• [LINQ]InsertOnSubmit NullReferenceException

  Hello, I have a rather annoying issue with LinqToSql. I have created a class that is derived from the class in the DataContext. The problem is that as soon as I use "InsertOnSubmit(this);" on this derived class I get a NullReferenceException. I've seen some people with the same issue. However they've used a custom constructor and solved the issue by calling ": this()" like this thread http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/linqprojectgeneral/thread/0cf1fccb-6398-4f16-920b-adef9dc4ac9f The difference is that I use a default constructor which causes the base constructor to be called so there should not be any problem! Could someone please help me with this, starts to get annoying! Thanks :)

• Microsoft Expression Web 3 clipboard bug

  There seems to be a rather annoying bug in MS Expression Web 3 (or perhaps an incompatibility with something else I have installed). Quite often HTML code editor would refuse to copy things into clipboard. You select some text, press Ctrl-C, Ctrl-Insert or use context menu and nothing happens. Then in 10..15 seconds it would start working again... Then again it would not work. It's rather annoying. Does anyone else have such a problem or knows how to fix it? I'm running Microsoft Expression Web 3 Service Pack 1 Version 3.0.3813.0 on Windows 7 Ultimate x64 with all latest updates and patches. I have Russian keyboard layout installed. Other than that my system is pretty much plain vanilla.

• PHP4 No Error When Missing Method is Called

  I have come across an annoying problem while writing some PHP4 code. I renamed the method of a class but I forgot to rename it where it was being called from. The annoying part is it was hard to track down where the problem was because no error was triggered. The script simply aborted leaving the web page partially rendered. Is it normal for this not to trigger an error or is there something wacky going on here? If this is normal is there a way to force this kind of thing to cause an error?

• SOS: AudioFormat when writing to file in FreeTTS

  Very annoying problem. I have developed a freeTTS application of the freetts class that write captured audio to file however I am having some very annoying problems. When setting the audio player to singlefileaudio player I try to also set the audioformat with my own default values for sampleRate, sampleSizeInBits, channels, signed and bigEndian. Now I access AudioPlayer.get methods to show these values in runtime just to ensure they are set to what I set them and they match those values. However when file writing completes and I check the properties of the resulting wave file, they are set to the audioPlayer default settings. Normally this will be fine except I have to read the files into another application which has fixed audio property settings so I always get a resulting output that sounds like am fast forwarding the sound and listening to it at the same time. Obviously because of the different sampling rates. I need help please. Thanx, Henry

• How do I enable automatic reloading of view files in development mode in JRuby on Rails?

  I am developing an app in JRuby on Rails. For some reason, when I edit the view files, the development JRuby Mongrel server doesn't reload them. The perplexing thing is that after editing the controller files, the server reloads them just fine on the next request. This would be annoying even when using MRI Ruby, however starting up JRuby Mongrel after every view edit is much slower, and much more annoying. (Note that once it starts up it's quite fast, the only issue is startup--the JVM has to load up every time I start JRuby Mongrel.) I'm running JRuby 1.5.0, Rails 2.3.5, and Java 6.

• Ubuntu black screen and icons messed up 12.04

  I had a successful install when i updated from 11.10 but when i actually went to start it it hanged and the purple screen for a few seconds then flickered my boot screen then showed the desktop i cant interact its black i can see the icons marked out but no images they are just gray wireless doesnt connect it seems that it messed up all the drivers. i tried to stat the old version i had its the same exept i can interact most window close buttons are missing and most of the time it doesnt know what screen im on. any ideas on what i can do? oh and recovery mode shows alot of errors and doesnt do much i ran it for the old version and it just goes through failing and gives an error beep. Thanks in advance any advice is appreciated (note windows still works fine on this system... unfortunately ;D )

• lubuntu - Sound card detected but no sound

  I installed Lubuntu 12.10 on my old laptop (Sharp Mebius PC-MR80J), but sound does not work. Here are things I tried. aplay -l does not output anything. When I run alsamixer, I see only one bar that says "Beep". I installed pavucontrol, pulseaudio, pulseaudio-utils and libgtk-3-0 and checked output devices, but I only see "Dummy ouput" and there is no hardware output devices. cat /proc/asound/cards returns the following. 0 [Intel ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel HDA Intel at 0xfeb38000 irq 40 cat /proc/asound/devices outputs the following. 1: : sequencer 2: [ 0- 1]: hardware dependent 3: [ 0- 0]: hardware dependent 4: [ 0] : control 33: : timer The laptop was running Windows XP before and sound (both input and outpu) was working. What can I do now?

However, I reinstall systems a LOT for testing purposes and would like to set this setting in a shell script so it's off without having to fiddle with a GUI. But for the life of me I can't seem to find where this can be toggled via a command line tool. I've scanned through gconf-editor, pulseaudio's pacmd, grepped through /etc, even dug through the gnome-volume-control source code, but I am not seeing how this can be set. I gather that gnome-volume-control has changed since a few releases ago. Ideas?

• Blank Screen After Ubuntu 12 installation

  On my dell laptop, running with windows 7, I installed Ubuntu 12. I used it for sometime, then i re-started to switch to windows. First time it got boot up with windows but then it got hanged. I re-started again and then blank screen with blinking cursor came and beep sounds also started to came. I read in few forums and this seems like a common issue with Ubuntu. I tried using the bootable USB for both windows 7 and Ubuntu but none of these are even getting detected. Please let me know if any of know the work-around. • Headset undetected when plugged in

  I have recently installed Ubuntu 12.04 in my machine which was running windows 7. I have been trying to configure the audio to work exactly as it used to work in Windows but never been able to do so. I have followed this link exactly. I am still not getting the required configuration. aslamixer command shows me with 5 adjustable controls as shown below Master "adjustable" Speaker "adjustable" PCM "adjustable" Front "adjustable" AND Beep "adjustable" Mic Jack Mic In or Lin In S/PDIF OO "in a box" S/PDIF D OO "in a box" S/PDIF P DIGITAL or Analog M It does not detect the headset jack when plugged in. I here mean to say that the sound form the speakers does not go off when I plug in my headset jack. How can I make this working. Some other googling also did not help. I am on Hp Pavilion DV7 machine. The chip is IDT 92HD75B3X5 and the card is HDA ATI SB.

• Sound notification over SSH

  I just switched from the Konversation IRC client to the terminal based IRSSI. I'm starting IRSSI on a remote machine using GNU screen + SSH. I do not get any sound notification on new messages, which means that I've to check out IRSSI once in a while for new messages. That's not really productive, so I'm looking for an application / script that plays a sound (preferably /usr/share/sounds/KDE-Im-Irc-Event.ogg and not the annoying beep) on my machine if there is any activity. It would be great if I can disable the notification for certain channels. Or, if that's not possible, some sort of notification via libnotify, thus making it available to GNOME and KDE.

There are laggs at animations, and the laggs in games are extremely annoying. Problems occur only in Ubuntu 12.04, everything was good in 11.10. No Problems with YouTube videos, HD videos. Is there a solution? BBecause I have found nothing here in the Forum and on Google. Or is an update coming soonfor driver or whatever? (This Bug is already registered in Launchpad.) Thank you!

• No sound, even though devices appear OK

  I have a weird problem. Sound used to work until a couple of days ago, but now the builtin speakers in my ThinkPad W520 have stopped working. This happened after either: An update Using the headphone jack in my laptop dock (I had used the jack in the actual laptop before without issues) As I was saying, the speakers do not work at all. Sometimes I get a clicking sound from the laptop, which I assume is the system beep. This does not happen consistently. If I plug headphones in the laptop, I do get sound in them. I have tried playing with all the possible settings both in gnome and using alsamixer. Some screens: What could I try next?

  I create a ubuntu 10.10 bootable USB via the method that is described on the download page of ubuntu. I made that from windows and also from ubuntu 10.04 (I have dual boot). When I boot from the USB made, the menu shows and when I run it, it gives a beep and nothing else. It never boots. USB creation from both methods result the same. I downloaded ubuntu via the torrent provided from Ubuntu. Any help will be very appreciated. I want to make my USB just like a Live CD so that I can run it on some other computers also.

• No sound after clean install

  Did a clean install of Ubuntu 12.10 and everything working great except for the sound. Ubuntu doesn't even seem to be recognizing the fact my HP dv6000 has the capability of making sound! I have the dummy output problem, and when I try to open alsamixer using terminal I get the message that no such file or directory exists. I can't get it to recognize any soundcards or audio devices at all. I've been working on the problem for a couple days now and have even taken the laptop apart to ensure that all cables are properly attached... When I go into the PhoenixBIOS there are no sound options that I can find. The laptop does make a loud beep if I press buttons in the BIOS, but once it boots to the hard drive, the thing is mute. HELP!

• BIOS Always Freezes Instantly

  I'm not sure if this is necessarily a Ubuntu question, but I've only had the problem since I installed 12.10. When I turn my computer on, the BIOS screen comes up as usual and... nothing else. When I press any key, I hear a loud beep and there's no response. I've tried looking for similar problems, but in most cases people are at least able to interact with their BIOS even if their OS doesn't load. It seems as though it's just completely freezing as soon as I turn it on.

  I have tried a number of ways of playing a fixed frequency sound (e.g. 1000Hz) and nothing works. I have downloaded "beep" and that makes no noise. I tried interfacing to pyao, and that had no effect. I tried interfacing to audiere, and get a runtime error indicating the library could not be found, despite installing it from the software centre. Any guidance for installation of appropriate libraries and relevant code would be most appreciated. I cannot generate .mp3/ .wav files for this, but need to generate the tones at run time. • Mark Messages As Read in the Outlook 2010 Reading Pane

  Do you ever feel annoyed that Outlook 2010 doesn’t mark messages as Read as soon as you click and view them in the Reading Pane?  Here we show you how to make Outlook mark them as read as soon as they’re opened. Mark as Read By default, Outlook will not mark a message as read until you select another message.  This can be annoying, because if you read a message and immediately click Delete, it will show up as an unread message in our Deleted Items folder. Let’s change this to make Outlook mark messages as read as soon as we view them in the Reading Pane.  Open Outlook and click File to open Backstage View, and select Options. In Options select Mail on the left menu, and under Outlook panes click on the Reading Pane button. Check the box Mark items as read when viewed in the Reading Pane to make Outlook mark your messages as read when you view them in the Reading Pane.  By default, Outlook will only mark a message read after you’ve been reading it for 5 seconds, though you can change this.  We set it to 0 seconds so our messages would be marked as read as soon as we select them. Click OK in both dialogs, and now your messages will be marked as read as soon as you select them in the reading pane, or soon after, depending on your settings. Conclusion Outlook 2010 is a great email client, but like most programs it has its quirks.  This quick tip can help you get rid of one of Outlook’s annoying features, and make it work like you want it to.   The default balloon tooltip in Firefox does well at times but then there are instances when a person finds that more information would be much better. The Tooltip Plus extension for Firefox will give your browser that nice extra information boost. Before & After For our example we have placed the “before & after shots” together for better comparison. First off we started with the How-To Geek logo. Note: Does not display the original URL behind shortened URLs. Next we moved on to a permanently linked article title. The “Reviews Tab” in the How-To Geek website toolbar. The article tags listing just beneath the HTG website toolbar. And the link for subscribing to our RSS Feed. In each instance you could actually see the address behind the links. The Tooltip Plus extension will also help out with images in webpages (including “Alt Text” if present). Notice that the link for the image is now available for you to view. Options The options are extremely simple to work with. Decide if you want a document icon to display, the size of the icon, and if you would like “Alt Text” for images to be displayed or not. Conclusion The Tooltip Plus extension does one thing and does it very well…it gives you that extra bit of information when you need it.
