  • How do I create substrings from an array using PHP?

    - by mike
I have an array of data that looks like this: 2008, Honda, Accord, Used, Car And I'm trying to figure a way to make a number of sub strings from each item in the array. For example, I would like to loop each item and create the following substrings: 2008 2008 Honda 2008 Accord 2008 Used 2008 Car 2008 Honda Accord 2008 Honda Used 2008 Honda Car 2008 Accord Honda 2008 Accord Used 2008 Accord Car 2008 Used Honda 2008 Used Accord 2008 Used Car 2008 Car Honda 2008 Car Accord 2008 Car Used Honda Honda 2008 Honda Accord Honda Used Honda Car Honda 2008 Accord Honda 2008 Used etc ... I need to make sure that there are no duplicates created and I need to prevent it from adding the same word twice (ex: Honda Honda OR 2008 Honda 2008 - i dont want that). Has anyone wrote anything like this or know where I can find a script that works the same way?

  • Inserting Records in Ascending Order function- C homework assignment

    - by Aaron McRuer
Good day, Stack Overflow. I have a homework assignment that I'm working on this weekend that I'm having a bit of a problem with. We have a struct "Record" (which contains information about cars for a dealership) that gets placed in a particular spot in a linked list according to 1) its make and 2) according to its model year. This is done when initially building the list, when a "int insertRecordInAscendingOrder" function is called in Main. In "insertRecordInAscendingOrder", a third function, "createRecord" is called, where the linked list is created. The function then goes to the function "compareCars" to determine what elements get put where. Depending on the value returned by this function, insertRecordInAscendingOrder then places the record where it belongs. The list is then printed out. There's more to the assignment, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. Ideally, and for the assignment to be considered correct, the linked list must be ordered as: Chevrolet 2012 25 Chevrolet 2013 10 Ford 2010 5 Ford 2011 3 Ford 2012 15 Honda 2011 9 Honda 2012 3 Honda 2013 12 Toyota 2009 2 Toyota 2011 7 Toyota 2013 20 from the a text file that has the data ordered the following way: Ford 2012 15 Ford 2011 3 Ford 2010 5 Toyota 2011 7 Toyota 2012 20 Toyota 2009 2 Honda 2011 9 Honda 2012 3 Honda 2013 12 Chevrolet 2013 10 Chevrolet 2012 25 Notice that the alphabetical order of the "make" field takes precedence, then, the model year is arranged from oldest to newest. However, the program produces this as the final list: Chevrolet 2012 25 Chevrolet 2013 10 Honda 2011 9 Honda 2012 3 Honda 2013 12 Toyota 2009 2 Toyota 2011 7 Toyota 2012 20 Ford 2010 5 Ford 2011 3 Ford 2012 15 I sat down with a grad student and tried to work out all of this yesterday, but we just couldn't figure out why it was kicking the Ford nodes down to the end of the list. Here's the code. As you'll notice, I included a printList call at each instance of the insertion of a node. This way, you can see just what is happening when the nodes are being put in "order". It is in ANSI C99. All function calls must be made as they are specified, so unfortunately, there's no real way of getting around this problem by creating a more efficient algorithm. #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include <string.h> #define MAX_LINE 50 #define MAX_MAKE 20 typedef struct record { char *make; int year; int stock; struct record *next; } Record; int compareCars(Record *car1, Record *car2); void printList(Record *head); Record* createRecord(char *make, int year, int stock); int insertRecordInAscendingOrder(Record **head, char *make, int year, int stock); int main(int argc, char **argv) { FILE *inFile = NULL; char line[MAX_LINE + 1]; char *make, *yearStr, *stockStr; int year, stock, len; Record* headRecord = NULL; /*Input and file diagnostics*/ if (argc!=2) { printf ("Filename not provided.\n"); return 1; } if((inFile=fopen(argv[1], "r"))==NULL) { printf("Can't open the file\n"); return 2; } /*obtain values for linked list*/ while (fgets(line, MAX_LINE, inFile)) { make = strtok(line, " "); yearStr = strtok(NULL, " "); stockStr = strtok(NULL, " "); year = atoi(yearStr); stock = atoi(stockStr); insertRecordInAscendingOrder(&headRecord, make, year, stock); } printf("The original list in ascending order: \n"); printList(headRecord); } /*use strcmp to compare two makes*/ int compareCars(Record *car1, Record *car2) { int compStrResult; compStrResult = strcmp(car1->make, car2->make); int compYearResult = 0; if(car1->year > car2->year) { compYearResult = 1; } else if(car1->year == car2->year) { compYearResult = 0; } else { compYearResult = -1; } if(compStrResult == 0 ) { if(compYearResult == 1) { return 1; } else if(compYearResult == -1) { return -1; } else { return compStrResult; } } else if(compStrResult == 1) { return 1; } else { return -1; } } int insertRecordInAscendingOrder(Record **head, char *make, int year, int stock) { Record *previous = *head; Record *newRecord = createRecord(make, year, stock); Record *current = *head; int compResult; if(*head == NULL) { *head = newRecord; printf("Head is null, list was empty\n"); printList(*head); return 1; } else if ( compareCars(newRecord, *head)==-1) { *head = newRecord; (*head)->next = current; printf("New record was less than the head, replacing\n"); printList(*head); return 1; } else { printf("standard case, searching and inserting\n"); previous = *head; while ( current != NULL &&(compareCars(newRecord, current)==1)) { printList(*head); previous = current; current = current->next; } printList(*head); previous->next = newRecord; previous->next->next = current; } return 1; } /*creates records from info passed in from main via insertRecordInAscendingOrder.*/ Record* createRecord(char *make, int year, int stock) { printf("CreateRecord\n"); Record *theRecord; int len; if(!make) { return NULL; } theRecord = malloc(sizeof(Record)); if(!theRecord) { printf("Unable to allocate memory for the structure.\n"); return NULL; } theRecord->year = year; theRecord->stock = stock; len = strlen(make); theRecord->make = malloc(len + 1); strncpy(theRecord->make, make, len); theRecord->make[len] = '\0'; theRecord->next=NULL; return theRecord; } /*prints list. lists print.*/ void printList(Record *head) { int i; int j = 50; Record *aRecord; aRecord = head; for(i = 0; i < j; i++) { printf("-"); } printf("\n"); printf("%20s%20s%10s\n", "Make", "Year", "Stock"); for(i = 0; i < j; i++) { printf("-"); } printf("\n"); while(aRecord != NULL) { printf("%20s%20d%10d\n", aRecord->make, aRecord->year, aRecord->stock); aRecord = aRecord->next; } printf("\n"); } The text file you'll need for a command line argument can be saved under any name you like; here are the contents you'll need: Ford 2012 15 Ford 2011 3 Ford 2010 5 Toyota 2011 7 Toyota 2012 20 Toyota 2009 2 Honda 2011 9 Honda 2012 3 Honda 2013 12 Chevrolet 2013 10 Chevrolet 2012 25 Thanks in advance for your help. • Custom app.config section with a simple list of "add" elements

    - by Joe
How do I create a custom app.config section that is just a simple list of add elements? I have found a few examples (e.g. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1316058) for custom sections that look like this: <RegisterCompanies> <Companies> <Company name="Tata Motors" code="Tata"/> <Company name="Honda Motors" code="Honda"/> </Companies> </RegisterCompanies> But how do I avoid the extra collection element ("Companies") so that it looks the same as the appSettings and connectionStrings sections? In other words, I'd like: <registerCompanies> <add name="Tata Motors" code="Tata"/> <add name="Honda Motors" code="Honda"/> </registerCompanies>

  • .htaccess - RewriteRules working, but browser address bar displaying full (unfriendly) URL

    - by axol
Hey there, Haven't been able to find a solution to this around the net or these forums - apologise if I've missed something! My .htaccess RewriteRules are working well - have search-engine and user -friendly links in my web pages, and unfriendly database URLs running hidden in the background. Except when I added a RewriteRule to add "www." to the front of URLs if the user didn't enter it - to ensure only one appears in search engines. Here's what now happening, and I can't figure out why! My friendly URL structure for content is like this, and the database query string uses the first "importantword": www.example.com/importantword-nonimportantword/ .htaccess snippet: Options +FollowSymLinks Options -Indexes RewriteEngine on RewriteOptions MaxRedirects=10 RewriteBase / RewriteRule ^/$ index.php [L] RewriteRule ^(.*)-(.*)/overview/$ detail.php?categoryID=$1 [L] RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www.example.com$ RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.example.com/$1 [L] What's happening since I added the last 2 lines: CASE 1: user types (or clicks) www.example.com/honda-vehicle/overview/ - Works correctly - They are taken to the correct page and the browser URL bar says: www.example.com/honda-vehicles/overview/ CASE 2: user types example.com - Works correctly - They are taken to www.example.com and the browser URL bar says: www.example.com CASE 3: user types (or clicks) example.com/honda-vehicles/overview/ i.e. without the prefix "www" - Does NOT work correctly - They are taken to the right page, but the browser URL bar displays the unfriendly URL: www.example.com/detail.php?categoryID=honda I figure there's some issue with the order of the RewriteRules, but it's doing my head in trying to logically step through it and figure it out! Any assistance at all or pointers would be most appreciated!

  • UITableView not showing background image.

    - by K.Honda
I have a uitableview with 2 cells (custom tableviewcells) and a button for login. I made them programmatically. Now I want to put a background image behind the 2 custom cells and the button. I went into IB and put the image view on top of the tableview and then put a picture on it which I want as the background. Then I went into viewDidLoad and put this bit of code tblSimpleTable.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; to clear the tableviews background colour. It now looks like this: But the background does not appear. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks.

  • How can i filter a list of objects using lamda expression?

    - by Colour Blend
I know i shouldn't have id's with the same value. This is just fictitious, so overlook that. I have: List<Car> carList = new List<Car>(); carList.Add(new Car() { id = 1, name = "Honda" }); carList.Add(new Car() { id = 2, name = "Toyota" }); carList.Add(new Car() { id = 1, name = "Nissan" }); I want to use Lamda Expression to retreive all cars that have an id of 1. Anticipated Result: -- Id: 1, Name: Honda -- Id: 1, Name: Nissan The problem is more filtering an object list based on a foriegn key. Please help me.

  • PHP search multidimensional array for value, then place that element at start of array

    - by BobFlemming
I need to search this array: cars - [0] -make : Ford -model: Escort -year: 1991 [1] -make: Honda -model: Civic -year: 1996 [2] -make: Vauxhall -model: Astra -year: 1972 And if (for example) the model is "Civic" , place that 'car' at position 0. So the end array would be like: cars - [0] -make: Honda -model: Civic -year: 1996 [1] -make : Ford -model: Escort -year: 1991 [2] -make: Vauxhall -model: Astra -year: 1972 I've tried some usort variations: function typeSort($a, $b) { if ($a['model'] == 'Civic' ) { return 0; } return ($a['model'] < $b['model']) ? -1 : 1; } but this is just returning 1

  • Product Search SEO

    - by dana
I am a wondering if there is a recommended "best practice" for a product search SEO. I know to create a dynamic sitemap file that lists links to all products in the site. However, I want to implement a a bookmark-able "advanced search". Should I let search engines index any of the results? Take the following parameters for a search on a make believe used car website: minprice (minimum price in dollars) maxprice (maximum price in dollars) make (honda, audi, volvo) model (accord, A4, S40) minyear (minimum model year) maxyear (maximum model year) minmileage (minimum mileage) maxmileage (maximum mileage) Given these parameters, there could be an infinite number of search combinations: Price Between $10,000 and $20,000 /search?minprice=10000&maxprice&20000 Audis with less than 50k miles /search?model=audi&maxmileage=50000 More than 100,000 miles and less than $5,000 /search?minmileage=100000&maxprice=5000 etc. Over time, there may be inbound links to a variety of these types of searches, yet they are all slices of the same data. Should I allow for all of these searches to be indexed?

  • How can a new programmer impress the software engineer (boss)? [closed]

    - by Pablo
Note 1/8/2011: As of this Monday, I'm the new software engineer. Turns out I did not impress the S.E., but ended impressing the CEO. See Joel, not everyone has to leave their Honda idling in front of the airport. =) Ashton, this one is for you buddy. Hi, I'm working at my first programming job. My boss is a very smart software engineer, and I feel like I have very little to offer compared to him. Problem is, he is always busy, and needs someone to help him out. I feel like I'm not good enough, but I still want to succeed. I want to be a great programmer. What can I do to impress him? Thank you.

  • Populating a UL with Jquery

    - by RachelGatlin
Hi Guys, I'm a little bit stumped with this UL I'm building. I've been able to populate the list no problem but it's all messed up when it comes to formatting. Here's my script: $.ajax({ type: "GET", url: "/shop/assets/xml/tonneau_makes.xml", dataType: "xml", success: function(xml) { var selectInfo = $("li.selectMake"); $(xml).find('option').each(function(){ var make = $(this).attr('make'); $("li.selectMake").before("<li>"+make+"</li>"); }); } }); It's working beautifully. however when I go to look at it on my page and view the selection source it looks like this: <ul id="MakeList"> <li>CHEVROLET</li> <li>VINTAGE CHEVY</li> <li>DODGE</li> <li>VINTAGE FORD</li> <li>FORD</li> <li>HONDA</li> <li>HUMMER</li> <li>ISUZU</li> <li>LINCOLN</li> <li>MAZDA</li> <li>MITSUBISHI</li> <li>NISSAN</li> <li>SUZUKI</li> <li>TOYOTA</li> <li class="selectMake"></li> So I guess it is working, but it's not formatting the way I want it to. I want it to stop at Honda and form a new list. Right now it's extending beyond my div. My html is set up like this: <ul id="MakeList"> <li class="selectMake"></li> </ul> It's just an empty ul and li (note, all li's are supposed to have that class) So not only do I need to figure out what I'm doing wrong, but I'm not sure how to get it to do what I want. I hope that all made sense! Thanks everybody!

  • Spring.Net Message Selectors with compound statements don't seem to be working

    - by Jonathan Beerhalter
I'm using Spring.NET to connect to ActiveMQ and do some fairly simple pub sub routing. Everything works fine when my selector is a simple expression like Car='Honda' but if I try a compound expression like Car='Honda' AND Make='Pilot' I never get any matches on my subscription. Here's the code to generate the subscription, does anyone see where I might be doing something wrong? public bool AddSubscription(string topicName, Dictionary<string, string> selectorList, GDException exp) { try { ActiveMQTopic topic = new ActiveMQTopic(topicName); string selectorString = ""; if (selectorList.Keys.Count == 0) { // Select all items for this topic selectorString = "2>1"; } else { foreach (string key in selectorList.Keys) { selectorString += key + " = '" + selectorList[key] + "'" + " AND "; } selectorString = selectorString.Remove(selectorString.Length - 5, 5); } IMessageConsumer consumer = this._subSession.CreateConsumer(topic, selectorString, false); if (consumer != null) { _consumers.Add(consumer); consumer.Listener += new MessageListener(HandleRecieveMessage); return true; } else { exp.SetValues("Error adding subscription, null consumer returned"); return false; } } catch (Exception ex) { exp.SetValues(ex); return false; } } And then the code to send the message, which seems simple enough to me public void SendMessage(GDPubSubMessage messageToSend) { if (!this.isDisposed) { if (_producers.ContainsKey(messageToSend.Topic)) { IBytesMessage bytesMessage = this._pubSession.CreateBytesMessage(messageToSend.Payload); foreach (string key in messageToSend.MessageProperties.Keys) { bytesMessage.Properties.SetString(key, messageToSend.MessageProperties[key]); } _producers[messageToSend.Topic].Send(bytesMessage, false, (byte)255, TimeSpan.FromSeconds(1)); } else { ActiveMQTopic topic = new ActiveMQTopic(messageToSend.Topic); _producers.Add(messageToSend.Topic, this._pubSession.CreateProducer(topic)); IBytesMessage bytesMessage = this._pubSession.CreateBytesMessage(messageToSend.Payload); foreach (string key in messageToSend.MessageProperties.Keys) { bytesMessage.Properties.SetString(key, messageToSend.MessageProperties[key]); } _producers[messageToSend.Topic].Send(bytesMessage); } } else { throw new ObjectDisposedException(this.GetType().FullName); } } 07/102009: Update Ok, found the problem bytesMessage.Properties.SetString(key, messageToSend.MessageProperties[key]); This justs sets a single property, so my messages are only being tagged with a single property, hence the combo subscription never gets hit. Anyone know how to add more properties? You'd think bytesMessage.Properties would have a Add method, but it doesn't.

  • Not sure I am using inheritance/polymorphism issue?

    - by planker1010
    So for this assignment I have to create a car class(parent) and a certifiedpreowned (child) and I need to have the parent class have a method to check if it is still under warranty. *checkWarrantyStatus(). that method calls the boolean isCoveredUnderWarranty() to veryify if the car still has warranty. My issue is in the certifiedpreowned class I have to call the isCoveredUnderWarranty() as well to see if it is covered under the extended warranty and then have it be called via the checkWarrantyStatus() in the car method. I hope this makes sense. So to sum it up I need to in the child class have it check the isCoveredUnderWarranty with extended warranty info. Then it has to move to the parent class so it can be called via checkWarrantyStatus. Here is my code, I have 1 error. public class Car { public int year; public String make; public String model; public int currentMiles; public int warrantyMiles; public int warrantyYears; int currentYear =java.util.Calendar.getInstance().get(java.util.Calendar.YEAR); /** construct car object with specific parameters*/ public Car (int y, String m, String mod, int mi){ this.year = y; this.make = m; this.model = mod; this.currentMiles = mi; } public int getWarrantyMiles() { return warrantyMiles; } public void setWarrantyMiles(int warrantyMiles) { this.warrantyMiles = warrantyMiles; } public int getWarrantyYears() { return warrantyYears; } public void setWarrantyYears(int warrantyYears) { this.warrantyYears = warrantyYears; } public boolean isCoveredUnderWarranty(){ if (currentMiles < warrantyMiles){ if (currentYear < (year+ warrantyYears)) return true; } return false; } public void checkWarrantyStatus(){ if (isCoveredUnderWarranty()){ System.out.println("Your car " + year+ " " + make+ " "+ model+ " With "+ currentMiles +" is still covered under warranty"); } else System.out.println("Your car " + year+ " " + make+ " "+ model+ " With "+ currentMiles +" is out of warranty"); } } public class CertifiedPreOwnCar extends Car{ public CertifiedPreOwnCar(int y, String m, String mod, int mi) { super(mi, m, mod, y); } public int extendedWarrantyYears; public int extendedWarrantyMiles; public int getExtendedWarrantyYears() { return extendedWarrantyYears; } public void setExtendedWarrantyYears(int extendedWarrantyYears) { this.extendedWarrantyYears = extendedWarrantyYears; } public int getExtendedWarrantyMiles() { return extendedWarrantyMiles; } public void setExtendedWarrantyMiles(int extendedWarrantyMiles) { this.extendedWarrantyMiles = extendedWarrantyMiles; } public boolean isCoveredUnderWarranty() { if (currentMiles < extendedWarrantyMiles){ if (currentYear < (year+ extendedWarrantyYears)) return true; } return false; } } public class TestCar { public static void main(String[] args) { Car car1 = new Car(2014, "Honda", "Civic", 255); car1.setWarrantyMiles(60000); car1.setWarrantyYears(5); car1.checkWarrantyStatus(); Car car2 = new Car(2000, "Ferrari", "F355", 8500); car2.setWarrantyMiles(20000); car2.setWarrantyYears(7); car2.checkWarrantyStatus(); CertifiedPreOwnCar car3 = new CertifiedPreOwnCar(2000, "Honda", "Accord", 65000); car3.setWarrantyYears(3); car3.setWarrantyMiles(30000); car3.setExtendedWarrantyMiles(100000); car3.setExtendedWarrantyYears(7); car3.checkWarrantyStatus(); } }
