Why does microsoft office and other office suites have their own formats, why don't all processors use HTML? as it extremely universal.
What advantages are they to saving a document as doc/docx over html?
Using Microsoft Word 2007, is it possible to replace the newline character (\n) with some other character?
What about vice versa? (That is replace a character with the newline character).

I've heard people talking about full drive or partition encryption for laptops and desktops alike, and they consistently put down Microsoft's BitLocker. What is wrong with bitlocker, and is Truecrypt really that much better?
I've been following the migration guide at http://www.it-book.co.uk/1651/migration-from-sbs-2003-to-sbs-2011-3.
The option "Migrate Exchange mailbox and settings" links me to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg563803.aspx
When I get to the stage of right-clicking "Move All Replicas", it instantly hangs.
I can't see anything specifically in the event viewer at the time this happens.
Is this a case of waiting, or is there something more going on here?
When I paste two images into Microsoft Word and I set Wrap Text To Square:
and then group them so they stick nicely together, I can no longer Wrap Text around this newly grouped image.
Any explanation why text wrapping is disabled for grouped images?
Note: if I don't change the Wrap Text option, I can't group them. This is for Word 2010 on Windows 7, but I've had this problem with every version of Word.
Hello,
I have a VM with a .vhd file however, when I connet to the VM (by RDP) and make some changes (create a directory and add a small file with notepad) the .VHD file stays unchanged. The 'Date modified' of the .VHD stays at the starttime of the VM.
1/How can we force an update of het VM while the VM is running?
2/Where aree the temporary changes kept?

I've just installed a new Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 5000 and it's X/Y calibration/alignment seems to be off.
If I move the mouse from left to right, the cursor will go up and down slightly. If I move the mouse from top to bottom, the cursor will also move from left to right slightly too.
I seem to remember in earlier version of Windows or Intelli Point, there was a calibration tool which would fix this issue.
Can anyone help?
Many Thanks
Stephen
I am reading a Microsoft word document 2007 and i keep seeing all this extra noise in the document.
For example:
Instead of seeing a link to google, i will see: {HYPERLINK http://www.google.com}
Instead of seeing table of contents, i will see {TOC \0 1-2}
any idea whats going on?
Are there any tools that would help with comprehension of technical documents that contain a mix of domain specific and company specific acronyms and jargon?
A tool that is functionally similar to the automatic acronym expansion done by Wikileaks in their Afgan War Diary (as seen at http://213.251.145.96/id/310B4FC4-2F89-4653-A546-1AD5D55BD9F7/) but ideally supports PDF or Microsoft Word documents. The list of acronyms and jargon and their expanded text could be provided in a separate file.
64-bit Office installs 64-bit IFilters for its document types, but does not install 32-bit IFilters. Therefore, 32-bit programs that rely on IFilters cannot work with 64-bit Office. And although there is an option to download 32-bit IFilters from Microsoft, the installer will not run on a 64-bit machine, complaining about architecture mismatch.
Is there any way to make 32-bit programs extract text from Office documents using IFilters when 64-bit Office is installed?
Thanks.
I get this message intermittently with Microsoft Web Expression 3:
The contents of a FrontPage component have been modified. These contents will be overwritten when you save this page.
I have read kb/219873, but it did not help.
Any ideas?

I've been using Microsoft Paint for a project I've been working on many years. I started to work on the project for the first time in almost two years and I've noticed, despite using the same font, size and settings the text I create is anti-aliased.
I'm using MS Paint 6.0.
EDIT: I changed my NVidia Driver Settings to this, but it's not working
Update: I managed to fix this by turning of cleartype, however webpages now look worse.
I have a list (e.g., a bulleted list) in Microsoft Word. This list is inside a table cell.
When I press Tab to increase the indent, rather than increasing the indent, it moves the cursor to the next cell. When I try Ctrl+Tab, it just inserts a tab character without changing the indentation of the bullet (paragraph).
How can I turn this off, so it does not go to the next cell but rather just indents the list?
I installed Office Enterprise edition on a brand new Optiplex 380 with Windows 7.
Access, Excel and Publisher works perfect, but Word and PowerPoint crash on startup.
I tried everything on the KB post from Microsoft.
Any help will be great.
Thanks, Geo
I know you can add custom Document Properties in Excel 2007.
see: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel/HA100475241033.aspx#5
But I thought there was a way to pull a value from a cell as a custom metadata property
without code. Maybe I'm searching for it with the wrong terminology. Maybe it has to be done as a Named Range. I know this can be done. Anyone know how?
I'm using Windows 7 Basic and Microsoft Office 2007 and I write word documents using
not English characters (a, t, s).
When I give them to other people, these special characters show up as squares.
Anybody knows why, is there a fix for this ?
I've noticed recently that Microsoft Word 2007 on Windows XP is opening by default straight text files as RTL instead of LTR. These are English written files, and contain no Unicode or characters other than ASCII. I work in three or four languages on the computer so have the language bar open, this problem happens when the language is selected to EN (United Kingdom).
Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere, perhaps in Word itself?
Microsoft Outlook 2003:
I used to have two profiles with my Outlook, but I deleted it and now only have one. It is still asking me for what profile to choose. I have tried selecting the option to set it as my default multiple times, yet it still asks me. How can I stop it from asking me?
MS Paint is good but it lacks quality on some of its tools. I want to try its alternative software. Can you please give me a list of its alternatives.
I'm looking for simple software as MS Paint is. Please don't suggest me complicated software like Gimp and Photoshop. I have already tried Paint.NET, but it is too dependent on Microsoft .NET Framework, so it is very problematic to install in the first place.
I have to install third party software that requires that Microsoft Office 2007 be installed with ".NET Programmability Support".
Does anyone know how I can tell if this was installed?
Thanks!
My friend is using Microsoft Word for Mac (which is a total train smash). and we want to change the spell check from English (US) to English (UK).
This is what I have tried:
Make a spelling mistake otherwise you can't get to spelling options.
Click Tools Spelling and Grammar Options Dictionaries
Change language to English (UK) and click OK
Type an English (US) word 'Categorize'
Click Tools Spelling and Grammar - 'Spelling and Grammar check complete' i.e. it did not mark the work incorrect.
