  • Problem with stack based implementation of function 0x42 of int 0x13

    - by IceCoder
    I'm trying a new approach to int 0x13 (just to learn more about the way the system works): using stack to create a DAP.. Assuming that DL contains the disk number, AX contains the address of the bootable entry in PT, DS is updated to the right segment and the stack is correctly set, this is the code: push DWORD 0x00000000 add ax, 0x0008 mov si, ax push DWORD [ds:(si)] push DWORD 0x00007c00 push WORD 0x0001 push WORD 0x0010 push ss pop ds mov si, sp mov sp, bp mov ah, 0x42 int 0x13 As you can see: I push the dap structure onto the stack, update DS:SI in order to point to it, DL is already set, then set AX to 0x42 and call int 0x13 the result is error 0x01 in AH and obviously CF set. No sectors are transferred. I checked the stack trace endlessly and it is ok, the partition table is ok too.. I cannot figure out what I'm missing... This is the stack trace portion of the disk address packet: 0x000079ea: 10 00 adc %al,(%bx,%si) 0x000079ec: 01 00 add %ax,(%bx,%si) 0x000079ee: 00 7c 00 add %bh,0x0(%si) 0x000079f1: 00 00 add %al,(%bx,%si) 0x000079f3: 08 00 or %al,(%bx,%si) 0x000079f5: 00 00 add %al,(%bx,%si) 0x000079f7: 00 00 add %al,(%bx,%si) 0x000079f9: 00 a0 07 be add %ah,-0x41f9(%bx,%si) I'm using qemu latest version and trying to read from hard drive (0x80), have also tried with a 4bytes alignment for the structure with the same result (CF 1 AH 0x01), the extensions are present.

  • Error:couldn't read file-Kernel panic

    - by Thanos
    I have just installed ubuntu 12.04.1. To be honest I had to run installation several times until it was finished fine. When I finally managed to install it properly, I power on the laptop and the grub shoed up! I selected ubuntu generic. It takes some time to load and when it does I get an error message stating that error: couldn't read file Press any key to continue If I press any button nothing happens. If a leave it there, in a short while there is a black screen loading which gives some weird messages [0.946710] Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block (0,0) [0.946755] Pid: 1, comm: swapper/0 Not tainted 3.2.0-29-generic #46-Ubuntu [0.946792] Call Trace: [0.946831] [<ffffffff81640ec8>] panic+0x91/0x1a4 [0.946869] [<ffffffff81cfc01e>] mount_block_root+0xdc/0x18e [0.946909] [<ffffffff81002930>] ? populate_rootfs_wait+0x300/0x9d0 [0.946947] [<ffffffff81cfc257>] mount_root+0x54/0x59 [0.946982] [<ffffffff81cfcec9>] prepare_namespace+0x16d/0x1a6 [0.947019] [<ffffffff81cfbd63>] kernel_init+0x153/0x158 [0.947094] [<ffffffff81cfbc10>] ? start_kernel+0x3bd/0x3bd [0.947129] [<ffffffff81664030>] ? gs_change+0x13/0x13 The thing is that the laptop isn't mine. A friend tried to dual boot ubuntu alongside windows 7 but he didn't succeed. Ubuntu option was in grub, but when you tried to boot it rebooted from the start. So from a Live CD I erased ubuntu, started windows to check if something went wrong, and fortunately everything was OK. Windows started normally! So I tried to install ubuntu. Before installation was completed the installer crashed! I was afraid that he would lost windows, something that was true... At that point I tried to install windows but whichever distro(XP, 7{home, proffessional, ultimate},8) I tried it could never reach the end. So I tried to reinstall ubuntu but I was facing those weird messages. What can I do to move on? ______________________________________________________________________ EDIT1: I tried to check and fix(if possible) with GParted it took a lot of hours,although gparted displays only 01:14, I restarted the system and now I get not exactly the same messages. After that his cooler became to make a weird noise so I checked and it is a bit tortuous but it is working. What I beleive must be wrong is that his HDD makes a weird noise while trying to load ubuntu, which means he might need a new HDD. Could that be true?

  • Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block 0,0

    I've read the following two solution: Kernel Panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0) kernel panic not syncing vfs unable to mount root fs on unknown block oo swapper not tainted ,but still got the same problem. Thanks for any advice.

  • IRQ problem with 2.6.32/2.6.39 kernel on Debian Squeeze x86_64

    - by MasterM
    I recently assembled a new computer so that all hardware is pretty new. Since then I've been experiencing some problem with IRQs when running Debian 6.0. On random occasions, usually after an hour or so of running I hear a beep and this shows up in dmesg: [ 3537.762795] irq 16: nobody cared (try booting with the "irqpoll" option) [ 3537.762797] Pid: 0, comm: swapper Tainted: P W O 2.6.39-2-amd64 #1 [ 3537.762798] Call Trace: [ 3537.762799] <IRQ> [<ffffffff810924d4>] ? __report_bad_irq+0x3a/0xa2 [ 3537.762803] [<ffffffff810926a4>] ? note_interrupt+0x168/0x1da [ 3537.762805] [<ffffffff81090dd4>] ? handle_irq_event_percpu+0x171/0x18f [ 3537.762807] [<ffffffff8100e0e2>] ? read_tsc+0x5/0x16 [ 3537.762809] [<ffffffff8106b8a2>] ? update_ts_time_stats+0x32/0x6b [ 3537.762810] [<ffffffff81090e26>] ? handle_irq_event+0x34/0x52 [ 3537.762812] [<ffffffff81063fb7>] ? sched_clock_idle_wakeup_event+0x12/0x1c [ 3537.762813] [<ffffffff81092df2>] ? handle_fasteoi_irq+0x82/0xa4 [ 3537.762815] [<ffffffff8100aadb>] ? handle_irq+0x1a/0x23 [ 3537.762816] [<ffffffff8100a384>] ? do_IRQ+0x45/0xaa [ 3537.762818] [<ffffffff81332c93>] ? common_interrupt+0x13/0x13 [ 3537.762818] <EOI> [<ffffffff81332c8e>] ? common_interrupt+0xe/0x13 [ 3537.762821] [<ffffffff81026800>] ? native_safe_halt+0x2/0x3 [ 3537.762829] [<ffffffffa016ed58>] ? acpi_idle_do_entry+0x39/0x62 [processor] [ 3537.762831] [<ffffffffa016edde>] ? acpi_idle_enter_c1+0x5d/0xad [processor] [ 3537.762834] [<ffffffff81261033>] ? cpuidle_idle_call+0x11f/0x1cc [ 3537.762835] [<ffffffff81008dd2>] ? cpu_idle+0xab/0xe1 [ 3537.762837] [<ffffffff8169fc60>] ? start_kernel+0x3e0/0x3eb [ 3537.762838] [<ffffffff8169f3c8>] ? x86_64_start_kernel+0x102/0x10f [ 3537.762839] handlers: [ 3537.762840] [<ffffffffa0358d5a>] (rtl8169_interrupt+0x0/0x2d7 [r8169]) [ 3537.762842] [<ffffffffa08ff2ca>] (nv_kern_isr+0x0/0x54 [nvidia]) [ 3537.762902] Disabling IRQ #16 After that Xorg either hogs on CPU or is unstable (up to hanging the system completely). When I restart Xorg everything is fine again and the problem doesn't occur until next reboot. I tried to upgrade the kernel from stock 2.6.32 to 2.6.39 from unstable repository but that didn't help. Booting with irqpoll option only seems to prolong the initial time period after which the problem occurs. I'm using latest NVIDIA drivers and Realtek firmware from firmware-realtek package. I have two GTX 560Ti that run in SLI. Disabling SLI or taking out one card completely doesn't solve the problem either.     I was read that subject : http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2011756 and i follow it step by step in the page n 1 , then i was connect but after i restart my macbook again , i was lost the wifi connection.i dont know why or whats the problem exactly. every time I run this command: dmesg | grep -e b43 -e bcma I get this output: [ 2012.769684] bcma-pci-bridge 0000:02:00.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 17 (level, low) -> IRQ 17 [ 2012.769701] bcma-pci-bridge 0000:02:00.0: setting latency timer to 64 [ 2012.769775] bcma: Core 0 found: ChipCommon (manuf 0x4BF, id 0x800, rev 0x25, class 0x0) [ 2012.769808] bcma: Core 1 found: IEEE 802.11 (manuf 0x4BF, id 0x812, rev 0x1D, class 0x0) [ 2012.769889] bcma: Core 2 found: PCIe (manuf 0x4BF, id 0x820, rev 0x13, class 0x0) [ 2012.770175] bcma: PMU resource config unknown for device 0x4331 [ 2012.824527] bcma: Bus registered [ 2012.831744] b43-phy0: Broadcom 4331 WLAN found (core revision 29) [ 2013.371031] b43-phy0: Loading firmware version 666.2 (2011-02-23 01:15:07) and to get the connection again every time i must entery that code in the step of reload driver.   • Visual C++ preprocessor definitions

    - by alemjerus
    Is there a way to transfer C++ preprocessor definitions into a custom pre-link step procedure call as a command-line parameter or export them into a file any other way? Example: Let's say, I have a c++ project, and in it's Debug configuration I put a preprocessor definition like MAKUMBA_OBA=0x13 Then I add custom pre-link step which executes some javascript like sarahjessicaparker.js /to tomsrhinoplasty $(MAKUMBA_OBA) It would be great, if it just worked, but I never get a third parameter in my js. So the question is: how to pass a preprocessor definition to s script?

  • Can't launch Oneiric x64 instance on Eucalyptus

    - by Bruno Reis
    EDIT: after many hours, I've found out that the problem has nothing to do with Eucalyptus. It looks like the image is buggy. Very, very buggy. More details in the end. I didn't manage to fix it, and I will file a bug. EDIT 2: I managed to fix it, it apparently works. I have a 4-machine cluster running Ubuntu Server Natty (11.04) x64. I've installed "Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud" from the installtion CD (then updated it) on each of these machines. The cloud seems to work fine, I have lots of virtual machines running Natty servers on them. Now I'd like to run Oneiric in a virtual machine, but somehow I can't. I downloaded Oneiric's (x64) image from http://cloud-images.ubuntu.com/oneiric/current/, published it (uec-publish-tarball oneiric-server-cloudimg-amd64.tar.gz oneiric-server-cloudimg-amd64) exactly as I did with Natty, then tried to launch an instance (euca-run-instances -n 1 -k my-key -t m1.small -z my-cloud emi-XXXXXXXX) using Oneiric's image, but the instance is not able to boot. With euca-get-console-output I get the following: [ 0.461269] VFS: Cannot open root device "sda1" or unknown-block(0,0) [ 0.462388] Please append a correct "root=" boot option; here are the available partitions: [ 0.463855] Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0) [ 0.465331] Pid: 1, comm: swapper Not tainted 3.0.0-13-generic #22-Ubuntu [ 0.466526] Call Trace: [ 0.466989] [<ffffffff815d3ee5>] panic+0x91/0x194 [ 0.467860] [<ffffffff81ad1031>] mount_block_root+0xdc/0x18e [ 0.468891] [<ffffffff81ad126a>] mount_root+0x54/0x59 [ 0.469829] [<ffffffff81ad13dc>] prepare_namespace+0x16d/0x1a7 [ 0.470883] [<ffffffff81ad0d76>] kernel_init+0x140/0x145 [ 0.471837] [<ffffffff815f38e4>] kernel_thread_helper+0x4/0x10 [ 0.472889] [<ffffffff81ad0c36>] ? start_kernel+0x3df/0x3df [ 0.473884] [<ffffffff815f38e0>] ? gs_change+0x13/0x13 The filesystem is labeled "cloudimg-rootfs", inside the image both /etc/fstab and /boot/grub/grub.cfg always refer to the image by the label, everything seems to be correct, yet the kernel says it can't find the root file system. I've spent many hours googling, but nothing came out. I've asked on #ubuntu-server, but nobody knew what to do. I've asked on #eucalyptus but got no answer at all. Any ideas on why this is happening and how to solve it? Thanks EDIT: after many hours, I've found out that the problem has nothing to do with Eucalyptus. It looks like the image is buggy. Very, very buggy. The first problem is that the Kernel in the image is a -generic kernel, while I suppose it should be a -virtual one. I chrooted into the image, removed the -generic packages, replaced it with the -virtual ones. Then I extracted the new kernel (and replaced the original one (-generic) that came with the tarball) because I need it when I publish and launch an image with Eucalyptus. The problem described above was solved. But then, the console started showing this: mount: mount point ext4 does not exist If you check the /etc/fstab file in the image, it says: LABEL=cloudimg-rootfs ext4 defaults 0 1 Damnt, where's my mount point? Note that it is missing /proc as well. Well, when you think it is over, you will notice that your instance will have no network connectivity. Let's check /etc/network/interface: # interfaces(5) file used by ifup(8) and ifdown(8) auto lo iface lo inet loopback Oh my! It is missing eth0... here I stopped. I can't take no more. I give up. Looks like Canonical has just forgotten to properly set up this image. At first, I though: "have I downloaded a server image by mistake?", but no, I double checked. It is really the cloud image, it has even "cloud-init" installed (which is not, by default, on server images). They just forgot to prepare it. I will file a bug (and reference it here once this is done), and hope they fix it soon! EDIT 2: it looks like the network configuration was the last thing missing. I decided to test it with the fixes above, and it booted properly! However, I haven't got the slightest idea if the image is now good to go...

  • Windows 7 BSOD Crashes

    - by Shane Andrade
    I recently upgraded to Windows 7 64 doing a clean install from Vista 64 and ever since I keep getting random blue screen crashes. I have the feeling it's caused by my video card but everything has the most up-to-date drivers for Windows 7 64 bit. Here is the memory dump from my most recent crash: MEMORY_MANAGEMENT (1a) # Any other values for parameter 1 must be individually examined. • Cannot open root device xvda1 or unknown-block(0,0)

    - by svoop
    I'm putting together a Dom0 and three DomU (all Gentoo) with kernel 3.5.7 and Xen 4.1.1. Each Dom has it's own md (md0 for Dom0, md1 for Dom1 etc). Dom0 works fine so far, however, I'm stuck trying to create DomUs. It appears the xvda1 device on DomU is not created or accessible: Parsing config file dom1 domainbuilder: detail: xc_dom_allocate: cmdline="root=/dev/xvda1 console=hvc0 root=/dev/xvda1 ro 3", • LSI SAS 9240-8i on Ubuntu 12.04 Hangs on Modprobe

    - by Francois Stark
    I used the LSI 9240-8i card on a smaller Intel motherboard with no problems in Ubuntu, with ZFS. However, we rebuilt the server to allow for more disks, using the ASROCK X79 Extreme 11 motherboard. It has 7 PCIe slots, and a LSI 2008 on-board. At first I thought the LSI 9240, when plugged in to PCIe, clashed with the on-board LSI 2008. Every time I plugged in the LSI 9240, modprobe would hang. Then I completely disabled the on-board LSI 2008, and the problem persisted. Last night it booted perfectly ONCE - all LSI cards and connected disks visible... However, all subsequent reboots failed. Both LSI cards' bios scans appear and they both see the disks connected to them, but Ubuntu modprobe hangs. Some selected dmesg lines, with both LSI cards enabled: [ 190.752100] megasas: [ 0]waiting for 1 commands to complete [ 195.772071] megasas: [ 5]waiting for 1 commands to complete [ 200.792079] megasas: [10]waiting for 1 commands to complete [ 205.812078] megasas: [15]waiting for 1 commands to complete [ 210.832037] megasas: [20]waiting for 1 commands to complete [ 215.852077] megasas: [25]waiting for 1 commands to complete [ 220.872072] megasas: [30]waiting for 1 commands to complete [ 225.892078] megasas: [35]waiting for 1 commands to complete [ 230.912086] megasas: [40]waiting for 1 commands to complete [ 235.932075] megasas: [45]waiting for 1 commands to complete [ 240.306157] usb 2-1.5: USB disconnect, device number 7 [ 240.952076] megasas: [50]waiting for 1 commands to complete [ 240.960034] INFO: task modprobe:233 blocked for more than 120 seconds. • Kernel oops on Linux running in VirtualBox breaks some IO-related functionality on the server

    - by Kristoffer E
    We are having problems with CentOS release 6.3 running in VirtualBox on Windows 7 machines. The symptoms are the following: Everything works as normal for several hours, even days. Then something happens which breaks the system. What we still can do after this something happens: Access the web server Use existing SSH sessions to run top and free What does not work: Starting new SSH sessions (hangs after username and password is entered) Running ls in existing SSH sessions (hangs) SSI includes from our web servers that fetch data from remote machines probably more What we see on the server when this something happens is the following: Load average go from basically nothing to around 3 CPU usage is still low (5%) Disk activity is low (running iostat) Plenty of memory available Plenty of disk space available In /var/log/messages we get the following: Jun 14 01:10:48 devvm kernel: e1000 0000:00:03.0: eth0: Detected Tx Unit Hang Jun 14 01:10:48 devvm kernel: Tx Queue <0> Jun 14 01:10:48 devvm kernel: TDH <2e> Jun 14 01:10:48 devvm kernel: TDT <30> Jun 14 01:10:48 devvm kernel: next_to_use <30> Jun 14 01:10:48 devvm kernel: next_to_clean <2e> Jun 14 01:10:48 devvm kernel: buffer_info[next_to_clean] Jun 14 01:10:48 devvm kernel: time_stamp <1038284db> Jun 14 01:10:48 devvm kernel: next_to_watch <2f> Jun 14 01:10:48 devvm kernel: jiffies <103828b42> Jun 14 01:10:48 devvm kernel: next_to_watch.status <0> Jun 14 01:10:50 devvm kernel: e1000 0000:00:03.0: eth0: Detected Tx Unit Hang Jun 14 01:10:50 devvm kernel: Tx Queue <0> Jun 14 01:10:50 devvm kernel: TDH <2e> Jun 14 01:10:50 devvm kernel: TDT <30> Jun 14 01:10:50 devvm kernel: next_to_use <30> Jun 14 01:10:50 devvm kernel: next_to_clean <2e> Jun 14 01:10:50 devvm kernel: buffer_info[next_to_clean] Jun 14 01:10:50 devvm kernel: time_stamp <1038284db> Jun 14 01:10:50 devvm kernel: next_to_watch <2f> Jun 14 01:10:50 devvm kernel: jiffies <103829312> Jun 14 01:10:50 devvm kernel: next_to_watch.status <0> Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: ------------[ cut here ]------------ Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: WARNING: at net/sched/sch_generic.c:261 dev_watchdog+0x26d/0x280() (Not tainted) Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: Hardware name: VirtualBox Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth0 (e1000): transmit queue 0 timed out Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: Modules linked in: vboxsf(U) ipv6 ppdev parport_pc parport microcode sg vboxguest(U) i2c_piix4 i2c_core e1000 snd_intel8x0 snd_ac97_codec ac97_bus snd_seq snd_seq_device snd_pcm snd_timer snd soundcore snd_page_alloc pcnet32 mii ext4 mbcache jbd2 sd_mod crc_t10dif ahci dm_mirror dm_region_hash dm_log dm_mod [last unloaded: scsi_wait_scan] Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: Pid: 0, comm: swapper Not tainted 2.6.32-279.el6.x86_64 #1 Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: Call Trace: Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: <IRQ> [<ffffffff8106b747>] ? warn_slowpath_common+0x87/0xc0 Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: [<ffffffff8106b836>] ? warn_slowpath_fmt+0x46/0x50 Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: [<ffffffff814595fd>] ? dev_watchdog+0x26d/0x280 Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: [<ffffffff81099138>] ? sched_clock_cpu+0xb8/0x110 Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: [<ffffffff81459390>] ? dev_watchdog+0x0/0x280 Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: [<ffffffff8107e897>] ? run_timer_softirq+0x197/0x340 Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: [<ffffffff810a21c0>] ? tick_sched_timer+0x0/0xc0 Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: [<ffffffff8102b40d>] ? lapic_next_event+0x1d/0x30 Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: [<ffffffff81073ec1>] ? __do_softirq+0xc1/0x1e0 Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: [<ffffffff81096c50>] ? hrtimer_interrupt+0x140/0x250 Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: [<ffffffff8100c24c>] ? call_softirq+0x1c/0x30 Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: [<ffffffff8100de85>] ? do_softirq+0x65/0xa0 Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: [<ffffffff81073ca5>] ? irq_exit+0x85/0x90 Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: [<ffffffff81505be0>] ? smp_apic_timer_interrupt+0x70/0x9b Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: [<ffffffff8100bc13>] ? apic_timer_interrupt+0x13/0x20 Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: <EOI> [<ffffffff810387cb>] ? native_safe_halt+0xb/0x10 Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: [<ffffffff810149cd>] ? default_idle+0x4d/0xb0 Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: [<ffffffff81009e06>] ? cpu_idle+0xb6/0x110 Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: [<ffffffff814e433a>] ? rest_init+0x7a/0x80 Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: [<ffffffff81c21f7b>] ? start_kernel+0x424/0x430 Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: [<ffffffff81c2133a>] ? x86_64_start_reservations+0x125/0x129 Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: [<ffffffff81c21438>] ? x86_64_start_kernel+0xfa/0x109 Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: ---[ end trace 2c7bb984812cf120 ]--- Jun 14 01:10:52 devvm kernel: e1000 0000:00:03.0: eth0: Reset adapter Jun 14 01:10:53 devvm abrtd: Directory 'oops-2013-06-14-01:10:53-1537-0' creation detected Jun 14 01:10:53 devvm abrt-dump-oops: Reported 1 kernel oopses to Abrt Jun 14 01:10:53 devvm abrtd: Can't open file '/var/spool/abrt/oops-2013-06-14-01:10:53-1537-0/uid': No such file or directory Jun 14 01:10:55 devvm kernel: Bridge firewalling registered After this we see for a while, every two minutes: Jun 14 01:14:22 devvm kernel: INFO: task events/0:19 blocked for more than 120 seconds.   • C#: How to parse a hexadecimal digit

    - by Biosci3c
    Okay, I am working on a card playing program, and I am storing card values as hexadecimal digits. Here is the array: public int[] originalCards = new int[54] { 0x11, 0x12, 0x13, 0x14, 0x15, 0x16, 0x17, 0x18, 0x19, 0x1A, 0x1B, 0x1C, 0x1D, 0x21, 0x22, 0x23, 0x24, 0x25, 0x26, 0x27, 0x28, 0x29, 0x2A, 0x2B, 0x2C, 0x2D, 0x31, 0x32, 0x33, 0x34, 0x35, 0x36, 0x37, 0x38, 0x39, 0x3A, 0x3B, 0x3C, 0x3D, 0x41, 0x42, 0x43, 0x44, 0x45, 0x46, 0x47, 0x48, 0x49, 0x4A, 0x4B, 0x4C, 0x4D, 0x50, 0x51 }; The first digit refers to the suit (1 = spades; 2 = clubs; .... 5 = Jokers) The second digit is the number of the card (1 = ace, 5 = 5; 13 = K, etc). I would like to do something like the following: Pseudocode: public int ReturnCard(int num) { int card = currentDeck[num]; int suit = card.firsthexdigit; int value = card.secondhexdigit; return 0; } I don't need a new method to work on ints, I just included it for clarity's sake. Anybody know how to do this in C#?

  • Learning AES: the KeyBytes

    - by Tom Brito
    I got the following example from here: import java.security.Security; import javax.crypto.Cipher; import javax.crypto.spec.SecretKeySpec; public class MainClass { public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception { Security.addProvider(new org.bouncycastle.jce.provider.BouncyCastleProvider()); byte[] input = "www.java2s.com".getBytes(); byte[] keyBytes = new byte[] { 0x00, 0x01, 0x02, 0x03, 0x04, 0x05, 0x06, 0x07, 0x08, 0x09, 0x0a, 0x0b, 0x0c, 0x0d, 0x0e, 0x0f, 0x10, 0x11, 0x12, 0x13, 0x14, 0x15, 0x16, 0x17 }; SecretKeySpec key = new SecretKeySpec(keyBytes, "AES"); Cipher cipher = Cipher.getInstance("AES/ECB/PKCS7Padding", "BC"); System.out.println(new String(input)); // encryption pass cipher.init(Cipher.ENCRYPT_MODE, key); byte[] cipherText = new byte[cipher.getOutputSize(input.length)]; int ctLength = cipher.update(input, 0, input.length, cipherText, 0); ctLength += cipher.doFinal(cipherText, ctLength); System.out.println(new String(cipherText)); System.out.println(ctLength); // decryption pass cipher.init(Cipher.DECRYPT_MODE, key); byte[] plainText = new byte[cipher.getOutputSize(ctLength)]; int ptLength = cipher.update(cipherText, 0, ctLength, plainText, 0); ptLength += cipher.doFinal(plainText, ptLength); System.out.println(new String(plainText)); System.out.println(ptLength); } } I imagine that the byte[] keyBytes should be random generated, so I gone to test the max size before do it. When adding one more byte 0x18 to the array, the exception raised: InvalidKeyException: Key length not 128/192/256 bits. But the original 18 bytes (from 0 to 17) are not multiple of nither 128, 192 or 256. I would like to understand the math here.. can anyone explain me? Thanks!

  • Trouble with C# array

    - by Biosci3c
    Hi, I am writing a card playing program as a way of learning C#. I ran into an issue with an array going out of bounds. Here is my code: namespace Pcardconsole { class Deck { public Deck() { // Assign standard deck to new deck object int j; for (int i = 0; i != CurrentDeck.Length; i++) { CurrentDeck[i] = originalCards[i]; } // Fisher-Yates Shuffling Algorithim Random rnd = new Random(); for (int k = CurrentDeck.Length - 1; k >= 0; k++) { int r = rnd.Next(0, k + 1); int tmp = CurrentDeck[k]; CurrentDeck[k] = CurrentDeck[r]; CurrentDeck[r] = tmp; // Console.WriteLine(i); } } public void Shuffle() { // TODO } // public int[] ReturnCards() // { // TODO // } public int[] originalCards = new int[54] { 0x11, 0x12, 0x13, 0x14, 0x15, 0x16, 0x17, 0x18, 0x19, 0x1A, 0x1B, 0x1C, 0x1D, 0x21, 0x22, 0x23, 0x24, 0x25, 0x26, 0x27, 0x28, 0x29, 0x2A, 0x2B, 0x2C, 0x2D, 0x31, 0x32, 0x33, 0x34, 0x35, 0x36, 0x37, 0x38, 0x39, 0x3A, 0x3B, 0x3C, 0x3D, 0x41, 0x42, 0x43, 0x44, 0x45, 0x46, 0x47, 0x48, 0x49, 0x4A, 0x4B, 0x4C, 0x4D, 0x50, 0x51 }; public int[] CurrentDeck = new int[54]; } class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { // Create a Deck object Deck mainDeck = new Deck(); Console.WriteLine("Here is the card array:"); for (int index = 0; index != mainDeck.CurrentDeck.Length; index++) { string card = mainDeck.CurrentDeck[index].ToString("x"); Console.WriteLine("0x" + card); } } } The hexidecimal numbers stand for different cards. When I compile it I get an array index out of bounds error, and a crash. I don't understand what is wrong. Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Doubts in executable and relocatable object file

    - by bala1486
    Hello, I have written a simple Hello World program. #include <stdio.h> int main() { printf("Hello World"); return 0; } I wanted to understand how the relocatable object file and executable file look like. One thing i don't understand is why is it 13. That means call the function at adresss 13, right??. 13 has the next instruction, right?? Please explain me what does this mean?? • NASM - Load code from USB Drive

    - by new123456
    Hola, Would any assembly gurus know the argument (register dl) that signifies the first USB drive? I'm working through a couple of NASM tutorials, and would like to get a physical boot (I can get a clean one with qemu). This is the section of code that loads the "kernel" data from disk: loadkernel: mov si, LMSG ;; 'Loading kernel',13,10,0 call prints ;; ex puts() mov dl, 0x00 ;; The disk to load from mov ah, 0x02 ;; Read operation mov al, 0x01 ;; Sectors to read mov ch, 0x00 ;; Track mov cl, 0x02 ;; Sector mov dh, 0x00 ;; Head mov bx, 0x2000 ;; Buffer end mov es, bx mov bx, 0x0000 ;; Buffer start int 0x13 jc loadkernel mov ax, 0x2000 mov ds, ax jmp 0x2000:0x00 If it makes any difference, I'm running a stock Dell Inspiron 15 BIOS. Apparently, the correct value for me is 0x80. The BIOS loads the hard drives and labels them starting at 0x80 according to this answer. My particular BIOS decides to load the USB drive up as the first, for some reason, so I can boot from there.

  • How can I log any login operation in case of "Remember Me" option ?

    - by Space Cracker
    I have an asp.net login web form that have ( username textBox - password textBox ) plus Remember Me CheckBox option When user login i do the below code if (provider.ValidateUser(username, password)) { int timeOut = 0x13; DateTime expireDate = DateTime.Now.AddMinutes(19.0); if (rememberMeCheckBox.Checked) { timeOut = 0x80520; expireDate = DateTime.Now.AddYears(1); } FormsAuthenticationTicket ticket = new FormsAuthenticationTicket(username, true, timeOut); string cookieValue = FormsAuthentication.Encrypt(ticket); HttpCookie cookie = new HttpCookie(FormsAuthentication.FormsCookieName, cookieValue); cookie.Expires = expireDate; HttpContext.Current.Response.Cookies.Add(cookie); AddForLogin(username); Response.Redirect("..."); } as in code after user is authenticated i log that he login in db by calling method AddForLogin(username); But if user choose remember me in login and then he try to go to site any time this login method isn't executed as it use cookies ... so i have many questions: 1- Is this the best way to log login operation or is there any other better ? 2- In my case how to log login operation in case of remember me chosen by user ?

  • Creating packages in code – Execute SQL Task

    The Execute SQL Task is for obvious reasons very well used, so I thought if you are building packages in code the chances are you will be using it. Using the task basic features of the task are quite straightforward, add the task and set some properties, just like any other. When you start interacting with variables though it can be a little harder to grasp so these samples should see you through. Some of these more advanced features are explained in much more detail in our ever popular post The Execute SQL Task, here I’ll just be showing you how to implement them in code. The abbreviated code blocks below demonstrate the different features of the task. The complete code has been encapsulated into a sample class which you can download (ExecSqlPackage.cs). Each feature described has its own method in the sample class which is mentioned after the code block. This first sample just shows adding the task, setting the basic properties for a connection and of course an SQL statement. Package package = new Package(); // Add the SQL OLE-DB connection ConnectionManager sqlConnection = AddSqlConnection(package, "localhost", "master"); // Add the SQL Task package.Executables.Add("STOCK:SQLTask"); // Get the task host wrapper TaskHost taskHost = package.Executables[0] as TaskHost; // Set required properties taskHost.Properties["Connection"].SetValue(taskHost, sqlConnection.ID); taskHost.Properties["SqlStatementSource"].SetValue(taskHost, "SELECT * FROM sysobjects"); For the full version of this code, see the CreatePackage method in the sample class. The AddSqlConnection method is a helper method that adds an OLE-DB connection to the package, it is of course in the sample class file too. Returning a single value with a Result Set The following sample takes a different approach, getting a reference to the ExecuteSQLTask object task itself, rather than just using the non-specific TaskHost as above. Whilst it means we need to add an extra reference to our project (Microsoft.SqlServer.SQLTask) it makes coding much easier as we have compile time validation of any property and types we use. For the more complex properties that is very valuable and saves a lot of time during development. The query has also been changed to return a single value, one row and one column. The sample shows how we can return that value into a variable, which we also add to our package in the code. To do this manually you would set the Result Set property on the General page to Single Row and map the variable on the Result Set page in the editor. Package package = new Package(); // Add the SQL OLE-DB connection ConnectionManager sqlConnection = AddSqlConnection(package, "localhost", "master"); // Add the SQL Task package.Executables.Add("STOCK:SQLTask"); // Get the task host wrapper TaskHost taskHost = package.Executables[0] as TaskHost; // Add variable to hold result value package.Variables.Add("Variable", false, "User", 0); // Get the task object ExecuteSQLTask task = taskHost.InnerObject as ExecuteSQLTask; // Set core properties task.Connection = sqlConnection.Name; task.SqlStatementSource = "SELECT id FROM sysobjects WHERE name = 'sysrowsets'"; // Set single row result set task.ResultSetType = ResultSetType.ResultSetType_SingleRow; // Add result set binding, map the id column to variable task.ResultSetBindings.Add(); IDTSResultBinding resultBinding = task.ResultSetBindings.GetBinding(0); resultBinding.ResultName = "id"; resultBinding.DtsVariableName = "User::Variable"; For the full version of this code, see the CreatePackageResultVariable method in the sample class. The other types of Result Set behaviour are just a variation on this theme, set the property and map the result binding as required. Parameter Mapping for SQL Statements This final example uses a parameterised SQL statement, with the coming from a variable. The syntax varies slightly between connection types, as explained in the Working with Parameters and Return Codes in the Execute SQL Taskhelp topic, but OLE-DB is the most commonly used, for which a question mark is the parameter value placeholder. Package package = new Package(); // Add the SQL OLE-DB connection ConnectionManager sqlConnection = AddSqlConnection(package, ".", "master"); // Add the SQL Task package.Executables.Add("STOCK:SQLTask"); // Get the task host wrapper TaskHost taskHost = package.Executables[0] as TaskHost; // Get the task object ExecuteSQLTask task = taskHost.InnerObject as ExecuteSQLTask; // Set core properties task.Connection = sqlConnection.Name; task.SqlStatementSource = "SELECT id FROM sysobjects WHERE name = ?"; // Add variable to hold parameter value package.Variables.Add("Variable", false, "User", "sysrowsets"); // Add input parameter binding task.ParameterBindings.Add(); IDTSParameterBinding parameterBinding = task.ParameterBindings.GetBinding(0); parameterBinding.DtsVariableName = "User::Variable"; parameterBinding.ParameterDirection = ParameterDirections.Input; parameterBinding.DataType = (int)OleDBDataTypes.VARCHAR; parameterBinding.ParameterName = "0"; parameterBinding.ParameterSize = 255; For the full version of this code, see the CreatePackageParameterVariable method in the sample class. You’ll notice the data type has to be specified for the parameter IDTSParameterBinding .DataType Property, and these type codes are connection specific too. My enumeration I wrote several years ago is shown below was probably done by reverse engineering a package and also the API header file, but I recently found a very handy post that covers more connections as well for exactly this, Setting the DataType of IDTSParameterBinding objects (Execute SQL Task). /// <summary> /// Enumeration of OLE-DB types, used when mapping OLE-DB parameters. /// </summary> private enum OleDBDataTypes { BYTE = 0x11, CURRENCY = 6, DATE = 7, DB_VARNUMERIC = 0x8b, DBDATE = 0x85, DBTIME = 0x86, DBTIMESTAMP = 0x87, DECIMAL = 14, DOUBLE = 5, FILETIME = 0x40, FLOAT = 4, GUID = 0x48, LARGE_INTEGER = 20, LONG = 3, NULL = 1, NUMERIC = 0x83, NVARCHAR = 130, SHORT = 2, SIGNEDCHAR = 0x10, ULARGE_INTEGER = 0x15, ULONG = 0x13, USHORT = 0x12, VARCHAR = 0x81, VARIANT_BOOL = 11 } Download Sample code ExecSqlPackage.cs (10KB)

  • SetWindowLong in CustomDraw causes unhandled exception

    - by neeul
    Hello, I am making some changes to a CSliderCtrl using the Custom Draw, the control is to be used in a dialog. Here is the structure: In my MessageMap I have : ON_NOTIFY_REFLECT_EX(NM_CUSTOMDRAW, OnNMCustomdraw) The OnNMCustomdraw method looks like the following: BOOL CCustomSliderCtrl::OnNMCustomdraw(NMHDR *pNMHDR, LRESULT *pResult) { *pResult = CDRF_DODEFAULT; LPNMCUSTOMDRAW pNMCD = reinterpret_cast<LPNMCUSTOMDRAW>(pNMHDR); switch(pNMCD->dwDrawStage) { case CDDS_PREPAINT: { //Dialogs don't receive CDRF_NOTIFYITEMDRAW notifcations by returning it as part of pResult, we must //use the following so we ensure we receive the msg SetWindowLong(pNMHDR->hwndFrom, DWL_MSGRESULT, CDRF_NOTIFYITEMDRAW); return TRUE; } case CDDS_ITEMPREPAINT: if(pNMCD->dwItemSpec == TBCD_CHANNEL) { ...SNIP... SetWindowLong(pNMHDR->hwndFrom, DWL_MSGRESULT, CDRF_SKIPDEFAULT); return TRUE; } } return FALSE; } Reading around I learnt that you had to use SetWindowLong to set the return value for the custom draw, otherwise your method will not always receive the CDDS_ITEMPREPAINT message. However, when using SetWindowLong my application will never receive the CDDS_ITEMPREPAINT and so my slider just looks like a standard slider. The application crashes when any sort of interaction takes place upon the slider, such as hovering over it or minimizing and maximizing the dialog. I snipped the TBCD_CHANNEL code as it is never reached. When running in debug mode, it crashes at the end of the AfxUnlockGlobals method, in afxcrit.cpp. Here is a stack trace: Update: Since adding debug symbols, the crash seems to be picked up at CWnd::DefWindowProc mwthod. comctl32.dll!_TrackBarWndProc@16() + 0x551 bytes user32.dll!_InternalCallWinProc@20() + 0x28 bytes user32.dll!_UserCallWinProcCheckWow@32() + 0xb7 bytes user32.dll!_CallWindowProcAorW@24() + 0x51 bytes user32.dll!_CallWindowProcW@20() + 0x1b bytes mfc90ud.dll!CWnd::DefWindowProcW(unsigned int nMsg=15, unsigned int wParam=0, long lParam=0) Line 1043 + 0x20 bytes C++ mfc90ud.dll!CWnd::WindowProc(unsigned int message=15, unsigned int wParam=0, long lParam=0) Line 1756 + 0x1c bytes C++ mfc90ud.dll!AfxCallWndProc(CWnd * pWnd=0x0012fdbc, HWND__ * hWnd=0x000308fe, unsigned int nMsg=15, unsigned int wParam=0, long lParam=0) Line 240 + 0x1c bytes C++ mfc90ud.dll!AfxWndProc(HWND__ * hWnd=0x000308fe, unsigned int nMsg=15, unsigned int wParam=0, long lParam=0) Line 403 C++ mfc90ud.dll!AfxWndProcBase(HWND__ * hWnd=0x000308fe, unsigned int nMsg=15, unsigned int wParam=0, long lParam=0) Line 441 + 0x15 bytes C++ user32.dll!_InternalCallWinProc@20() + 0x28 bytes user32.dll!_UserCallWinProcCheckWow@32() + 0xb7 bytes user32.dll!_DispatchClientMessage@20() + 0x4d bytes user32.dll!___fnDWORD@4() + 0x24 bytes ntdll.dll!_KiUserCallbackDispatcher@12() + 0x13 bytes user32.dll!_NtUserDispatchMessage@4() + 0xc bytes user32.dll!_DispatchMessageW@4() + 0xf bytes mfc90ud.dll!AfxInternalPumpMessage() Line 183 C++ mfc90ud.dll!CWinThread::PumpMessage() Line 900 C++ mfc90ud.dll!AfxPumpMessage() Line 190 + 0xd bytes C++ mfc90ud.dll!CWnd::RunModalLoop(unsigned long dwFlags=4) Line 4386 + 0x5 bytes C++ mfc90ud.dll!CDialog::DoModal() Line 584 + 0xc bytes C++ SetSelection.exe!CSetSelectionApp::InitInstance() Line 64 + 0xb bytes C++ mfc90ud.dll!AfxWinMain(HINSTANCE__ * hInstance=0x00400000, HINSTANCE__ * hPrevInstance=0x00000000, wchar_t * lpCmdLine=0x00020a84, int nCmdShow=1) Line 37 + 0xd bytes C++ SetSelection.exe!wWinMain(HINSTANCE__ * hInstance=0x00400000, HINSTANCE__ * hPrevInstance=0x00000000, wchar_t * lpCmdLine=0x00020a84, int nCmdShow=1) Line 34 C++ SetSelection.exe!__tmainCRTStartup() Line 578 + 0x35 bytes C SetSelection.exe!wWinMainCRTStartup() Line 403 C kernel32.dll!_BaseProcessStart@4() + 0x23 bytes So, does anyone have any insight into this matter?   • ASP.NET Web Service - how to handle special characters in strings?

    - by Vlorg
    To show this fundamental issue in .NET and the reason for this question, I have written a simple test web service with one method (EditString), and a consumer console app that calls it. They are both standard web service/console applications created via File/New Project, etc., so I won't list the whole code - just the methods in question: Web method: [WebMethod] public string EditString(string s, bool useSpecial) { return s + (useSpecial ? ((char)19).ToString() : ""); } [You can see it simply returns the string s if useSpecial is false. If useSpecial is true, it returns s + char 19.] Console app: TestService.Service1 service = new SCTestConsumer.TestService.Service1(); string response1 = service.EditString("hello", false); Console.WriteLine(response1); string response2 = service.EditString("hello", true); // fails! Console.WriteLine(response2); [The second response fails, because the method returns hello + a special character (ascii code 19 for argument's sake).] The error is: There is an error in XML document (1, 287) Inner exception: "'', hexadecimal value 0x13, is an invalid character. Line 1, position 287." A few points worth mentioning: The web method itself WORKS FINE when browsing directly to the ASMX file (e.g. http://localhost:2065/service1.asmx), and running the method through this (with the same parameters as in the console application) - i.e. displays XML with the string hello + char 19. Checking the serialized XML in other ways shows the special character is being encoded properly (the SERVER SIDE seems to be ok which is GOOD) So it seems the CLIENT SIDE has the issue - i.e. the .NET generated proxy class code doesn't handle special characters This is part of a bigger project where objects are passed in and out of the web methods - that contain string attributes - these are what need to work properly. i.e. we're de/serializing classes. Any suggestions for a workaround and how to implement it? Or have I completely missed something really obvious!!? Thanks in advance... PS. I've not had much luck with getting it to use CDATA tags (does .NET support these out of the box?).

  • Static background noise while using new headset Ubuntu 13.04

    - by ThundLayr
    Today I bought a new gaming headset (Gx-Gaming Lychas), and when I tried to record some gameplay-comentary I noticed that there always is a static background noise, I just recorded an example so you guys can listen it (no downloaded needed): http://www47.zippyshare.com/v/65167832/file.html I'm using Kubuntu 13.04 and Kernel version is 3.8.0-19, my laptop is an Acer Travelmate 5760Z, I tried tons of configurations on Alsamixer and none of them made result, I really need to get this working so any kind of help will be very aprecciated. cat /proc/asound/cards: 0 [PCH ]: HDA-Intel - HDA
