  • In a team practicing Domain Driven Design, should the whole team participate in Stakeholder meetings?

    In my experience, a Software Development Team that comprises: 1 Project Manager 1 Tech Lead 1 - 2 Senior Dev 2 - 3 Junior Dev (Fresh grad) Only the Tech Lead & PM (and/or Senor Dev/s) will participate in a meeting with Clients, Domain Experts, Client's technical resource. I can think of the ff potential pitfalls: Important info gets lost Human error (TL/PM might forgot to disseminate info due to pressure or plain human error) Non-verbal info (maybe a presentation using a diagram presented by Domain Expert) Maintaining Ubiquitous language is harder to build since not all team members get to hear the non-dev persons Potential of creative minds are not fully realized (Personally, I am more motivated to think/explore when I am involved with these important meetings) Advantages of this approach: Only one point of contact Less time spent on meetings? Honestly, I am biased & against this approach. I would like to hear your opinions. Is this how you do it in your team? Thanks in advance!

  • Which metric/list should be used to evaluate whole software development team?

    Title might be seem vague, so let me tell you a little bit history what i am trying to clarify question. I have been hired as a consultant for a corporate's small developement divison ( The company also owns a couple of software dev. companies) My ex manager runs a BI team, with reportes, analyts and developers. He asked me to evaluate overall design, software developement process and code quality . Here what i found, Lots of copy/paste code everywhere ( no reuse ) Even though they have everything TFS, VS Ultimate etc, No Build process , No Cruise Control.net / team city... No unit tests Web Pages with 3700 lines of code, Lots of huge functions ( which can be divided into smaller one's ) No naming convention both db and c# code No 3r party or open source project No IoC No Seperation Of Concerns No Code Quality Check ( NDepend or FxCope or nothing ) No Code Review No Communication within the team They claim they wrote an application framework ( 6 months 3 persons), but I would hardly call a framework ( of course no unit test, there are some but all commented out). Framework contains 14 projects but there are some projects with 1 file 20 lines of code . Honestly, what people are doing fixing bug all thr day( which will provide more bugs eventually), they are kind of isolated from community, some team members even dont know github or stackoverflow they probably went there with google but they dont know about it. So here is question, Is This list ok ? Or am i being picky? Since I dont have any grudge against them, I just want to be fair, honest and I would like to hear you suggestions, before I would submit this list.   • What sort of things can cause a whole system to appear to hang for 100s-1000s of milliseconds?

    I am working on a Windows game and while rendering, some computers will experience intermittent pauses ("hitches" for lack of a better term). When profiled they appear in seemingly random places in the code. Eventually I noticed that it wasn't just my process that was affected, but (seemingly) every process on the system. All of the threads in my application hitch at once. The CPU utilization drops during these hitches and it appears as if most processes make no progress. This leads me to believe this may be an Operating System or Driver issue, but it only occurs while playing the game (and only on some systems). What sort of operations might the operating system be doing that would require the kernel to pause all user threads and block. Some kind of I/O? At first I thought of paging but my impression is that would only affect a single process, no? Some systems in use: Windows, DirectX (3d), nVidia cards (unknown if replicates on ATI), using overlapped io for streaming

  • Can you disavow a whole domain apart from the index page?

    Many years ago I may have bought a few sitewide links for some of my sites, these have now come back to haunt me and I need to sort them out. I've tried to contact the owners but they're too lazy to bother changing the sites so I figure it's time to disavow the links. But is there a way to disavow all of the sitewide links on the domain apart from on the index page and would this be a benefit to leave the index or would it still be seen as spammy?   • What things need to be considered when redeveloping the whole UI for a web app?

    I am the lead developer on a thick client web app (Java swing) which we're looking at recreating as a web app. We're part way through some initial work, have chosen a framework on the server and integrated with our previous backend code. We're just starting to get into the client side of things, looking at javascript frameworks etc. The previous system was pretty sensibly architected so the logic is already serverside. The challenge ahead of us is really about redeveloping the user interface rather than anything else. What would be the list of things to consider in redeveloping the entire user interface for any application? I'm trying to get an idea of how large a task might still be ahead of me and the team.

  • How can we make the video play in a small view and also filling that whole view?

    I have added an imageView of size 300*300 into the interface in my ipad project. I can play the video fullscreen using MPMOviePlayerController. And I am trying to make it play in the imageView by using the following code. [imageView1 addSubview:moviePlayer.view]; [self.moviePlayer play]; Its playing but not as fullscreen and also not filling the whole imageview. Its kind of playing on the top quarter of the view and that too not the whole movie view - about lower right 60% only. How can I fix this? How can I make the movie play on the whole imageview like it plays on the full screen?

  • what's the best (most effecient) way in asp .net to return a whole page into tabbed content?

    what i want to do is every time i click on a tab, the content area is replaced by pretty much a whole new page. i don't want a full page load so i want to do it in ajax, but i'm used to sending back small jason data via page methods. i'm not sure how i would construct a whole new page and return that via ajax and i would like to simply assign the whole content returned to a div and be done with it. what's the best way to do this with the least amount of overhead (i know there are some inefficient ways the scriptmanager does ajax)? or is it better to load the tabbed content in an iframe? fyi i'm already using jquery to call lightweight pagemethods on my asp net page and that works great.

  • How to make Chrome spell check the whole text field?

    On Firefox, whenever a word is incorrect in a text field, it is underlined in red. Chrome does the same but the difference is that it underlines in red only when I move the caret over the word. So if I want to spell check the whole text field, I have to move the caret from the beginning to the end of the text field. Is it possible to make Chrome works more like Firefox and spell check the entire text field automatically?

I cannot save this variable in the registry of the local machine under HKCU, because the users are likely to exchange their machines. This variable must be accessible on the whole domain.     I know with readline you can use emacs or vi commands to edit the input of several interactive text programs. I wonder if there exists such a similar facility to control the whole desktop in Gnome or in any other desktop environment. Maybe it could be a program that intercepts keystrokes and process them in the way vi does, translating sequences of characters to desktop commands and delivering to the active window only the text that is writen in insert mode. Do you know some tool like that?

    What software can take a snapshot of a Win XP or Win 7 machine -- burning all files into a DVD-R, and then be able to boot from that DVD-R can restore the whole machine back to that state stored inside the DVD-R? Maybe for Win XP, it is easier as the OS can be just 1 or 2GB on the hard drive, but for Win 7, a fresh installation is already 16GB on the hard drive, so it will need several DVD-R to take the snapshot? thanks. (any of these software are open source?)

  • What do you do when you need whole-words search in Firefox?

    Example: I am looking to see if "arg" is a special keyword in Lua. I go to the Lua reference manual at http://www.lua.org/manual/5.1/manual.html. I search for "arg". I find hundreds of occurrences of the word "argument(s)" or "vararg". Any ideas? I know Firefox won't implement whole words as a core feature (something about cluttering up the ui... argh...), and I couldn't find a good addon that implemented this well.

  • Is it possible to really delete a Facebook chat message or the whole chat?

    Ok, so a few months ago me and a friend send a whole bunch of smileys to each other in Facebook chat just for fun. I wish I had known at that time how stupid that was. Even until today, every time I open the chat with that contact, the Facebook tab totally locks up when I try to load that chat. It will load eventually after five minutes or so, but it becomes very inconvenient at times. On Facebook Messenger for Android, there's no problem and the chat works fine. I'd like to know if there's any way to completely delete a Facebook chat (not archive them) and start over so it won't load the smileys anymore.

    This might sound a little bit silly but please bear with me. Somehow I changed my default display font, the one that Windows uses for system dialog boxes, accept/cancel buttons, pretty much everything in the system (it even goes as far as to change how my the text in my web browser appears). Now everything that it's affected looks like under the effects of the bold button in office (very black and very thick words). This is an inconvenience for example on some mail accounts who use this effect to display unread messages. Is there any way to return it to its default state, non "bold" typography for the whole system?

  • Can i change the subnet on the vpn side of a server without having to change its whole lan (to avoid collission)

    Ohai, ive got a xp server with a client connecting via VPN. Problem (as we all know) is that sometimes the subnets clash. Instead of changing the whole server network every time this happens, cant i just have the server appear to have a different subnet to vpn clients? I have no interest in accessing other computers than the server on its LAN. I tried just turning off automatic dhcp in the servers vpn settings and changed it to 172.31.255.x. The client gets the address assigned alright and it can ping 172.31.255.1 but i cannot ping the server name (because the dns on the clients vpn connection points at 192.168.0.1?) wisdom? PS everything worked until the client hit a network with the same subnet as the server lan. thanks

  • Restrict whole system on certain cores except a few process?

    Hi I am running some latency sensitive program on a Linux machine (more specifically, CentOS 6), and I don't want the threads of the process being preempted. So in my plan, the first step is to set cpu affinity of the threads so that threads are running on separate cores, so they don't preempt each other. Then the second step is to make sure other processes in the system not running on these cores. So my question is: is it possible to restrict the whole system running on certain cores, except this process? This should apply to any newly created processes in the future.

  • How can I make a core-plot graph on the phone that doesn't auto-expand to fill the whole superview

    I'm pretty sure I saw an example where the graph wasn't filling the whole iPhone screen, but I can't get that to happen in my app, nor in the Core-Plot Test app from Switch On The Code. I've added a subview to the original CPLayerHostingView in the sample, then changed the classes – original back to UIView, new subview to CPLayerHostingView, and I've reconnected the File's owner's view outlet to the new subview. When I create a graph with: graph = [[CPXYGraph alloc] initWithFrame: theSubviewOutlet.bounds]; … and step through the first stages of building up the layers the bounds are accurate (i.e. the same as in the .xib) however, when all the initialization is done, and the graph shows up, it fills the whole superview. Am I missing something obvious?
