  • Swing button repaint issue

    - by KáGé
    Hello, I'm new to java and I have to get a school project done by Sunday and got a problem. Here's the code: private abstract class GamePanel { JPanel panel = null; } private class PutPanel extends GamePanel { JButton putShip1 = new JButton(""); JButton putShip2 = new JButton(""); JButton putShip3 = new JButton(""); JButton putShip4 = new JButton(""); ShipDirection ship1Direction = ShipDirection.NORTH; ShipDirection ship2Direction = ShipDirection.NORTH; ShipDirection ship3Direction = ShipDirection.NORTH; ShipDirection ship4Direction = ShipDirection.NORTH; JButton startButton = new JButton("Start game"); public PutPanel(){ this.panel = new JPanel(); panel.setSize(200, Torpedo.session.map.size*Field.buttonSize+300); panel.setBackground(Color.blue); putShip1.setSize(90, 90); putShip1.setLocation(55, 5); putShip1.setIcon(createImageIcon(Torpedo.session.map.shipPath+"/ship1/full_north.png", null)); putShip2.setSize(90, 90); putShip2.setLocation(55, 105); putShip2.setIcon(createImageIcon(Torpedo.session.map.shipPath+"/ship2/full_north.png", null)); putShip3.setSize(90, 90); putShip3.setLocation(55, 205); putShip3.setIcon(createImageIcon(Torpedo.session.map.shipPath+"/ship3/full_north.png", null)); putShip4.setSize(90, 90); putShip4.setLocation(55, 305); putShip4.setIcon(createImageIcon(Torpedo.session.map.shipPath+"/ship4/full_north.png", null)); startButton.setSize(150, 30); startButton.setLocation(20, Torpedo.session.map.size*Field.buttonSize+205); panel.add(putShip1); panel.add(putShip2); panel.add(putShip3); panel.add(putShip4); panel.add(startButton); startButton.addActionListener(startButton()); startButton.addActionListener(putShip1()); startButton.addActionListener(putShip2()); startButton.addActionListener(putShip3()); startButton.addActionListener(putShip4()); panel.setLayout(null); panel.setVisible(true); } private ActionListener startButton(){ return new ActionListener(){ public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { putPanel.panel.setVisible(false); actionPanel.panel.setVisible(true); } }; } private ActionListener putShip1(){ return new ActionListener(){ public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { selectedShip = 1; putShip1.setBackground(Color.red); putShip2.setBackground(null); putShip3.setBackground(null); putShip4.setBackground(null); switch(ship1Direction){ case NORTH: ship1Direction = ShipDirection.EAST; putShip1.setIcon(createImageIcon(Torpedo.session.map.shipPath+"/ship1/full_east.png", null)); break; case EAST: ship1Direction = ShipDirection.SOUTH; putShip1.setIcon(createImageIcon(Torpedo.session.map.shipPath+"/ship1/full_south.png", null)); break; case SOUTH: ship1Direction = ShipDirection.WEST; putShip1.setIcon(createImageIcon(Torpedo.session.map.shipPath+"/ship1/full_west.png", null)); break; case WEST: ship1Direction = ShipDirection.NORTH; putShip1.setIcon(createImageIcon(Torpedo.session.map.shipPath+"/ship1/full_north.png", null)); break; } putShip1.repaint(); putShip2.repaint(); putShip3.repaint(); putShip4.repaint(); panel.repaint(); JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(new JFrame(), "Repaint finished", "Repaint status info", JOptionPane.INFORMATION_MESSAGE); //this here hangs the program when the method is finally called } }; When one of the putShip* buttons is clicked, it should rotate its own icon right 90° (means changing it to the next image), but it does nothing until the startButton is clicked, which changes the panel to an other one. (Only the first button's actionListener is here, the others' are practically the same). The panel is in a JFrame with two other panels that yet do nothing. How could I make it work properly? Thank you.

  • What's the difference between reflow and repaint?

    - by Jon Raasch
    I'm a little unclear on the difference between reflow + repaint (if there's any difference at all) Seems like reflow might be shifting the position of various DOM elements, where repaint is just rendering a new object. E.g. reflow would occur when removing an element and repaint would occur when changing its color. Is this true?

  • How to repaint another Qt class

    - by RR
    Hi all, I'm a new bit in Qt... I have a Qt GUI application (written by me), let's call it QtAPP.exe When QtAPP.exe running, I will use a QThread and QProcess to execute some external file, such as player.exe (written in native C). Here's my question: In QtAPP.exe, there are 2 classes, 1. QMainWindow - Core of QtAPP.exe 2. QThread - A thread class to execute external things For now, if I got a finished() signal in that QThread, how do I to force the QMainWindow to repaint itself ? Hope somebody can show me some tips, maybe sample code :) Any suggestion are welcome~

  • Java repaint is slow under certain conditions.

    - by Gabriel A. Zorrilla
    I'm doing a simple grid which each square is highlighted by the cursor: They are a couple of JPanels, mapgrid and overlay inside a JLayeredPane, with mapgrid on the bottom. Mapgrid just draws on initialization the grid, its paint metodh is: public void paintComponent(Graphics g) { super.paintComponent(g); Graphics2D g2d = (Graphics2D) g; g2d.setRenderingHint(RenderingHints.KEY_ANTIALIASING, RenderingHints.VALUE_ANTIALIAS_ON); for (int i = 0; i < h; i++) { for (int j = 0; j < w; j++) { g2d.setColor(new Color(128, 128, 128, 255)); g2d.drawRect(tileSize * j, i * tileSize, tileSize, tileSize); } } In the overlay JPanel is where the highlighting occurs, this is what is repainted when the mouse is moved: public void paintComponent(Graphics g) { super.paintComponent(g); Graphics2D g2d = (Graphics2D) g; g2d.setRenderingHint(RenderingHints.KEY_ANTIALIASING, RenderingHints.VALUE_ANTIALIAS_ON); g2d.setColor(new Color(255, 255, 128, 255)); g2d.drawRect((pointerX/tileSize)*tileSize,(pointerY/ tileSize)*tileSize, tileSize, tileSize); } I noticed that even though the base layer (mapgrid) is NOT repainted when the mouse moves, just the transparent overlay layer, the performance is lacking. If i give the overlay JPanel a background, its way faster. If i remove the mapgrid Antialiasing, its a bit faster too. I don't know why giving a background to the overlay layer (and thus, hiding the mapgrid) or disabling antialiasing in the mapgrid leads to much better performance. Is there a better way to do this? Why does this happen?

QPen(Qt::green) : QPen(Qt::yellow); i++; update(boxRect); } This code does not working properly. What is wrong?

  • In C#, how do you send a refresh/repaint message to a WPF grid or canvas?

    - by xarzu
    How do you send a refresh message to a WPF grid or canvas? In other words, I have noticed while in debug mode, I can write code that sends a line to the display and then, if that line is not right, I can adjust it -- but the previous line is still there. Now, the code I am writing sends information to the display based on what the user clicks. So this must mean that the display is not refreshed each time a new set of lines and boxes and text goes to the grid or canvas in WPF. Using C# code, how do you send a refresh/repaint message to a WPF grid or canvas?

  • Repaint() not calling paint() in Java

    - by Joshua Auriemma
    Let me start off by saying I know I've violated some basic Java principles in this messy code, but I'm desperately trying to finish a program by Tuesday for a social science experiment, and I don't know Java, so I'm basically just fumbling through it for now. With that disclaimer out of the way, I have a separate program working where a circle is moving around the screen and the user must click on it. It works fine when its in its own separate class file, but when I add the code to my main program, it's no longer working. I don't even really understand why repaint() calls my paint() function — as far as I'm concerned, it's magic, but I've noticed that repaint() calls paint() in my test program, but not in the more complicated actual program, and I assume that's why the circle is no longer painting on my program. Entire code is below: import java.awt.Color; import java.awt.Graphics; import java.awt.Graphics2D; import java.awt.Rectangle; import javax.swing.*; import java.awt.event.*; import java.awt.geom.Ellipse2D; import java.io.FileReader; import java.io.IOException; import java.util.Calendar; public class Reflexology1 extends JFrame{ private static final long serialVersionUID = -1295261024563143679L; private Ellipse2D ball = new Ellipse2D.Double(0, 0, 25, 25); private Timer moveBallTimer; int _ballXpos, _ballYpos; JButton button1, button2; JButton movingButton; JTextArea textArea1; int buttonAClicked, buttonDClicked; private long _openTime = 0; private long _closeTime = 0; JPanel thePanel = new JPanel(); JPanel thePlacebo = new JPanel(); final JFrame frame = new JFrame("Reflexology"); final JFrame frame2 = new JFrame("The Test"); JLabel label1 = new JLabel("Press X and then click the moving dot as fast as you can."); public static void main(String[] args){ new Reflexology1(); } public Reflexology1(){ frame.setSize(600, 475); frame.setLocationRelativeTo(null); frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); frame.setTitle("Reflexology 1.0"); frame.setResizable(false); frame2.setSize(600, 475); frame2.setLocationRelativeTo(null); frame2.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); frame2.setTitle("Reflexology 1.0"); frame2.setResizable(false); button1 = new JButton("Accept"); button2 = new JButton("Decline"); //movingButton = new JButton("Click Me"); ListenForAcceptButton lForAButton = new ListenForAcceptButton(); ListenForDeclineButton lForDButton = new ListenForDeclineButton(); button1.addActionListener(lForAButton); button2.addActionListener(lForDButton); //movingButton.addActionListener(lForMButton); JTextArea textArea1 = new JTextArea(24, 50); textArea1.setText("Tracking Events\n"); textArea1.setLineWrap(true); textArea1.setWrapStyleWord(true); textArea1.setSize(15, 50); textArea1.setEditable(false); FileReader reader = null; try { reader = new FileReader("EULA.txt"); textArea1.read(reader, "EULA.txt"); } catch (IOException exception) { System.err.println("Problem loading file"); exception.printStackTrace(); } finally { if (reader != null) { try { reader.close(); } catch (IOException exception) { System.err.println("Error closing reader"); exception.printStackTrace(); } } } JScrollPane scrollBar1 = new JScrollPane(textArea1, JScrollPane.VERTICAL_SCROLLBAR_AS_NEEDED, JScrollPane.HORIZONTAL_SCROLLBAR_NEVER); AdjustmentListener listener = new MyAdjustmentListener(); thePanel.add(scrollBar1); thePanel.add(button1); thePanel.add(button2); frame.add(thePanel); ListenForMouse lForMouse = new ListenForMouse(); thePlacebo.addMouseListener(lForMouse); thePlacebo.add(label1); frame2.add(thePlacebo); ListenForWindow lForWindow = new ListenForWindow(); frame.addWindowListener(lForWindow); frame2.addKeyListener(new KeyAdapter() { public void keyPressed(KeyEvent e){ if(e.getKeyChar() == 'X' || e.getKeyChar() == 'x') {moveBallTimer.start();} } }); frame.setVisible(true); moveBallTimer = new Timer(1000, new ActionListener() { public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { moveBall(); System.out.println("Timer started!"); repaint(); } }); addKeyListener(new KeyAdapter() { public void keyPressed(KeyEvent e) { if(frame2.isVisible()){ moveBallTimer.start(); } } }); } private class ListenForAcceptButton implements ActionListener{ public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e){ if (e.getSource() == button1){ Calendar ClCDateTime = Calendar.getInstance(); System.out.println(ClCDateTime.getTimeInMillis() - _openTime); _closeTime = ClCDateTime.getTimeInMillis() - _openTime; //frame.getContentPane().remove(thePanel); //thePlacebo.addKeyListener(lForKeys); //frame.getContentPane().add(thePlacebo); //frame.repaint(); //moveBallTimer.start(); frame.setVisible(false); frame2.setVisible(true); frame2.revalidate(); frame2.repaint(); } } } private class ListenForDeclineButton implements ActionListener{ public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e){ if (e.getSource() == button2){ JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(Reflexology1.this, "You've declined the license agreement.   • NETCF - Optimized Repaint (onPaint)

    - by Nullstr1ng
    Hi Guys, I want to ask for suggestions on how to optimize a repaint in Compact Framework? GetHashCode() didn't help because it always return a different hash code. Anyway, I have a program which you can drag and resize an object in run time. This object is a transparent object and it has a PNG image which also dynamically resize relative to object client size. Though I noticed, (e.g. I have 4 transparent object and I'm dragging or resizing one) all 4 of them triggers OnPaintBackground even if the 3 are not moving. Another one when am just tapping on the one object .. it sill triggers onPaintBacground(). Anyway, I don't have a problem when this events get triggered. What I like to do is optimization and that means I only have to repaint the object when it's necessary. Can you guys please give a suggestions? here's my pseudo C# code Bitmap _backBuff; onResize() { if(_backBuff != null) _backBuff.Dispose(); _backBuff = new Bitmap(ClientSize.Width, ClientSize.Height); Invalidate(); } onPaintBackground(e) /*have to use onPaintBackground because MSDN said it's faster*/ { using(Graphics g = Graphics.FromImage(_backBuff)) { g.Clear(Color.Black); // draw background ....some interface calling here ....and paint the background // draw alpha PNG .. get hDc .. paint PNG .. release hDc } e.Graphics.DrawImage(_backBuff,0,0); } Thanks in advance.

  • Revalidate and repaint - Java Swing

    - by bosra
    I have a JPanel that I am adding JLabel's to. I then want to remove all the JLabels and add some new ones. So I do the following: panel.removeAll();panel.repaint(); panel.add(new JLabel("Add something new"); panel.revalidate(); This works fine. My problem arises when I start a new thread after this like: panel.removeAll();panel.repaint(); (1)panel.add(new JLabel("Add something new"); panel.revalidate(); //new thread to start - this thread creates new JLabels that should appear under (1) firstProducer.start(); try { firstProducer.join(); } catch (InterruptedException e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace(); } Then the output from the original JLabels is still visible. I have read that the revalidate process is a long running task and hence the firstProducer thread is getting started while the revalidation is going on and a conflict is arising. What is the best way to deal with this?

  • Force repaint after button click

    - by coubeatczech
    consider this piece of scala swing code detail.reactions +={ case ButtonClicked(but) = detail.contents += new Label(but.text) detail.background = new java.awt.Color(0,255,0) } the detail is of FlowPanel type. When the button is clicked, the color is instantly repainted, but the Label is not. It gets visible as I click the area. How can I force the detail to repaint its contents after a click?

  • How to repaint a XYPlot from JFreeChart? (JAVA)

    - by mccrank
    Hi, I'm doing a GUI that has a XYPlot (from the JFreeChart package) and when I click a button I'm trying to add some values. I add them correctly to the XYSeries that are inside the XYPlot, but the GUI doesn't change. It only changes when y maximize or minimize. Is there some kind of repaint to do this? I have been looking for it and I have found nothing.

  • Using repaint() method.

    - by owca
    I'm still struggling to create this game : http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2844190/choosing-design-method-for-ladder-like-word-game .I've got it almost working but there is a problem though. When I'm inserting a word and it's correct, the whole window should reload, and JButtons containing letters should be repainted with different style. • css nth-child(2n+1) repaint css after filtering out list items

    - by Michael
    I have a list of 20+ items. The background-color changes using the :nth-child(2n+1) selector. (ie. even item black, odd item white). When I click a button to filter out specific items using the jQuery Isotope plugin it adds a .isotope-hidden class to the items I want to filter out, which changes the position of the list item to 0,0 and opacity to 0. When this happens the remaining items are left with the original black/white background-colors, which are now no longer in order. Does anyone know a way to "repaint' the css using the :nth-child(2n+1) selector on the items that do not contain the .isotope-hidden class. I tried #element tr:not(.isotope-hidden):nth-child(2n+1) with no avail. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

  • jQuery-Facebox - Popup is not working after repaint from AJAX

    - by Bragaadeesh
    Hi I am having a set of Links in my page and I have attached the facebox jQuery functionality so that whenever a link is pressed, it will get a nice popup <a href="coach_selector_popup?day=<%= day %>&hour=<%= hour %>" rel="facebox"> Below is the script that I use for 'facebox'ing. <script type="text/javascript"> jQuery(document).ready(function($) { jQuery('a[rel*=facebox]').facebox() }) </script> The above is working fine. But when I render it again on response to some AJAX call, the functionality is getting lost, meaning when I click on the link I am redirected to a page instead of a facebox popup. I know that I need to do something when I repaint, can someone point me to the right direction?

  • Flex: How to refresh/repaint a chart?

    - by Rob
    I have a chart for which the data is provided asynchronously via a CallResponder (used with a RemoteObject). However, it does not seem possible to update the chart with the data after it has been initially drawn. Here are the relevant snippets of (simplified) code: // code below is in the application MXML <mx:CallResponder id="result" result="resultHandler(event)" /> private function resultHandler(event:ResultEvent):void { // panel is an instance of ChartPanel this.panel.init(event.result); } // invoked when user clicks a button private function displayChart():void { this.currentState = "ShowChart"; result.token = remoteObject.getUrlStatistics(); } // code below is in ChartPanel <mx:BarChart id="chart" /> public function init(value:Object):void { var xml:XMLList = XMLList(value); var data:ArrayCollection = new ArrayCollection(); for each (var element:XML in xml.children()) { // not shown: extract value out of XML, put in ArrayList data.addItem(...); } this.chart.dataProvider = data; } The result is that it draws an empty chart. the resultHandler function or init function in ChartPanel needs to trigger a repaint or something similar. I have tried: Firing a collection modified event after assigning it to chart.dataProvider calling invalidateDisplayList (tried with all components) binding the chart data provider to a variable, and doing the above. changing the view state on the last line of resultHandler. None of them worked. When I fetch the data and cache it locally, then use it to call init synchronously, the chart displays correctly. What am I missing here?

  • Outlook 2007 - repainting (?) problems when copying and pasting between windows: have to switch focus before pasted text is visible

    - by Rory
    For some time now I've had a problem when copying and pasting between Outlook 2007 windows, or from other office apps into Outlook 2007. When I paste, say into a new email, the email window's text area goes blank. The window isn't 'not responding', the To and Subject contents are still visible, but it looks like all the text in the email has been deleted. Initially I thought it was just taking ages to paste, but it turns out I need to switch focus to another window and then switch focus back to the Outlook window. Only then does the body of the email repaint itself. It's at the point that I click onto the Outlook window that the body area changes from blank white to showing all the text that was there before plus the pasted text. Any ideas? I've updated my graphics driver. Not sure what else it could be. I do sometimes have similar problems in Visual Studio 2010 too: when I paste text into a code window it doesn't show immediately, but the rest of the window shows what was there before I pasted. I'm using Win XP with all updates applid, on a Dell Vostro 1510.

  • Application Screen Repainting Issues

    - by Jeff Sheldon
    I have this issue lately at work. It drives be nuts, and I finally stopped to ask this question. It's quite often that an application I've been running just randomly fails to repaint itself for a while, usually in the editor screen. I most often see this occurring with Expression Web, Visual Studio 2008/2010 and SQL Server Management studio. These applications are what I work in the most, so I'm not surprised to mostly see it here. But I was curious if anyone else had a solution for this. I've tried: Reboots. The screen shot below is about 10 minutes after a reboot. New Video Drivers. This machine is running a Nvidia Quadro NVS 290 video card with the latest drivers. Closing other applications, this is the only thing running right now. As far as hardware, this machine has Dual Quad-Core Xeon 2.83ghz Processors, with 10 gigs of memory, running Windows XP SP3 64bit. Any help would be great. JNK EDIT: Per comments from deleted (wrong) answer: I'm running dual monitors. Set it to single display, still occurred. Rebooted, and tried it again, and it still occurred. Switched it back to dual screen. My resolution is only 1400x900 on each.

  • Help repaiting a Component

    - by serhio
    I am working with Microsoft.VisualBasic.PowerPacks.RectangleShape, but the question is common for components or controls in general. I added to a TextRectangleShape : RectangleShape a Text property: Protected Overrides Sub OnPaint(ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.PaintEventArgs) MyBase.OnPaint(e) Dim f As Font = Me.Font Dim g As Graphics = e.Graphics Dim textRect As Rectangle = New Rectangle(Me.Location, Me.Size) Using br As New SolidBrush(Me._TextColor) g.DrawString(_Text, f, br, textRect) End Using End Sub Now when I move this control the text does not disappear from the former location. Maybe I could invalidate each time the Parent in the OnPaint, but if this is not a good solution if the parent has a time consuming repaint logic or I have a lot of my custom component moving at the same time. How do I properly repaint the component?

  • How to report progress of a JavaScript function?

    - by LambyPie
    I have a JavaScript function which is quite long and performs a number of tasks, I would like to report progress to the user by updating the contents of a SPAN element with a message as I go. I tried adding document.getElementById('spnProgress').innerText = ... statements throughout the function code. However, whilst the function is executing the UI will not update and so you only ever see the last message written to the SPAN which is not very helpful. My current solution is to break the task up into a number of functions, at the end of each I set the SPAN message and then "trigger" the next one with a window.setTimeout call with a very short delay (say 10ms). This yields control and allows the browser to repaint the SPAN with the updated message before starting the next step. However I find this very messy and difficult to follow the code, I'm thinking there must be a better way. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there any way to force the SPAN to repaint without having to leave the context of the function? Thanks
