  • Widgets on Samsung Star/ Samsung Corby

    Hi, I just created a new widget by following a tutorial. I created a zip containing all files and renamed it to HelloWorld.wgt instead of HelloWorld.zip. I sent it to my samsung star/corby via data cable, but when I try to open the wgt file on my phone it says it can't open it, because it doesn't know the filetype.   • Can I speed up File Sync for Ubuntu One?

    I am using ubuntu 11.04 on my home laptop and the same on my work laptop. I just wanted to sync the work folders on my home laptop to my office laptop which is ~300Mb of data. This would normally be a short download but ubuntu-one is taking forever to sync it. Any ideas what could cause this? I am not behind any firewall or anything of that sort. I have not checked the limit bandwidth box in the preferences.

  • terminal won't show in failsafex

    so after recently reinstalling some drivers I came across the issue detailed in this post How to fix "The system is running in low-graphics mode" error? I run 12.04 on my HP laptop with an Nvidia card. I went to GRUB and loaded failsafex to have the exact same problem described in the response up there, I then attempted to load the terminal, however when I do try and load the terminal I just get a blank screen and nothing else, is there any other easier way to access the terminal. I am quite new to Ubuntu.

  • Ubuntu suddenly freezes

    I've a strange problem with my ubuntu 10.04 installation. Whenever i boot into ubuntu the entire system freezes / hangs soon after (~ 2 mins in). This problem exists on my windows 7 installation too. However if i start World of Warcraft or Warcraft on windows it doesnt hang for the duration i'm playing the game. After i stop playing and exit the game my laptop hangs inside 2 mins. Here is when it gets weirder. If i disconnect the charger, the laptop doesn't hang. However when I start it in ubuntu recovery mode and drop to root shell and use the 'startx' command everything works perfectly.   • Deluge through a socks proxy server

    To use deluge I use a socks proxy server. Everything was working perfectly till now. I use the following code to create the socks server: ssh -D 1080 user@remote-server In the proxy settings of Deluge I put the host as 127.0.0.1 and port as 1080 and use socks v4 (for some reason it didn't work with socks v5). This setup was working perfectly till now. Now suddenly I cannot download any torrents. The error I get is connection timed out. I checked the remote server and it seems it is not even being used. What can the error be ?

  • How to get .cgi files working in python with Apache on Ubuntu

    I am not really sure whether to post this here or on SO. I think this has more to do with server administration so i am posting it here. I have apache 2.2 installed on my ubuntu 10.10 system with libapache2-mod-python. However when i put a .cgi file with python in it in my apache root (/var/www) it doesn't get executed and all i see is the script i have written. For example this should show the text "Test": #!/usr/bin/python print "Test" However the above script shows up in my browser. Any idea what conf files,etc. i'll have to go through and change to allow this to work ? (the file perms on test.cgi is 755 if that makes a difference.)

  • USB keyboard stopped working in Ubuntu with error -71

    I have a usb keyboard which was working perfectly till now (about a year since i have been regularly using ubuntu). It suddenly stopped working. It stopped working when I connected a USB HDD. Now the keyboard works randomly .. working for a while and then stops working for a longer time.   • Watch videos from a remote computer on the LAN on ubuntu

    I want to watch the videos on a friends computer on the LAN without having to download it. Both of us are running ubuntu. Now one way is to ssh to his computer, cd to the directory where the video is and run the falling command: cat video.avi | ssh me@mycomputer mplayer - This works. However the problem is that I cannot seek inside the video as in can't go forward or backward in it. Is there a method by which I can watch the videos and also seek in them ? I can install any software on his comp and my comp to aid this process. I have root level access on both computers. Any suggestions ?

  • Google Chrome can't load too many tabs together!

    This is an annoying problem that I face and friends of mine agree to this too. When using a site like Digg I tend to browse the page and open a lot of tabs simultaneously before reading each tab individually. Now what happens is, when there are 4-5 or more tabs loading up, all of them just stop loading.I can still see that annoying circle rotating (which means it is trying to load) but nothing happens. I have to stop the load and then refresh one tab at a time to see these pages. I never faced these problems on firefox or opera. What can the possible reasons for this be and how do I overcome this issue ? I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 and my Chrome Version is 5.0.375.55. PS: I use the internet from behind a proxy server at my college. I wonder if that could cause these problems. My friends in college also face the same problem.

  • toshiba a200 laptop hangs/freezes when plugged in

    The subject says it all. It is the exact same problem as described here. I had asked a similar question before here. My system specs etc, everything is here. My problem is just that I cannot afford to get it fixed right now. I just need for the laptop to be kind of usable for 2-3 more months. It worked perfectly for 3 months or so in ubuntu recovery mode. Now it hangs/freezes every hour. I spend 8 hours a day on an average on my laptop. So i just want it to last at least that long. If the laptop is not plugged in in recovery mode / regular ubuntu mode, it freezes in 5 mins and the screen becomes all weird. With my windows 7 OS, it works perfectly on battery but hangs instantly as soon as it is plugged in. Also now, a high cpu usage doesn't help anymore. Any strategy or suggestions i could employ to extend the duration for which it doesn't freeze ?

  • how to make the android app load faster?

    I have designed an application for android, in which i am showing a splash screen before the main activity is started but the application takes 5-7 seconds to start on low-end devices. I want to reduce that time to as low as possible. I have been trying to reduce the things to be done in onCreate() but now i cannot remove any thing more from that. I am pasting the code that i have used to show the splash and the code from MainActivity. Please help me in reducing the startup time of the application.   • getting incorrect error even if the condition is fulfilled

    I am trying to show the message based on the text shown on webpage after a particular action. If the webpage contains text MESSAGE HAS BEEN SUBMITTED SUCCESSFULLY, I want to print Message sent successfully on the screen otherwise MESSAGE SENDING FAILED. Everything is working fine but for one thing. Also check login credentials"); } bufferedReader.close(); The problem is that even if the webpage contains the text MESSAGE HAS BEEN SUBMITTED SUCCESSFULLY, the condition always goes into ELSE part and show MESSAGE SENDING FAILED but thats not true because the message has been sent and i see the MESSAGE HAS BEEN SUBMITTED SUCCESSFULLY on the webpage. Can anyone tell me where am i going wrong?

  • java Filter URL pattern specific to request params

    Hi All, We have a situation where we want to use filter for URL's containing some specific request parameters. e.g htt://mydomain.com/?id=78&formtype=simple_form&....... htt://mydomain.com/?id=788&formtype=special_form&....... and so on , id are fetched at run time, I want configure filter in web.xml only if formtype=special_form. How should achieve the solution . Can filter be configure with regex patterns? Really appreciate your help on this. Thanks, Rohit
