  • SQL Server script commands to check if object exists and drop it

    - by deadlydog
    Over the past couple years I’ve been keeping track of common SQL Server script commands that I use so I don’t have to constantly Google them.  Most of them are how to check if a SQL object exists before dropping it.  I thought others might find these useful to have them all in one place, so here you go: 1: --=============================== 2: -- Create a new table and add keys and constraints 3: --=============================== 4: IF NOT EXISTS (SELECT * FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLES WHERE TABLE_NAME = 'TableName' AND TABLE_SCHEMA='dbo') 5: BEGIN 6: CREATE TABLE [dbo].[TableName] 7: ( 8: [ColumnName1] INT NOT NULL, -- To have a field auto-increment add IDENTITY(1,1) 9: [ColumnName2] INT NULL, 10: [ColumnName3] VARCHAR(30) NOT NULL DEFAULT('') 11: ) 12: 13: -- Add the table's primary key 14: ALTER TABLE [dbo].[TableName] ADD CONSTRAINT [PK_TableName] PRIMARY KEY NONCLUSTERED 15: ( 16: [ColumnName1], 17: [ColumnName2] 18: ) 19: 20: -- Add a foreign key constraint 21: ALTER TABLE [dbo].[TableName] WITH CHECK ADD CONSTRAINT [FK_Name] FOREIGN KEY 22: ( 23: [ColumnName1], 24: [ColumnName2] 25: ) 26: REFERENCES [dbo].[Table2Name] 27: ( 28: [OtherColumnName1], 29: [OtherColumnName2] 30: ) 31: 32: -- Add indexes on columns that are often used for retrieval 33: CREATE INDEX IN_ColumnNames ON [dbo].[TableName] 34: ( 35: [ColumnName2], 36: [ColumnName3] 37: ) 38: 39: -- Add a check constraint 40: ALTER TABLE [dbo].[TableName] WITH CHECK ADD CONSTRAINT [CH_Name] CHECK (([ColumnName] >= 0.0000)) 41: END 42: 43: --=============================== 44: -- Add a new column to an existing table 45: --=============================== 46: IF NOT EXISTS (SELECT * FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.COLUMNS where TABLE_SCHEMA='dbo' 47: AND TABLE_NAME = 'TableName' AND COLUMN_NAME   • Does this language feature already exists?

    - by Pindatjuh
    I'm currently developing a new language for programming in a continuous environment (compare it to electrical engineering), and I've got some ideas on a certain language construction. Let me explain the feature by explanation and then by definition; x = a | b; Where x is a variable and a and b are other variables (or static values). if(x == a) { // all references to "x" are essentially references to "a". } if(x == b) { // same but with "b" } if(x != a) { // ... } if(x == a | b) { // guaranteed that "x" is '"a" | "b"'; interacting with "x" // will interact with both "a" and "b". } // etc. In the above, all code-blocks are executed, but the "scope" changes in each block how x is interpreted. In the first block, x is guaranteed to be a: thus interacting with x inside that block will interact on a. The second and the third code-block are only equal in this situation (because not b only remains a). The last block guarantees that x is at least a or b. Further more; | is not the "bitwise or operator", but I've called it the "and/or"-operator. It's definition is: "|" = "and" | "or" (On my blog, http://cplang.wordpress.com/2009/12/19/binop-and-or/, is more (mathematical) background information on this operator. It's loosely based on sets.) I do not know if this construction already exists, so that's my question: does this language feature already exists?

  • SQL SERVER – Check If Column Exists in SQL Server Table

    - by Pinal Dave
    A very frequent task among SQL developers is to check if any specific column exists in the database table or not. Based on the output developers perform various tasks. Here are couple of simple tricks which you can use to check if column exists in your database table or not. Method 1 IF EXISTS(SELECT * FROM sys.columns WHERE Name = N'columnName' AND OBJECT_ID = OBJECT_ID(N'tableName')) BEGIN PRINT 'Your Column Exists' END   For AdventureWorks sample database IF EXISTS(SELECT * FROM sys.columns WHERE Name = N'Name' AND OBJECT_ID = OBJECT_ID(N'[HumanResources].[Department]')) BEGIN PRINT 'Your Column Exists' END   Method 2 IF COL_LENGTH('table_name','column_name') IS NOT NULL BEGIN PRINT 'Your Column Exists' END For AdventureWorks sample database IF COL_LENGTH('[HumanResources].[Department]','Name') IS NOT NULL BEGIN PRINT 'Your Column Exists' END Method 3 IF EXISTS( SELECT TOP 1 * FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.COLUMNS WHERE [TABLE_NAME] = 'TableName' AND [COLUMN_NAME] = 'ColumnName' AND [TABLE_SCHEMA] = 'SchemaName') BEGIN PRINT 'Your Column Exists' END For AdventureWorks sample database IF EXISTS( SELECT TOP 1 * FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.COLUMNS WHERE [TABLE_NAME] = 'Department' AND [COLUMN_NAME] = 'Name' AND [TABLE_SCHEMA] = 'HumanResources') BEGIN PRINT 'Your Column Exists' END Let me know if you know any other method to find if Column Exists in SQL Server Table. • PerformanceCounterCategory.Exists is very slow if category doesn't exists

    - by Shrike
    I have kind of library which uses a bunch of its own perf counters. But I want my library works fine even if that perf counters weren't installed. So I've created wrappers aroung PerformanceCounter and on the first use check if PerfCounter exists or not. If they exists then I'm using native PerformanceCounter instead I'm using a wrapper which do nothing. So to check perf counter existence I use PerformanceCounterCategory.Exists The problem is that if there isn't such category then PerformanceCounterCategory.Exists call takes (on my machine) about 10 seconds! Needless to say it's too slow. What can I do? Code to try it by youself: using System; using System.Diagnostics; class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { var ts = Stopwatch.StartNew(); var res = PerformanceCounterCategory.Exists("XYZ"); Console.WriteLine(ts.ElapsedMilliseconds); Console.WriteLine("result:" + res); } }

  • mysql master slave "table already exists" but table not exists

    I have 1 master mysql process, and 2 slave. Today on both slaves i see : Error 'Table 'bgbilling.contract_status_balance_dump' already exists' on query. Default database: 'bgbilling'. Query: 'CREATE TABLE contract_status_balance_dump( UNIQUE(cid) ) SELECT cid, MAX(yy*12+(mm-1))%12 + 1 AS mm,FLOOR(MAX(yy*12+(mm-1)) / 12) AS yy FROM contract_balance GROUP BY cid' "show tables" does not show this table. I tryed stop slave , and do "drop table contract_status_balance_dump" but: ERROR 1051 (42S02): Unknown table 'contract_status_balance_dump' How its possible? And how fix that?

  • mysqldump parameter to ensure DROP VIEW IF EXISTS rather than incorrect DROP TABLE IF EXISTS

    - by doublejosh
    Wonder if there is a parameter I can pass in mmysqldump equivalent for SQL Servery mysqldump that will make the incorrect "DROP TABLE IF EXISTS" statements into "DROP VIEW IF EXISTS", so that populating a database in an automated development environment refresh will work? Clarification, I'm getting DROP TABLE IF EXISTS statements in my .sql dump file even though they aren't tables. FYI: This is a Drupal site. The tables in question are ubercart meta statistics tables.

  • If url exists Objective-c

    - by HiGuy Smith
    Hey, I have a program that needs to tell if an online image exists, but the only way that I've gotten this to work is by loading the image in a NSData pointer and checking if the pointer exists. - (BOOL)exists { NSString *filePath = @"http://couleeapps.hostei.com/BottomBox.png"; NSURL *url = [NSURL URLWithString:filePath]; NSData *imageData = [NSData dataWithContentsOfURL:url]; if (imageData) { return YES; } return NO; } This has worked for me, but my problem is that I have a very slow connection, and it takes forever to download the image. So my question is: is there a way to check if a image (say "http://couleeapps.hostei.com/BottomBox.png") is available without having to download it? Help is much appreciated HiGuy

  • File.Exists() returns false, but not in debug

    - by Tor Haugen
    I'm being completely confused here folks, My code throws an exception because File.Exists() returns false public override sealed TCargo ReadFile(string fileName) { if (!File.Exists(fileName)) { throw new ArgumentException("Provided file name does not exist", "fileName"); } Visual studio breaks at the throw statement, and I immediately check the value of File.Exists(fileName) in the immediate window. It returns true. When I drag the breakpoint back up to the if statement and execute it again, it throws again. fileName is an absolute path to a file. I'm not creating the file, nor writing to it (it's there all along). If I paste the path into the open dialog in Notepad, it reads the file without problems. The code is executing in a background worker. It's the only complicating factor I can think of. I am positive the file has not been opened already, either in the worker thread or elsewhere. What's going on here?

  • Merging exists and not exists into one query - oracle magic

    - by stic
    Hi, In a WHERE part of query we have SELECT * FROM SomeTable st WHERE NOT EXISTS (SELECT 1 FROM Tab t1 WHERE t1.A = st.A OR t1.B = st.A) OR EXISTS (SELECT 1 FROM Tab t2 WHERE (t2.A = st.A OR t2.B = st.A) AND t2.C IS NULL) Seems like a good candidate for merging... But I'm staring on that for an hour without any idea. Would you have some thoughts? Thanks,

  • MS-Access nested DIR - check if a file exists elsewhere whilst looping through a folder

    - by David Carle
    I have used the DIR() command in Microsoft Access 2003 to loop through the files in folder A. This works fine, but I need to check if each file also exists in another location (folder B), and only process the file if it doesn't exist in folder B. The problem is that checking for the file existing in folder B also uses the DIR() function and this then resets or confuses the original one, with the result that no further files are found in folder A. Is there a way to check if a file exists without using DIR? Or, is there a way to have a separate instance of DIR? I suppose I could build a list of the files in folder A into an array and then process the entries in the array, but this seems rather 'clunky' Any suggestions for a better solution? Thanks

  • Check if row already exists, if so tell the referenced table the id

    - by flhe
    Let's assume I have a table magazine: CREATE TABLE magazine ( magazine_id integer NOT NULL DEFAULT nextval(('public.magazine_magazine_id_seq'::text)::regclass), longname character varying(1000), shortname character varying(200), issn character varying(9), CONSTRAINT pk_magazine PRIMARY KEY (magazine_id) ); And another table issue: CREATE TABLE issue ( issue_id integer NOT NULL DEFAULT nextval(('public.issue_issue_id_seq'::text)::regclass), number integer, year integer, volume integer, fk_magazine_id integer, CONSTRAINT pk_issue PRIMARY KEY (issue_id), CONSTRAINT fk_magazine_id FOREIGN KEY (fk_magazine_id) REFERENCES magazine (magazine_id) MATCH SIMPLE ON UPDATE NO ACTION ON DELETE NO ACTION ); Current INSERTS: INSERT INTO magazine (longname,shotname,issn) VALUES ('a long name','ee','1111-2222'); INSERT INTO issue (fk_magazine_id,number,year,volume) VALUES (currval('magazine_magazine_id_seq'),'8','1982','6'); Now a row should only be inserted into 'magazine', if it does not already exist. However if it exists, the table 'issue' needs to get the 'magazine_id' of the row that already exists in order to establish the reference. How can i do this? Thx in advance!

  • SQL: Return "true" if list of records exists?

    - by User
    An alternative title might be: Check for existence of multiple rows? Using a combination of SQL and C# I want a method to return true if all products in a list exist in a table. If it can be done in all in SQL that would be preferable. I have written a method that returns whether a single productID exists using the following SQL: SELECT productID FROM Products WHERE ProductID = @productID If this returns a row, then the c# method returns true, false otherwise. Now I'm wondering if I have a list of product IDs (not a huge list mind you, normally under 20). How can I write a query that will return a row if all the product id's exist and no row if one or more product id's does not exist? (Maybe something involving "IN" like: SELECT * FROM Products WHERE ProductID IN (1, 10, 100))

  • MySQL Join a Table if Exists Question

    - by swhitlow
    I have a DB which has a table called "config". This table could possibly have a "config_cstm" table that is related by the id to the config table. I was wondering - is there a way to dynamically check for the existence of this table in one simple select statement? In other words, something like: "select * from config (IF EXISTS config_cstm THEN LEFT OUTER JOIN config_cstm ON config.id = config_cstm.id_c" I know how I would go about checking for the existence of an existing table in PHP. I was wanting to do this all in one MySQL statement though. Any suggestions? Thanks!

  • PHP File Exists Always False

    - by Joe
    I have a case where file_exists() is always returning false. My latest attempt was to just test to see if it would return true for $_SERVER["SCRIPT_FILENAME"] and then return the value of the path if it couldn't find the file which it does. The path while not necessarily relevant to solving the problem is: /Users/joe/Workspace/720/app/webroot/index.php I have obviously verified that the file is there, and am not even sure how it couldn't be there since php is serving it up. I should mention this is on an install of OS X Snow Leopard running PHP 5.3.0. Any ideas would be fantastic. CODE SAMPLE: if (!file_exists($_SERVER["SCRIPT_FILENAME"])) $errors[] = 'Cant find:'. $_SERVER["SCRIPT_FILENAME"];

  • CodedUI null reference exception even when object exists

    - by Roee
    Hi, I have created a coded ui test that checks something in my software. It worked fine, but now I keep getting null reference exception when I try to interact with the UITestControl. The starnge thing is, that the UITestControl's 'Exist' property returns true, which means that the control had been found. I've searched and found this topic: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/vsautotest/thread/c2e6e5c3-2503-4506-9963-733fd84fbd25, But I have checked in my project, and the 'Copy Local' propert of these assemblies is set to false. I think that this execption first occurred after I have added an app.config file to my project. Maybe this might be the problem? If so, how can I fix this without deleting my app.config file? Thanks!

  • MySql - only update some rows if the table exists - do not want an error thrown

    - by Pete Oakey
    I want to run an update query. The query will be run against multiple databases - not every database will have the table. I don't want the update to be attempted if the table does not exist. I don't want any error to be thrown - I just want the update to be ignored. Any ideas? EDIT: just to be clear - the query is executed in an automated deployment - no human interaction possible. EDIT2: the logic to say whether the update should run or not will need to be in the MySql query itself. This is not being run through a command prompt or batch or managed code.

  • SQL SERVER – Convert IN to EXISTS – Performance Talk

    - by pinaldave
    In recent training one of the attendee asked if I can show simple method to convert IN clause to EXISTS clause. Here is the simple example. USE AdventureWorks GO -- use of = SELECT * FROM HumanResources.Employee E WHERE E.EmployeeID = ( SELECT EA.EmployeeID FROM HumanResources.EmployeeAddress EA WHERE EA.EmployeeID = E.EmployeeID) GO -- use of exists SELECT * FROM HumanResources.Employee E WHERE EXISTS ( SELECT EA.EmployeeID FROM HumanResources.EmployeeAddress EA WHERE EA.EmployeeID = E.EmployeeID) GO It is NOT necessary that every time when IN is replaced by EXISTS it gives better performance. However, in our case listed above it does for sure give better performance. Click on below image to see the execution plan. • Check if Database Exists

    - by Derek Dieter
    In creating a database you also need to check whether or not the database already exists. In order to do so, simply use the ‘if exists’ method and select the name of the database from sysdatabases.IF NOT EXISTS (SELECT name FROM master.dbo.sysdatabases WHERE name = N'SQLServerPlanet') CREATE DATABASE [SQLServerPlanet]The code below will drop an [...]

  • How do I correctly use two Not Exists statements in a where clause using Access SQL VBA?

    - by Bryan
    I have 3 Tables: NotHeard,analyzed,analyzed2. In each of these tables I have two columns named UnitID and Address. What I'm trying to do right now is to select all of the records for the columns UnitID and Address from NotHeard that don't appear in either analyzed or analyzed2. The SQL statement I created was as follows: SELECT UnitID, Address INTO [NotHeardByEither] FROM [NotHeard] Where NOT EXISTS( Select analyzed.UnitID FROM analyzed WHERE [NotHeard].UnitID = analyzed.UnitID) or NOT EXISTS( Select analyzed2.UnitID FROM analyzed2 WHERE [NotHeard].UnitID = analyzed2.UnitID) Group BY UnitID, Address I thought this would work since I've used the single NOT EXISTS subquery line and it has worked just fine for me in the past. The above query however returns the same data that is in the NotHeard table whereas if I take out the or NOT EXISTS part it works correctly. Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong or how to do what I'm wanting to do?
