  • Ubuntu 13.10 upgrade error. Dropping to low graphics mode

    I was updating from the terminal and it was complete. It asked me if I would like to reboot now. I accidentally pressed 't' instead of 'y' and then it just asked me to reboot manually. Then I rebooted using sudo shutdown now -r And on reboot, the system flashed the "low graphics mode" error screen and its stuck there. I have 13.10 live-USB with me. Is there any way I can get my system to boot normally? I'm not willing to do a fresh install as I had installed several other packages. Another question: is there any diff if I drop into terminal using Alt+Ctrl+F1 or if I use chroot from a live session?

    Possible Duplicate: Slow wireless with an Intel 4965 We run Ubuntu 12.04, 32bit, with the current kernel 3.2.27-generic on an MSI EX700. I've already added the 11n_disable=1 tweek, without whcih, wireless has been unusable. Now, it works OK, but speedtest shows: Windows XP - down 11.68mbps, up 2.07mbps Ubuntu 12.04 - down 2.06mbps up 2.0mbps We've disabled ipv6, tried static and dinamic IPs, tried both swcrypto=0 and swcrypto=1 options, none of whcih made any difference. The problem may be the symptom of high packet loss.   • How well supported is the ATI graphics on a Sony VAIO SA?

    This is the first time i will be buying a laptop/desktop to use as a Ubuntu platform with ATI. Now i did notice a while back that ATI drivers were not in cahoots with Linux as of yet. I am just wondering if any one is still experiencing ATI issues, or this is no longer the case. I am looking to spend money on a laptop Upgrade, but I don't want to spend a screw load of money just to find out I can only use windows and my Graphics driver does not work. So the Question is: What's ATI Support like on Ubuntu 10.10 Here is what im thinking of buying http://www.gadgetfreak.gr/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/SB_S08_keyboard_B_us_FP-1024x716.jpg, If any one has the Sony VAIO SA Series and installed Ubuntu on it, please do share your story, about driver problems. On a side note my old Sony S-Series which im using now, i never got the fingerprint reader or the webcam working on it, has any one been able to do this for the new models? I preferably dont care about the fingerprint reader but do care about the webcam.

  • How to make Bumblebee work with HP Pavilion DV6T-7000 Quad Edition with Intel HD 4000 and Nvidia GeForce GT 650M 2GB?

    I just recently bought a HP DV6T-7000 Quad Edition. It has an Intel HD 4000 and a Nvidia GeForce GT 650M 2GB with Optimus. I read that I could use bumblebee to make optimus work, so I installed it. I also installed bumblebee-nvidia and nvidia-current from the ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates ppa. I rebooted, but when I tried to run anything with optirun, the computer would wait ten seconds or so, then do a hard shutdown. I got no log messages from bumblebee, Xorg, or optirun, either. I have purged and reinstalled bumblebee, bumblebee-nvidia, and nvidia-current. I have also set the turned off power management in the bumblebee.conf file to no avail. I am out of ideas about this, and I need both options. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

  • What is the most cross-browser/system compatible option for 3d graphics on a web page?

    I would like to develop a bit of functionality for a web site that involves a bit of 3D - the user can move around objects, rotate them and texture them. So far I've looked into: WebGL (in particular three.js) and it looks great, but it's not supported in IE nor IOS. IOS supports the <canvas> tag, but only 2d. It looks like three.js has an unsupported hack to make a 3d thing use the 2d canvas instead without textures, but this looks like a hack. I also considered resorting to Flash which works on most browsers, but that won't work on IOS. What's my best option for doing 3d web graphics on the vast array of browsers and interfaces? At the moment I'm thinking WebGL for web (and ask people to use chrome or firefox, and take the hit on IE) and then maybe write a native app for IOS, but I am not sure if there are better alternatives available that I don't know of.

  • Why does Ubuntu Freezes on ASUS K42DY laptop with RADEON HD6470M Graphics Card?

    Hi,I have an ASUS K42DY laptop with AMD Phenom II x2, 8 GB Ram , 500 GB Hard Drive and has a didicated ATI RADEON HD 6470M Graphics Card and I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64bit on it. I have installed GNOME 3 and also followed this Make Ubuntu look like Mac OS X. I have also installed apps from the software center, getdeb & playdeb all of which worked fine. However, I noticed that Ubuntu freezes after inactivity let's say 1-3hrs. I have already set power setting to never standby or hibernate. This is completely annoying because all I can do is log-out via ctrl+alt+del or manually shut down and reboot my laptop. What should I do? By the way, this happens on all shells Unity, Gnome (even with the basic) and Cairo Dock.I set Swap Space at 8GB during installation. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

  • Recommend a basic 3D graphics card for HP ProLiant DL360 G5?

    We've got an HP ProLiant DL360 G5 running Windows Server 2008 R2 that needs a graphics card with 3D acceleration (the integrated ATI ES1000 graphics don't have this). This is an unfortunate requirement that we can't avoid, as it is required by S/W installed on the server that is beyond our control. Looks like the PCI-Express slots in the box are x8 (1 full and 1 low profile). We just need a basic card, as long as it has the 3D acceleration. Any recommendations?

  • Ball to Ball Collision - Detection and Handling

    With the help of the Stack Overflow community I've written a pretty basic-but fun physics simulator. You click and drag the mouse to launch a ball. It will bounce around and eventually stop on the "floor". My next big feature I want to add in is ball to ball collision. The ball's movement is broken up into a x and y speed vector. I have gravity (small reduction of the y vector each step), I have friction (small reduction of both vectors each collision with a wall). The balls honestly move around in a surprisingly realistic way. I guess my question has two parts: What is the best method to detect ball to ball collision? Do I just have an O(n^2) loop that iterates over each ball and checks every other ball to see if it's radius overlaps? What equations do I use to handle the ball to ball collisions? Physics 101 How does it effect the two balls speed x/y vectors? What is the resulting direction the two balls head off in? How do I apply this to each ball? Handling the collision detection of the "walls" and the resulting vector changes were easy but I see more complications with ball-ball collisions. With walls I simply had to take the negative of the appropriate x or y vector and off it would go in the correct direction. With balls I don't think it is that way. Some quick clarifications: for simplicity I'm ok with a perfectly elastic collision for now, also all my balls have the same mass right now, but I might change that in the future. In case anyone is interested in playing with the simulator I have made so far, I've uploaded the source here (EDIT: Check the updated source below). I have the ball collision detection and response working great!     I'm trying to display a PDF of music using the Quartz 2D calls: CGPDFDocumentGetPage and CGPDFPageGetDrawingTransform The problem is that some horizontal lines in the PDF get drawn thicker than others. The biggest problem is that I notice this in Preview on the Mac and on iPhone/iPad. Even when viewing this PDF in the iPhone/iPad mail, I get the same problem. Here is the example: http://aronnelson.com/problem/pdfproblem.jpg Note that the PDF on the left is preview, the PDF on the right is the same file but in Google Docs. See how clean the Google Docs version is? Is there any way to fix this problem? Would it help to draw the PDF larger and zoom down using a UIScrollView? Any help appreciated.   • CATiledLayer: Determining levelsOfDetail when in drawLayer

    I have a CATiledLayer inside a UIScrollView and all is working fine. Now I want to add support for showing different tiles for three levels of zooming. I have set levelsOfDetail to 3 and my tile size is 300 x 300. This means I need to provide three sets of tiles (I'm supplying PNGs) to cover: 300 x 300, 600 x 600 and 1200 x 1200. My problem is that inside "(void)drawLayer:(CALayer *)layer inContext:(CGContextRef)ctx" I cannot work out which levelOfDetail is currently being drawn. I can retrieve the bounds currently required by using CGContextGetClipBoundingBox and usually this requests a rect for one of the above sizes, but at layer edges the tiles are usually smaller and therefore this isn't a good method. Basically, if I have set levelsOfDetail to 3, how do I find out if drawLayer is requesting level 1, 2 or 3 when it's called? Thanks, Russell.

    Hi, I have to draw underlined-multiline text with all types of text alignment. I have searched on forums and got some results like: http://davidjhinson.wordpress.com/2009/11/26/underline-text-on-the-iphone/ http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=561572 But all draw text for single line only. while i have multi-line text. The situation even become worse when the text alignment is centered. I searched and found that in iphone-sdk-3.2 there are some core-text attributes for underlining a text but no idea how to use that. Besides if I use these my problem would not be solved fully. As I have to draw strikethrough text also. Anybody having idea about this please help.
