• FindBugs not accepting bcel.jar in ANT script

• What's Your Biggest Visual Studio 2008 Annoyance?

  I love Visual Studio about 90% of the time, but that last 10% it is such a PITA it makes me want to launch my monitor off the desk. My latest annoyances: It won't remember my toolbar settings. I don't want any toolbars, ever. Quit popping open the CSS editor or XML editor or text editor everytime I open a file. Doesn't remember which regions I had expanded or collapsed and as far as I know there is no way to tell it to always open files with the regions expanded. When editing CSS or HTML the damn error list wants to pop up each time I start a tag and haven't finished it yet. First of all, don't pop up at all. And if you're going to ... give me a couple seconds to finish what I'm doing. The best part ... • NSIS takes ownership of IIS system files

  I recently encountered an issue with NSIS that I believe is related to an interaction with UAC, but I am at a loss to explain it and I do not know how to prevent it in the future. I have an installer that creates and removes IIS virtual directories using the NsisIIS plugin. The installer appeared worked correctly on my Windows 7 workstation. When the installer was run on a Windows 2008 R2 server it installed properly, but the uninstaller removed all of the virtual directories and put IIS is an unusable state; to the point that I had to remove the Default Web Site and re-add it. What I eventually found was that all of the IIS configuration files under C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\config had a lock icon on them. Some investigation seem to indicate that this means a user account has taken ownership of the file, however all the files listed SYSTEM as the file owner. I did check a different server that I have not run the installer on, and it does not have the lock icon applied to the IIS files. I have also seen the same lock icon appear on other files that the NSIS installer creates. For instance, I have a Web.Config.tpl file that is processed using the NSIS ReplaceInFile which also appears with the lock icon after the installer finished. After I explicitly grant another user account access to the file, the lock icon goes away. I run the installer under the local Administrator account on the 2008 R2 server, so I do not get the UAC prompt. • Why does Tfs2010 build my Wix project before anything else?

  Hi all, A similar question was asked and answered about a year ago, but was either a different issue (everything was in beta) or misdiagnosed. It's located here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/688162/msbuild-task-fails-because-any-cpu-solution-is-built-out-of-order. My issue is that I have a wix installer project, and after upgrading to Tfs2010 on monday, the build fails on linking because it can't find the build product of the Wpf application in the project. After some digging, it's because it hasn't been built yet. Building in Vs2010 works as normal. The wix project is set to depend on the Wpf project, and when viewing Project Build Order in the IDE, everything looks as normal. The problem was originally encountered with only two platform definitions in the solution; x86 and x64. There are also two flavors, Debug and Release, and TFSBuild.proj is set to build all four combinations. There was no occurence of AnyCPU anywhere. Per the referenced question above, I tried changing the Wpf project to use AnyCPU so that it would be built first. At this point, the wix project used the exact configuration and the Wpf project used the flavor with AnyCPU. However, doing so didn't seem to change anything. I'm using the Tfs2010 RTM, Vs2010 RTM, and the most recent version of Wix, which at the time of this writing is 3.5.1602.0, from 2010-04-02. Anyone else running into this?

• Having problem dynamically invoking unmanaged VB COM dll from c#?

I can successfully loaded the dll using loadLibrary , but the GetProcAddress always return 0. • C# Communication between threads.

  Hi, I am using .NET 3.5 and am trying to wrap my head around a problem (not being a supreme threading expert bear with me). I have a windows service which has a very intensive process that is always running, I have put this process onto a separate thread so that the main thread of my service can handle operational tasks - i.e., service audit cycles, handling configuration changes, etc, etc. I'm starting the thread via the typical ThreadStart to a method which kicks the process off - call it workerthread. On this workerthread I am sending data to another server, as is expected the server reboots every now and again and connection is lost and I need to re-establish the connection (I am notified by the lost of connection via an event). From here I do my reconnect logic and I am back in and running, however what I easily started to notice to happen was that I was creating this worker thread over and over again each time (not what I want). Now I could kill the workerthread when I lose the connection and start a new one but this seems like a waste of resources. What I really want to do, is marshal the call (i.e., my thread start method) back to the thread that is still in memory although not doing anything. Please post any examples or docs you have that would be of use. Thanks.

• extracting SWF gives compiler errors in adobe flash CS4

  Hey, I have been given an SWF to edit a link in the AS code. The fact is the SWF uses some XML that is generated (actually retrieved) by PHP code from a database. menuXML.load("/sub/page/dynamic.php?genre=" + genre); so the point is we can use the same SWF 'mainfraim' and fill them with different animations/sources based on the link provided in dynamic.php?genre=### Now, I've used Flash Decompiler Gold to extract all files in the SWF and can open it again in Adobe Flash to edit it. When done I enter CTRL+ENTER and there are immediately 4 compiler errors!! Errors: 1x < Unexpected 'if' encountered 2x < Statement block must be terminated by '}' 1x < Ecpected a field name after '.' operator. How can these errors be present, when the original SWF works perfectly??! If I don't manage to solve this, I'll have to find out how to create an .php file the SWF tries to use which can select the proper resources (from a database I guess) to show them (using ?genre=###) Thanks!

• PHP DOM vs SimpleXML for Atom GData feed parsing

  I'm building a library to access the Google Analytics Data Export API. All the data the library accesses is in Atom format and utilises numerous different namespaces throughout. My experiments with the API have used SimpleXML for parsing so far, especially as all I have been doing is accessing the data held within the feed. Now I'm coming to write a library I am wondering whether forging ahead with SimpleXML will be adequate or whether the enhanced functionality of the DOM module in PHP would be of benefit in the future. I haven't written much code for this part of the library yet so the choice is still open. I have read that the PHP DOM module can be a better choice if you need to build an XML DOM on the fly or modify an existing one, but I'm not entirely sure I would need that functionality anyway due to the nature of the API (no pushing data to the server, for instance). SimpleXML is certainly easier to use and I have seen people saying that for read-only situations it is all you need. Essentially the question is, what would you use? Compatibility will not be an issue as the server configuration will match the application's requirements. Is it worth building the library with PHP DOM in mind or should I stick with SimpleXML for now? Update: Here are two examples of the kind of feeds I will be dealing with: Account feed Data feed

• 500 error using lighttpd, fastcgi and PHP on file upload

  I have a server running lighttpd with fastcgi, and it appears to be working correctly. However when I try to upload a file using a form, I get a 500 Internal server error, along with the following in the logs: 2012-03-23 18:25:09: (mod_fastcgi.c.2566) unexpected end-of-file (perhaps the fastcgi process died): pid: 2755 socket: unix:/tmp/php-fastcgi-1.socket-0 2012-03-23 18:25:09: (mod_fastcgi.c.3354) response not received, request sent: 50437 on socket: unix:/tmp/php-fastcgi-1.socket-0 for /index.php?url=brand/manager, closing connection I've been looking around for a long while now trying to find a solution to the issue, but nothing I'm trying is working. My current fastcgi conf looks as follows: server.modules += ( "mod_fastcgi" ) fastcgi.server = ( ".php" => (( "socket" => "/tmp/php-fastcgi-1.socket", "bin-path" => "/usr/bin/php-cgi", "allow-x-send-file" => "enable", "max-procs" => 1, "broken-scriptfilename" => "enable" )) ) If anyone could suggest if there is anything wrong in the configuration it would be greatly appreciated, or any suggestion as to what I might do?   SharePoint is generally very tolerant of accepting a URL in a case-insensitive fashion, however there are a few cases where it completely breaks down. For example, when creating a site column it somehow stores and uses the URL when it was created, and when trying to edit the field definition through the Site Column Gallery (fldedit.aspx page in the LAYOUTS) you end up throwing the error below. • Boto - How to delete a record set from route53 -Tried to delete resource record set but it was not found

  I am using the following to delete route53 records. I get no error messages. conn = Route53Connection(aws_access_key_id, aws_secret_access_key) changes = ResourceRecordSets(conn, zone_id) change = changes.add_change("DELETE",sub_domain, "A", 60,weight=weight,identifier=identifier) change.add_value(ip_old) changes.commit() all required fields are present and they match..weight, identifier, ttl=60 etc.\ e.g. test.com. A 111.111.111.111 60 1 id1 test.com. A 111.111.111.222 60 1 id2 I want to delete 111.111.111.222 and the record set. So, what is the proper way to delete a record set? For a record set, I will have multiple values that are distinguished by a unique identifier. When an ip address becomes in active I want to remove from route53. I am using a a poor mans load balancing. • Front End Developer v/s PHP-MySQL Engineer

  Hello, I want to decide which of this would be a more viable career option? I am ready to quit my current job and hence I am looking for new opportunity. Current job is maintainence and no more active development. My current role is of a PHP/MySQL Developer. I very well understand web-programming and am comfortable with RoR/Sinatra/Zend MVC/JQuery/JSON manipulation, etc. I understand MySQL InnoDB/MyISAM engine and how one differs from the other, etc. Basically, I could very well manage the deployment of a web-application end-to-end including configuration of Apache/Nginx servers, memcache,etc On the other hand, I am being offered a Sr.Front End Web developer that would require me to extensively write HTML/CSS crossbrowser/crossplatform compliant code. I very well understand XHTML/CSS/Box model etc. I would be working on Drupal for the management of websites. While I understand continuing to work on server-side technologies would always be a good career path, how would the role of Core front-end developer turn out to be? If I take this opportunity, will I eventually get a chance to focus onto UCD, HCI, Information Architect,etc. So are these kinda roles possible if I focus on front end development? No offenses to the Front end developers, just want to understand if this is something I want to gain a mastery over. I have 2 yrs of industry experience after graduating with a MS-Computer Science. Although, I have a CS degree, if I were to take uip serious front-end role; I could probably go back and take up some design/HCI/UI courses. Please advise.

• Apache & SVN on Ubuntu - Post-commit hook fails silently, pre-commit hook "Permission Denied"

  I've been struggling for the past couple days to get post-commit email notifications working on my SVN server (running via HTTP with Apache2 on Ubuntu 9.10). SVN commits work fine, but for some reason the hooks are not being properly executed. Here are the configuration settings: - Users access the repo via HTTP with the apache dav_svn module (I created users/passwords via htpasswd in a dav_svn.passwd file). dav_svn.conf: <Location /svn/repos> DAV svn SVNPath /home/svn/repos AuthType Basic AuthName "Subversion Repository" AuthUserFile /etc/apache2/dav_svn.passwd Require valid-user </Location> I created a post-commit hook file that writes a simple message to a file in the repository root: /home/svn/repos/hooks/post-commit: #!/bin/sh REPOS="$1" REV="$2" /bin/echo 'worked' > ${REPOS}/postcommit.log I set the entire repository to be owned by www-data (the apache user), and assigned 755 permissions to the post-commit script when I test the post-commit script using the www-data user in an empty environment, it works: sudo -u www-data env - /home/svn/repos/hooks/post-commit /home/svn/repos 7 But when I commit on a client machine, the commit is successful, but the post-commit script does not seem to be executed. I also tried running a simple script for the pre-commit hook, and I get an error, even with an empty pre-commit script: "Commit failed (details follow): Can't create null stdout for hook '/home/svn/repos/hooks/pre-commit': Permission denied" I did a few searches on Google for this error and I presume that this is an issue with the apache user (www-data) not having adequate permissions, specifically to execute /dev/null. I also read that the reason post-commit fails silently is because that it doesn't report with stdout. Anyway, I've also tried giving the apache user (www-data) ownership of the entire repository, and edited the apache virtualhost to allow operations on the server root, and I'm still getting permission denied /etc/apache2/sites-available/primarydomain.conf <Directory /> Options FollowSymLinks AllowOverride None Order allow,deny Allow from all </Directory> Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated! • Getting a gestureoverlayview

  I have been using some nice tutorials on drawing graphics on my android. I wanted to also add in the cool gesture demo found here: http://developer.android.com/resources/articles/gestures.html That takes these lines of code: GestureOverlayView gestures = (GestureOverlayView) findViewById(R.id.gestures); gestures.addOnGesturePerformedListener(this); This is fine and dandy yet I realize in my demo i'm trying to build using code from "Playing with Graphics in Android". The demos make sense, everything makes sense but I found out by using: setContentView(new Panel(this)); as is required by the Playing With Graphics tutorials, then the findViewById seems to no longer be valid and returns null. At first I was about to post a stupider question as to why this is happening, a quick test of playing with the setContentView made me realize the cause of findViewById returning null, I just do not know how to remedy this issue. Whats the key I am missing here? I realize that the new Panel is doinking some reference up but I am not sure how to make the connection here.   Hi, I want to use JPA (eclipselink) to get data from my database. The database is changed by a number of other sources and I therefore want to go back to the database for every find I execute. I have read a number of posts on disabling the cache but this does not seem to be working. Any ideas?   Ok the thing is that I am using asp.net mvc with linq to sql. I have a scenario where there are two tables group and features with many to many relationship with the third table groupfeatures. I have drag and drop all three table in the dbml file. • Practical value for concurrent-request-timeout parameter

  In the Seam Reference Guide, one can find this paragraph: We can set a sensible default for the concurrent request timeout (in ms) in components.xml: <core:manager concurrent-request-timeout="500" /> However, we found that 500 ms is not nearly enough time for most of the cases we had to deal with, especially with the severe restriction seam places on conversation access. In our application we have a combination of page scoped ajax requests (triggered by various use actions), some global scoped polling notification logic (part of the header, so included in every page) and regular links that invoke actions and/or navigate to other pages. Therefore, we get the dreaded concurrent access to conversation exception way too often, even without any significant load on the site. After researching the options for quite a bit, we ended up bumping this value to several seconds (we're debating whether to bump it up to 10s), as none of the recommended solutions seemed able to solve our issue completely (even forcing a global queue for all the ajax requests would still leave us exposed to a user deciding to click a link right when one of our polling calls was in progress). And we'd much rather have the users wait for a second or two instead of getting an error page just because they clicked a link at the wrong moment. And now to the question: is there something obvious we're missing (like a way to allow concurrent access to conversations and taking care of the needed locking ourselves, for instance :)? How do people solve this problem (ajax requests mixed with user driven interaction) in seam? Disabling all the links on the page while ajax requests are in progress (as suggested by one blog page) is really not a viable option. Any other suggestions? TIA, Andrei

• Is there a way to create a SyndicationFeed from a String?

  Hi, I'm trying to recreate a SyndicationFeed object (System.ServiceModel.Syndication) from XML data that has been stored locally. If I were working with XMLDocument, this would be easy.I'd call LoadXml(string). The SyndicationFeed will only load from an XMLReader. The XMLReader will only take a Stream or another XMLReader or a TextReader. Since XMLDocument will load a string, I've tried to do this as follows (in the form of a Extension Method): public static SyndicationFeed ToSyndicationFeed(this XmlDocument document) { Stream thestream = Stream.Null; XmlWriter thewriter = XmlWriter.Create(thestream); document.WriteTo(thewriter); thewriter.Flush(); XmlReader thereader = XmlReader.Create(thestream); SyndicationFeed thefeed = SyndicationFeed.Load(thereader); return thefeed; } I can't get this to work. • MonoDevelop: Addin generation issues

  I am having problems creating the root.mrep file for a updated MonoDevelop Addin. The Addin was originally built for MonoDevelop 2.2. I am able to build the updated project but when I use mdrun.exe setup rep-build to generate the .mrep files(main and root) it only generates the main.mrep file and not the root.mrep file. Is there a new way of building the addin that I am missing? I used both setup pack and then setup rep-build.   I got a web deyploment project for a web application project in vs 2008. While building the web deployment project, I want to replace properties in the web.config. My settings are autogenrated by the deisgner. <applicationSettings> <NAMESPACE.Properties.Settings> <setting name="Testenvironment" serializeAs="String"> <value>True</value> </setting> </NAMESPACE.Properties.Settings> </applicationSettings> In the config file which contains the settings for the specific server looks like the following: <?xml version="1.0"?> <applicationSettings> <NAMESPACE.Properties.Settings> <setting name="Testenvironment" serializeAs="String"> <value>False</value> </setting> </NAMESPACE.Properties.Settings> </applicationSettings> Sadly, this does not work. I get an error "The format of a configSource file must be an element containing the name of the section" that highlights the second line (2nd example code). How must the Tag be named in order to make evertything work? Edit: Deleting the "applicationSetting"-Tags does not work either.

• Trying to save file from Flash to PHP using $GLOBALS["HTTP_RAW_POST_DATA"]

  Let me start by saying PHP isn't my forte, I'm usually reluctant to try working with it because of problems exactly like this. The code works fine on my local machine under MAMP and on my server, but doesn't on the clients server :'( So what am I trying to do, well - save an image from Flash onto the server, simple right?! I'm using the method described on this site here: http://designreviver.com/tutorials/actionscript-3-jpeg-encoder-revealed-saving-images-from-flash/ but have made a small alteration so that instead of echoing the jpg causing the browser to download it locally, I do an fwrite and an fclose to save it to the server. Here is my PHP: $imageFile = '../images/' . $_GET['name']; $imageHandle = fopen($imageFile, "w"); fwrite($imageHandle, $jpg); fclose($imageHandle); } ? I've dona a phpinfo() on my clients server and it's running 5.2.2 my host is running 5.2.11 I don't know if much can have changed in those 9 minor revisions? I've also read another question on here which suggests making suer always_populate_raw_post_data is set to ON, but it's set to OFF on all of the server environments I've been testing in. I'm doing some XML saving using file_get_contents('php://input') which I've tried but failed to get working with images. Any help would be gratefully received, I'm happy to post the AS3 as well but it's EXACTLY the same as example I've linked above and works locally. As far as I can tell the problem lies with the PHP.
