• mysqldump trigger crashed tables

  We had a database crash this morning starting at 1 minute past midnight (when the database backup runs). The exception emails I was getting said "Table './core/content' is marked as crashed and should be repaired". My question is basically, can mysqldump cause tables to crash, if so how and why? And are there any tools which can detect a crashed table and run a repair on it? Thanks in advance.

  I have a request for enhancement for Google Chrome, but don't know where to place it. I checked http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/list but it seems to be only for bugs. I use the spelling check quite often, but I need to swap between english and spanish all the time according to the website. Since chrome can detect the webpage language, it would be great to have the spell check set to that language by default.

  In Windows 7, applications should be installed to "Program Files" or "Program Files (x86)" depending on whether they are 64-bit or 32-bit (respectively, as per this page). Is there an easy way to check that all the applications on my system are in the correct Program Files directory? To put it another way, is an easy way to detect any 32-bit applications in "Program Files" and 64-bit applications in "Program Files (x86)"?

• How do you run the previous command in emacs shell?

  I am in terminal mode on Ubuntu, and I'm running emacs with 2 buffers open, one is a ruby file, and the other is a shell (opened by typing M-x shell ), and when I switch to the shell buffer, I want to run the same command that I ran before. I would normally just hit the up arrow in a terminal window, but in emacs, it simply puts the cursor up one line. Does anyone know of keystroke to run the previous shell command from within an emacs shell?

• Can you disable the Ctrl-S (XOFF) keystroke in Putty?

  I do a lot of ssh-ing, and periodically I hit Ctrl+S, which naturally sends an XOFF, and causes all kinds of problems (not to mention it takes a while for me to figure out what happened, then another while to remember that I need to press Ctrl+Q to recover. I would much rather instruct Putty to never ever let me type XOFF. Any ideas?

  Hello, I had a system running Win 7 Home premium and ubuntu 10.04, side by side dual boot.I got an ubuntu 10.10 image disk so I decided to update.But during the installation I think I made a mistake by specifying the whole partition, and after installation of ubuntu 10.10 I saw that my windows and all the other data was gone.there was around 250GB of it.Is there any way I can recover this data??I had a lot of irreplacable photos and collections on the drive.I do have a recovery cd for my windows, but it does not detect any windows os.thanku very much. • Issues in Fedora detecting on board NIC card

  Basically I have two NIC cards (on-board + Added in PCI slot) on my Linux machine running Fedora 12.By default the OS detects the NIC card in the PCI slot but it fails to detect the on board network card.Following are few details of the same Linux Vivek 2.6.32.26-175.fc12.i686.PAE #1 SMP Wed Dec 1 21:45:50 UTC 2010 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux ifconfig -a doesen't show the on board NIC card.Any thoughts for it please? • Disabling VLC's crash message

  I have a Mac Mini running videos on loop to display publicly, which occasionally crashes I think generally when other OSX functions kicking in. I have a script to detect when VLC is not running and reboot it, but there is often a system message on top "VLC crashed previously". Is there a way to disable this (I can find no option in VLC's advanced options), or perhaps to feed a 'Continue' response to it via Applescript?

(I realized that I prefer to run with about 168 bpm in my ears).   My proxy server runs on ip A and this is how people access my web service. The nginx configuration will redirect to a virtual machine on ip B. Everything that hits the public IP will hit 443 because of the rewrite. Internally, we are forwarding to 80 on the virtual machine. But when I run a python script such as the one below to test our configuration import requests data = {'username': '....', 'password': '.....'} url = 'http://IP_A/api/service/signup' res = requests.post(url, data=data, verify=False) print res print res.json print res.status_code print res.headers I am getting a 405 Method Not Allowed. In nginx we found that when it hit the internal server, the internal nginx was getting a GET request, even though in the original header we did a POST (this was shown in the Python script). So it seems like rewrite has problem. Any idea how to fix this? When I commented out the rewrite, it hits 80 for sure, and it went through. Since rewrite was able to talk to our internal server, so rewrite itself has no issue. It's just the rewrite dropped POST to GET. Thank you! (This will also be asked on Nginx forum because this is a critical blocker...)

• safely remove webserver from nginx backent pool?

  We have 4 webservers behind nginx being hit with 262 events/second. I would like to tell nginx to stop sending requests to that server. If I remove the server from the file and reload the file, aren't all requests in process dropped on the floor then as nginx no longer knows that server. What can I add to the config so it slowly drops that server out of the pool and I can wait for current requests to complete.

  Is it possible to let the Chrome browser prefer all DNS resolvable URLs over a search? Everytime I use a local name not matching a usual domain scheme, I got search results for it. I first thought that no nonsense DNS lookup is made if the URL seems to be a search keyword, however Chrome always detect this condition and asks me if I like to go to my domain instead. So the DNS lookup is made anyway.

  my machine is a Dell Studio XPS 9100 with 8GB of RAM installed. When I open the BIOS setup and enter the System Info, it shows that my machine got 8GB of RAM installed but only 6GB is available (yes this is from the BIOS only). In Windows 7 (64bit Pro) it shows only 6GB of RAM are available. But if I run CPU-Z then it can detect all 8GB RAM. The machine came pre-configured and I have never opened the case before.

• After my laptop wakes up from sleeping/hibernating, the LCD/brightness is very low. How can I set it to default?

  In Power Management Preferences, On AC Power tab, I have brightness to 100%. "Dim display when idle" is not checked. I know for sure my LCD brightness is capable of going higher, because if I hit Fn and F7 then it resets the monitor brightness and settings for a few seconds, but the resolution breaks and then the brightness goes back. PS: OS is Debian Lenny ( I set the tags but for clarification ) and laptop is a Thinkpad.

• Thunderbird doesn't raise or give focus when you click "Write" or "Reply".

  I'm using Thunderbird 2.0.22, the version that comes with Ubuntu Intrepid 8.10. When I hit "Reply" or "Write", a new email window pops up, but it ends up being under the main Thunderbird Window, and doesn't have focus. Thunderbird is the only application that exhibits this weird behaviour, and it just started happening one day, whereas it worked fine before. I've seen this problem years ago as well, and wasn't sure how I fixed it.

• How to stretch the image from one screen to two screens

  I want to be able to stretch the image from one monitor to a second monitor even if i have to use some software to do it. For example i want the top half of the image that is now shown on my first monitor to occupy the whole second monitor and i want the bottom half to occupy the whole first monitor, or the other way around i don't really care as long as it works. I would be cool to know how to do the same stuff but to the left half and right half. I know that image pixels would have twice the lenght or height this way but i don't really care about it as long as it works so basically i want the stuff to show on both monitors but with the same pixels as before. I have a hd4870 and windows7 and hd4000 family doesnt support having two monitors behaving like a large one, only hd5000 upwards, this would solve my problems without any of the drawbacks but it just can't be done (or maybe it can via software but i'm just too tired of searching). A solution to make almost any graphic card have two monitors behaving like a large one is matrox dualhead2go but that's just as expensive as a good hd5000 card so it's not worth it. thanks in advance EDIT I guess that nobody so far was able to fully comprehend my problem that was very explicitly written but i will elaborate some more. My hd4870 can have 2 monitors working with it but some stuff like games won't run on both monitors, which sucks. There are some ways to circumvent this problem and two of them are perfect or almost perfect but expensive and the third would be a software solution that would make it possible. The first one is to have and hd5000 family video card which will work just fine with both monitors. The second is to have a matrox dualhead2go that will make my hd4870 detect my two monitors as a large monitor. The third is to have a software that makes my two displays be detected as a large display and then captures the output of the video card, splits the images and renders them as 2d images to both monitors OR a simpler one but that would make outputted pixels double the width or height would be to capture the output of the graphics card to one screen, split it in two and enlarge it to fit both monitors and then output it to the monitors. p.s. By capturing the output of the video card i mean just make the video card process the stuff in a certain way. Making the video card detect two monitors as a large one via software may be a bit impossible or impracticable but stretching the output as a 2d image from one to both monitors for some coders should be a walk in the park so it would be likely that such program would exist or that some widespread softwares for dual monitor would have such function in them.

Can you tell from this message is it a hardware or software issue?

• Windows 8 on HP Laptop crashes when waking up from sleep

  I always put it to sleep at night, but when I try and turn it on I hit the keyboard to activate it and a Windows screen pops up saying and error has occured. It collects data then reboots and offers to send an error report. Note this only appears to happen when I'm at home and it's hooked up to 2 monitors and 3-4 USB devices. I think I was in the middle of typing the word "for" but whatever button I hit seemed to be the confirmation to shutdown the computer. • Format Change Event for Excel VBA

  I'm trying to prevent people from modifying (most) of my spreadsheet while still alowing them to use the sort function of the AutoFilter. What I've done so far is used the Worksheet_Change event and Application.Undo to automatically undo any values entered into cells that I don't want to be modified. This works great, except that it can't detect changes in formatting. Does anyone know of a means to trigger an event when the format (text/background color) of a cell is changed? Thanks!
