  • Display Special Characters (Korean Letters) in RichTextBox

    Hi, My question might be a little bit confusing, but I think it's still worth of paying some attention. Basically I'm designing a program to display all printable Unicode characters in a RichTextBox. I'm using VC# 2010 Express Edition. However, the RichTextBox has a critical problem: some special characters cannot be displayed correctly. For example, some Korean Characters (??????????????????????????????), can be displayed correctly in Microsoft Word. After I copy to the RichTextBox, the characters cannot be displayed correctly. However, when I copy back to Microsoft Word, it can be displayed correctly. Therefore, it's a display problem (the characters themselves are correct). I guess it might be a font problem. Some related property info: RichTextBox.Font.GdiChaSet RichTextBox.Font How can I solve it? So that all printable Unicode characters can be displayed correctly (using different fonts for different CharSets are acceptable). Actually, I need further assistance about removing all formatting when pasting rtbxFileContent.Paste(DataFormats.GetFormat(DataFormats.Text)); // DataFormats.UnicodeText I still need to have all printable characters to be displayed correctly, but without any formatting (except font).     I'm surprised I can't find a simple tool for this. Basically, sometimes as a result of text munging, or using some piece of software, I end up with some text that has some troublesome characters - such as looking a lot like other characters, but being distinct from them. I'd like a tool (preferably online, javascript based) where I can paste the text, and it will tell me all the characters involved, their names, unicode codes etc.

Examples: % # ^ . ! @ & ( ) + / " ? ` ~ < { } [ ] | = - ; I need to detect them and return a boolean, not just strip them out. Probably a super easy question but I need a better way of doing this than a huge list of conditionals or a sloppy loop.

    Hi there, am using jquery tablesorter plugin and in my "country" column i got special characters like this: Índia. The fact is that when i hit the header of the column to sort it, it puts my "Índia" at the end of the column. I guess the nav sees the Í instead of the real "I" with an accent. Any clue on how to make it work even with accents ? Here's the js code in my domready: $.tablesorter.defaults.widgets = ['zebra']; $.tablesorter.defaults.sortList = [[0,0]]; $("table").tablesorter(); Thanks in advance.

  • Terminal/Putty showing control characters (^M) after updating

    I updated my system yesterday afternoon using the recommended updates from Update Manager. After it completed, I shutdown my system and went home for the day. I come in this morning and I am getting control characters displayed when using vi in both the standard terminal emulator, putty, and putty inside of my Windows virtual that I run with VirtualBox. I have made no other system changes and I cannot figure out how this occurred. It's as if every text file I have was created in DOS. I've searched the forums and I haven't found any answers. I am using xterm as my emulator and I checked with 3 of my coworkers and none of them are having this problem so we do not believe it is a server side issue. Especially since I've checked 3 different servers. There's nothing in my .profile other than PATH variables so I'm using the same terminal settings as everyone else. Some files are fine (I can open and read both /etc/environment and my .profile) but most of any kind of server generated log file is trash. Running cat or head on the same file displays the contents without the characters. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • Validating allowed characters or validating disallowed characters

    I've always validated my user input based on a list of valid/allowed characters, rather than a list of invalid/disallowed characters (or simply no validation). It's just a habit I picked up, probably on this site and I've never really questioned it until now. It makes sense if you wish to, say, validate a phone number, or validate an area code, however recently I've realised I'm also validating input such as Bio Text fields, User Comments, etc. for which the input has no solid syntax. The main advantage has always seemed to be: Validating allowed chars reduces the risk of you missing a potentially malicious character, but increases the risk the of you not allowing a character which the user may want to use. The former is more important. But, providing I am correctly preventing SQL Injection (with prepared statements) and also escaping output, is there any need for this extra barrier of protection? It seems to me as if I am just allowing practically every character on the keyboard, and am forgetting to allow some common characters. Is there an accepted practice for this situation? Or am I missing something obvious? Thanks.

    I have many folders in my home directory that have names that begin with special characters such as _OLD_500GB_HD or !FolderIWantToSeeAtTheTop, but for some reason these folders are sorted according to their first alphanumeric character rather than the leading special character. So how can I force the folder to not ignore the special character, or how else can I make the sort view organize certain folders at the top or bottom of the sort? Thanks.

    Does anyone know how to write a macro for a special character? I know LibreOffice currently doesn't have a way to set a special character to a keyboard shortcut. However, I want to work around this with a macro. My plan is to create a macro for a special character then set a keyboard shortcut to that macro. Problem is I don't know the first thing about writing a macro. Any one have a template or something that works? I also know about the compose key, but I guess I am lazy and want to actually insert special characters with as few keys as possible.

    Hi there, I'm trying to find a way to make dingbats appear exactly the same in Firefox, Chrome, Safari and IE. I noticed that the Dingbats appear the same in IE/Chrome/Safari, HOWEVER - in Firefox - they look "thiner". For example - try to visit the following page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dingbat You'll notice that when viewing that page in Firefox - the characters look different in comparison to Chrome/IE. Does anybody know why and how can I cause Firefox to display the characters EXACTLY like they appear in Chrome/IE? Thx, Oren.

  • Copying Chinese Characters from PDF

    I am on a Windows 7 laptop, which I believe comes pre installed with all the language packs to my knowledge. I can see Chinese characters with no issues and normally can copy them fine. (From browser to Microsoft Office works great). I have many PDFs with chinese characters in them, whenever I try to copy them and paste them into another program such as a browser, Microsoft Office, ect I just get strange foreign characters such as: This is copying a line. It is in this order: Chinese characters, pinyin (chinese in roman letters), and then the Englis translation. ,ô t¯ing w?o shu¯o listen to me The pinyin is also getting messed up, as the tonal marks (accents) about each letter are moving to a space of their own. Any ideas on to how to fix this? Thank you very much!

  • How do special folders work on Windows 7?

    Hello, I did something silly and accidentally moved my my special folders (My Documents, My Music etc.) to the Desktop. Once I noticed my mistake I quickly moved them back. But now my System acts erratically. It continuously creates new empty folders on my Desktop. And I have now two folders named "My Pictures" in my home directory. One of which is magically linked to the one in Desktop while on the command line one one is actually visible. If I delete the superfluous folders on Desktop then the explorer crashes. It is all a big mess. Of course I checked HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\User Shell Folders and it looks all ok there. So here the question: As anybody got any informations on how Windows 7 handles the special folders which might help be clean up the mess? I am well versed in using both the command line or the registry editor.

    I don't know what I installed, but I must have installed something that caused Windows to act this way. Normally when I press the button with either of the characters below ¨ ^ ~ ´ ` Windows types 2 of the character. Because of this, I cannot type in accented characters without using a keymap. Since my surname contains a diarhesis (U-umlaut), this feature is quite essential to me. Several of my friends claim to have had this problem before using Windows 7 as well, but never found a solution apart from reinstalling Windows. How do I get my beloved accented characters back?

    I have a new Western Digital My Book Live NAS. I am trying to copy files from an old drive to the NAS. I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 and I've mounted the drive by browsing the network in Nautilus and choosing a shared folder configured on the NAS. The shared folder is then automatically mounted at .gvfs/files on mybooklive. There are two problems so far: File names and directory names containing certain characters (e.g. : or |). Attempting to copy these results in the error message: cp: cannot stat `/path/to/destination.filename': Invalid argument Symbolic links. In Nautilus I get the error message: Symlinks not supported by backend My questions are: Can I connect to the NAS or configure the NAS so that I can copy my files without this problem? (In case it matters, I don't need Windows compatibility.) If not, what can I do to identify all the problem files? Can I do anything to automatically fix my filenames Please let me know if any of this needs clarification. I'm not too familiar with all of this so I may have left out some useful information.

The first two toolbar items are each singular in their function and insert the following types of text. A look at the special characters available for your use. The wiki code menu. The HTML menu… And the BB code menu. Here is a quick sample using the HTML menu…much better than doing it manually. This should definitely help speed things up throughout the day. Our only disappointment during testing was not being able to add additional items (i.e. characters, tags) to the toolbar at this time.     Hello i have a problem, im trying to open a textfile and remove all the special chars ñ Ñ ' á í etc... the file its a Layout that the clients send to me and i parse it to send the file to an AS400 server but i have to remove all special chars. THE PROBLES IS: some files with some special chars when i open it in c# it read the special chars and Two different chars and move the entire line one space to the right and then the information that has to be in that position wont be OK. i take the same file and open it in Notepad and the file is OK but when i open it in WordPad it looks like 2 chars (for just 1 especial char) Example: in the file i have: "0001 0003JUAN PEÑA33441JPENATEST" But in c# it shows "0001 0003JUAN PEï¦A33441JPENATEST" im using the encondig 1251 any help?

  • Migrating from Exchange 2003 to 2010 UID changes from 32 characters to 64 characters

    We have built a custom CRM tool that integrates with Exchange 2010 using Exchange Web Services. The issue we are encountering revolves around editing appointments through the CRM tool that were created in exchange 2003. We have migrated the sales staff from Exchange 2003 to 2010 so that we could use EWS. EWS works great except for appointments that were created prior to the migration. Those appointments created prior to the migration in Exchange 2003 cannot be modified using EWS. The reason is that the ExchangeItemUID for the appointment changed from 32 characters to 64 characters. EWS does not recognize ExchangeItemUIDs that are 32 characters. We are looking for a solution that will allow us to modify these appointments. We are open to ideas of running a script that will update all appointment events for the sales people so that 2003 appointments are converted to 2010 format. We are also open to alternate IDs as opposed to using UID. I have seen some references to using CleanGlobalObjectID, but I don't see that property in EWS. Has anyone encountered this problem before? Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated!
