• How can I delay one feed in wordpress but not the others?

    - by mattloak
Is there anyway to create a special feed in Wordpress that is on a delay that I can distribute to some of our content partners? I have found some tutorials on how to delay your feed (http://wpengineer.com/publish-the-feed-later/) but it uses the conditional statement is_feed and I don't want to apply this to all feeds, just one particular feed. Any advice?

  • Processing RSS/RDF via xml.dom.minidom

    - by Bill
I'm trying to process a delicious rss feed via python. Here's a sample: ...

WebList - The Place To Find The Best List On The Web

...

Thumboo! Free Website Thumbnails and PHP Script to Generate Web Screenshots

... The relevant code is: def getText(nodelist): rc = "" for node in nodelist: if node.nodeType == node.TEXT_NODE: rc = rc + node.data return rc dom = xml.dom.minidom.parse(file) items = dom.getElementsByTagName("item") for i in items: title = i.getElementsByTagName("title") print getText(title) I would think this would print out each title, but instead I get basically get blank output. I'm sure I'm doing something stupid wrong, but no idea what?

  • Pulling specific entries from RSS feed [PHP]

    - by n0s
So, I have an RSS feed with variations of each item. What I want to do is just get entries that contain a specific section of text. For example:

RADIO SHOW - CF64K - 05-20-10 + WRAPUP

RADIO SHOW - CF128K - 05-20-10 + WRAPUP

I only want to display the results that contain the string CF64K. While it's probably really simple regex, I can't seem to wrap my head around getting it right. I always get seem to only be able to display the string 'CF64K', and not the stuff that surrounds it. Thanks in advance.

  • Converting part of a multi-purpose XML file to RSS using XSL

    - by Nate McCloud
I have an XML file that I use for storing and displaying recipes that I collect, but that same XML file also has updates for the site at the top of it. How would I, say, use Recipes.xsl to transform Recipes.xml for display as an actual website, and use RecipesRSS.xsl to transform Recipes.xml into Recipes.rss? Currently, my XML file is formatted something like this: <book> <updates> <update when="2010-04-19"> <format> <update>Formatting updates here, if any. Otherwise, omit the Format section.</update> ... </format> <recipes> <update>Recipe updates here, if any. Otherwise, omit the Recipes section.</update> ... </recipes> </update> ... </updates> <recipe name="Recipe Name"> <from>Recipe source</from>
<ingredients> <ingredient>Recipe ingredient</ingredient> ... </ingredients> <instructions> <step>Recipe instructions go here.</step> ... </instructions> <notes> <note>Additional notes go here, if any. Otherwise, Notes section is omitted.</note> ... </notes> </recipe> ... </book> Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • How do I cache RSS feeds in order not to miss entries on client side?

    - by Wakusei
I'm using a client side RSS reader and turn on my PC at night. But some RSS feeds publish only a limited number of entries and old entries are removed from the feed. So sometimes I can miss entries. In order to avoid that, I want to cache feeds on some web service. Is there something like it? Although I know server side readers like Google Reader solve this problem, I still like client side readers.

  • How RSS Feeds Help in SEO Optimization

  • How do I estimate the number of RSS subscribers?

    - by Robert Kosara
I'm running a website, and would like to get a better idea how many subscribers I have. I can check the number of subscribers on Google Reader for my two feeds (RSS and Atom). I also have access to my server logs, so I sometimes collect all the IP addresses that access the feeds over a month or so and do a uniq. Is that an accurate way of doing this? Are there other feed aggregators that I need to take into account? Any pitfalls when just going by IP address? I've also thought about embedding an image in the feeds to get a better count. But do all feed readers load images automatically?

  • Create an RSS feed for any webpage, monitor changes and send results by email?

    - by David
Do you know a Windows 7 software (not an online service) than can create an RSS feed for any webpage ? Here is what I am looking for : I manually select what is a title, what is a link and if needed what is the content that I would like to keep (article content + their related images if they exist). The software create a RSS feed from that. Then it monitors the feed every x hours (or x days at a specified time). If updates are found then send the results to my email address. (It is a little like a combination of the Firefox addon: Autopager (WYSIWYG selection which use xpath) and WebSite-Watcher (RSS software monitoring).

  • Only error showing is null, rss feed reader not working

    - by Callum
I have been following a tutorial which is showing me how to create an rssfeed reader, I come to the end of the tutorial; and the feed is not displaying in the listView. So I am looking for errors in logCat, but the only one I can find is one just saying 'null', which is not helpful at all. Can anyone spot a potential problem with the code I have written? Thanks. • Does content always have to be in chronological order in an RSS feed?

    - by Chris Henry
I run a site where users can upload content that is displayed in a gallery where other users can sort and filter that content. While implementing RSS feeds, I was wondering how common it was for an RSS feed to display items in an order that's different from chronological. For example, displaying content by Most Views first. This could be useful for someone wanting to keep tabs on trending content. How do RSS readers handle this, since most RSS feeds are ordered chronologically?

  • RSS Feeds currently on Simple-Talk

    - by Andrew Clarke
There are a number of news-feeds for the Simple-Talk site, but for some reason they are well hidden. Whilst we set about reorganizing them, I thought it would be a good idea to list some of the more important ones. The most important one for almost all purposes is the Homepage RSS feed which represents the blogs and articles that are placed on the homepage. Main Site Feed representing the Homepage ..which is good for most purposes but won't always have all the blogs, or maybe it will occasionally miss an article. If you aren't interested in all the content, you can just use the RSS feeds that are more relevant to your interests. • Accessing an RSS feed in Flex, works when run from Flash Builder 4, but not when the project is onli

    - by ben
Hey guys, In my Flex 4 app, I access an RSS feed (I'm using http://news.ycombinator.com/rss as a dummy). It works okay when I run it from Flash Builder 4, but if I export the project and upload it, I get the following error when it tries to load the RSS feed: Error #2044: Unhandled securityError:. text=Error #2048: Security sandbox violation: my_website_url cannot load data from http://news.ycombinator.com/rss. What could be causing this error? Shouldn't RSS be able to be accessed from anywhere? Thanks for reading.

  • Changing the RSS and Dynamic Views layout when using Blogger as a Podcast index

    - by Stuart
I'm trying to set up a podcast service at present. This is just a 'spare time' task - so I wanted a quick, easy way to do it. To get this working: I've ripped (with owner permission) some YouTube content across to MP3 and hosted this content on Azure Blob Storage. I've posted blog posts - with linked mp3 content - inside a Blogger website. I've registered the RSS feed with iTunes This all seems to be working OK - http://dotnetmobilepodcast.blogspot.co.uk/ However, when it comes to a couple of final touches, then I'm hitting problems. RSS I would like to add iTunes metadata to the RSS feed. However, I can't find any way to do this inside the Blogger system. To workaround this I've tried using FeedBurner with its StreamCast plugin. However, the output from FeedBurner doesn't seem to be accepted by iTunes - e.g. http://feeds.feedburner.com/MobileAppCSharpPodcasts leads to this very unhelpful 11111 message: Is there any other way I can get this iTunes metadata content into the Blogger RSS feed - e.g. maybe an alternative service or a Yahoo! Pipe? Showing the MP3 files in the Blog I'm trying to work out how to automatically display the linked enclosures inside the blog posts - do the blogger Dynamic Views don't seem to have any way of doing this? I've found the HTML in those views very difficult to follow. If necessary I can workaround this using manual entries into each blog post... but I'd prefer to do this programatically if I can.

  • How to detect if a page is an RSS or ATOM feed

    - by Pepper
Hello, I'm currently building a new online Feed Reader in PHP. One of the features i'm working on is feed auto-discovery. If a user enters a website URL, the script will detect that its not a feed and look for the real feed URL by parsing the HTML for the proper tag. The problem is, the way im currently detecting if the URL is a feed or a website only works part of the time, and I know it can't be the best solution. Right now im taking the CURL response and running it through simplexml_load_string, if it can't parse it I treat it as a website. Here is the code. $xml = @simplexml_load_string( $site_found['content'] ); if( !$xml ) // this is a website, not a feed { // handle website } else { // parse feed } Obviously, this isn't ideal. Also, when it runs into an HTML website that it can parse, it thinks its a feed. Any suggestions on a good way of detecting the difference between a feed or non-feed in PHP? Thanks, Pepper http://feedingo.com

  • Add Flickr RSS feed to Page via SimplePie

    - by Bradley Bell
Hi all. I'm trying to add my recently uploaded flickr feed onto a site. I've followed tutorials with Simple Pie, but can't get what I desire. I need to be able dictate where each image will sit in multiple DIV's rather than just one repeated DIV. Here is a website which seems to do what I want.. wearecondiment.com It basically updates the Static URL inside each seperate DIV.. I cant find the PHP anywhere in there code. Here is the site I plan to add this feature to.. "http://www.openyourheart.org.uk" I'll make a new page and template of square DIVs where each photo will sit. The aim of it will basically be so that people can upload their own images to display in the campaign and automatically appear on the site. It would also be great if somehow the image could crop to the size of each square/rectangle. Any ideas? Cheers, Bradley

  • Hyphen encoding (minus) in Google Base RSS feed

    - by pmells
I am trying to create an automatic feed generation for data to be sent to Google Base using utf-8 encoding. However I am getting errors whenever hyphens are found telling me that there is an encoding error in the relevant attribute (title, description, product_type). I am currently using: − but I have also tried: − neither of which have worked. I am using the following declaration at the top of the document: Any help appreciated and let me know if I need to give more information!

  • Link to RSS/Atom feed, relative, doesn't work in Firefox

    - by Adrian Smith
I have a weird problem. I generate a HTML page, hosted let's say at http://www.x.com/stuff which contains

..
The result is: In IE7 all works well - you can click on the feed icon in the browser and the feed is displayed In Firefox, view source, click on the linked /stuff/feed and you see the source of the feed, so that works as expected In Firefox, view the page (not source), then click on the feed icon in the address bar, I get an error that it can't retrieve the URL feed://http//www.x.com/stuff/feed So the problem is, that it's appending feed:// to the front of the URL and then taking out the colon : after the http. I understand that feed: is HTTP anyway so perhaps the adding of that isn't a big problem. But anyway, the fact is, that URL Firefox generates out of my
tag doesn't work. I have considered making the URL absolute, but I haven't found any evidence that those URLs have to be absolute, nor can I understand why that would be the case. And for various reasons it would be inconvenient in my code to generate an absolute URL. I can do it if necessary but I would prefer to see proof (e.g. specification, or Mozilla bug report) that it's necessary before making my code messy What do you think? Does anyone know of any evidence that the URL should be absolute? Or am I doing something else wrong? It seems such a simple/obvious tag, where nothing could go wrong, but I can't get it to work.

  • Generate custom RSS/Atom feed with SyndicationFeedFormatter made from XML

    - by Sentax
I have followed this article and implemented my service and I can open the web browser and see the test data being published. I would like to create a custom formatted response, as for my needs this will not be published to the internet and it's an isolated feed that other devices on the local network could read to get the data I'm publishing. I'd like to create an XML document and publish it instead of using the SyndicationItem that is being used in the article to display title, author, description, etc. Would like to create something simple to be published: <MyData>

The Name
<Artist>The Artist</Artist> </MyData> I know how to create that in an XMLWriter, but how to publish in a SyndicationFeedFormatter that is the return type for the function in the article? I have seen the XmlSyndicationContent class but haven't seen any practical examples that would accomplish what I want to do.

  • Looking for a good C++ based RSS API

    - by Rhubarb
I tried http://code.google.com/p/feed-reader-lib but holy cow, talk about difficult to build. It has a nightmare of dependencies on Xerces and Xalan, both of which seem to be choking under the new VisualStudio 2010 C++ compiler. I've wasted hours trying to build this thing which is a shame. Does anyone have anything a little easier to hit the ground running with?

  • How to Customize Your How-To Geek RSS Feeds (We’re Changing Things)

    - by The Geek
If you’re an RSS subscriber, you’ll soon notice that we’re making a few changes. Why? It’s time to simplify our system, while providing you a little more control over which articles you want to see. The point, of course, is that people like different things, and that’s OK. What’s not so great is getting complaints—Linux users are always whining about Windows posts, and Windows users are whining when we write Linux posts. It’s also worth pointing out that if you aren’t interested in a post—you don’t have to click on it to read it. This is probably fairly obvious to reasonable people. The New Feeds Here’s the new set of feeds you can subscribe to. We’ll probably add more fine-grained feeds in the future, as we get some more things straightened out. Everything we publish (news, how-tos, features) Just the Feature Articles (the absolute best stuff) Just News (ETC) Posts Just Windows Articles Just Linux Articles Just Apple Articles Just Desktop Fun Articles You can obviously subscribe to one or many of them if you feel like it. The Once Daily Summary Feed! If you’d rather get all your How-To Geek in a single dose each day, you can subscribe to the summary feed, which is pretty much the same as our daily email newsletter. You can subscribe to this summary feed by clicking here. Note: we’re working on a lot of backend changes to hopefully make things a little better for you, the reader. One of the things we’ve consistently had feedback on is the comment system, which we’ll tackle a little later. Also, if you suddenly saw a barrage of posts earlier… oops! Our mistake.
