  • How to boot Linux and Windows - Windows as Default OS

    I have a dual boot system that works great. I have Ubuntu and XP 64 on one disk and XP on another disk. The Linux boot loader asks me which system to boot, but if I reboot and forget to hit a button, it goes to Linux by default. I would like to boot to XP by default, but somehow retain the option of choosing.

  • Pinning based on origin of a reprepro repository.

    I'm on Ubuntu 10.04, and trying to set up a repository using reprepro. I'd also like the pin everything in that repository to be preferred over anything else, even if packages are older versions. (It will only contain a select set of packages.) However, I cannot seem to get the pinning to work, and believe it has something to do with the repository side of things, rather than the apt configuration on the client. I've taken the following steps to set up my repository Installed a web server (my personal choice here is Cherokee), Created the directory /var/www/apt/, Created the file conf/distributions, like so: Origin: Shteef Label: Shteef Suite: lucid Version: 10.04 Codename: lucid Architectures: i386 amd64 source Components: main Description: My personal repository Ran reprepro export from the /var/www/apt/ directory.     I am interested in a utility or process for monitoring disk IO per file on CentOS. On Win2008, the resmon utility allows this type of drilldown, but none of the Linux utilities I have found do this (iostat, iotop, dstat, nmon). My interest in monitoring IO bottlenecks on database servers. With MSSQL, I have found it an informative diagnostic to know which files / filespaces are getting hit the hardest.

  • How do I add a version number field to an office 2007 docx document?

    I've been having a crack at using fields in Word 2007 and have hit a slight stumbling block. I want to add a field which I can use in several parts of the document to represent the current version (something of the form v0.1 but I can't see an obvious way to do it). The only provision I've found for this is something called RevNum but that gets updated every time I save the document. Is there a field I've missed or a way of adding custom fields or something?

  • Thunderbird 3 "Reply to all", also replies to myself

    I have my job IMAP account set up in TB 3.0.3. It's becoming very annoying that in group emails where I'm in the CC or TO list I hit "Reply To All" and I find myself in the recipients list. So when I send the email I also get a copy of my own email. I haven't found where to disable or modify this. This doesn't happen with my Gmail account (also set up in TB)

  • Remotely from Chrome or IE page loads ~60seconds, from Firefox or IE on local machine - instantly.

    The problem: If i access SharePoint from Windows 7 with IE8 or Chrome5 - I must wait for like a minute to get a response. If i use other Windows 7 with IE8, just the same - just wait a MINUTE. If i use Firefox3.6 on W7 machine - page opens up instantly. Now switch to IE rendering engine in Firefox, you will have to wait just as with IE. Now i tried IE8 on XP SP3 - page opens up instantly. I tried IE8 on Windows Server 2003 SP2 (machine on which SharePoint is hosted) - page opens up instantly.   • On Linux, why does directory tab completion add a \ to a path starting with ~

    On my work scientific linux 6.2 machine, I often start typing in a directory like below and use tab completion to finish it: ~/mydir But when I hit tab, it becomes e.g. \~/mydirectory/ With an extra forward slash at the start. Why is this, and can I prevent it? It's a pain because using cd etc. doesn't work with the extra slash, I have to start from the actual home directory which is something like /home/username/ On these PCs.

  • Connect Ubuntu 11.04 to xbox 360

    I'd like to be able to stream .avi files to my xbox 360 video library. I've gone through a bunch of different servers (ushare, xbmc) both from the aptitude and from source. It seems that I can get the servers working from both localhost and from another computer on the network. However, the xbox cannot detect any of these. Can anybody give me a hand or perhaps post a detailed walkthrough to give me a hand? Thanks!

    I have an application (.exe) which I am running via a scheduled task on Windows Server 2008 R2. The task runs fine but when the .exe returns a non-zero exit code the task is still successful when it should fail. I get this message: Task Scheduler successfully completed task "\CustomerDataSourceETL - Whics" , instance "{a574f6b4-2614-413c-8661-bc35eaeba7cd}" , action "E:\applications\CCDB-ETL\CustomerDataSourceETLConsole.exe" with return code 214794259. How can I get task scheduler to detect that the return code is 0 and fail the task?

  • APC File Cache not working but user cache is fine

    I have just got a VPS (with cPanel/WHM) to test what gains i could get in my application with using apc file cache AND user cache. So firstly I got the PHP 5.3 compiled in as a DSO (apache module). Then installed APC via PECL through SSH. (First I tried with WHM Module installer, it also had the same problem, so I tried it via ssh) All seemed fine and phpinfo showed apc loaded and enabled. Then I checked with apc.php. All seemed OK But as I started testing my php application, the stats in apc for File Cache Information state: Cached Files 0 ( 0.0 Bytes) Hits 1 Misses 0 Request Rate (hits, misses) 0.00 cache requests/second Hit Rate 0.00 cache requests/second Miss Rate 0.00 cache requests/second Insert Rate 0.00 cache requests/second Cache full count 0 Which meant no PHP files were being cached, even though I had browsed through over 10 PHP files having multiple includes. So there must have been some Cached Files. But the user cache is functioning fine. User Cache Information Cached Variables 0 ( 0.0 Bytes) Hits 1000 Misses 1000 Request Rate (hits, misses) 0.84 cache requests/second Hit Rate 0.42 cache requests/second Miss Rate 0.42 cache requests/second Insert Rate 0.84 cache requests/second Cache full count 0 Its actually from an APC caching test script which tries to retrieve and store 1000 entries and gives me the times. A sort of simple benchmark. Can anyone help me here. Even though apc.cache_by_default = 1, no php files are being cached. Update: I have tried following things and none cause APC file cache to populate 1. set apc.enable_cli = 1 AND run a script from cli 2. Set apc.max_file_size = 5M (just in case) 3. switched php handler from dso to FastCGI in WHM (then switched it back to dso as it did not solve the problem) 4. Even tried restarting the container

I only have Bluetooth to connect so float mobile agent fails to detect my driver as it's not a native windows driver. My phone explorer fails to access all of my 3000+ saved messages.

    Hi there, We run a cluster of openvz servers and are looking for a way to automatically graph the content of user_beancounters for all ves. We currently have a fairly rudimentary cron which alerts us when limits are hit but we could like a graphing solution to show us history. Obviously we could roll our own using some fancy bash/php/perl and rrdtool but we're wondering if there are any existing solutions before we go down this path. We current run a cacti/snmp based graphing infrastructure.

  • Windows 7, weird/annoying explorer problem

    First of all, I'm asking the moderators if you could summarize my problem in the Title and modify it according to that. Thanks in advance and sorry, my english is not that good. The problem. It happened on two of my machines already. Once it happens there are many problems with explorer. I'll try to describe at precisely I just can. So. Basically when you create a new folder, you have to hit the enter key TWICE because first it'll throw an error that "there is no such file..". Okay. Then if you try to delete some, this happens also. Renaming is the same. Here is an example. I tried adding a "2" to the end of the folder name, hit enter and got this. Here I can press cancel, nothing happens. If I press retry, the popup disappears and it'll finally change the folder name. I can't come up with anything for this. Using BitDefender (registered, full protection), Windows 7 x86 Ultimate retail (boxed, english version). The other PC had the same anti-virus protection , but it have a Windows 7 x64. Both systems are activated, updated totally. I don't remember installing any new stuff on the PCs. All the stuff on the PCs are legal, no cracked / any other software present. It just happened, so to say. Already reinstalled the other PC because I thought * I * messed up something and its just something FUBAR. However, I dont want to reinstall my laptop also. Any ideas are welcome. (Today I had a strange bug. Windows Explorer had 1.0+gb memory usage with 100% cpu. Killed it, launched a new explorer.exe and thats all. Nothing changed, but it may worth a try. The other PC did NOT have this problem, ever.) Isn't there a registry fix for this or something? :/

We have defined a list of URLs that are causing problems, and am hoping for munin to find out from the apache logs when those urls are being hit. Does anyone know how to set this up? Thanks! :)
