  • WCF identity when moving from dev to prod. environment

    - by Anders Abel
I have a web service developed with WCF. In the development environment the endpoint has the following identity section under the endpoint configuration. <identity> <dns value="myservice.devdomain.local" /> </identity> myservice.devdomain.local is the dns name used to reach the development version of the service. The binding used is: <basicHttpBinding> <binding name ="myBinding"> <security mode ="TransportCredentialOnly"> <transport clientCredentialType="Windows"/> </security> </binding> </basicHttpBinding> I am about to put this into production. The binding will be the same, but the address will be a new production address myservice.proddomain.local. I have planned to change the dns value in the configuration to myservice.proddomain.local in the production environment. However this MSDN article on WCF Identity makes me worried about the impact on the clients when I change the identity. There are two clients - one .NET and one Java using this service. Both of those have been developed against the dev instance of the service. The idea is to just reconfigure the endpoint used by the clients, without reloading the WSDL. But if the identity is somehow part of the WSDL and the identity changes when deploying to prod that might not work. Will the new identity in the prod version cause issues for the clients that were developed using the dev wsdl? Do the Java and the .NET clients handle this differently?

  • Configuring zend to use gmail smtp: Windows Apache dev-environment: "Could not open socket" error - repeatedly - going mad

    - by confused
My dev environment is Win XP SP2 / Apache 2.something PHP 5.something_or_other My prod env is Linux Ubuntu / Apache 2.something_else PHP 5.something_or_other_else The code is all Zend Framework Version: 1.11.1 I can telnet to: smtp.gmail.com 465 from the PC. I have Mercury configured on my PC to use gmail as it's smtp host and it works just fine. (MercuryC SMTP Client). Mercury is set to use port 465 and SSL on smtp.gmail.com -- No problem. Zend mail works just fine on my production environment using the production mail server to send out mail. It's the same basic application.ini but with different values in the mail variables. On my local PC dev setup, my application.ini contains: (same values as I use in Mercury) mail.templatePath = APPLICATION_PATH "/emails" mail.sender.name = "myAccount" mail.sender.email = "[email protected]" mail.host = smtp.gmail.com mail.smtp.auth = "login" mail.smtp.username = "[email protected]" mail.smtp.password = "myPassWord" mail.smtp.ssl = "ssl" mail.smtp.port = 465 I have been doing trial and error for hours trying to get a single email out with no success. In every case, regardless of server or port settings it throws an error and reports: Could not open socket. Both Apache and Mercury Core are exceptions in my Windows Firewall config. Mercury seems to be having no problem. I have searched stackoverflow before posting this and have been googling for hours -- with no success. I am slowly losing my mind I would be very much obliged for any tip as to what might be wrong. Thanks for reading. =================== BTW When I use the SAME application.ini values on my local PC as on the production host, I get the same "Could not open socket" error. Those values are: mail.templatePath = APPLICATION_PATH "/emails" mail.sender.name = "otherUser" mail.sender.email = "[email protected]" mail.host = smtp.otherServer.com mail.smtp.auth = "login" mail.smtp.username = "[email protected]" mail.smtp.password = "otherPAssWord" mail.smtp.ssl = "ssl" mail.smtp.port = 465 I know these work in the production (Ubuntu) environment. I'm utterly baffled.

  • Resize Debian in VirtualBox

    - by Poni
I have a VM with one HD of size 3GB and I'd like to enlarge its HD to 7GB. So I execute this command on the host (while guest is shutdown): VBoxManage modifyhd debian.vdi --resize 7168 Then I run the guest, Debian 6, and then: smith@debian6:~$ df -h Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sda1 2.8G 2.6G 60M 98% / tmpfs 61M 0 61M 0% /lib/init/rw udev 57M 160K 57M 1% /dev tmpfs 61M 0 61M 0% /dev/shm smith@debian6:~$ sudo parted /dev/sda print Model: ATA VBOX HARDDISK (scsi) Disk /dev/sda: 3221MB Sector size (logical/physical): 512B/512B Partition Table: msdos Number Start End Size Type File system Flags 1 1049kB 3035MB 3034MB primary ext3 boot 2 3036MB 3220MB 185MB extended 5 3036MB 3220MB 185MB logical linux-swap(v1) smith@debian6:~$ cat /proc/partitions major minor #blocks name 8 0 3145728 sda 8 1 2962432 sda1 8 2 1 sda2 8 5 180224 sda5 So, no automatic resizing (detection) of the HD/partition (while VirtualBox, in the host, shows it's 7GB now). We recommend you use parted only to manipulate partition tables, whenever possible. Support for performing most operations on most types of file systems will be removed in an upcoming release. Partition number? 1 Start? 0 End? [3034MB]? Here I'm stuck. At the above parted it asks me to resize to 3GB. No point in that, right.. What should I do in order to enlarge this partition?

  • Why is mkfs overwriting the LUKS encryption header on LVM on RAID partitions on Ubuntu 12.04?

    - by Starchy
I'm trying to setup a couple of LUKS-encrypted partitions to be mounted after boot-time on a new Ubuntu server which was installed with LVM on top of software RAID. After running cryptsetup luksFormat, the LUKS header is clearly visible on the volume. After running any flavor of mkfs, the header is overwritten (which does not happen on other systems that were setup without LVM), and cryptsetup will no longer recognize the device as a LUKS device. # cryptsetup -y --cipher aes-cbc-essiv:sha256 --key-size 256 luksFormat /dev/dm-1 WARNING! ======== This will overwrite data on /dev/dm-1 irrevocably. • Successful login with iscsiadm on target still doesn't create block device

I've set up an experiment to test iscsitarget and initiator, which at some point worked. Later, I turned the setup back on and much to my dismay, the initiator machine stopped making block devices for its successful logins. As far as I know, I haven't changed anything on either machine. • Is it possible to rent a virtual instance of Windows/XP/Vista/7 in the cloud on pay as you go basis?

    - by Janusz
I am a software developer and I need to test my software on different OS all the time. I am using free VPC images from IE6 compat kit from Microsoft but they have only limited options of Windows Versions (Win XP SP3 and some restricted version of Vista). I need a service where I could rent a Virtual OS in the cloud and connect via Remote Dektop. Use for couple of hours and then discard all the stuff I have been doing there. I tried using Amazon S3 but they only have Windows Server 2003 Anyone knows of such a service that would offer different XP/Vista/7 versions ?

  • Why is my filesystem being mounted read-only in linux?

    - by Tim
I am trying to set up a small linux system based on Gentoo on a VirtualBox machine, as a step towards deploying the same system onto a low-spec Single Board Computer. For some reason, my filesystem is being mounted read-only. In my /etc/fstab, I have: /dev/sda1 / ext3 defaults 0 0 none /proc proc defaults 0 0 none /sys sysfs defaults 0 0 none /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0 However, once booted /proc/mounts shows rootfs / rootfs rw 0 0 /dev/root / ext3 ro,relatime,errors=continue,barrier=0,data=writeback 0 0 proc /proc proc rw,nosuid, nodev, noexec, relatime 0 0 sysfs /sys sysfs rw,nosuid, nodev, noexec, relatime 0 0 udev /dev tmpfs rw,nosuid,relatime,size=10240k,mode=755 0 0 devpts /dev/pts devpts rw,nosuid,noexec,relatime,gid=5,mode=620 0 0 none /dev/shm tmpfs rw,relatime 0 0 usbfs /proc/bus/usb usbfs rw,nosuid,noexec,relatime,devgid=85,devmode=664 0 0 binfmt_misc /proc/sys/fs/binfmt_misc binfmt_misc rw,nosuid, nodev, noexec, relatime 0 0 (the above may contain errors: there's no practical way to copy and paste) The partition at /dev/hda1 is clearly being mounted OK, since I can read all the data, but it's not being mounted as described in fstab. How might I go about diagnosing / resolving this? Edit: I can remount with mount -o remount,rw / and it works as expected, except that /proc/mounts reports /dev/root mounted at / rather than /dev/sda1 as I'd expect. If I try to remount with mount -a I get mount: none already mounted or /sys busy mount: according to mtab, sysfs is already mounted on /sys Edit 2: I resolved the problem with mount -a (the same error was occuring during startup, it turned out) by changing the sysfs and proc lines to proc /proc proc [...] sysfs /sys sysfs [...] Now mount -a doesn't complain, but it doesn't result in a read-write root partition. mount -o remount / does cause the root partition to be remounted, however.

  • Finding a shared HDD attached to the network from my F-13 machine

Sorry for the slew of n00bie questions, but here is one more. I recently partitioned my 1.5TB harddrive according to this question I then bought this to attach the harddrive to my network. The problem is, how do I navigate to the hard drive to move files over the network to the HDD. should this be moved to serverfault? update: the disk isn't even showing up when i call "fdisk -l" (as root). • Adding third disk as a single disk in a server with an existing RAID1

    - by slowhandsolo
I've got a ProLiant DL360 G5 server (Fedora 13) with two SAS disks in a hardware RAID 1, working fine. Now I hot plugged another SAS disk. I'd like to configure this new hard disk out of my RAID, as a single non-RAID disk (ex. /dev/sdb). Even after rebooting the server, I can't see the new disk with "fdisk -l". It displays only my hardware RAID, but not the new disk. [root@myserver]# fdisk -l Disco /dev/cciss/c0d0: 300.0 GB, 299966445568 bytes Disposit. Is there any way to work with the new disk as another non-RAID single disk? If relevant, I want to create a new partition in my new disk, format it with mkfs and mount it, but as I can't see it with fdisk, I don't know how to do it. Thanks!

  • (Open Source) Cloud-Filesystem to run a Database on Top?

Hello, what are current "technologies and implementations" to get a filesystem with unlimited capacity by using single servers with their harddisk to form a "grid/cloud filesystem"? I need to have unlimited space (by adding further servers) but it must be a filesysem that is capable of running a database on top. I know of Apache Hadoop but that seems not be be Ideal for running a DB on top of it (or am I wrong??) And iSCSI seems to be "remote/networked" but I do not know how and if this is clusterable? thank you very much!! jens

Is it caused by the Java on CentOS 6.4? I have another server running Redhat REHL 6.4 and all works fine - same Java etc. Does anyone know of this problem?

  • dd on entire disk, but do not want empty portion

    - by Jonathan Henson
I have a disk, say /dev/sda. Here is fdisk -l: Disk /dev/sda: 64.0 GB, 64023257088 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 7783 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes Disk identifier: 0x0000e4b5 Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sda1 * 1 27 209920 83 Linux Partition 1 does not end on cylinder boundary. /dev/sda2 27 525 4000768 5 Extended Partition 2 does not end on cylinder boundary. /dev/sda5 27 353 2621440 83 Linux /dev/sda6 353 405 416768 83 Linux /dev/sda7 405 490 675840 83 Linux /dev/sda8 490 525 282624 83 Linux I need to make an image to store on our file server for use in flashing other devices we are manufacturing so I only want the used space (only about 4gb). I want to keep the mbr etc... as this device should be boot ready as soon as the copy is finished. Any ideas? I previously had been using dd if=/dev/sda of=[//fileserver/file], but at that time, my master copy was on a 4gb flash ide.

  • Fixing damaged partition table

    - by dr4cul4
This is continuation of Recover Extended Partition , but this time I have different problem related partition table it self. I managed to restore partition that I needed and backed up files that were crucial to me (at least those that I had space to store somewhere) OK now get to the problem. My partition table is corrupted, booting RIP Linux I can mount it in truecrypt (and other ones that recovered), but that's basically it. When I launch GParted I have unallocated drive. GParted Dev info: Device Information Model: ATA ST2000DL003-9VT1 Size: 1.82TiB Path: /dev/sda Partition table: unrecognized Heads: 255 Sectors/track: 63 Cylinders: 243201 Total Sectors: 3907029168 Sector size: 512 When I check information on unallocated space I get: File system: unallocated Size: 1.82TiB First sector: 0 Last sector: 3907029167 Total sectors: 3907029168 Warning: Can't have a partition outside the disk! • Where and how does Kindle Cloud Reader store downloaded books, on a Windows 7 system?

    - by einpoklum
I use Firefox and sometimes Chrome, on Windows 7. Amazon's in-browser Kindle Cloud Reader lets you "download" books for local/offline viewing. Where are these stored, given my OS+browser combination? I've searched the Users subdirectory for my user, and could not find a relevant (separate) file in there, specifically not in the Firefox and Chrome profile directories. To clarify, the files are obviously not downloaded as-is and are stored in some potentially-obfuscated format, possibly in the browser's local store and possibly elsewhere. The question is, where and how exactly? (This was the first of this question, but wasn't answered there since it was not the main focus of the question.)

  • Assembling Software RAID in Live CD for data recovery

    - by Maletor
    I need help recovering some data that's on my RAID which is on a LVM on my server running Ubuntu. What happened was I deleted the logical volume that controlled my swap space which was on a partition on drives sda2, sdb2, sdc2, and sdd2 in RAID1. This foobared my whole system for one reason or another. Booting leave me with grub rescue and an error saying that it is an unknown filesystem. When I boot to a live cd I can see my RAID arrays and I can even start them up. However, it doesn't appear to mount them anywhere so I can't see the data. I am in the live cd now and I have done sudo apt-get install mdadm lvm2 so it should be mounting them correctly. I just can't see why it wouldn't. Please any help is appreciated here. Here is some output. By the way, there are 3 RAIDs, 1) /boot 100mb RAID1, 2) swap 10gb RAID1, 3) root 990GB RAID5 ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ df -h Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on aufs 124M 101M 18M 86% / none 2.0G 324K 2.0G 1% /dev /dev/sde1 2.0G 826M 1.2G 42% /cdrom /dev/loop0 667M 667M 0 100% /rofs none 2.0G 164K 2.0G 1% /dev/shm tmpfs 2.0G 28K 2.0G 1% /tmp none 2.0G 92K 2.0G 1% /var/run none 2.0G 0 2.0G 0% /var/lock none 2.0G 0 2.0G 0% /lib/init/rw /dev/md1 91M 73M 15M 84% /media/5ac3dbf1-a6c5-409c-96ae-edc6e27992c7 ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ cat /etc/fstab aufs / aufs rw 0 0 tmpfs /tmp tmpfs nosuid,nodev 0 0 /dev/sda2 swap swap defaults 0 0 /dev/sdb2 swap swap defaults 0 0 /dev/sdc2 swap swap defaults 0 0 /dev/sdd2 swap swap defaults 0 0

  • How to delete removed devices from a mdadm RAID1?

    - by Kabuto
I had to replace two hard drives in my RAID1. After adding the two new partitions the old ones are still showing up as removed while the new ones are only added as spare. I've had no luck removing the partitions marked as removed. Here's the RAID in question. Note the two devices (0 and 1) with state removed. $ mdadm --detail /dev/md1 mdadm: metadata format 00.90 unknown, ignored. mdadm: metadata format 00.90 unknown, ignored. /dev/md1: Version : 00.90 Creation Time : Thu May 20 12:32:25 2010 Raid Level : raid1 Array Size : 1454645504 (1387.26 GiB 1489.56 GB) Used Dev Size : 1454645504 (1387.26 GiB 1489.56 GB) Raid Devices : 3 Total Devices : 3 Preferred Minor : 1 Persistence : Superblock is persistent Update Time : Tue Nov 12 21:30:39 2013 State : clean, degraded Active Devices : 1 Working Devices : 3 Failed Devices : 0 Spare Devices : 2 UUID : 10d7d9be:a8a50b8e:788182fa:2238f1e4 Events : 0.8717546 Number Major Minor RaidDevice State 0 0 0 0 removed 1 0 0 1 removed 2 8 34 2 active sync /dev/sdc2 3 8 18 - spare /dev/sdb2 4 8 2 - spare /dev/sda2 How do I get rid of these devices and add the new partitions as active RAID devices? Update I seem to have gotten rid of them. My RAID is resyncing, but the two drives are still marked as spares and are number 3 and 4, which looks wrong. I'll have to wait for the resync to finish. All I did was to fix the metadata error by editing my mdadm.conf and rebooting. I tried rebooting before, but this time it worked for whatever reason. • Need to scale quickly. Which cloud service should I use?

    - by mk1000
Traffic to my facebook app is growing at an insane rate and I need some suggestions on how to scale. I'm probably not going to even be able to keep it running by the day's end, as it's hosted from my already overloaded dedicated server. I need to either move it to its own box or a cloud service like e2c. Something like e2c seems like the way to go, but my server admin skills are terrible. Is there a good front end management UI for e2c or another hosting service that is comparable in cost that is fully managed? I don't mind going with something a bit more expensive now if that means I can get everything switched over and running within 24 hours.

  • Best cloud based IT Systems management services out there?

    - by Ryk
Our startup organisation is growing fast in 2 different office locations. That brings new challenges and headaches. Our entire company is cloud based, and I am looking for a good product to manage our remote systems. Currently we do not have on-site AD servers, we are using the Windows Azure AD services, so cannot rely on group policies at this stage. I would like to be able to achieve the following: (they are all laptops) Remote Desktop Support Patch management Lock down software on machines (restrict them) Monitor and manage systems Other benefits would be good, but if I can achieve the ones listed above, it will go a long way. We have a combination of Windows 7 pro & Windows 8 & 8.1 machines. I am currently using Windows Intune, but it is really limited. Really just a glorified patch enforcer. Thank you in advance to your help.
