    Hy, I have a layout in the views/layout that has 2 cols and then in every view i have content_for :main_col and content_for :side_col. The problem is that i have more than 5 views with the same content in the content_for :side_col You have a better idea on how to do this?thanks

    Hey i got an White Macbook and, has to go in 10 hours to a conference. And I'm having a lot of problems. First, I wanted to have Rails 3, so I used MacPorts to install Ruby 1.8.7. Tt worked well ;) So now I was thinking I should install Rails 3.. but no, no!.. it says.. $ sudo gem install rails --pre ERROR:   Error installing rails:                  activesupport requires Ruby version = 1.8.7. So what can I do? I have 1.8.7 !

  • Rails: simple bundler question with ruby-openid

    Hi! I just installed the ruby-openid gem and then bundled it by entering gem 'ruby-openid', :require => 'openid' in the gemfile. Then I started bundle install and bundle lock. Everything worked fine so far. But how can I now access the classes of ruby-openid. OpenID::method won't work for me. It raises a not found error. What have I forgot or done wrong? I'm absolutely new to bundler and the internet full of solutions for various versions, but I need one solution that's surely working. I'm thankful for any help!

    I'm using the following config: ActionMailer::Base.smtp_settings = { :address => "smtp.gmail.com", :port => 587, :authentication => :plain, :enable_starttls_auto => true, :user_name => "[email protected]", :password => "sap" } When I send the mail, log shows mail is sent. I can see the mail in logger. But, mail is not delivered to recipient email.

MyModel.update_all("reserved = 1", :limit => 1000) ActiveRecord thinks limit is a column, says it's unknown and throws an exception. According to the documentation though, my syntax looks sane. This is RoR 2.3.5. When doing MyModel.update_all("reserved = 1") alone, it works just fine.

  • Ruby on Rails Invalid Authenticity Token when using IE

    Hi, well for some strange reason IE gives me and InvalidAuthenticityToken error almost every time a POST query is used. Seems to be that IE does not like the "/" and "=" characters sometimes found in authenticity_token. So I wondered if anyone has actually found a solution to this? More strange is that no other browser seems to behave that way. Thanks in advance.

    I am getting an error that I cannot figure out: ActionView::MissingTemplate (Missing template cluster/delete_stuff.erb in view path app/views) <...snip trace...> Rendering rescues/layout (internal_server_error) I am "enhancing" others code and am following the convention they set up, where they have have code like: <%= render :partial => "other_stuff" %> And a file named _other_stuff.html.erb and it all works, but when I copy these little snippets, I get the above error. Any ideas? Something is going on here that I need to figure out.

  • Rails 3, changing a specific value in a row

    Hey Guys, This question seems ridiculously easy, but I seem to be stuck. Lets say we have a table "Books" Each Book, has a name, description, and a status. Lets say I want to create link in the show view, that when clicked, solely changes the status (to "read") for example. So far, I've tried adding a block in the controller, that says: def read @book = Book.find(params[:id]) @book.status = "Read" @book.update_attributes(params[:book]) respond_to do |format| format.html { redirect_to :back} format.xml { render :xml => @book } end end Then I've added a link to the view that is like: <%= link_to "Read", read_book_path(@book), :method = :put % This isn't working at all. I have added it to my routes, but it doesn't seem to matter. Any help would be great! Thanks! -Elliot EDIT: Forgot to add I'm getting a NoMethodError: undefined method `read_book_path'

  • Adding Table Columns to a Group by clause - Ruby on Rails - Postgresql

    I am trying to use Heroku and apparently Postgresql is a lot more strict than SQL for aggregate functions. When I am pushing to Heroku I am getting an error stating the below. On another question I asked I received some guidance that said I should just add the columns to my group by clause and I am not sure how to do that.     Hi All, I want to write a named scoped to get a record from its id. Ex: I have a model called Event and its same as doing Event.find(id) (I dont want to use find inside my controller and I want my controller to use a named scoped (for future flexibility)) So I have written a named scoped named_scope :from_id, lambda { |id| {:conditions = ['id= ?', id] } } and I'm calling it from my controller like Event.from_id(id) But my problems is it returns Event object array not only one object Ex: if I want to get event name I have to write event = Event.from_id(id) event[0].name instead I want to write event = Event.from_id(id) event.name Am I doing something wrong here.. thanks in advance cheers sameera

  • Ruby/Rails Audio Conversion Plugins?

    I am looking for a good gem/plugin to convert user-uploaded audio files to different formats. One format in particular that I am interested in is converting to Apple .caf with ima4 compression for inclusion in an iPhone app. I have been using afconvert on my mac for this so far, but I need to do it on my linux box, server-side. Ideally, I would be able to work into paperclip. As an additional solution, ffmpeg could work, but I have not seen any .caf options for it. Anybody know of one?

As suggested on other posts I read, they say its caused because of the ":update = some_div" in the link_to_remote_redbox function but clearly my code doesn't have that. Help is always appreciated.     Hi, I am wondering how I could create a custom data type to use within the rake migration file. Example: if you would be creating a model, inside the migration file you can add columns. It could look like this: def self.up create_table :products do |t| t.column :name, :string t.timestamps end end I would like to know how to create something like this: t.column :name, :my_custom_data_type The reason for this to create for example a "currency" type, which is nothing more than a decimal with a precision of 8 and a scale of 2.     Say I have a Metal class named Preview. How do I test it with RSpec? When I try: require 'spec_helper' describe Preview do it "should return the posted content" do post "/preview", :content => "*title*" response.body.should == "*title*" end end I get: undefined method `post' for #<ActiveSupport::TestCase::Subclass_1:0x1058b3098> It seems that RSpec doesn't load up the :post method if the test isn't explicitly for a Controller. I've tried specifying :type => :controller to no avail.

    Hi - I want to config my app to use a different schema than the default for storing sessions. Basically, I want the app to store all its active_record objects in app_development and only its sessions in app_sessions. Normally this could be done by defining the sessions db in database.yml: development: # ... sessions: host: localhost database: app_sessions username: blah password: sssshhh #.... And then setting in the model: class Session < ActiveRecord::Base establish_connection :sessions #... end But since session doesn't have a model class defined, I'm looking for a way to tell it where to store its data. I've noticed the session comes from ActionController::Session, but couldn't find what I needed there. Any thoughts? thanks.
