• Sysdeo Tomcat DevLoader - Hot deploy of java class causes whole application to restart

  Hi, I am using sysdeo tomcat plugin 3.2.1 with eclipse 3.5.1 (Galileo) and tomcat 5.5.23 on windows XP. I can get tomcat plugin working in eclipse, and have extracted devloader.zip into [tomcat]\server\classes. I have also updated the context and now it has this entry: <Context path="/myapp1" reloadable="true" docBase="F:\Work\eclipse_workspace\myapp1" workDir="F:\Work\eclipse_workspace\myapp1\work" > <Logger className="org.apache.catalina.logger.SystemOutLogger" verbosity="4" timestamp="true"/> <Loader className="org.apache.catalina.loader.DevLoader" reloadable="true" debug="1" useSystemClassLoaderAsParent="false" /> </Context> I have activated devloader (in Project Properties Tomcat Devloader Classpath) and have 'checked' all my classes and jars, I haven't 'checked' commons-loggin.jar jsp-api.jar, servlet-api.jar. So on launching tomcat via the plugin, I can get it running with devloader as shown in eclipse console view [DevLoader] Starting DevLoader [DevLoader] projectdir=F:\Work\eclipse_workspace\myapp1 [DevLoader] added file:/F:/Work/eclipse_workspace/myapp1/WEB-INF/classes/ [DevLoader] added file:/F:/Work/eclipse_workspace/myapp1/WEB-INF/lib/activation.jar However, if I even add a single System.out.println into any java file and save it, the whole application gets reloaded (takes ~80 sec) which is as good as stopping/starting tomcat itself. I've tried adding -Xdebug in JAVA_OPTS in the catalina.bat but no luck :( Can you please guide where I may be doing it wrong.. Please note that I can 'redeploy' the whole application on tomcat but that's not what I need, I am looking to be able to make small changes in java classes 'on-the-fly' while coding/debugging without having to wait for complete app restart. Another annoyance is that restarting tomcat/application causes the session/debug progress to be lost.. Can you please guide me how to go about it. PS: I am not using any ant/maven scripts explicitly, just relying on eclipse to do the build for me (which it does).

• active_admin/formtastic ignoring polymorphic associations

  I'm currently having trouble with the form for a polymorphic association in active_admin in Ruby on Rails. I have three models set up: offices, companies and users. Both companies and users can own an office. My models are set up as follows: class Office < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :ownable, :polymorphic => true end class User < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :offices, :as => :ownable end class Company < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :offices, :as => :ownable end active_admin doesn't allow me to edit the owner on its forms, but does show it correctly on the index and show pages (including links to the company or user). I've tried playing with formtastic to manually create the form but have not had any luck - the "ownable" fields just get ignored and everything else renders properly. To be clear: I want to be able to edit the owner of the Office model on the new and edit fields in active_admin. Can anyone offer any help? :)

• AST with fixed nodes instead of error nodes in antlr

  I have an antlr generated Java parser that uses the C target and it works quite well. The problem is I also want it to parse erroneous code and produce a meaningful AST. If I feed it a minimal Java class with one import after which a semicolon is missing it produces two "Tree Error Node" objects where the "import" token and the tokens for the imported class should be. But since it parses the following code correctly and produces the correct nodes for this code it must recover from the error by adding the semicolon or by resyncing. Is there a way to make antlr reflect this fixed input it produces internally in the AST? Or can I at least get the tokens/text that produced the "Tree Node Errors" somehow? • Infopath - Repeating sections

  I have struggled with this for 2 days and posted this question at a couple of other sites but with no luck. I am creating a form as follows. I have an "outer" repeating section in which the user enters a work item id and then selects as many names as he/she wishes from a series of drop down lists. When the user clicks a button (also in this "outer" repeating section), Feedback textboxes are added for each name selected, as well as text boxes with the names selected from the drop down appear above the those provided for feedback. I used the XPathNavigator.Clone() method to create the new feedback textboxes and textboxes that display the user's name that was selected. (The username textbox appears above the respective feedback textbox). This did the trick, but there is a problem. The user should be able to click "Insert item" on the outer repeating section to add another work item wherein he/she may again select as many names as they wish from the series of drop downs, click a button, and have feedback and user name text boxes appear for each name selected from the drop down box associated with the current work item, (i.e, "outer" repeating section). I clicked Insert Item on the "outer" repeating section and selected 2 names from the second series of drop downs, but when I try to clone a node, it is added at the end of the previous repeating section. I don't know how to navigate into (for lack of a better term) subsequent repeating sections. I am using InfoPath 2007 and I am aware that the current() method call is implicit, but this still doesn't work. I'm thinking I need to set up a Rule somewhere, but I am not sure how to do that. Any help would be appreciated.

• There's a black hole in my server (TcpClient, TcpListener)

  Hi, I'm trying to build a server that will receive files sent by clients over a network. If the client decides to send one file at a time, there's no problem, I get the file as I expected, but if it tries to send more than one I only get the first one. • Average of two strings in alphabetical order

  Suppose you take the strings 'a' and 'z' and list all the strings that come between them in alphabetical order: ['a','b','c' ... 'x','y','z']. Take the midpoint of this list and you find 'm'. So this is kind of like taking an average of those two strings. You could extend it to strings with more than one character, for example the midpoint between 'aa' and 'zz' would be found in the middle of the list ['aa', 'ab', 'ac' ... 'zx', 'zy', 'zz']. Might there be a Python method somewhere that does this? If not, even knowing the name of the algorithm would help. I began making my own routine that simply goes through both strings and finds midpoint of the first differing letter, which seemed to work great in that 'aa' and 'az' midpoint was 'am', but then it fails on 'cat', 'doggie' midpoint which it thinks is 'c'. Rather than invent a method I thought it better to ask. I tried Googling for "binary search string midpoint" etc. but without knowing the name of what I am trying to do here I had little luck.

• Can I use RegFree Com with an application written in Excel VBA?

  I have an application that is written in Excel VBA, myApp.xls. Currently we use InstallShield to distribute the application. Since we are moving to Windows Vista, I need to be able to install the application as a standard user. This does not allow for me to update the registry during the install process. In addition to the excel application we also have several VB6 applications. In order to install those applications, I was able to use RegFree com and Make My Manifest (MMM) as suggested by people on this forum (I greatly appreciate the insight btw!). This process, although a bit tedious, worked well. I then packaged the output from MMM in a VS '05 installer project and removed the UAC prompt on the msi using msiinfo.exe. Now I am faced with installing an application that basically lives in an Excel file. I modified a manifest that MMM created for me for one of my VB6 apps and tried to run the excel file through that, but I did not have much luck. Does anybody know of a way to do this? Does RegFree com work with VBA? Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks, Steve

• Where is my Drupal View pager?

  Hi, I have a Drupal 6 site where I've created a view that shows a list of nodes. Nothing complicated -- except that when I choose "use pager" -- "yes" (and choose the "full pager" option), the pager doesn't show up on the page. The first page of nodes shows up, but there's no way to get to other pages. Through googling, I saw that some people had an issue with the "Pager Element" item, so I changed that from 0 to 1 -- no luck. This shouldn't be very complicated, but I've been at it for a while! Help!? ETA: I've tracked it down to the following lines in /modules/views/theme/theme.inc: $pager_theme = views_theme_functions($pager_type, $view, $view->display_handler->display); $vars['pager'] = theme($pager_theme, $exposed_input, $view->pager['items_per_page'], $view->pager['element']); The first line returns an array; the second line returns nothing. I suspect now that this is a theming problem with the custom theme I'm using that may not have fully been correctly updated for Drupal 6 -- like, maybe I'm missing a pager template somehow? -- however, I'm quite new to Drupal and don't really understand how to further track down and fix the issue. Any advice would be much appreciated! ETA yet again: The pager also doesn't show up when using Garland, so it's not a theme issue after all. ALSO: I have a copy of this site set up on a development server as well, and that copy has working pagination! I've checked what I thought might be different -- files in the theme, what modules are enabled -- and it seems like pretty much everything is the same. The one thing that I know is different, however, is that the production server has a lower version of MySQL (lower than recommended for Drupal 6 -- we're waiting on the hosting company being able to change this later). Would it make sense that the old version of MySQL is unable to do pagination correctly in Drupal 6? If so, does anyone know a workaround I can do until we are able to update MySQL?

• UpdatePanel not refreshing in Accordion

  Hi, I'm using MS AJAX's accordion control. It works fine normally, but I can't seem to get it to work with an UpdatePanel. • FluentNHibernate SQLite configuration exception - after switching to .net4

  I get an exception thrown when trying to use Fluent to configure my NHibernate connection to SQLite. The code I use to configure is as follows: var cfg = Fluently.Configure(). Database(SQLiteConfiguration.Standard.ShowSql().UsingFile("MyDb.db")). Mappings(m => m.FluentMappings.AddFromAssemblyOf<MappingsPersistenceModel>()); _sessionFactory = cfg.BuildSessionFactory(); A HibernateException is thrown when BuildSessionFactory() is called, saying: Could not create the driver from NHibernate.Driver.SQLite20Driver, NHibernate, Version=2.1.2.4000, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=aa95f207798dfdb4. It has an InnerException: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. Which again has an InnerException: The IDbCommand and IDbConnection implementation in the assembly System.Data.SQLite could not be found. Ensure that the assembly System.Data.SQLite is located in the application directory or in the Global Assembly Cache. If the assembly is in the GAC, use element in the application configuration file to specify the full name of the assembly. Now - to me it sounds like it doesn't find System.Data.SQLite.dll, but I can't understand this. Everywhere this is referenced I have "Copy Local", and I have verified that it is in every build folder for projects using SQLite. I have also copied it manually to every Debug folder of the solution - without luck. What can be causing this? Any ideas? My suspicion is that it is related to .Net4 somehow. The reason is that it worked just fine when I used .Net3.5, and then I changed to .Net4, and the problem started. • WPF - expander Collapsed event being triggered by child controls with validation

  I have an expander that contains an ItemsControl. The items in the itemsControl are templated, some have textboxes in them, others have checkboxes. Both have bindings that cause validation. The styling and validation is working as expected. The problem is when I first expand the expander and cause a change to either control, the expander collapses again, this is not what I want. If I repeat this a second time this does not happen. I'm not sure what is triggering this strange behaviour. I've tried setting the focus to the itemsControl when the expander expands with no luck. What is differnt the second time it's expanded? Could it be the validation? Any Ideas? • Python: Class factory using user input as class names

  Hi everyone, I want to add class atttributes to a superclass dynamically. Furthermore, I want to create classes that inherit from this superclass dynamically, and the name of those subclasses should depend on user input. There is a superclass "Unit", to which I can add attributes at runtime. This already works. def add_attr (cls, name, value): setattr(cls, name, value) class Unit(object): pass class Archer(Unit): pass myArcher = Archer() add_attr(Unit, 'strength', 5) print "Strenght ofmyarcher: " + str(myArcher.strength) Archer.strength = 2 print "Strenght ofmyarcher: " + str(myArcher.strength) This leads to the desired output: Strenght ofmyarcher: 5 Strenght ofmyarcher: 2 But now I don't want to predefine the subclass Archer, but I'd rather let the user decide how to call this subclass. I've tried something like this: class Meta(type, subclassname): def __new__(cls, subclassname, bases, dct): return type.__new__(cls, subclassname, Unit, dct) factory = Meta() factory.__new__("Soldier") but no luck. I guess I haven't really understood what new does here. What I want as a result here is class Soldier(Unit): pass being created by the factory. • How to create a rails habtm that deletes/destroys without error?

  I created a simple example as a sanity check and still can not seem to destroy an item on either side of a has_and_belongs_to_many relationship in rails. Whenever I try to delete an object from either table, I get the dreaded NameError / "uninitialized constant" error message. To demonstrate, I created a sample rails app with a Boy class and Dog class. I used the basic scaffold for each and created a linking table called boys_dogs. I then added a simple before_save routine to create a new 'dog' any time a boy was created and establish a relationship, just to get things setup easily. dog.rb class Dog < ActiveRecord::Base has_and_belongs_to_many :Boys end boy.rb class Boy < ActiveRecord::Base has_and_belongs_to_many :Dogs def before_save self.Dogs.build( :name => "Rover" ) end end schema.rb ActiveRecord::Schema.define(:version => 20100118034401) do create_table "boys", :force => true do |t| t.string "name" t.datetime "created_at" t.datetime "updated_at" end create_table "boys_dogs", :id => false, :force => true do |t| t.integer "boy_id" t.integer "dog_id" t.datetime "created_at" t.datetime "updated_at" end create_table "dogs", :force => true do |t| t.string "name" t.datetime "created_at" t.datetime "updated_at" end end I've seen lots of posts here and elsewhere about similar problems, but the solutions are normally using belongs_to and the plural/singular class names being confused. I don't think that is the case here, but I tried switching the habtm statement to use the singular name just to see if it helped (with no luck). I seem to be missing something simple here. • PHP/SQL/Wordpress: Group a user list by alphabet

  I want to create a (fairly big) Wordpress user index with the users categorized alphabetically, like this: A Amy Adam B Bernard Bianca and so on. I've created a custom Wordpress query which works fine for this, except for one problem: It also displays "empty" letters, letters where there aren't any users whose name begins with that letter. I'd be glad if you could help me fix this code so that it only displays the letter if there's actually a user with a name of that letter :) I've tried my luck by checking how many results there are for that letter, but somehow that's not working. • Getting message in android app: Binary XML file line #2: You must supply a layout_width attribute.

  I'm trying to use a ListView inside of a RelativeLayout but when I run my app I get a runtimeexception with the message: Binary XML file line #2: You must supply a layout_width attribute. I tried putting layout_width attributes in every conceivable place in the xml resource files but so far no luck. • Newbie database index question

  I have a table with multiple indexes, several of which duplicate the same columns: Index 1 columns: X, B, C, D Index 2 columns: Y, B, C, D Index 3 columns: Z, B, C, D I'm not very knowledgeable on indexing in practice, so I'm wondering if somebody can explain why X, Y and Z were paired with these same columns. B is an effective date. C is a semi-unique key ID for this table for a specific effective date B. D is a sequence that identifies the priority of this record for the identifier C. Why not just create 6 indexes, one for each X, Y, Z, B, C, D? I want to add an index to another column T, but in some contexts I'll only be querying on T alone while in others I will also be specifying the B, C and D columns... so should I create just one index like above or should I create one for T and one for (T, B, C, D)? I've not had as much luck as expected when googling for comprehensive coverage of indexing. Any resources where I can get a through explanation and lots of examples of B-tree indexing?

• Turning off hibernate logging console output

  I'm using hibernate 3 and want to stop it from dumping all the startup messages to the console. I tried commenting out the stdout lines in log4j.properties but no luck. I've pasted my log file below.   I'm trying to add a tableview to a view in code instead of using Interface Builder and unfortunately it's causing some problems =( Here's an example of how I'm doing it now. NSScrollView *scrollView = [[NSScrollView alloc] initWithFrame:someRect]; NSTableView *tableView = [[NSTableView alloc] initWithFrame: scrollView.bounds]; resultsTableView.dataSource = self; resultsScrollView.documentView = resultsTableView; [someView addSubview: scrollView]; So basically I'm just putting the tableView inside the scrollView (because that's what IB is doing) and then adding the latter as a subview of the someView. The result is that a tableView appears - but the no data is shown within the tableView. Debugging shows that the dataSource is being asked for how many rows are in the tableView but the method: tableView:objectValueForTableColumn:row: is never being called. I suspect that this is because of my way of creating the tableView. I've tried google but no luck and the "Introduction to Table Views Programming Guide" on macdevcenter wasn't helpful either.   Would you guys show me a way to simulating concurrent access to memcache on Google App Engine? I'm trying with LocalServiceTestHelpers and threads but don't have any luck. Every time I try to access Memcache within a thread, then I get this error: ApiProxy$CallNotFoundException: The API package 'memcache' or call 'Increment()' was not found I guess that the testing library of GAE SDK tried to mimic the real environment and thus setup the environment for only one thread (the thread that running the test) which cannot be seen by other thread. • Creating cookieless application on development machine with asp.net

  I tried posting this on ServerFault with no luck so i am trying here. I am thinking about setting up a new domain to host static content on my website and have it cookieless just like Stackoverflow with their static domain. So before going ahead and buying the domain and setting it up I wanted to test it on my developement machine first under localhost (I have to mention that i am planning on having IIS running on my new domain for the static files). I therefore created a new application under IIS and disabled session state and forms authentication. When my main application needs resources like css, images and js , I use the path to the "static" application where they are hosted. The problem is that when I look at the request and the response for the requested files, they still have the session_id cookie defined as well as the asp.net authentication cookie. Is it at all possible to accomplish what i am trying to do on a development machine or do i have to just go ahead and purchase the new domain which hopefully with make things right? I tried to read about cookieless domain but can't figure out what i might be missing.

  I have a WCF service which can run as Console App and a Windows Service. I have exactly the same code, but running in a windows service and I get the following error when I try to call any of the methods from a client: System.ServiceModel.Security.MessageSecurityException was unhandled Message="An unsecured or incorrectly secured fault was received from the other party. See the inner FaultException for the fault code and detail." Source="mscorlib" StackTrace: Server stack trace: at System.ServiceModel.Channels.SecurityChannelFactory`1.SecurityRequestChannel.ProcessReply(Message reply, SecurityProtocolCorrelationState correlationState, TimeSpan timeout) ...... (lots of stacktrace info - not very useful) InnerException: System.ServiceModel.FaultException Message="An error occurred when verifying security for the message." The exception tells me nothing. I'm assuming that it has something to do with acces to system resources from the Windows Service. I've tried running it under the same account as the console app, but no luck. Does anyone have any ideas?

• Why Is Bottom Half of Custom UIActionSheet with UIDatePicker Disabled?

  Everything seems to be working great with my UIActionSheet that contains a UIDatePicker except that the bottom half of the DatePicker is disabled. Visually there is a shadow that makes the bottom half of the picker darker than the top half. Everything in the bottom half is disabled and I can't for the life of me figure out how to enable it. I also noticed in my other "normal" UIActionSheets that just contain buttons, the bottom half of the cancel buttons are disabled. The error message doesn't include any information about what directory it's in or anything. It's kind of infuriating! Is it possible to make the output of javaw more verbose? Is it possible to get around this class-path size bug?

• How can I get jQuery validation plugin Ketchup to stop an Ajax form submission when validation fails?

  I'm using Ruby on Rails, Formtastic gem, jQuery and ketchup to validate my form. I'm submitting the form created by Formtastic inside a modal box using ajax: <% semantic_form_remote_for @contact_form, :url => '/request/contact' do |f| %> I have a validation plugin verifying the fields on the form: $(document).ready(function() { $("#new_contact_form").ketchup(); }); The problem is that semantic_form_remote_for generates an onSubmit ajax request that the jQuery validation plugins won't prevent, since it's not a normal form submission. One question on stackoverflow suggests using :condition on the remote form declaration to fire a javascript function, but I can't do that since I'm not using a function, but rather relying on a jQuery handler. I also tried putting ketchup within a submit event handler: $(document).ready(function() { $("#new_contact_form").submit(function() { $('#new_contact_form').ketchup(); }); }); No luck. Form still submits. I also tried using the beforeSend option of jQuery.ajax: $(document).ready(function() { jQuery.ajax( { beforeSend: function(){ $('#new_contact_form').ketchup(); } }); }); Validation fires off, but form is still submitted. I switched to jQuery Validation plugin just to see if it was due to some limitation in Ketchup. It turns out that Validation has a submitHandler option: $(document).ready(function() { $('#new_contact_form').validate({ submitHandler: function(form) { jQuery.ajax({ data:jQuery.param(jQuery('#new_contact_form').serializeArray()), dataType:'script', type:'post', url:'/request/contact' }); return false; } }); }); This works when I use a regular semantic_form_for instead of semantic_form_remote_for, but alas, I would rather use Ketchup. Is Ketchup just woefully lacking? Am I forced to use jQuery Validation?
