  I installed OCILIB on my CentOS 6.2 server some time ago, and now I want to install a newer version. The vendor requires an uninstall, but doesn't provide instructions. I'm guessing that's because it's trivial for people with a Linux background. http://orclib.sourceforge.net/doc/html/group_g_install.html If I installed this software using: step 1: # ./configure --with-oracle-headers-path=/usr/include/oracle/11.2/client64 --with-oracle-lib-path=/usr/lib/oracle/11.2/client64/lib step 2: # make step 3: # su root step 4: # make install step 5: # gcc -g -DOCI_IMPORT_LINKAGE -DOCI_CHARSET_ANSI -L/usr/lib/oracle/11.2/client64/lib -lclntsh -L/usr/local/lib -locilib conn.c -o conn How would I go about uninstalling this? I tried following this http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/delete-uninstall-software-linux-commands/ but nothing was found on my disk using rpm -qa *oci* or yum list *oci*. Maybe since it wasn't installed with yum or rpm then I shouldn't expect either of these to find it. Are there generic instructions for uninstalling software on Linux that I could use, or do the instructions really depend on the specific software? Any help much appreciated.

  I am using a SSD drive just as a main Operation system and software drive. I have a regular spinning disk for data files. I have read that files are not REALLY deleted from a SSD drive when you "delete" them. So here is my situation and hopefully I can get some good advice. Let's say I have Windows 7 Pro x64bit installed on my 80gb Intel SSD. I then have Adobe Photoshop CS4 installed along with 50 other programs installed onto this SSD. I then decide I am done with Adobe Phjotoshop CS4 and want to remove it. I then decide I want to install another version of Adobe Photoshop and a few other software titles. Would I just do the usual, add/remove software from the windows control panel. Or if the software being removed has an "Uninstall" program to run, then run it and uninstall the software? I realize that all this WILL remove the software from Windows 7 but I am wanting to know if there is additional steps that should be taken since it is a solid state drive (SSD)?

• Win7 Hangs During App Install/Upgrade/Uninstall

  I have a custom built PC that intermittently hangs when installing, uninstalling, or upgrading applications. Technical Specs ASUS P5E w/ WiFi Motherboard Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 Processor 4x 2GB G.Skill DDR2 800 SDRAM ASUS EAH2900XT / Radeon HD 2900XT 512MB Video Card Under normal operation the machine runs reliably, even under heavy load, such as video transcoding. The temperature never gets anywhere near where I would worry about it. However, the machine regularly hangs (complete lockup, no response to keyboard or mouse, no activity on-screen) when either installing a new application, uninstalling an existing application, or applying patches to existing applications or the OS. This is extremely frustrating as this machine is primarily used as a HTPC. Several apps are configured for automatic updates, and these updates sometimes cause the machine to lockup while we are watching content on the PC. In previously investigating this issue, I found one likely problem could be my Logitech Webcam. The Logitech software has a bug that leaves an entry in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\ Control\SessionManager\PendingFileRenameOperations Which references the Temp directory. My registry contained this error, so I uninstalled the webcam software and deleted this registry key value. Unfortunately, the machine will still intermittently hang. I've noticed that the hangs always happen when an install/upgrade/uninstall requires elevated privileges (presumably to modify the registry). I can typically get at least one install/upgrade/uninstall to complete after a reboot, but after that it is a game of russian roulette to see if the operation will succeed or hang the machine. The event log is not helpful, as log messages end at the time of the hang, with no record of a warning or error. My only recourse when the machine hangs in this way is to perform a hard reset/power cycle. Any tips on how to further debug this issue are greatly appreciated.

  I am trying to uninstall plesk from my VPS by running following command: yum remove sw-* psa-* plesk-* when i run this command i get following error: Running rpm_check_debug Running Transaction Test memory alloc (4 bytes) returned NULL. First time when i run above command, this mem alloc (4 bytes) was very big number like (67864987). then i googled it, got some clear/ulimit commands. executed them. rebooted my system. stopped all process and executed this command again. but still getting 4 byte issue. dont know how to get rid of it. I also tried ulimit after reboot but no success and Yes. Now what am i doing is that i get the uninstall string of the specific application from the registry and use System.Diagnostics.Process to run UninstallString. Dim proc As New Process() proc.StartInfo.FileName =UninstallString proc.Start() proc.WaitForExit() proc.Close() latter i found that it only work for straight file paths only, i mean with no command line argument like: C:\program files\someApp\uninstall.exe I make a list of list of all UninstallStrings of all application installed on my machine. i found few things like application installed using MSI, some were with rundll32 and few were with straight file path with some command argument like: My Silverlight SDK UninstallString, MSI Example MsiExec.exe /X{2012098D-EEE9-4769-8DD3-B038050854D4} My JetAudio UninstallString, RunDll32 Example RunDll32 C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\INSTAL~1\engine\6\INTEL3~1\Ctor.dll,LaunchSetup "C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information{91F34319-08DE-457A-99C0-0BCDFAC145B9}\Setup.exe" -l0x9 My Google Chrome UninstallString, straight file path with command argument example "C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome\Application\5.0.375.55\Installer\setup.exe" -uninstall The code i mentioned above does not work for these. i did some string parsing, separate two thing from UninstallString one is Filename and other is Arguments. like for MSI, filename is MSIEXEC.EXE and argument will be rest of the string, same for RunDLL32, same for straight file path with command argument. Now what am i facing is that, after every 2 or 3 days i come to know that this type of unistallstring is also not working. and why is that not working because it is a new type maybe abc C:\program files\someapp.exe -ddd so parse it too. is there any better way of doing that rather then parsing the string.

  Hi. I have a problem with uninstalling Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Extended Beta 2. I wanted to uninstall it but I cancelled the process. Then I was asked if there was a problem without uninstallation if I want to change to compatibility mode. I accidentally chose to change to compatibility mode. Since then, every time I try to uninstall it, I get an error that the installer cannot run in compatibility mode. How can I fix it? I look for installer file and it's not marked to run in compatibility mode. I cannot find the file that was marked to run in compatibility mode after answering mentioned question.   Alright, so I treated myself to a new computer for Christmas. Windows7 64-bit, yada yada yada. Uninstalled Norton Security using Windows7 uninstall program, installed Microsoft Security Essentials in it's place. From a cold boot, I still get the screen from Norton asking me if I wanna sign up for the free six months, which I don't. Guess Windows7 uninstall left behind some pieces. Anyone know how I can get rid of this Norton screen? EDIT: @ Revolter: Great. Used Norton Removal Tool Successfully. Now I get a different pop-up window ALWAYS reminding me if I want to activate Norton Online Backup. What does one have to do to FINALLY get rid of these people?

• Unable to remove broken Exchange 2003 installation (SBS 2003)

  We have a non-functional Exchange 2003 installation on our SBS 2003 server that I am trying to uninstall. So far we have never used, and will never use, Exchange on this server- all we need is to remove it from the system (as it is installed on a partition which we want to merge with the main data partition to increase network storage capacity). Attempting to remove it using Add/Remove Programs produces the following error: When doing a search in ADUC to see which users still have a mailbox associated with them, it seems to only be the domain administrator account: As the Exchange installation is broken, it is not possible to run either System Manager or Exchange 5.5 Administrator to make mailbox changes. How can I forcibly remove a mailbox (which does not need to be salvaged or backed up), to allow the uninstall of Exchange to proceed? Any ideas would be appreciated!

• Stuck with Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 errors

  A ways back I installed Microsoft Visual Studio beta 2. Today I installed Visual Studio 2010 from Dreamspark (the one with the activation key baked in). This resulted in an install with no place to put an activation key (I don't have one anyways), but I still get the following error when I try to start it: Your Microsoft Visual Studio evaluation period has expired. You will need to upgrade Microsoft Visual Studio to the latest release. This didn't go away with a complete uninstall and reinstall, and I have no idea how to fix it. A quick internet search reveals that this is the error message from Beta 2 after the date at which the RTM version went live. I have a feeling that the message is due to some hanging registry entries (I went through the manual uninstall instructions here). Does anyone know how to find and eliminate all vestiges of Beta 2 or something?

• Driverpack Solution makes a whole bunch of programs

  I am using Driver Pack solution 12.3 to update my drivers. I used it and installed 55 drivers. I noticed that there are now several dozen new entries in add/remove programs under the name Windows Driver Package - Intel hdc, Windows Driver Package - Intel System, and Windows Driver Package - Intel USB with the driverpack solution logo next to them. When I hit uninstall for any of these, it says all devices using this driver will be removed, and I am scared of uninstalling anything I do not know about. I have no system restore points before I updated my driver. Will these extra driver packages slow down my computer or take up extra disk space? Can I uninstall them safely? I am using Windows 8, so refreshing the computer is an option.

  A friend of mine is trying to install AutoCAD. In the install log it is written Install Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable (x86) Failed Installation aborted, Result=1603 I've found a site which (hopefully) explains how to solve this: here However, my friend has not been able to uninstall the redistributables. The error message says The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable I've already suggested running this but that didn't help much. Only some of the redistributables could be uninstalled. What can be done? Do you think running some other cleanup tool could work? Or will we have to uninstall manually (how exactly would we do that)?

• What's the difference between these Intel things?

  My head still spins with the various Intel "things" that may (or may not) need installing/configuring/yaddayadda'ing: Intel Rapid Storage Technology (is this driver? a software manager/package?), Intel Chipset (i.e., Intel INF Update Utility, Intel RST OROM, Intel RST driver, Intel Matrix Manager, etc. I think I have a basic understanding that the OROM is the low-level BIOS "driver", which communicates with the higher-level RST driver (in Windows). But what's the Chipset Installation software? What's the INF installation/update software? I'm confused as to what the other pieces are (or why there are so many to begin with). And as for a practical matter -- I'm wanting to upgrade my BIOS with a recent Intel OROM included, and then also update the Intel RST drivers in Windows -- BUT, as for the Windows side of things, I don't know what I should uninstall -- the Intel Chipset installer thing (through official uninstaller), Intel RST Manager, finding the individual Intel devices in Device Manager and right-clicking-uninstall/deleting, etc.

  Hello, I'm trying to install Java's JRE, however I'm running into problems. Recently the JRE was uninstalled on this computer, and when I try to reinstall I get this error 2753. I've looked online and the best page I've found to try and help is this one: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=182720 Which says to uninstall Java using Revo or Windows Cleanup. However nether program says I have Java installed. From what I've read this is a uninstall problem when Java is not really uninstalled. How do I make sure Java is completely uninstalled? Do you have any other suggestions for me to try?

  When I install my application, along with the binaries, a conf file is installed that the user can change as he needs (it's actually the user data file). I would like this file to not be overwritten or deleted when a repair, upgrade, modify happens and it should be deleted only when a real uninstall happens. In other words: this conf file is installed along with the binaries and should never be touched again (overwritten/deleted) until a real uninstall happens (not repairs, modifies, upgrades) in which case it should be deleted. So I was thinking of doing: <Component Id="aaa.cfg" Guid="GUID"> <File Id="aaa.cfg" Source="aaa.cfg" KeyPath="yes" /> </Component> But I don't know how could I condition the component so that: 1) the component to be removed only on a real uninstall - not upgrades, repairs, modifies? 2) the file should in no case be overwritten if already exists. • Stopping the service and the babysited application before uninstalling

  Hi all, I have a service MyService.exe that is babysitting my application MyApp.exe, meaning it starts the application when this one crashes or whatever. Basically when the service is stopped the application is stopped (by the service) and when the service is started the application is started by the service. In order to stop my service and by that my application when uninstalling I'm doing: <ServiceControl Id='MyServiceControl' Name='MyServiceForTest' Start='install' Stop='uninstall' Remove='uninstall'/> But when I want to uninstall everything I get the error message: "The setup must update files or services that cannot be updated while the system is running. If you choose to continue, a reboot will be required to complete the setup.". If I manually stop the service before running the uninstaller I don't get this msg as both my service and my application aren't then running anymore. In the log file I noticed that this happens in InstallValidate and I get this message b/c of MyApp.exe being running. I think what happens is: the uninstallers checks the running applications, it notices that the MyService.exe and MyApp.exe are both running, detects probably that the MyService.exe will be stopped by the uninstaller itself as instructed, but doesn't know about the MyApp.exe that this one will also be terminated once the service will be stopped so it will show the reboot-message. I can't just close MyApp.exe from uninstaller b/c the service will restart it again. How could I solve this problem so that the user won't need to reboot or to manually stop the service before doing an uninstall/upgrade? Also, I can't change MyService and MyApp code anymore so I will have to do this from the (un)installer only. TIA, Viv

This works fine for the installation procedure. Unfortunately, InnoSetup will not create such a log file when I uninstall the application. Is there a flag / possibility to force InnoSetup to also create an uninstall log file?

  Hello, Since when I installed Screwturn I used Web Plateform Installer, I though I'd need to go through Control Panel to uninstall it. But, I saw nothing in the Install/Uninstall section of the control. Rather, I found all the ScrewTurn resources inside the C:\inetpub folder. Clearing everything inside that folder would help get rid of SrewTurn as I didn't copy/paste it there but the WPI did it for me? No side effect to be feared? Thanks for helping

  While compiling some port, I realized that it depends on 1000+ of other ports and will install forever until I die or my disk is full (my hdd is really small). I interrupted make install clean. How do I uninstall and clean those dependencies which have already been built and installed? (there are at least 100+ of them) pkg_cutleaves wont work in this case, since the main port wasn't registered yet. Please help. FreeBSD 9.0-RELEASE amd64 EDIT: Another way to ask this question: How can I see all dependencies for a non-registered port, and all subdependencies for those dependencies, independent with previously installed ports or their [sub]dependencies?
