalid printer specified’ and the others work fine. The same document sent 1 second later will work fine. We are using. Winodws 2008 R2 Std server (64 Bites) C# version 4 Crystal API version 13.2 Printer: HP LaserJet 600 M602 This is error message I'm getting.   • DD-WRT Router acting as a Switch and Wi-Fi AP

    Recently I upgraded to Comcast Business and their modem has a built-in router so I took off my DD-WRT router and moved to a location in my home where I needed more ports and Wi-Fi (preferably without running new Ethernet cables since it's 50-100 foot run through floor and ceilings). I have my network cable from my Comcast modem going into Port 1 of my DD-WRT router with Port 2 and 3 being networked PCs. I have DD-WRT setup as a DHCP forwarder with the firewall disabled. This lets my all of my devices access the network fine. Is the correct the way to do this? Or is this a less optimal solution and it should be done in a slightly different way?

  • Metro apps crash on startup, driver or permissions issue?

    After installing Win8 x64 RC, Metro apps worked correctly, but desktop OpenGL apps were slow and unresponsive. I installed the latest Win8 nVidia drivers, and the OpenGL apps started working correctly. At the same time, because of annoying permission messages, I changed the C:\ drive and all its files ownerships to my user, and gave it full permission. I restarted my pc after installing the drivers, and now Metro apps only show the splash screen, then crash. I tried installing other versions of the nVidia drivers, with the same result. My GPU is a GeForce GTX275. Is this a known problem with nVidia drivers? Or maybe changing the ownership of C:\ is the real problem? Thank you. More information (after looking in the event viewer) I've managed to find the problem and the error in the Event Viewer. I still cannot solve it.   • linux nooB: Installing ffmpeg + dependencies on aws linux ami (repo issues)

    Im installing ffmpeg to run on an amazon linux ami, and have added the rpmforge repo and the dag repo. Here are some guidelines I'm using for reference: TWoZaO and Razuna The rpmforge repo has ffmpeg, but if you try to install it then it will complain that is missing dependencies (for me libSDL-1.2.so.0()(64bit)). Regardless I will install ffmpeg from svn so I can be sure to enable the options I want (namely libx264). It seems strange to me though that SDL is not in rpmforge or dag, and in according to both of my references above, it should be there.   • Intel Core i7 clockspeeds

    I've got an Intel i7 3770 CPU and am generally quite happy about it. However when I am just browsing around without programs running in background it seems to underclock itself quite a lot. This is not a real issue, however there seems to be a small hiccup (0.1s maybe) when it clocks itself higher again. Does anyone have a similar issue? Can I change the thresholds that are being used to change the clocks? I absolutely like that it underclocks the CPU whenever I am not around, but it shouldn't start to annoy me. It might also be related to Windows 8.1, but I am not sure about that, just saying that it's a possibility. I ran LatencyMon as suggested and got this (worrying?) result:

  • Lost Internet access in Windows XP Mode virtual pc under Windows 7

    In my office, I created and configured a virtual pc in Windows XP Mode. Everything was working fine. Now I'm on the road, and my Internet access (in the host operation system) is either via a hotel wifi or through my Verizon air card. Either way, I've lost Internet access in the virtual pc. I went into the Virtual PC settings, and set the Networking value to Shared Networking (NAT). Actually, I've tried every combination I can find, but I can't get from the virtual pc to the web. I'm hoping to use the virtual box at a client site, so I really need that access. Is there anything I can do to get it back? Thanks for any help.

  • Simple image editor to select area of image as wallpaper

    I've spent way to many hours looking for software to do the following simple task, so now I'll ask. I need software that will open an image and put a 'crop box' on it. You can set the 'crop box' to standard screen resolutions (1024x768) or define a custom one. You can move the 'crop box' around on the image to select the area you want. You can re-size the 'crop box' (selecting a corner and dragging w/mouse) and it maintains the correct aspect ratio. You can save the area in the 'crop box' to use as the Windows background. (The software doesn't need to set it as the background, I can do that myself in Windows XP.) The free software sites (CNET.com, etc.) have lots of image editing software that do things much more complicated than this simple task. I've spent too many hours downloading them to see if they will do this particular task. The ones I've tried would require manual trial and error to get the part of an image that I want saved as an image, with the correct aspect ratio so Windows doesn't screw with it (stretch, tile, crop) when I select it as the wallpaper.

  • opening socket to google hangs on SYN_SENT

    I have 2 computers now: downloader (asus at4nm10t-i) with debian and desktop (asus sabertooth 990fx) with gentoo in the same network under NAT even with the same ethernet card: RTL8111E. driver r8169 is compiled as module on both computers. Sometimes in evenings desktop cannot connect to google and all its services like now: curl -v http://www.google.by on downloader it received server's answer immediately. on desktop it hanged and when I ran in other terminal: netstat -ntp | grep curl >>tcp 0 1 192.168.0.7:54126 173.194.35.191:80 SYN_SENT 4876/curl after 1-2 minutes it received server's answer. I was tried to change ip of network, mac address of desktop but nothing changed. When I was trying to connect to another services except google: curl -v http://www.yahoo.com both computers received answers immediately! Only when I rebooted desktop it begins to work with google services correctly I cant understand what is this bug related to. In which bugtracker should I post this: r8169 or linux kernel or google? PS. Desktop was checked with memtest: 5 passes - no errors

  • Is the Microsoft Surface restricted to Chinese display language in China and Hong Kong

    I currently live in China so my only options to buy a Surface tablet is to buy it here or in Hong Kong. Problem is that by default the entire UI is in Chinese. In the x86 version of Windows 8 you can install additional language packs to solve this, but I'm wondering if this is true for the tablet as well In the shop (Sunning) they will not let me try that, and if I buy one and it turns out you can't install language packs than I'm pooched. Can't find any official information on it either, at least nothing that refers to the tablet directly. (and whether or not the Chinese version is restricted in some way)

    Hi, I want to increase the RAM in my MacBookPro 15", 2.53 GHz, Mid-2009. I currently have 4GB, and I want 6GB (and upgrade to 8GB later - I think this should work with my model: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=573906) Now I see two offers: 1x4GB DDR3 1333 CL9 9-9 (149 EUR) 1x4GB DDR3 1066 CL7 7-7 (192 EUR). Both are from the same brand (Transcend), both are labeled "For MacBook/MacBookPro". Now I have no idea, which of these would work better with the 2GB RAM module from my currently installed memory (Running at 1067 MHz, according to System Profiler - but with what CL setting?) Would the 1333 CL9 RAM be set to CL7 when running at 1066 MHz? Thanks, Chris PS Should I expect problems when I later upgrade to 8GB with a different module (in case the same module won't be produced anymore)?

    I am compiling quite big project from source. The compilation always ends with: error: invalid conversion from ‘const char*’ to ‘char*’ [-fpermissive] I have already compiled this project one year ago. So I know a solution to this. Actualy I found more solutions: Adding a typecast to appropriate line of cpp code (It went to endless number of changes in each file. So I found next solution.) Modifying a makefile to compile that file with -fpermissive option. (I had to modify a lot of lines in each makefile. So I find even better solution.) "g++" or "gcc" was stored in a variable so I added -fpermissive to these variables. This is the best solution I have. It is sufficient to add this option to each makefile once. Unfortunately this software has big number of subdirectories. So I need to modify more than 100 makefiles. It took me whole day one year ago. Is there a way how to do this faster. What about this? alias gcc='gcc -fpermissive' I am not familiar with aliases. But it should be easy to try this. Is the syntax correct? And is this one correct? alias g++='g++ -fpermissive' ? And do I need to export the alias somehow? Will the make program respect the alias? Should I maybe change ./configure script? Or the ./configure.in? Or other file?

I would like to be able to use custom effects, like compressor, or stereophonic-to-binaural converter for listening online's streaming media on headphones, etc. Connect its output to some custom buffer instead of the sound card. For example, to be able to record audio, or to send audio via wireless connection to some other wireless source?     Hello. I'm trying to setup vsftpd on Fedora 12. I need to require use of FTPS, and for now need to use a self-signed SSL certificate. I managed to get the vsftpd service running and to connect as my user. I can list the home directory, but as soon as I try to list another directory, download or upload a file, I get this error: No available certificate or key corresponds to the SSL cipher suites which are enabled. And the xfer log is empty. I've been Googling it for a while now, but still can't understand the problem. Here's how I installed vsftpd: su yum install vsftpd chkconfig vsftpd on service vsftpd start I tried to generate the certificate in two ways.   • New Computer Build Questions

    I'm in the process of gathering parts and specs for a new machine. I wear many hats, so the machine needs to do a lot. I need at least 2 monitor support, if not three. I also play many online MMOs (wow, aion, war hammer, etc), along with some freelance programming projects. I already have a case which is very large, so it will fit anything. I have 2 other SATA HDs. They are more for storage and basic programs. I feel that the best improvement could be done with a solid state HD, true or not? I'm more of a software/programming guy, so ANY input at all on improving this system build would be appreciated. I have a few questions with this list. AMD or Intel? I don't know enough about either to choose what would best fit me. Thanks! **EDIT: Thanks for the input everyone! Here are some answers: I do a lot of programming and gaming, so I do need things for both. The newer video card covers the gaming aspect, as well as allowing me to have many monitors. (hopefully upgrade to dual 30' or more) I don't need any additional HDs at this time. I have a SATA 160g and 120g from my previous computer, and a NAS system with over 2TB of storage on the homenetwork. I just wanted a fast HD for OS/programs/games. With the memory.
