    In Outlook, I'm setting up a Gmail account and I'm not able to send mails because my ISP is blocking SMTP forward. Any ways to bypass this? EDIT I've tried different settings, followed Gmail support inscructions and still not working. telnet smtp.gmail.com 465 telnet smtp.gmail.com 587 telnet smtp.gmail.com 25 all of them reply: Connecting To smtp.gmail.com...Could not open connection to the host, on port xxx : Connect failed and I don't have an email acount from my ISP.

There are a number of ways to import your existing email and calendar entries into Google Apps Gmail (e.g. including the Google Apps Sync for Outlook tool), the Google Email Uploader, and copying messages using an IMAP client) so I'm covered on the import side. I'm trying to understand the use cases for the Google Apps Sync for Outlook tool http://mail.google.com/support/bin/topic.py?topic=23333 with respect to email and calendar entries. The description says it syncs your Outlook email and calendar items with Google Apps, but doesn't using Outlook as an IMAP client against Google Apps do the same?

    I like the system of multiple gmail labels but am concerned about space used. I think that TB stores a separate copy of the whole email in every folder corresponding to a gmail label [including a copy in the "allmail" folder along with a separate copy in the each of the other folders]. Can I arrange to store a single copy of the email in TB,[perhaps in the allmail folder] with a shortcut type pointer from the individual folders to that single copy.[i.e for every email with one gmail label [eg personal] there are already 2 copies in TB, one in the allmail folder and a second in the "personal" folder

  • Xmail shows error at Gmail

    Hello I am using Xmail server at IP 65.75.241.26 hosted at www.softmail.me using which I can send and receive email to/from all email service providers but unable to receive back from Gmail. This error lies only with Gmail. Experts says that Gmail requires proper working MX records where as for other emailing providers do not bother much. Is MX records the solution for my problem? Or is there any other issue? My mailserver outgoing at softmail.me:25 My mailserver incoming at softmail.me:110 Please help me how to get rid of this issue.

  • How can I use encryption with Gmail?

    I'm currently reading Cory Doctorow's novel Little Brother which includes a part about encrypted messaging, and even wrapping messages first in my private key and then your public key. I'd like to play around with that but from what I've googled so far it seems to be a rather convoluted process, requiring installing several program components, and creating an encrypted message requires doing some manual file manipulation. I'm surprised that I can't find something like a Firefox plugin that integrates encryption into Gmail. I've seen that there is a Thunderbird PGP plugin, but I don't use T-bird. I also saw a blog post that Google apparently toyed with PGP support in 2009, but nothing has appeared in the meantime. Question: To use encryption with Gmail, is there a simpler method than creating a file locally, then encrypting that file, and finally attaching it to a regular Gmail message?

    I recently downloaded Google Chrome with Ubuntu 9.04 and love it. Ironically one site I consistently have issues with is gmail. When I enter gmail I will click a link, say an email or the inbox link. After a very long wait (on the order of 30 seconds to a couple of minutes) my page will load with an error such as: Some Gmail features have failed to load due to an Internet connectivity problem. If this problem persists, try reloading the page, using the older version, or using basic HTML mode. Learn More. Googling the symptoms has not helped. Has anyone else had any similar issues? Has anything helped?

  • How to move mail among Google Apps for Domains users

    Considering moving the domain used by my extended family for email to Google Apps. One less server for me to manage, better spam filtering, etc. One thing that's been nice about running my own has been the way I manage my kids' incoming email - it comes to me first, and I drop good mail in a symlinked IMAP folder that we share. A little procmail is all it takes, and straight-through exceptions are easy to implement. (FYI, no I'm not advocating censorship, but manually filtering spam and viruses from my 8-year-old's inbox seems like the right thing to do. YMMV) Anyway. I'm wondering if there's an easy way to do something similar in Google Apps - setting up filters to auto-redirect to me looks easy enough (any gotchas there?), but moving things back is not obvious. Yes, I could access both accounts via IMAP and drag mails across, but does anyone have an easier way?

    This is my situation: I work as a consultant, and thus work out of multiple computers: my work-laptop a desktop at my primary client my desktop at home an android smartphone an android tablet Likewise, I have multiple accounts: A Microsoft Exchange (2010 AFAIK) account A Microsoft Exchange (2007 AFAIK) account A gmail account The most important thing I need is the ability to have events in one calendar affect the free / busy status of all other accounts (so that if I am busy on Monday 9am with an event from my employer's account, it will show that time as busy in my client's account, and in the gmail account. Second thing I need is a unified view of all of my accounts' info: Appointments, email, tasks, and contacts (in that order of importance). I've already tried outlook synchronization tools such as gSyncit, to sync both exchange accounts with gmail, but this creates a mess when updating appointments (deleted appointments sometimes return, timestamps revert). Is there perhaps some way to at least synchronize the free/busy state in a way that all of my calendar apps / accounts will look there to see if I can be invited? Just solving that would be well worth my while. Thanks, Assaf

    it happens quite often, that I click a link over a persons name, just to see that it launches the default mail client of my system. I thought it would be a normal link, but it was a "mailto:"-link. I would like Chrome to start gmail, not my default email client. For Firefox, I had only to paste this in the URL-Bar: javascript:window.navigator.registerProtocolHandler("mailto","https://mail.google.com/mail/?extsrc=mailto&url=%s","GMail") Unfortunately, it doesn't work in Chrome 9. I have found this tutorial for Ubuntu, but I would like a solution in Chome. If it is only in Chrome, I can sync the settings. Here my company blocks lots of IP's for reasons like entertainment, sports, music, messaging boards etc. General e-mail is also one of those topics and I can't enter gmail.com. The proxy sites are also blocked in the company and the one's I have found (by spending much afford) are not accepting cookies. Also I am not able to enter the gmail from Igoogle too, this is also blocked. How can I enter gmail ? Thanks.

    Trying to import 53,800+ individual files (messages) using Gmail's POP fetcher. Gmail understandably refuses, giving the error: "Too many messages to download. There are too many messages on the other server." Using the shell (tcsh, sh, etc. on FreeBSD), what one-line command can I type to split this directory full of files into separate folders so Gmail only sees 1000 messages at a time? Something with find or ls | xargs mv maybe. Whatever is fastest. The desired output directory would now look something like: /usr/home/customer/Maildir/cur/1203672790.V57I586f04M867101.mail.net:2,S /usr/home/customer/Maildir/cur/1203676329.V57I586f22M520117.mail.net:2,S ... /usr/home/customer/set1/ (contains messages 1-1000) /usr/home/customer/set2/ (contains messages 1001-2000) /usr/home/customer/set3/ (etc.) Ideally, cron could run another command to automatically reverse the process in 1000 message increments every hour. So Gmail only sees & downloads 1000 at a time.

  • How to make Thunderbird play nice with Google mail

    Thunderbird and gmail aren't exactly the best of friends. Gmail's tags mean that Thunderbird often downloads multiple copies of a single mail. Anything tagged in gmail will appear in a folder related to that tag, the "all mail" folder, and possibly the "inbox" and "sent mail" folders too. Thus a mail with multiple tags could potentially be stored more than four times in a local Thunderbird cache. This can make searching difficult, and is obviously wasteful of disk space. The best solution I have come up with is as follows. Operate a zero inbox policy (i.e. use the inbox for processing live mail only and archive everything else) which eliminates an extra copy in the inbox. Secondly, configure Thunderbird not to sync the "Sent Mail" folder - this is a bit of a pain, since I actually find it quite useful to be able to look through just the mails I've sent, but a search can duplicate this functionality. In this way, most of the duplicates are removed, and only mail with tags is stored locally more than once. Ideally, however, I'd only like one copy of each mail to be stored locally. I am surprised Thunderbird doesn't store mail by some sort of hashing algorithm to prevent precisely this problem - but it wouldn't be compatible with the way the folders are mirrored in a local directory structure, I suppose. Can anyone think of a better way to get Thunderbird to cache a Google mail account locally efficiently.

Does anyone know of a good component that can provide Pop, IMAP, or both support? I know that code project has implementations, but from my experience finding a "good" one is hard.

  • "SASL authentication failed" with mutt and Gmail, why?

    I am confused by this, I have installed a lot of new pkgs and followed some tutorials after googling but I keep getting this kind of SASL -err. I am not sure whether the mistake is in some Gmail settings or should I check some settings in Ubuntu?   • Auto-archive IMAP mail folders on OS X

    Hi, I am trying to achieve the following. Download all messages from mail server(and remove downloaded messages from server). Downloaded messages should be in a local mailbox preserving folder structure as was defined on server. The download process should be automatic and shouldn't create duplicates. I am on OSX and looking for solutions using Apple Mail or Thunderbird or similar. So far I have found POP is not the way to go (as it looses folder structure and potentially can cause duplicates). The solution described here seems very good but isn't yet available for thunderbird or apple mail. http://getsatisfaction.com/mozilla_messaging/topics/auto_archive_and_keep_folder_structure. The other alternative is outlook which has auto archive which is paid and I think exports to pst instead of the more common mbox format. Yet another alternative is http://www.pop4.org/ which adds support for folder management to POP. Which I don't think is going to become usable soon. Any other better solutions.? Thank you

But how can I insert some middle layer, to check emails messages for special words/etc., so something like spam assasin proxy, but custom product.
