• Newly registered domain name still doesn't show up after 72 hours.

  Seven days ago I ordered a domain name with a local (Belgian) domain name agent. I have already webspace at a shared host in the US, so I filled in their nameservers on the form. I immediately payed with my credit card. Three days ago I received an e-mail from the domain name agent, saying that my domain name was registered with the external nameservers I provided, and that the site would be visible within 24 hours. However, 72 hours after that mail I still can't see my domain name. A whois search shows indeed that my domain is registered on my name,but a ping to the domain returns unknown host and a traceroute gives the similar Name or service not known. What can have gone wrong, and which (Linux) commands can I use to find out. Or should I just be patient and will the domain name eventually be propagated?

• Additional mailboxes in Outlook 07 SP2

  I have had my Outlook 2007 open additional mailboxes via the advanced account settings. After updating to Office SP2, the list of emails in the additional account still displays, but I get a message for each mailbox item: This item cannot be displayed in the Reading Pane. Open the item to read its contents. After double clicking the message, I get a small error box which displays just Cannot open this item. Unknown Error. Also, if I try to re-add the mailbox in the Advanced tab of my account settings, I get an error message The name cannot be resolved. The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action. However, the status bar indicates Online with Microsoft Exchange, and I can both send and receive emails from my primary account. What could be going wrong?

• Seamless Remote Windows on Linux Client

  I really like the RemoteApp features of Windows Server 2008 Are there any solutions for similar functionality for Linux clients and a Windows server? We have users that are running Linux on the desktop and rdesktop to a Windows server, mostly for Outlook. It would be nice if Outlook could behave more seamlessly. From what I can tell rdesktop doesn't do that yet, it only implements RDP 5. I've also seen "SeamlessRDP" from Cendio, which is an extension to rdesktop, but I can't get it to work. I think it doesn't work in Vista, but that is just a guess. Any ideas? And thanks in advance. EDIT: I emailed Cendio and they confirmed SeamlessRDP doesn't work with Server 2008 for unknown reasons. It appears there is no way to do this with a 2k8 server. It's either windows clients with RemoteApp or using a pre-Vista OS with seamlessrdp

• How to set up dual quadro cards on RHEL 5.5?

  I have a RHEL 5 workstation with 2 nvidia Quadro FX4500 cards, with one display attached to each card. After doing a clean install of RHEL 5.5, the second display doesnt work (it worked ok in RHEL 5.2). Neither separate X screens nor Xinerama are working. The kernel version is 2.6.18-194.el5 I've tried nvidia drivers 185.18.36 (the ones that i was using on 5.2) and the latest 260.19.36 and neither works.   I have setup pptpd as my VPN server on Ubuntu Server 9.04, I am able to connect to the VPN from the client and can access the server's local network, but I am unable to connect to the external network via the VPN.   I am migrating my companies intranet from a OS X server to an Ubuntu 12.04 server. We use a flat file to store user names and passwords hashs. This file is used by Apache and Dovecot to authenticate users. The Ubuntu server is running Dovecot 2.0 while the OS X server is running Dovecot 1.2. I have already migrated WebDav which uses Apache for authentication. Authentication works. I'm in the process of migrating our Prosody server which uses Dovecot for authentiation. Dovecot is up and running, but when I test authentication using either telnet a login username password or doveadm sudo doveadm auth username, I get dovecot: auth: passwd-file(username): unknown user dovecot: auth: Debug: client out: FAIL#0111#011user=username in my log file. I can use sudo dovecot user username to perform a user lookup and it will return the user's info. I can generate a password hash locally and Dovecot will authenticate the test password just fine.

• TextMate suddenly highlighting all text dark red...?

  I'm using TextMate on Snow Leopard, don't know much about how it works. After I hit an unknown keyboard shortcut, it suddenly decided to highlight almost all text in my Python files dark red - making all my Python virtually unreadable! I must have accidentally pressed a shortcut - but I've no idea what I did or how to turn it off, and can't find any relevant help in the manual or form. Even just 'turn off all highlighting' would do. Anyone know how to turn this highlighting off? Bit desperate! UPDATE: Figured it out. There's a tiny, tiny dropdown list at the very bottom of every TextMate editing window where you can set the language, so TextMate can highlight invalid syntax - I'd accidentally clicked on it and set the language to something other than Python. Will leave the question up though in case others have the same problem.

  Helo I installed MAMP PRO on my Macbook Pro (10.6) some time ago. Now I would like to use zip functions in php. I found that I must add zip.so to my extension folder and edited php.ini. On my computer I have two different versions of PHP one in MAMP folder and other in user/lib which was pre-installed on my system. Now I wish to compile my zip library for MAMP version. I got zip sources for my version of PHP then in terminal called function /Applications/MAMP/bin/php5/bin/phpize so it uses mamp php version ./configure make then I moved compile zip.so to extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20060613. • grep pattern interpretted differently in 2 different systems with same grep version

  We manufacture a linux appliance for data centers, and all are running fedora installed from the same kickstart process. There are different hardware versions, some with IDE hard drives and some SCSI, so the filesystems may be at /dev/sdaN or /dev/hdaN. We have a web interface into these appliances that show disk usage, which is generated using "df | grep /dev/*da". This generally works for both hardware versions, giving an output like follows: /dev/sda2 5952284 3507816 2137228 63% / /dev/sda5 67670876 9128796 55049152 15% /data /dev/sda1 101086 11976 83891 13% /boot However, for one machine, we get the following result from that command: Binary file /dev/sda matches It seems that its grepping files matching /dev/*da for an unknown pattern for some reason, only on this box that is seemingly identical in grep version, packages, kernel, and hardware. I switched the grep pattern to be "/dev/.da" and everything works as expected on this troublesome box, but I hate not knowing why this is happening. Anyone have any ideas? Or perhaps some other tests to try?

• What would be the total expenses of running an in-home web server?

  I have several hosting accounts with companies, and plan to keep them. However, I would like to try my hand at creating my own home web-server, both for fun and for the learning experience. I would like to know the expenses involved, including: electricity costs (greater than light bulb?) internet costs (will I have to upgrade my internet? Or is 3-5Mbps upload speed fine for a web server with medium amount of traffic? Would I have to get a separate internet connection?) other unknown expenses Consider that I will configure the web server myself, so that is not an expense. Also consider that I already have a computer (year-old Dell laptop, 15R) to use to be dedicated as the web server.

  hi we lately purchase few dell servers all of them from Rxxx series couple of R410 and R710 the OS we used on those servers is: CentOS 5.4 we're getting very weird error messages and we lost network connectivity couple of times (restarting the network interface was needed to fix it) the messages we're getting are: Message from syslogd@ at Wed Nov 18 12:07:08 2009 ... servername kernel: Uhhuh.   I'm trying to use the RBC9 SpaceNavigator TEST x64 build drivers for my SpaceNavigator 3d joystick so that it can work as a normal joystick in games like Quake. Unfortunately, I get the error "This version of windows requires all drivers to have a valid digital signature" and in the "Device status" in device manager, I get "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)". Is there a way to work around this issue?

• Check_webinject plugin will not connect to https site using

  We're using Nagios to monitor some of our web sites. We have a script that uses the older plugin that we are trying to switch to using webinject.pl from cpan. When the script runs, it generates this error: LWP::Protocol::https::Socket: SSL connect attempt failed with unknown error error:1407741A:SSL routines:SSL23_GET_SERVER_HELLO:tlsv1 alert decode error at /usr/local/share/perl5/LWP/Protocol/http.pm line 51. It appears the web site does not support TLSv1 for https. If it matters, the site is a Cisco WebVPN. I've pointed the same script at a different site that does support TLSv1 and it seems to work fine. My web search is coming up empty.   I am looking for an employee monitoring solution, that would allow us to remotely connect to our computers to see what is happening live, and preferably having some recording capabilities such as snapshots, URLs visited, etc ... I've looked around the web and most softwares I found were from unknown companies, had crappy websites, and made me feel like their either wanted me to install a virus on my computer, or to scam me. Most also seemed to have planted "reviews" online most likely written by themselves. Basically, anyone has experience with a trustworthy company to accomplish that? Thanks

• Hudson: how do i use a parameterized build to do svn checkout and svn tag?

  I'm setting up a parameterized build in hudson v1.362. the parameter i'm creting is used to determine which branch to checkout in subversion. I can set my svn repository url like this: https://my.svn.server/branches/${branch} and it does the checkout and the build just fine. now I want to tag the build after it finishes. i'm using the SVN tagging plugin for hudson to do this. so i go to the bottom of the project config screen for the hudson project and turn on "Perform Subversion tagging on successful build". here, i set my Tag Base URL to https://my.svn.server/tags/${branch}-${BUILD_NUMBER} and it gives me errors about those properties not being found. so i change them to environment variable usages like this: https://my.svn.server/tags/${env['branch']}-${env['BUILD_NUMBER']} and the svn tagging plugin is happy. the problem now is that my svn repository at the top is using the ${branch} syntax and the svn tagging plugin barfs on this: moduleLocation: Remote -https://my.svn.server/branches/$branch/ Tag Base URL: 'https://my.svn.server/tags/thebranchiused-1234'. There was no old tag at https://my.svn.server/tags/thebranchiused-1234. • iChat can't authenticate to Lion Server 10.7.2 [migrated]

  I've enabled iChat and iCal Server through our local 10.7.2 Server which has DNS set up correctly. I can add the server account via a client's System Preferences (under other - Mac OS X server) and it authenticates with my shortname correctly. However, when I load iChat, I get this error message: Where the account is [email protected]. The password and username is correct. Console throws this error: 22/11/11 3:03:31.135 PM imagent: [Warning] XMPPConnection: Error: Error Domain=XMPPErrorDomain Code=105 "The operation couldn?t be completed. (XMPPErrorDomain error 105.)" UserInfo=0x7f81bbe2a3e0 {XMPPErrorText=service requested for unknown domain} DNS is set up correctly (it's working for Profile Management, Software Update Server and Web Services) but I can't get iChat to work correctly. How can I get clients to authenticate? FYI: It's probably worth noting that I get the exact same error messages when I use [email protected] instead of [email protected].
