• What are the default access rights for a process started with ShellExecuteEx?

  I need to perform certain operation on a process started with ShellExecuteEx like waiting for it, duplicating handles, querying and setting information etc. Now I am wondering if I can do all these things on the hProcess member which is returned in the SHELLEXECUTEINFO structure I pass. Does anybody know this? Do I have rights like PROCESS_DUP_HANDLE, SYNCHRONIZE, PROCESS_SET_INFORMATION, PROCESS_QUERY_INFORMATION and so on by default?

  I have an application which runs another application (mine) using the WinAPI "ShellExecuteEx" with the verb "RunAs" so that the other application should start with "Administrator" credentials. My OS is Windows XP. (Do not bother about other operating system, as I have specific code in place) The only problem with this thing is that the "Current User" comes preselected. I want it to be the "Following User" with Administrator selected. How to do this?

  Hello Im looking for a way to get an application, any application, that has been started using ShellExecuteEx or CreateProcess to draw on an offscreen surface such as a bitmap instead of drawing on the desktop, this should include any dialogs the (Open, Save, messages) that the application invokes. I am familiar with the Windows API, GDI and device context, any suggestions would be much appreciated.

• Launch external application from C++ program and attach it to visual 2008 debugger while debugging host in WinAPI

  Basically I have Host and Child program. I do not have sources for Child so I can't change anything in it. I want to launch Host from debugger, which at some point should launch Child program. I want to attach Child automatically for debugging session as well (so any breakpoints set in DLL sources loaded under Child process will hit). How to do this in Visual Studio 2008 C++ with standard WinAPI? Written in Delphi, I have written a normal windows application to check and debug the major parts of the code and now have to convert it to an NT Service. Then, that second instance of runner.exe should run notepad.exe - which doesn't happen. If I print the argc argument, it's 14 for the second instance of runner.exe, and they are all weird stuff like Files\Microsoft, SQL, Files\Common and so on. I can't figure out why this happens. I want to be able to string as many runner.exe calls using command line arguments as possible, or at least 2. How can I do that? I am using Windows 7 if that makes a difference.

  I am having a windows application interacting with DB2 database. In my application i have code to execute some DB2 commands through command line interface. I have used windowsAPI "ShellExecuteEx()" to execute those DB2 commands through command line. Following is the code written to execute DB2 command through command line. string command = "/c /w /i DB2 UNCATALOG NODE DB_DATABASE "" test.log | echo %date% %time% test.log SHELLEXECUTEINFO shellInfo; ZeroMemory(&shellInfo, sizeof(shellInfo)); shellInfo.cbSize = sizeof(shellInfo); shellInfo.fMask = SEE_MASK_FLAG_NO_UI | SEE_MASK_NOCLOSEPROCESS; //shellInfo.lpFile = "db2cmd"; shellInfo.lpFile = "db2cmd"; shellInfo.lpParameters = command.c_str(); The code is executed successfully , however if test.log is observered i only get result of DB2 command and not date and time. If you see the above command there is "|" pipe operator and echo command to log date and time in test.log Please note that if I execute above DB2 command through separately command line i.e. not through code. I am able to view date and time log along with DB2 command result in test.log. Following is the full command which i executed through command line. DB2CMD /c /i /w DB2 UNCATALOG NODE DB_DATABASE "" test.log | echo %date% %time% test.log According to me since DB2 command is executed successfully through code, there is problem with only usage of "|" pipe operator or echo command.
